Utah vs Baylor | Postgame Press Conference

Isaac you get thrown in there when cam goes down just kind of walk us through how your emotions were coming into the game at that point uh got to stay calm cool and collected um I got to trust in my teammates myam uh teammates got to trust in me and like coach Leto says take care of the ball and uh great things will happen what did say before you in I didn't get a c cam before he went but he came out and uh he was giving me a whole bunch of tips uh of what the defense was doing just trying to calm me down I mean I felt pretty composed but definitely things I could work on me through that field return for especi that high five there yeah I mean it was just it happened so fast I can't even like really talk about it but I was debating on getting out of the way or catching it and I was like screw I'm about to catch this so I caught it and then I took off and it was just Green Grass and saw my dog Z running up the sideline gave him a high five just fun moment money that offense was was clicking just kind of what did it feel like in that first half and and just being able to kind of move the ball like that I just feel like we was we was clicking all cylinders we got a little little culated at the end but at the end of the day we still clicking we still making plays Conor when cam goes out more pressure on the defense you guess finally gave up a touchdown first of the year but what was kind of the message within the defense that you got to shut him down bonuses on you guys yeah I think it's just doing the same thing every play I know in the first half we we were pretty stout in that I think it was that first play in that that one series they had that long run um so after that you know we just had to regroup a little bit they were going fast safe so they kept us on our heels a little bit but um it was the same for us just just do our job and and make plays Conor you had that that Blind Side hit on the setup for fow in the first qut and you guys also got three sacks on him in the first half what what did you kind of see on film that allowed you to kind of dial up the pressure and get to him as easily as you did early in the game yeah it was a great scheme um we saw that Titan coming away so we just triggered um and they ran that little RPO and just got a clean shot on him there so was a great job by the linebackers um echoing those calls and and letting us know where those tight ends are in space and just being able to see it there yeah what changed in that second half defensively that allowed them to maybe get a little bit more more than what you guys were given um I don't think nothing changed obviously they um they have a talented quarterback who can run the ball you see um they started running the ball a lot more on those long yardages when we were guarding for the pass and they were just running Q counter and stuff kind of catching us off guard but you know they're a power for team they're going to make plays um I don't I don't think we played horrible in a sense but um yeah I think it was fine how about the play of the secondary especially first game without kenon out there cam Cal really stepped up as well oh yeah we got we got dogs ready just waiting at the you know waiting to get a chance and get on the field and so and I believe in every last one of them I know how hard they prepare and you know I'm with them when they're doing it grinding and so I believe in every last one of them and trust them Isaac we don't know Cam's status but if you were to go into next week as the starter what what do you feel like you need to do this week to kind of prepare yourself for that be ready I mean I came into that situation out of nowhere but I got to be ready um I got to be there for my team especially I mean there's a lot of plays I could have had back and we're going to go on the field room and we're going to evaluate that but just just going through the motions getting completions um moving the ball down the field I think I think I could have helped the defense personally by getting the ball moving just a little bit more so didn't put so much pressure on them but coming next week got to be ready this is the second straight week where you've led the offense the entire second half what have you learned from that experience will do that back to back games got to take care of the ball got to move the ball um easy completions and I got to be ready just like how I keep saying that I got to be ready any other questions for the guys okay spe e e contract that hair there we go there we go all right uh it's good to get the win as uh the college football world found out today it's hard to get wins division one wins sometimes and uh we didn't play perfectly we had a lot that we left on the table um started out I thought we're going to win by 40 you we got up 17 zip uh fairly early and and uh and we just lost our Momentum Credit Baylor they hung in there uh made some plays kept fighting um certainly when cam left the game um that was a downer for us but the world can't stop turning when cam exits a game and we got to keep playing which which we did but we got to we got to be productive which we were not real productive after that so so we'll continue to figure that out Isaac I thought uh did a nice job um didn't turn the ball over completed some balls um that one drive second to last Drive where we we converted three or four first downs that was really the key to to putting the game away is to burn that six or seven minutes off the clock that we did and so uh but the real key to the game what reason we won the football game is our defense uh defense played lights out uh they only got 220 223 yards a total 12 first downs which in this day and age of college football that's outstanding defense uh blocked a field goal with our defensive block unit returned it for a touch toown so so they not only uh kept Baylor in check they they scored and helped our cause in that regard uh still not running the football as well as we need to as well as we can uh about like last week you know just under five yards of carry somewhere in the 175 yard range um still uh need to try to get more takeaways we did get the strip sack which set up uh set the offense up on the four or five yard line which was a big play um and so really you know between that and the and the block field goal for a touchdown the defense really was responsible for 14 points so so uh again they they were the player of the game have a player of the game after each game and the defense collectively was was our player of the game so uh cam can't give you an answer right now on uh his availability uh just been told it's not real serious you know that's the that's the only you know what I know now it wasn't real serious and can't tell you the exact description of what what happened but but U he should uh you know he may be back this week we'll see we'll see um but other than that uh you know we got to do a little better job of spreading the ball around getting the ball to our Playmakers Dorian singer as a heck of receiver brt keithy one of the top receiving tits in the country we got to we got to feat him a feature him a little bit more and so there's things we got to work on if we want to get to where we want to be that uh that we have to work on and improve so questions Kyle if if Cam isn't able to go what do you need to do to kind of help Isaac move that Al well you know today's experience as well as last week's was really good for him to me he looked much more comfortable much more in charge uh today than he did last week at least his first series or two and that's to be expected you know that was his first college experience last week but but uh threw some good balls uh threw a real nice ball to money and and uh didn't turn the ball over like I said um you know if he is going to be a quarterback then you know he's got outstanding ability to run the football as well so we we'd have to look at maximizing that but but uh for him he's just reps he just needs to a crew reps he's getting all the reps in practice um and so he's he is taking steps forward and he's he's our guy he's the number two guy you know clearly right now and and so uh that's where we're at with Isaac what did you see on the play where Cam get injured yeah I didn't see uh I wasn't obviously was on the other side of the field but it looked like it certainly was a possible late hit situation or unnecessary roughness situation I I can't say because I didn't I didn't uh get a good enough look we'll watch the film and see what we think what do you think you probably got a better look than I did was late late well there you go so so uh yeah but I'll have to reserve judgment till I get to see it came alive today with Conor what did you see from what did you like Conor tul is just a he's a tremendous athlete came to us as a receiver he's a uh I think he was the state High hurdle champion in New Mexico I mean he's a he's a great athlete and we recruited him with the uh intention that he would grow into either a tight end or a defensive end uh gained 40 pounds moved to D end and he's just got explosive get off with as an edge player your number one asset has got to be your get off that that's the number one thing you look for in an edge player he's got a tremendous get off he's explosive and uh he's a Relentless player his motor never stops and so he's he's he's going to fight you the whole the whole 60 Minutes I thought van fillinger played really well and one of the big plays of the game when he hawked that quarterback down when the quarterback kept it he he burst and hit a gear that I didn't think he had and got that guy down and that was a that was a huge play there uh special teams was disappointing you know we need to be better on special teams uh missed two very makeable field goals we botched a Pat had a couple touchbacks on punt you shouldn't have a couple touchbacks all year let alone in one game and so there's things to work on there we got to coach it better we got to coach that better and uh be more effective um their punter was outstanding but he was out kicking coverage and it was a shame we couldn't get something set up and get something going there because because we had space but we just never really got anything going going in the punt return game so but that we got to be better at special teams that's that's uh one of our priorities going into this next game what the status of Mike Mitchell and if you don't have him in that room what do you feel like you guys need to do to continue to improve he should be fine um he's got some little nagging things that have bugged him throughout fall Camp uh he wasn't able to practice real effectively until Wednesday or Thursday of last week of this past week but but uh hopefully Mike is going to be in the room all season long and and he's got to get these things healed up and and between him maai uh Duty you know dejon Stanley gives us some good reps and Charlie Charlie vinon gave us a couple nice runs today so again it's by committee which isn't isn't all bad but Mai the closest thing we have to a lead back right now is maai Bernard is there a reason jayber didn't get touch uh just wasn't in the plan today just wasn't in the plan and and uh no specific reason other than we had those other guys penel in for what we were doing can you just speak on ta's performance today it was he was just kind of all over the place especially and then that field goal touchdown exactly ta T Johnson's a big play guy he's the one that as you mentioned returned the uh block P or the block field goal for a touchdown he's got great speed uh we don't want to have to move him from safety to to nicolar Corner because that reduces uh his freedom and what he can do for us uh and Scooby Davis did a really nice job in Ken and Johnson's absence number nine the corner opposite of zayon and if that if he continues to play like that then then we're going to be in good shape and so that'll allow us to continue to leave Tao at safety and where you saw him do his you know what he did today he's all over the place he's got four four you know maybe 438 speed and and he's 200 pounds athletic and tough he's really tough so we we're excited about that if Cam isn't able to go against Utah St will Isaac be the starter for that game or will be unless you think someone else should start I don't know I'm thinking Isaac personally yeah and uh we'll have to we'll have to see who his backup will be that will be a a contested uh situation but uh Isaac yeah he would be our guy if if Cam can't go and I don't see I don't see that changing your offensive line was their first match up with a power school at least with those guys at one how do you feel about their their pushup ront and uh hot and cold hot and cold we opened up some gashing runs there for a while then then it was tough sleding for a while you know it was it was not consistently uh as good as we need to be and same thing on the pass rush at times we protected well but at times we we uh we had early pressure in the in the throw game and and so you know those two young tackles they're going to be they're they're exceptional athletes and they're going to be great by the time it's all over with they'll be great but they're just you know a true freshman or a red shirt freshman and a true sophomore and so they're still learning but they have the athleticism and all the tools you need to be uh phenomenal players and and they're on their way to that end those are those issues coming for more you ability or is it pre-nap stuff recognition more more the the ladder pre- snap stuff and and uh just identifying fronts and and uh responsibilities and passing off twists and twist games and that type of thing and that'll come you know the the inside three are much more um experienced well I shouldn't say that because tooa the left guard he's first year starter he's been in the program a lot longer but but we believe in that offensive line I believe they're going to continue to get better and better as the season uh is that a handlebar mustache all right I'm I'm digging it it's nice okay did someone say last question or not oh that's it okay thanks guys
