FOR THOSE WHO WOULD HAVE VOTED FOR HIM EVEN WERE HE STILL ON THE BALLOT TO GO A DIFFERENT DIRECTION. THAT MIGHT MAKE SOME DIFFERENCES IN THE MARGINS. THEY MATTER WHICH IS WHY THESE GUYS ARE ON THE TRAIL. NICE TO SEE HARRIS AND WALZ ON THE TRAIL AFTER A STRANGELY TIMED BREAK OUT OF THE CONVENTION WHEN I THOUGHT THEY SHOULD HAVE BEEN RIDING HIGH AND TAKING IT TO THE STREETS. BUT THEY ARE ALL OUT THERE AGAIN FIGHTING OVER THE RUST BELT VOTERS. THE KEY FOR TRUMP AND VANCE IS TO SORT OF LOAD UP ON RUST BELT MEN VOTERS WITHOUT TURNING OFF SUBURBAN WOMEN VOTERS, RIGHT? I THINK WHEN YOU SEE A WALZ TALK TO UNIONS AS HE SHOULD, THAT THERE IS A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE GUYS WHO LEAD THE UNIONS AND RANK AND FILE OF THE UNIONS AND HAD A BIG REUNION LEADER SPEAKING AT THE RNC RECOGNIZING THAT DIVIDE. VANCE IS DISCIPLINED WITH MESSAGE YOUR LIFE IS NOT BETTER NOW THAN IT WAS FOUR YEARS AGO. HE CAN DELIVER THAT MESSAGE WITH A TONE THAT WEARS PRETTY WELL. THE FIRST IMPRESSION OF HIM HAS BEEN UNKIND. HIS ACTUAL PERFORMANCE PRETTY DECENT ON THE STUMP EVENTS. >> Bret: I WAS LOOKING AT SOME OF THE POLLS. THERE HASN'T BEEN THIS BIG BOUNCE OUT OF THE DNC. THERE HAVE BEEN STATES THAT HAVE CLOSED AND THEY ARE EXPRESSING A LITTLE CONFIDENCE IN PLACES LIKE GEORGIA AND NORTH CAROLINA, THE HARRIS-WALZ TEAM IS, BUT WASN'T THIS MAJOR BOUNCE FROM THE DNC. >> RIGHT. WE MAY SEE A LITTLE MORE OF THAT. IT'S STRANGE THEY WEREN'T BARNSTORMING RIGHT OUT OF THAT. THEY DID HAVE ALL THE GREAT PRESS. NOT THAT MUCH OF A CHANGE FROM THE GREAT PRESS THEY HAD SINCE SHE ENTERED THE RACE. SHE WILL HAVE TO ANSWER QUESTIONS SOON WHICH IS INTERESTING AND WILL SERVE VOTERS WELL TO HEAR FROM HER. SHE MAY LOSE SOME FOOTING THAT WAY. WE MAY SEE SOME BOUNCE IN THE NEAR FUTURE. IT DOES NOT FEEL SHE HAS BROKEN OPEN THIS RACE, WHICH ONE WOULD THINK WHEN GIVEN THE CHOICE BETWEEN BIDEN AND TRUMP WE WANT ANYONE BUT. HERE IS ANYONE BUT. WITH THE COVERAGE SHE HAS HAD MUCH I WOULD THINK TO SEE HER WITH MORE OF A CUSHION. THEY WILL WORK HARD FOR EVERY VOTE. >> Dana: HER BOUNCE WAS BAKEED IN ANNOUNCED SHE WOULD TAKE OVER FOR BIDEN. IT WOULDN'T HAVE MATTERED. TRUMP GOT A BOUNCE OUT OF HIS CONVENTION, BUT ALL THE PRESS FOR KAMALA HARRIS LED TO THIS. AS I SAID LAST WEEK EVERYTHING GOT HARDER AFTER THE CONVENTION FOR BOTH CANDIDATES. THE "WALL STREET JOURNAL" SAYING THIS. DO YOU THINK THE AMERICAN DREAM STILL HOLDS TRUE? NEVER HELD TRUE OR ONCE HELD TRUE BUT DOESN'T ANYMORE? YOU CAN SEE THE NUMBERS HERE. THE NUMBERS ARE NOT GOOD FOR PEOPLE WHO FEEL LIKE THEY AREN'T GOING TO BE ABLE TO HAVE A GOOD LIFE, GET THAT HOME AND GET THE RETIREMENT. I LOVE TO TALK TO YOU ABOUT ALL OF YOUR REAL MOM PEOPLE, THE NORMALS AS YOU CALL THEM. DO YOU THINK THEY FEEL THIS WAY? >> WELL, I THINK LIFE IS HARDER AND FEELS LIKE IT STREET GETTING HARDER, RIGHT? PEOPLE MAKE PURCHASES EVERY WEEK TRYING TO FEED KIDS. I FEED FOUR OF THEM. YOU SEE THE PRICES GO UP AND SEE IT IF YOU USE WAL-MART APP OR WHATEVER YOU ARE USING AND YOU LOOK AT THE TAXES ON YOUR HOME, TRYING TO BUY A HOME, YES, THINGS FEEL MORE OUT OF REACH. YOU LOOK AT YOUR KIDS AND SAY WILL IT BE COMPLETELY OUT OF REACH FOR THEM? A FAIRLY NORMAL SET OF CONCERNS IN THE SUBURBAN AREAS WITH BOTH OF THESE CAMPAIGNS NEED TO BE WOOHING PEOPLE. IT IS SAD BUT A REAL THING. ONE OF THE CHALLENGES OF THIS CAMPAIGN IS TO BE A HAPPY WARRIOR AS BOTH SIDES ARE ATTEMPTING TO BE WHILE ALSO POINTING OUT THINGS DON'T FEEL GREAT. YOU CANNOT TELL PEOPLE THAT THINGS FEEL AWESOME WHEN THEY DO NOT. THEY KNOW WHAT'S HAPPENING IN THEIR REAL LIVES. TOO OFTEN THE HARRIS, WALZ AND BIDEN BEFORE THEM TRY TO SAY EVERYTHING IS GREAT.
