inducted for the fifth time is Jerry G and GV congratulations mate uh on what was a difficult year I'm sure for the footy Club but at the same time some personal spoils coming your way you must be thrilled yeah thanks J yeah man has been a little bit difficult obviously on the club's level and um personally it's obviously great to uh to make the old Australian but um yeah mate we're uh we'll move on and enjoy this price and get back into it no doubt about that now a lot of people have been texting me overnight I'm going to ask the same question of Caleb song uh the dress code last night for the Sydney Swans West Coast Eagles and freem manal players no tie G what was the dress code yeah the dress code was cocked up so I I was uh I don't like to suit on the most of times and I was tossing up TI on o TI uh and then obviously half some of the boys didn't have them some did so we probably need to get that aligned I reckon next year for for FR G but uh yeah there was cocktail ly Ry had his sneakers on that he got from the op shop so um yeah there must be a bit of miscommunication there did you miss out an award last night most courageous I look at the top three I had Jeremy McGavin pipped as my winner and then you weren't even inside the top three how' you feel a man is what it is um I think all all players are courageous so then um it's pretty hard to put it down to one but obviously Zack buts deserves to win for sure but no I'm not really looking into it too much to be honest hey go what's motivating you at the moment moment coming and rocking up for the West Coast Eagles and how long do you think you can play for in this competition H depends when you ask me man I'm going play as long as I can for sure um obviously different motivations M motivation for me recently has just been trying to get back and play consistent footy and um help the footy club and help lead them and help these young boys so um clubs obviously on through a fair bit of change so yeah for me it's just wherever I can assist obviously on field with performance and Leadership stuff and um around the footy club and help these young boys build for for a good future by the time I sort of leave we hope you leave the footy Club in a good place when I'm uh when I tap on the shoulder to finish up yeah now you're very good mate the manual connected at The Hip To The Man on field that you have this amazing sink with and I know you're close to him but Tom Baris say has officially asked for a trade what's your thoughts on that and how difficult is that going to be losing someone who's played 150 games Prem ship player Vice Captain much loved uh and your mate yeah oh yeah on a mate level for sure I'm yeah shattered he's going I'd love playing with him like you said he's one of my best mates so um obviously on that level yeah of course flat to see him going um he's going to be solely Miss at the footy Club um that's for sure and hard to replace but um at the same time um he's got his got his reasons and uh that he that he wants to go and um respect them and understand them with the industry that are in um and I I feel like he's he's doing the right thing for himself his family and Direction he wants to go but selfishly I'd love him to stay but um and I'll miss him for sure but I understand it I support everything he's doing he's um yeah as much as I'd love to have him there with me all the time I know you're not going to tell us about your private conversations and one last one on this but do you talk to him as a friend you know your kids are mucking around together your wives are together everything's sort of fitting in and you know and then the vibe comes out that he wants out and he's met Sam Mitchell do you raise the question with him do you talk to him ask for reasons does he ask you what your thoughts are in that in that space Oh look yeah we we've chatt about it a fair bit and it's not just with Tommy I think with everyone and and the club and you know Direction where you're going and um obviously those conversations happen over the over the years not just this year but most years so um yeah I chat to him for sure obviously so I've got a greater understanding of the decisions and the reason he's made it um I'm not going to go into it because you know they have private conversations that we have and and the boys have but um yeah on a deeper level he's like I say he's one of your best mates so I'll support him no matter what he does um but like I said selfishly I'd love him just St West go with me are you being drip fed information about the the coaching position or you're a senior player you're five time all Australian you're probably on the panel are you no manate I'm not on the panel um I uh look as much as I'm happy to contribute in my wherever I need to with that sort of stuff you know I'll back the club in they've got a um good system um they got a panel they've got some system process they're going to go through to uh select a new coach and for me you know I'll leave that up to those boys and more people and um I'll just focus on trying to get me body right and get these boys right so we're ready to go when that coach comes in hey go just going back to the barass situation can we do it better as a industry where we've got all these players they're almost living a lie throughout the season where they might be thinking about going would you like the communication to change a little bit in regards to what players say about their Futures because you've been through it you're a free agent a little bit different freem menal through the kitchen sink at you through that period but you think as an industry we could improve the way that we do things um oh yeah yes and no it's it's I can only speak from my experience going through it um half the time you just scared Hy you don't you don't want to say the wrong thing or come out the wrong way or upset anyone or anything so unfortunately in the industry that we're in if you do say something that's a little bit out of line sometimes it grows a bit of legs and um it come back to fight you and stuff so I think uh if everyone wants players to speak a bit more freely just try look after us on the other side because as soon as we some boys and people speak a bit more freely it sort of gets thrown back in our faces a little bit sometimes so um which we understand so um yeah as much is yes I think we probably can improve um in Aras as one players but also on the media side as well would be great but yeah that that stuff is what it is you can't really control that it's very good well spoken uh Jake wman what a remarkable story we talk about great stories that come out of all Australian you're standing next to one in Jesse Hogan last night what a great story that is at his third Club but but the Louch Jake wman The Snake what a remarkable transformation I mean no one was smiling more last night than Than Jake Waterman yeah no I might absolutely stoked for him he's uh he's worked extremely hard not just obviously he went through a fair bit last year healthwise um but I've seen it firsthand since I've been in the footy Club he's been working his way for a long time um mastering his craft he's had had a good opportunity last or this year and he's he's really grabbed it and Ram with it so um Jake deserves every bit of recognition he gets um he's he's a hard worker and more importantly he's a he's a RI and fell so uh I was stoked that he that he made it and hope there's many more to come for him hey hey G you know when you're standing amongst this group of BLS and you know Chad Warner his name gets talked about coming to well not no sorry that's not true his name's been thrown up as a possible uh coming back to wa at some stage whether it's next year year after do you take the opportunity is there a perfect time to talk to a player when his name's in the media like it goes back to what Hayes is saying or do you just keep your distance and say he man is there any chance you're going to come to w and do you get do you get the responses and do you keep that under your hat I mean did you get a Vibe at all Aral um oh mate to be honest every player in that room I'm trying to get across the just having a little Sni around so you're more than welcome to come come over to us so yeah oh look obviously for sure you that's not really chatting about the whole time obviously getting to know those guys on a probably deeper level when you're there but yeah there always is a side to on the way through of you know we'd love to have you for sure but uh n not too much mate we just try and enjoy the night and celebrate you're a senior player one last question from me do you get consulted on some of the list management decisions in and around some of the players that you might want to see come into your football club uh my no not really very similar to the coaching stuff has um you know you always have a bit of a chat here and there but it's never never anything too serious and deep like we've got people in those positions to make those decisions which um as players and a club we back them in so um n mate don't get too involved to be honest we just uh worry about worry about ourselves what we can do on on that pitch and in the offseason and um out in the 40 field but uh yeah I'm when we go to those events I'm I'm half doing the list management of pitching to to a few boys where we need I did it once I went into the recruiters at foo and said you got to get this guy from Claremont he name is Jeremy McGavin oh how' that go for you they didn't listen to me did they five time all Australian hey G uh fantastic mate do you care who coaches you if from an outsid of looking in do you think from from our point of view we have no idea but from from you as a player at the cace do you need a development coach or do you think you need someone that's already been there done that ah look I I wouldn't know to be honest like obviously bit both of you in for sure I think we um um need need a bit of both I guess in that in that sort of space but um like I said before I I'll back in whoever comes in um and I'll back in the club and the people that making those decisions so whoever it is um I'm all in and I'm sure all the boys will be all in and um I think just the excitement about a bit of a new voice and something different a little bit uh will help the group straight away so um and whatever other decisions get made around that prob 100% nice work all right we know you got to get on the plane last one for you Shannon the Bunger name's been linked to coming back to the club in a while how good yeah man I love hearing that those that that bit of news for sure so um yeah whether it's true or not um I hope it is uh I Reon you'd be absolutely amazing so uh one be good because I think he'll be great in whatever role he comes in but two it's uh get one of your mates back someone Barris and losing him where does he rank now chery McGavin like there's not many West Aussies that have five all Australian Blazers in terms of West Coast greatest ever players is he now inside the top five with that Accolade you've got Mater you got J you've got cousins is he is he next in line behind those guys he's in the conversation and F to that one mark that set up the Grand Final moment was quite significant in the history of that football club in relation to what players can say because Tom looks like a bit of an idiot after what he said six weeks ago eight weeks ago how can players handle that situation better can we just get to a point like at the end of every year I'm going to assess my situation and we'll make the best call for my future whether you're in contract or you're out of contract because you don't know what might change throughout the season would you be happy for every player to use that line I would imagine and I will only talk of Tom Barris maybe things did change maybe Sam Mitchell sees the opportunity because maybe it was just a it was out that he was been talked about and all of a sudden Sam Mitchell comes to Perth shortly after those grabs and said mate have you actually thought about it and maybe Sam Mitchell just pitched really strongly and they have a relationship and then all of a sudden hickmon gets involved is a contract grievance in there somewhere isn't there that he he believes he was promised something ly but you know things change and if they re hey look he's got some massive currency and he might be the one that gets a better player to the football club and a player that they need more they've got good cover down there but Harry Edwards Brady Hoff is going to really develop and I and as much as he's a super player Tom bris and I actually like Tom Paris I think he's quirky funny I think he's very respectful very learned but he's you know he wants to move on in his football life football Journey but at the same time is yes that rug Underneath Him comment will probably live with him for a bit are you ruling out anything from the West coaching position perspective like are you ruling out Dean Cox completely are you ruling out Ken hinley are you ring somebody else that could come into it that's still involved starting to look like is it not does that not what it look but if I see I wouldn't rule anything out one person comes to me one more person walks up to me and said Jared Scofield's already got the job that's what that's what every that's everyone I speak to tells me that I'm telling you now Jared Scofield's got the job and it's a short-term job to establish the group to get these kids started whether he's going to be the man that attracts the coaching the next Superstar to the football club I don't know I have no idea I know the fact is that they would be derel in their duty if they have not spoken to Ken hinkley's people John longmire's people Chris Scott's people Luke beverage Luke beverage's people again I think there'll be managers at play here where they've got one more year for their coach where they're saying come on give us some interest and then you'll see them resign because they'll use that as leverage I've always said this and say this again Ken hinley right now is in the Box suit to stay at Port adade but if Ken hinley does achieve something special this year gets him to the big dance Ken hinley has one more year to run Ken hinkley's people would be going straight to the management of Port adline saying I want an extension now I want four years minimum and if they don't get it he picks up the phone and they ring West Coast and say give me five years and I'm there can West Coast wait that long though that's the problem well well I haven't moved yet we finals are start next week five weeks ago yeah I know
