Nationals going up against the Atlanta Braves first pitch coming your way next and now your 2024 atleta all right just about set to go and on the mound now Charlie Morton well coming into this game hitters are batting under 250 against this starting pitcher so it just shows you how how effective he's been he's been able to move his pitches around add and subtract change up the look so that hitters don't get too comfortable and start squaring up the baseball we'll see what he's got in this one all right ready to get underway here's CJ Abrams to hit the pitch that's in for a strike at 95 and we're underway kicks and F fires strike two well he didn't like those first two pitches now an 02 hole he's going to have to battle hope he gets a [Applause] mistake pitch misses there and it's one and two it's a good take swing and a ball lifted left field makes the grab one away here's Dave Martinez line up for the Nationals a guy who's been huge for them over the last month plus James Wood well boo there aren't many guys who have a flare for the big moment like he does I mean batting over 400 with runners in scoring position are you kidding me I I know it's not guaranteed or an automatic but I hope we get to see him in a close late game situation with runners in well struck left field and that's going to roll to the wall the throw is wild and it gets away and he'll reach second with one away nice double right there loud contact coming off the bat didn't get enough air under to drive it out of here but you'll take that swing and that result every [Applause] time and now it's Juan YZ not getting the results he's wanted at the plate recently barely hitting over the Mendoza Line this month this one pops up Olsen should have this one makes the grab for the second [Applause] out and now it's Luis Garcia I'm liking what I've seen from him at the dish lately hitting better than 350 this month first pitch misses wood on it second with two downs swing and a ball hammered left field Kelly going back high bounce over the fence for an automatic double and a run comes into score that ball exploded off his Bat and off the warning track as well as it bounced over the fence it sounded really good too he just put together a really nice swing and just missed a home run man second here with two away and now it's kebert Ruiz ripped on a line huls it in to end the inning one run a pair of hits no errors and one left off bottom half of inning number one coming up it's the Nationals one and the Braves coming up back here with my pal singy and on the mound for Washington in this one Jake Irvin and singy we were talking earlier about how he's doing a great job navigating through tough spots I've just been so impressed with when it seems like there's more pressure he's more calm and settles in he's done an incredible job with runners in scoring position most guys they get a little tight they start to aim the baseball but for some reason he gets looser the ball comes out of his hand with more life and he's able to win wiggle off the hook of you know tough situations and get his team back in the Dugout Garcia hauls it in and there's one away here's the Atlanta Braves lineup singy this lineup has the benefit of playing behind a great pitching stat they've got a really low erra yeah and you know with that said there's not as much pressure on the offense but make no mistake about it players want to hit the ball hard and they want to score runs they want to jog around the bases hitting the ball over the fence so regardless of how dominant the staff can be the attitude dude is we want to go out there and have some fun with the bat so we'll see one big inning in this one you know could be all they need but you'd like to have multiple big Innings one down base is empty and that's outside and that's ball one and strike two swings through it for the K chase the fast ball up the ladder for strike three well pitchers have become so much better at commanding that high fast ball it used to be that a lot of pitchers didn't like to throw it because it throw off their release point and their mechanics and they're aimed at keeping everything at the knees get ground balls but because hitters get a swing path that can lift balls at the knees up in the air and over the fence this this pitch has come back into play and they are doing some special things with it two out bace is empty not close with that one it's a ball in two strikes and they'll do it again two down dolman on and that just misses really good take especially with two strikes misses counts full three and two that's one you always want as a pitcher down at the knees and it looked to me like he's barking that's a strike doesn't change the call but sometimes it helps to let that frustration out a little bit two outs and that's ball four one of the things about that two out walk the base runner over at first BAS is going to have a very aggressive secondary lead so a ball down the line or it into the Gap will produce a two out RBI and those are the best that is if you are the offensive side of it Matt Olen at the plate and takes High there he's a master at hitting fast balls you need to be careful with location if you're going to throw him the pitch just missed well he's really working him away this this at bat sometimes take a little bit off velocity try to get a roll over something on the ground stay away from that big hole on the right side of the infield two can't find it here that's six straight Balls next offering is in for a strike here comes a pitch in the air right field Gallow moves towards it and makes the grab and that is the third out of the inning one left for Atlanta they Trail here one nothing second inning set to go and now up for Washington Jose tenna J the W to kick the pitch just off the Inside Edge and another ball Mike Filmore are pled onire very consistent with his Zone Chris gets a lot of praise for that he does boo and I think that with any umpire you really just want them to be consistent filmore's a guy that does a good job back there in that way so people around the league really appreciate his consistency and a pitch and fires in a fast ball at 95 and he walked him well he tried to nibble right there and just missed his spot hitter didn't offer at it now he has somebody to worry about over it first and the batter now Andres chaparo and takes low for ball one tenna gets his lead at first nobody out that Clips the [Music] corner Edy deals just missed as a veteran out there on the ball you're trying to establish both edges of the plate right here he's working inside righty delivers swings through that one out in front that [Applause] time two two now got it by him for the k he came out of his mechanics there typically likes to shoot the ball the other way but that time little [Applause] anxious here's Joey Gallow fouled off he was late [Applause] deep drive down the line foul [Applause] ball the pitch swing and a miss chase the fast up the lad for strike three well take a look at the three- pitch sequence here pretty simple in terms of putting them away at the plate once your head 02 as a pitcher you can really expand the zone and see how aggressive that hitter is going to be trying to protect in battle and right there clearly he was in swing mode but all you can do is hope to foul that off and here's the rookie center fielder you talk about Elite defensive players especially in the middle of the diamond and this guy is at the top of the list yeah go beyond just the you know Fielding percentage and you know what it looks like but the ability to have a range and you know close holes that you know are normally there against an average Defender but this guy is special and you can see it in his first step quickness that's outside and it's w to know H and the one thing about that is speed never goes in a slump and defense shouldn't either hitting wise you can struggle you can lose your mechanics but the thing that you can do consistently every single game is play great defense if you're talented in that way and this is what this guy does and another ball CJ Abrams up next for Washington and there's a strike on the outside [Applause] corner and there's Ball Four maybe a little loss of focus on the mound right there pretty much gifted him first base with a quick free pass so the next lineup turns over CJ Abrams digging in for the Nationals fly to left his first time that one the other way and that'll do it so the Nets leave a pair but they hold a one nothing [Music] lead and welcome back to the ballpark bottom half of inning number two leading off Travis [Applause] darno the rander back to work way high [Applause] on the ground to third tosses to First and a quick out number one lorano comes up the hit he's been a great free agent sign that one finds the Zone that's strike [Applause] one laurano checks his swing now it appeal to First and he held back according to Rusty Valentine one down base is empty F back gway and that's out of [Applause] play hon misses it's a strike out here's Jared Kellick and that skips into dirt the Braes trailing by a run bottom half of inning number two swinging a foul over the screen and back out of play there's a swing and a drive back there out of here he'll touch them all is 14th of the year and we're all square it's 1-1 he absolutely feasts on right-handed pitching and devours that one for a homer and you can see that's what he expects of himself at bat after it bat he's that confident [Applause] [Applause] [Applause] gior shella to the [Applause] plate swing and a Fly ball in the air out towards right center field and that is that but we're all tied up thanks to this solo Homer all even at one apiece you're dialed into the show back here in Atlanta now the left fielder James Wood the wi of the pitch just off the Inside Edge swing and a miss nice change up fought off foul here's a onew gets a piece there we'll do it again and the rander deals goes down looking wow that's a tough call for the hitter but the pitcher will take that all day long not quite in the strike zone but he found a spot that the Umpire is going to at least for now allow him to get that call so hitters are going to have to make an adjustment but pitchers are going to learn from those things and really try to exploit them if they can yeah stands in now and watches strike [Applause] [Applause] one ground ball left side slings it across and that quickly two away so up next Luis Garcia doubled in his first a and that one fouled off tied up here in the early going got the back going too soon at strike two and he really sells the change up with that arm action that pitch just misses the inside corner and the count is one and two two down nobody on out to short arcia tosses across the first and it's a one two three inning nothing doing for Washington score remains tied 1-1 and we're back now it's the short stop Orlando Aria and a pitch foul ball there righty to the plate fast ball right back to the mound in plenty of time to First one up one down so the batting order turns over so now to the plate for Atlanta Michael Harris over for one so [Applause] far pitch misses and that is ball one drilled out toward left center field that's well struck and that should be extra bases now he'll turn it for second not stopping he's going for three the relay throw and he's out Whit marfield up to the plate F back our way and that's out of play right-hander kicks deals foul [Applause] [Applause] ball looked like it was a little bit up that's a really good job of laying off the O2 High fast ball is going to make that pitcher really have to respect this hitter even though he's behind in the count Abrams tosses the first that ends the inning Braves go down quickly here score remains deadlocked at one so coming into the game now on defense Luke Williams he'll be patrolling center field Hebert Ruiz digging in for the Nationals Morton back to work Ruiz measures 6 feet even 25 years old and he was born in Venezuela the one that one ripped that's going back back some more tattooed and gone just like that they move in front it's 2-1 the one thing the pitcher didn't want want to happen just happened that's not an easy one to stomach just an excellent swing all the way around and it had that sound coming off the bat that gets everyone's attention got a pitch to drive short to the baseball squared it up and the backs spin carried it out of here at the batter now Jose Tenna a going to miss one [Applause] one left-and hitter Waits that one fouled off oh you just got to delete it you give up that lead off home run go back to work focus on this next batter got him swinging and now here is andrees chaparo his first hit bat was a strikeout and a strike in there started after the 01 pitch and now a check down to First and he held up one down base is empty hard hit left side throws the first in time fast groove right down the middle usually a lot of damage done with that pitch a hard grounder but he wanted to get that ball in the air maybe drive it into the Gap two outs Bas is empty and now it's Joey Gallow 0 for one he struck Out Swinging last time L drive and that should be extra bases around first heading for two and he's in with a standup double oh a swing like that can help you come out of the struggle we saw the numbers coming into the ball game but all he's trying to do at this point is help his team win so man aboard and now the center fielder he reached on a walk his first time top of the zone and it's called a strike man on second two down and that's just foul and here it comes gets a piece and stays alive one run across in the frame so far top half of inning number four struck him out swinging darno on the first and it's end time for the third out so that'll end the inning one in the inning for the Nationals on the solo Homer and it's now a 2-1 ball game you're watching Major League Baseball on the show ready to go for the last half of the inning now it's the DH Marcelo [Applause] Zuna and the pitch that one's upstairs ball one one and0 you know these Braves just lacking discipline at the plate in this ball game they're chasing a lot of pitches outside the zone and those chases that are turning into a bunch of outs can they turn that around and stay within the Zone we'll see but I think they have to and a foul ball makes the count two and one the wi and the pitch good eye in that spot he's been pitching well but we'll see what kind of adjustment the hitters make this second time through the order we'll know if he's got really good stuff in this one or not 3-1 and he couldn't come up with it I don't think he really wanted to pitch to him right there anyhow and now Matt Olen up to hit flyed to right his first [Applause] time this one popped up foul ground first Bas side and Olen is set down and there's one down and now it's Travis darno at the plate 0 for one he grounded out in his first it back swung on belted that's back there pulls it in on the warning track here's Ramon laurano struck out swinging his first time out to short they take the force out and that is that brav strand one and they Trail it here two to one back at truest Park top five John shabi with Chris Singleton and leading it off CJ Abrams as he turns on the rubber here with that good live arm delivers and a foul ball now there's a pitch we haven't seen in a while it's going to be tough on the hitters if he can mix that in whenever he wants and he swings and lifts one to deep center field back there can't get there and now maybe extra bases throw cut off to third in there safely [Applause] [Applause] here's the left fielder James Wood one for two and that one fouled [Applause] [Music] off left hand batter with struck him out looking here's Juan YZ he's been really clutched with runners in scoring position this season so they'll have to be extra careful in this matchup that misses the Zone ball one Abrams stands at third with one gone in the inning that misses the zone and that's ball two he's clearly trying to work him away here both pitches off the plate if you really want to put the ball in play you're going to have to stay back and drive it to the opposite field and there're at the knees two and one now a little bit low good pitchers make pitches in big situations and right here with a middle- of the order hitter up Runner and scoring position he's got to find a way to throw a quality strike and he chases a high fast there one away with a runner at third and we're in the top of the fifth [Music] the pitch and ball four to a board Runners on the corners with one gone Luis Garcia digs in now one for two with an RBI double back in the first and a good eye there Runners are at the corners one away so two balls and no strikes tough spot right here a couple Runners on two ball count you can't nibble but you have to execute and finish your pitch if you leave something out over the plate it's going to bring in some runs that one catches the Zone strike one and another ball [Applause] that one's in there three balls two strikes great spot to be in right here for the pitcher you can either strike this guy out they get a ground ball double play [Applause] to short could be two over to marafield and that's two one hit in the inning a triple but they leave him stranded home half of the fifth coming up it's the Nationals two and the Braves one and welcome back to the ballpark we head to the bottom of the fifth now the left fielder Jared Kelner and a pitch that one close rule the ball and that's ball [Applause] one hard hit to third sends it across the first and the lead offense set down in their half of the fifth thir number here's gior shella 0 for one with a fly out to Center first offering misses badly for ball one one out base is empty in for a strike and now it's even one and one [Applause] and there's a [Applause] ball and there's a base hited to left so a man aboard now with one [Applause] away everything came together for him just a solid swing right there caught it out front and ripped it into the outfield for the base hit those all always feel great here's Orlando Ario grounded out his first time up ball one [Applause] low the Nets leading by a run last half of inning number five [Applause] wouldn't chase that time well usually a high level of confidence when you're facing a young pitcher out there on the mound in this situation AE 2 has put himself in a really good spot and that's a little high Luke Williams next to bat for the Braves [Applause] let's see if he gives them anything to hit here and that's Ball Four well just came apart right there four pitch walk and guy at the play was not going to help him out by swinging at something out of the Zone here's the center fielder Luke Williams taking his first out of the game after entering on defense definitely wants to stay out of the double play here ball on the ground in the infield should be an inning ending double play swinging a foul over the screen and back out of play at the dish looking to lift the ball in the air in this spot anything but the inning ending double play boo that one's in there and it's nothing in two [Applause] and that's too high man oh man I don't know how you take that pitch that's as close as it gets two on one out up and in the count now two and two swings and misses struck him out had him out front for strike three oh that's a curveball that people like to describe as a hammer or Uncle Charlie and you can see why it's not a looping slow curve he throws it hard and it gets plenty of bite on the end Whit marafield getting ready to hit and fouled off [Applause] the one and that one fouled [Applause] off the pitch gets a piece and it stays 0 and two at the belt and fires in the dirt tag safe and a wild pitch and both Runners are in scoring [Applause] position forella the runner at third Aria at second with two gone [Applause] now he's desperately looking for that swing and Miss he's going to have to just change speeds a little bit try to move it around create just a little bit of Illusion at the [Applause] [Music] end fights that one away still one and two two on two outs that one missed foul ball left side he'll see another grinding AB right here about to see Pitch number 10 and another ball he should get a pretty good pitch to hit here with three- hole hitter coming up if he's [Applause] walked 3-2 on the way this one belted deep left field on its way gone a gigantic blast it's 4-2 listen to these fans this place is absolutely buzzing right now you can feel the energy all the way up here in in our broadcast [Applause] booth looks like this guy was looking out over the plate but he was ready to turn on the inside fast ball so direct to the pitch absolutely blasted out of this ballpark so two down here's Marcelo Zuna on its way to the corner and that's a foul ball next pitch is outside hit hard that gets through and that extends the [Applause] inning Matt olssen up to the [Applause] plate wouldn't chase that time two outs that one misses and it's two and0 movement in the bullpen DJ hers the rookie left-hander appears to be getting going number 53 getting cranked up as well and the righty deals [Applause] and a four pitch walk it just keep handing out gifts boo were we supposed to bring something singy I think just our presence is the Pres and here's the catcher Travis darno here's a strike and there's a foul [Applause] ball the pitch caught him looking for the K but the biggest swing of the inning comes right here a three-run homer it's now 42 it's Major League Baseball and it's on the show back here at Atlanta top six up now for Washington Hebert Ruiz here comes a pitch just missed the after scor Ron this is where you're looking for that shut down inning get that hot team back in there to swing the bats and another ball next one misses and it's three and0 that one is absolutely belted that's back there and that one hops the wall into second easily with a lead off double oh that was one of those high percentage Advantage counts where batting averages are just so much higher I love the approach he had right there with that pitch not trying to do too much but still looking to drive it and that's exactly what he's able to do into the opposite field gap for the double now the third baseman Jose tenna a strike out and a walk late on that fast [Applause] ball man it's second double barreled action in the bullpen Ronaldo Lopez getting loose out there Chavez getting loose as [Applause] well and o two and that's downed away the punch out there not what you're looking for after the leadoff double a strikeout and there's one away andrees chaparo the next to hit it's been such a good hitter with runners in scoring position some guys just take it to another level for him right now at the plate it's like everyone else is in slow motion and he's in full speed with the tying run at the plate and we're in the top half of the six check swing went around and that's strike two that one just misses tapped on the ground softly to short throw on to Olen and there are two outs Joey Gallow steps to the plate right through there for a [Applause] strike just off the outside edge one and one Ruiz at second with two down well you put good velocity in the head of the hitter he's got to get it ready early and then change speeds keep him off balance that's the goal got him that ends the frame so they work around the lead off double 678 D in the bottom of the sixth it's the Braves four and the Nationals two back now for the bottom of the sixth and there's a new pitcher on the mound DJ hers this softball has been really good against left-handed hitters Ramone laurano now at the [Applause] plate the pitch in the air out to Center one down back when they started construction on truest Park Freddy Freeman and Hank Aaron laid down ceremonial bricks but the first brick was put down by Eustace Morris he's the same person who laid the first stones for Old fton County Stadium and Turner Field [Applause] swing and a miss and it's own and one action in the pen down there Robert Garcia looks to be getting ready for Dave Martinez Bas is empty one away here in the bottom of the six in there for a strike at the bottom of the Zone like you said boo the Braves have really done a great job of honoring their history here at truest part when they had their first game Hank throughout the first pitch to former manager Bobby Cox and they both have statues in Monument Garden Lefty match up things not going so [Music] well Runner on at first with one gone gior shelis steps in up the middle and that one finds its way through the throw to Third and the throws off line safe at third well clearly he was ready to hit right there just kept it simple played Pepper with the middle of the infield and took it back where it came from and there's just no one there to knock it [Applause] down Orlando Aria next up for the Braves I'm curious how he decides to attack on the mound this guy at the plate has been great hitting under pressure this year left the out of the stretch Runners at first and third the short stop takes a ball [Applause] next pitch misses ball two he's getting a little frustrated out there on the mound getting hit around a little bit let's see if he can settle himself down swings through that one for strike two swing and that ball smashed on a line makes the grab Runner tags for home throw is offline and he scores and they're up by three sometimes that can be a little tough to score on it was hit so hard that getting back to the bag to tag takes a little bit of time by the time that outfielder catches it but a really good job of getting that run in from third Luke Williams next up for the Braves that one not close ball one hit hard base hit throw stops the lead runner at second two on and two out he was all over that one that pretty much split the Zone down the middle and those are the ones where you got to make them pay now in for the Braves Whit mer field certainly a factor in this one thanks to his three-run blast back in the fifth well definitely one of the most impactful swings of the game a big reason why they're working with the lead and looking to add to it right here boo that one finds the zone and that's strike one strike on the inside corner perhaps not quite ready to hit first two pitches by him for a couple of strikes now back is against the walls going to have to figure something out and figure it out quickly that misses one and two the [Applause] count battling here as he fouls it away Ella the lead Runner out at second Williams on it first with two now popped [Applause] up makes the grab and that's the inning two men left stranded but they do push across one seventh inning coming up it's the Braves five and the Nationals two back at truest partk and now the center fielder number 30 Morton back to work just missed that misses and the count is two and0 on the corner for a strike big a bat right here he did the team thing took until he got a strike now he's got to go to work shorten up that swing a little bit do whatever it takes to get on base next offering is foul back the wine of the pitch foul ball another two two upcoming the wi to kick the pitch spoils that one and it remains two and two kicks andand still two and two after the foul ball that one out to right and it hops over the wall for an automatic double well there's something really nice about getting yourself automatic double like that you get to stroll in the second base without having to worry about a throw or getting your uniform dirty and now you're just looking for the next guy to kind of do the same thing maybe put one in the Gap so you can jog home as well here comes the skipper and we're going to see a pitching change in this spot that's all for Charlie Morton it's a three-run game and we'll be back to tell you about the new arm in a minute here comes the new arm for the Braves Ronaldo Lopez he's been so good against [Applause] lefties so the lineup flips over CJ Abrams digging in for the Nationals one for three there's a strike if you're going to get something going this is the time to do it you get the lead off man on everybody's got to look over the shoulder and say I'm just going to keep the line moving don't try to do too [Applause] much righty delivers inside just missed the Nationals trailing by three here in the top half of inning number seven that's a strike and another [Applause] ball right-handed reliever keeps the back going with a foul ball man it's second foul ball another two2 upcoming good battle here about to be the eighth pitch of the atat ripped on the ground a second fires over to first so they get the out after a long battle at the plate next to hit for the Nets James Wood went down looking on three pitches last time let's see if he can be a little more aggressive right here and that's outside and it's w toó and that's outside this is a situation where the hitter is looking for something up in the zone that he can get his arms extended what you have to be careful of is that pitch that's up that's in on your hand that'll pop you up in the infield and that's exactly what the pitcher wants Runner around at third one gone next offering is foul back and he deals fights it off he'll see another and the pitch and a foul ball he stays alive one away with a runner at third the next offering misses Full Count three and two hot shot to third runs scores but a terrific play to get the out so two down now and here is Juan YZ Lopez 30 years old now he joined the team as a free agent righty to the plate that's a little bit low way out front for strike two clearly he was sitting on a fast ball right there and just ended up out in front of the slider hey you can't fault him for his commitment now he's just going to have to battle two strikes and another ball two down nobody on that's off the mark and that's ball three Luis Garcia in the on Deck Circle for the Nets clobber to right field way back [Applause] on a massive home run it's 54 those are the adats that leave pitchers exhausted he had to throw a lot of pitches and still gave up the long ball that's a bad combo that's the exact definition of hitting the ball where it's pitched taking that outside fast ball and driving it the opposite way out of the ballp punk you want to bottle that type of approach Luis Garcia digs in [Applause] now first pitch and that's in for a strike looking to get the tying run on base and that's off the Inside Edge and it's a ball and a strike the pitch swinging a foul straight [Applause] back here's a onew that one hit to right lauriano settles under it brings it in for the third out so they get two runs on two hits one of them left the yard Midway in inning number seven and it's time to stretch it's the Braves five and the Nationals four we're back in a new pitcher here to start the bottom of the seventh number 53 just trying to keep this one close here and this is where a bullin can give their players a chance to fight back into the game and now it's the Braves DH Marcelo Zuna and here it comes and that's outside you know these Braves simply put are producing a lot of quality swings we've heard lots of loud noise coming from their bats in this one haven't we I mean they've losted six hits at 90 plus exit velocity and that doesn't happen by accident the Lefty fires on the ground the throw to first and the lead off hitter set down to open the seven good Sinker low in the zone right there and produced exactly what he was looking for ball on the ground nice ground out and now it's Matt Olsen's turn to hit on the ground right side takes it himself two up two down hey man four pitches two outs that is an excellent Pace Travis darno next up for the Braves 0 for three a fly out a ground out and a [Applause] strikeout and that's outside and that's ball one in there at the knees for a strike and another ball two down nobody on here in the bottom of the seven comes up empty that strike two this guy's got such a good Sinker as a hitter you've got to look up in the zone if you look down you're going to be chasing stuff in the dirt not even close there and that's ball three [Music] outside and that is ball four now a great back in fourth and that at bad he had to lay off some really close pitches and somehow Boogie found a way to keep the bat on his shoulder right there I'll tell you right now I couldn't have done it lorano in the box now no balls in a Strike wow just a beautiful back door slider right there if You' got any chance of hitting that pitch you have to wait until the absolutely last millisecond just a tough pitch to hit and not an easy one to throw either sharp grounder that's through for a base hit throw in holds the lead runner at second two on now with two away couldn't have timed it up any better than that there's nothing cheap about the way he got that one through the infield that was ripped caught out in front and didn't get under it like he would have liked but definitely put a good swing on it next to hit Jared Kellner there's the strike [Applause] two on two outs foul ball it stays nothing in [Music] two in the air left field and that'll fall for a base hit Travis darau coming around third he'll score and they lead by two and his hot hitting continues they kept him in the yard that time but all he's doing now is passing the Baton and everything seems to get started around this guy first of sack and two down Gio Ella next up for the Braves misses outside ball one [Applause] pretty good pitch to take a pass at in a one oh count just not able to square it up next offering is in for a strike that's inside this one in the air makes the grab and that'll end the inning but they pick up one run on the RBI single it's a two-run lead now at 64 you're watching Major League Baseball exclusively on the show welcome back in a new arm of the mound to start the eighth Dylan Lee these are the spots relievers really make a name for themselves late and close there's not much margin for error but at the same time there's a reason they're put in these situations and now the catcher comes up to him Hebert Ruiz he's already Homer in this game well both sides equally as strong so not a good time to try to turn him around with a relief pitcher and put him on the other side of the plate foul ball [Applause] [Applause] there that's the third Ella first out in the top of the eight couple of pitches and a quick out and now it's going to be Jose tenna and that one off the outside edge movement in the Atlanta Bullpen grel elus getting ready to come in for manager Brian snicker Johnson also throwing one down base is empty and a foul ball kicks and fires [Applause] bals it back with two strikes swings through that and it's a strike out and they're two down well they've had a great plan of attack for him tonight I mean finding all the holes in his swing and his approach just frustrating for him up there you strike out a guy three times in a game I think that guy's got to go back and really study some video with his hitting coach figure out how they're beating him make this adjustment really quick cuz word will get around the league in a hurry chaparo in now takes ball one off the pl swing and a miss well just threw that fast ball by him elevated and if you're not looking up in that location very difficult to catch up to especially with that velocity out to Center Williams moving under this one nabs it and that is that back Now new pitcher on the mount as we roll into the bottom of the eighth Jacob Barnes coming on to face a righty here and he's been fantastic against him this year his numbers in those matchups are very good and now the short stop Orlando Aria he's over for one the pitch sang get a ball popped up Garcia makes the catch and there's one gone really nice job to get get your first out of the ball game l so digging in Luke Williams and a pop up right side foul territory and there's two away up next for Atlanta the second Bas s and now Whit marafield he's already homered here in this [Applause] one in the air out towards left Center Abrams makes the grab and that is that and the Braves go down quietly they still lead it though 6-4 we're back and on the mound is the closer ryel elus he's having a ton of success facing left handed hitters this season so this seems like a smart move to turn to him with a lefty at the plate the wind to the pitch Gallow leading things off and takes a strike man I mean nice job just presenting it to be better than it actually was that Clips The Zone and the count is 0 and [Applause] two swings and misses and a strike out for the first out here in the ninth well that right there is what you want to see out of your closer come in and close the door cancel any hope that that opponent has in making some type of comeback in the ball game tell you what that helps him settle in and that helps everybody else relax a little bit to get these other two outs the pitch Off the Mark there and it's one and one fast ball for a strike the Braves up by two near the top of the [Applause] night swing and a miss struck him out oh this kind of tough tough right here closer comes in and he strikes out the first two hitters it's hard not to feel defeated and that this is going to go quickly but you got to go up there maybe try to find a way to choke up on the bat spread out put the ball in play and maybe you can extend this inning and that one hammered lauriano going back ball game well this was a tightly played game got a little of everything some timely hitting runs on the board key pitching and Def defense in certain spots definitely a fun one to watch and this one ends with a final score of 6 to four for Chris Singleton and our entire outstanding crew here at MLB the Show I'm John shamie we'll see you soon
