hello Red Wave welcome to beware of Bulldogs podcast my name is Caleb nail that's Caleb plz today is the first preview for the 2024 college football season as our Fresno State Bulldogs take on the F the Michigan Wolverines bear with us it's going to be a bumpy ride in this one it's the first one we're getting everything out of the way let's do it [Music] [Applause] [Music] what's going on everybody I hope your day is off to a wonderful start or off to a wonderful end wherever you're listening to us whenever you're listening to us we thank you we really appreciate it we have really felt the love from the Red Wave the past couple of days and uh we're fired up to say the least for this college football season so you have just finished listening to the get to know with Anthony broom he covers Michigan uh for on three if you haven't I recommend you go listen to that he runs through in a quick fashion their roster what you need to look out for on Saturday players names maybe some positions that we can take advantage of some position groups we can take advantage of he was great so thank you Anthony so now you're G to get the full preview from and it's a full biased preview by the way we only talk Fresno State here and we love Fresno State so we're going to talk Fresno State football um we have we're going to quickly jump through the Michigan stuff what we learned from talk some football so we spoke with Anthony broom from on three Sports covers Michigan once again check them out here's what we know what we typically go through we go through the record we go through the schedule well it's easy for us nobody has any wins nobody has no no one has anyone any losses they haven't played anyone yet so we don't need to cover that we do need to talk about some players who are some players on Michigan that you're kind of keying in on I on the offensive side of the ball has to be running back Donovan Edwards I mean we we've seen this guy you know if you watched college football last year watched Michigan win the national championship you saw how special this guy is um but he was the you know the backup behind a really good running back and bl corm so corum's off to the NFL now it's Donovan Edwards and another guy behind him khil mullings um so to really accomplish running backs and uh FR State defense is going to have their handful but Donovan Edwards I mean he looks like the kind of game breaking running back that uh defensive coordinators really have to be concerned with and their backup running back just so everyone knows is a fifth year so the guys had five years in a gym just to get huge so it's not some young guy coming in to run to replace Blake corm uh I I'm with you Donovan Edwards is who I'm keying in on but I also want to add their tight end Loveland because I feel like they could do a lot of damage just hand the ball and then run play action we don't know who the starting quarterback is going to be they haven't released that yet we assume it's going to be orgy once again unfortunate last name I brother you you need to change your last name I in my opinion I not a fan but anyways um I can't say it out loud around my kid when the game's on so that's why but anyways uh we don't know who it's going to be so I what I'm assuming is that they're going to rely a lot on the running game because JJ McCarthy has been the starter for couple years now and then to open up the passing game right they're going run the ball so play action is going to be open and they have a wonderful tight end there he's very good so that's what those are the two players I'm keying in on and then I would say Graham on the defensive line would be the defensive player that I'm keying in on that holding line is good but okay when we get to their keys of the game I I got an idea for them but Graham is a player I'd key in on on defense any players on defense for the Wolverines that you're key keying in on yeah on the secetary will Johnson I mean the name people probably know he's very very talented quarterback so um seeing how you know may either Jaylen Moss or Magdalena or whoever's going to be on the outside how they match up there is going to be really interesting because we we think very highly of our wide receiver Court we think they're very talented um so to see them up against you know I guess the best in the sport it's really going to show um you know maybe how well you know we're going to be able to Fair against um you know our Mountain West competition who is not going to have a quarterback uh quite to that level and uh just to go back to coulston Loveland that was the one player I heard in the coach's press conference that was actually mentioned on Michigan is said they are very uh clued into number 18 on the Michigan offense so um coach Coyle's ready for him uh hopefully they are able to um you know get the pieces in place to limit his uh his explosiveness yeah it's G to be fun the last thing we do that we talk about before we get into all of our uh segments is kind of the play style like what can we expect from the other team when it comes to play style K we don't really know because I I say that light I should I'm not going all in on what we don't know because I have a feeling like it's Michigan there isn't a ton of turnover on the coaching staff there's still some coaches there that were there under Harbaugh so they they what I W how I would put it is it's not they don't have the same identity as they did last year they're not going to line up and just slam it down your throat like they did Penn State run it what 30 plus times in a row there may be different different things that they do especially with a dual threat quarterback like orgy if he gets the starting job so I think play style is kind of open here Anthony said there may be some read option type stuff some designed quarterback Keepers I would expect that what are your thoughts on play style am I missing here or is this something that you're thinking about as well yeah I'm definitely curious about it I think that last year Chiron Moore at the helm for four games I think it was when kotara was suspended so we did see you know he has Workhorse running backs and he's not afraid to just pound it if his offensive line is dominating so I honestly I wouldn't be surprised if this was as expected for a Michigan just grounded pound team so um just because you know like you mentioned the the quarterback is just big question mark he could be awesome he could be not awesome so we we'll have to see about that on the defensive side of the ball from show other shows I've listened to a lot of people are mentioning their defensive coordinator marale got a reputation of being a heavy Blitzer who knows if that continues or if that is you know more of an off NFL I guess personality that he had coming over from the NFL so we'll see I mean is uh I guess frenzal State you know running backs and tight ends able to assist with with the picking up blitzes and giving Mikey enough time to make a play that's a big question mark too yeah it's going to be fun man I I don't know what to expect I don't think many people do I don't think Michigan fans know what to expect so when I say identity maybe that's the wrong word I think it all what I here's what I'm going to stand on Cale I'm G plant my flag in this it all depends on who their quarterback who their quarterback is and how they perform the first couple drives that's the mission that we're going to get for probably the rest of the season okay before we get into Gonna Make You Sweat Everybody Dance Now Keys the game the to deep was released today Caleb but I pulled it up and before I share my screen for all the new people here we work on a G5 Wi-Fi so if it all goes to kapoot I apologize here we go all right I got to zoom in here so that everybody can see uh starting quarterback no surprise Mikey Keane Jaden mandal was named second string it does say or Joshua wood but it was said earlier by uh coach mccan that mandal is our guy at number two no surprises there oh okay we'll keep going running back Malik shod Elijah Gillian number two no surprise there I'll get back to Malik in a second left tackle now here here's always the fun part every year this happens Gil torian penri or Kingsley Ugo I think penri has the starting job right now ugu did get in every once in a while he transferred from Kansas state was here last year didn't play a whole lot did get a couple snaps vorian penri starter at left tackle left guard osar valz Center MOS vow Right Guard Campbell mcar which I think is the probably the surprise if you are just tuning in to fresen State football you haven't heard that name before Campbell mcar at Right Guard right tackle brayan Nelson who Caleb you and I got to meet and shake hands with he's the biggest guy on the o line uh he is massive he's massive thoughts on o line and who's highlighted on the two deep yeah biggest question is left tackle uh pen right you know guy that's been in the program for a while and I think is consistently improved hopefully he is up to the task of being you know blinds side protector for Mikey I think uh would feel much better if that was Jacob spower but he's not quite back from inur yet so pen R has got the job right now I'd be surprised if uh ugu was um because I know it says or there so I'd be surprised if he was in there unless there was some sort of injury to pen right because he just just seemed like he hopefully there was some big improvements in the off season but there was some some mistakes last year from muu that you know definitely needed to be cleaned up besides that you know MOS leader captain on the offensive line solid and then you know I was listening to the radio today Paul leer very complimentary of Campbell Macar and you know a guy that started Kali and then ended up here after Oregon State I believe so been around a little bit and the guy that's definitely been improving and so hopefully he's able to contribute a right card there so and then like you said brilin Nelson very uh like funny outgoing personality so it was good to you know meet him and uh just kind of see that side of it so he seems to have right tackle locked down so I feel feel pretty good about that but boy we'll see how how left tackle goes that's the that's the biggest question mark yeah to finish out the the offense wide receivers three were listed Magdalena shodon James and Jaylen Moss no Josiah Freeman here Caleb he is injured we've been told he's not listed as backup anything like that uh if people are not familiar with the name shadon James I don't to be honest I don't know if I'm saying that correct I'm guessing it's shadon James um transfer from Idaho State along with railan sharp the name below him transfer from Missouri State I think we're going to see both of those guys play Tim Greer obviously and then we have lynon River listed as well behind Magdalena there's no surprise there kale but losing Josiah Freeman and his height and Jaylen Moss is listed at 61 he's not tiny but having a 63 wide receiver and Josiah Freeman is always nice it's a nice Target to have on the outside what are your thoughts on this wide receiver core and and who's to say uh Freeman isn't back by the way by by Saturday because I haven't heard if he's actually out I just heard that he's dealing with an injury right now if you have I think yeah coaching staff mentioned in the press conference that he was weak to week so U if we remember from the Tedford days that could mean anything that could mean he's done for the year or it could mean he'll be back next week so um hopefully for Freeman's sake hope it's a quick recovery and it it seemed like a minor one so um yeah i' I'd expect to to see him back here soon and you know being so early in the season I I don't blame him for trying to take some precautions and not rush him back if you know another week or two can really help the healing get back to full strength when conference play comes around tight end Jake bowst or Cameron be it just depends on what formation we run out there I'm sure U I think that was a given we knew that was those were going to be the two guys all right moving to defense I think a lot of people have questions about defense uh our ends are listed as Cory foran or jaison Jax and dvo bridges a no surprise with Cory Foreman jaon Jax and dvo that are D tackles Gabriel Lightfoot and kavika bumgardner I think some people may be surprised to see bumgartner Jacob Holmes was a name people may know the other name Charles remlinger that was not mentioned Charles remlinger unfortunately suffered a season ending injury dude I am so bummed uh I know his parents and I know his dad really wanted to see him and his his brother out there on the field it kills me I'm cheering for him but I will say I'm going to look at the positive here this gives him another year if he can get that red shirt in the injury red shirt year and then he can really play with his brother that would be fun to watch so no remlinger this year um get better soon my friend but let's go back to the two deep Caleb dvo bumgartner Lightfoot Foreman or Jax are listed as the starters anything that You' like to talk about here on defensive line I think that defensive line and there's just so frequent of substitutions for this position group at least what we've seen with Coach Franklin in the last you know year or two that all all these guys are going to be getting reps so so Ezra Christensen and Jacob Holmes especially he had a great year last year uh towards the end so I I would expect to see all eight of these guys get uh you know some rotation play throughout the game so less consequential maybe it's more just for I guess you know enforcing you know who has had a really good spring or summer workout and you know rewarding those guys to be named the starter but I'd expect a pretty um consistent rotation there yeah and son Noah can't forget to mention him He's listed as well so uh linebackers Malai Langley or Phoenix Jackson as well as Tui nura who is listed as a captain this year and then Tyler Melo and Tim Thomas to back those guys up those are five really good Lineback backers I'm really excited about this linebacker cor I know we're watching LV Bailey get pick sixes in preseason for the Broncos and we're really missing him Coach Coyle said it he really thinks this linebacker core might be better than last year I really like these guys like I'm really excited about this linebacker corale what about you yes this is like maybe one of my hot takes that I maybe should have saved for the end of the show but I don't want to say here like I I wouldn't be surprised if we come out in more of like a 4 or3 defense uh this game that's based on just pure speculation but when you have these guys and especially with Phoenix listed as an or and he's really talented and quick so like being able to play in coverage like I I it would not surprise me to see three linebackers on the field at the same time especially with you know a healthy Tue uh Malachi Langley been here forever you can always count on him we're going to need him to gobble up a lot of tackles and to get Phoenix on the field too I think we we have to consider that so I i' I've been pondering on that for a while and I think that is what we need to do especially when we talk about the next position group which is probably the biggest question marks on the defense at Nickelback um so any comments or thoughts on a potential for three uh that I'm just making up but I feel like we should do it dude I'm all in and especially against a team that in the past has been run heavy let's stack the box with seven guys and bring Clark down a little bit I trust our Corners right now and we'll get there in a sec like beat us up the middle or sorry beat us outside we dare you because we're going to stop you in the middle I dude I'm in I like man they should pay you a little bit um yeah Nickelback RJ Reagan the transfer gets the starting job over and listed at number two is Justin Houston we've talked about this at length Caleb be a couple weeks ago who is going to be at Nickelback or because we saw brocka there we saw Houston there and then they bring in through the transfer portal RJ who's it gonna be we don't we didn't know so this is a surprise to most people as in like because we just didn't know I'm excited to see him play I haven't seen him play uh so I what are your thoughts on it yeah hopefully he is the surprise of the defense of the year just a guy um that didn't hear a lot about and he becomes a a just stalard of this defense so um and you know looking behind them another guy that we did get to meet is uh charlot and Charles who is a a you know fun guy good personality that we met at the dinner too so he's probably in that in that mix too behind Houston Justin Houston's a guy that's been in the program a long time and just had a lot of bad luck with injury so hopefully he's back to full strength and he has been a really um you know solid contributor for uh the fres state defense in the past so hopefully you know to have that depth that Nickelback is going to be an asset and hopefully rean is you know nice surprise for us this year I wouldn't be surprised if both of them play Saturday and not because it's a blowout and we're losing it's I I think there may be a quiet competition going on here not sure I don't know I haven't heard that but I'm I'm wondering just because I don't know I I just want to see Justin Houston get in there I'm cheering for the kid man it's been unfortunate what what he has had to go through at corner Cam lockage and ailan Hamilton no surprise there backups to them Jakari Embry and Julian Neil anything on the corners Cale there this was known at the end last year kind of who was totally yeah I mean glad to have Cam back um azillion really solid player too Julian Neil we've heard good things about him constantly improving over the offseason I mean the unknown is Embry haven't really seen a whole lot from him and hopefully he doesn't have to see the field because everyone stays healthy but I mean there's definitely a chance he's going to have to get get some rotation time in so um yeah that's a question mark back there just because you know we don't really know and I haven't really seen him yep then moving on to safety the constant Dane Clark or the consistant Dean Clark he's there and Cameron brocka listen as the other safety we were talking about is he gonna play nickel is's he gonna play safety he's starting safety Coy gets the backup to Cam jayen Davis is the other backup you know K I fell into this trap like we are talk we've talked so much about the line linebackers and the dline and Cam and azillion I've kind of glossed over Dean but Dean Clark is a good player he's only gotten better from last year I am really excited to see Dean kind of thrive in this offense I think he can be like that missing piece that we needed and totally and especially a second year with Coach Coyle and who focuses on the safeties really you know expert defensive mind and I just a second year being in the program I think is really going to help Dean and you understand all the concepts and maybe try to get um you even more crazy with whatever coils got cooking up but I mean something I just realized about these safeties is like this is the localist uh position group here I mean we have Jaden Davis Bard Cameron Brock Canon and KY aana Sanger so uh and then Dean Clark Ohio so he's he's definitely the outlier there but um I mean that's a just really cool position group there just to have so much local talent and uh yeah it's really cool and I agree with you a lot of the potential here for this position group to be uh really solid this year the other thing looking at this can you imagine Dean Clark and Cameron brocka about to light you up that is Gonna Hurt these guys can hit hard they're gonna be a lot of fun to watch uh moving on to special teams Dylan Lynch starting kicker Nick Verdugo or Kay Lawrence listed as the punter Kaleb you brought something up before we clicked live about the punter like they actually went or with the punter they're they don't want to give anything away for Michigan that's it I don't know what what do you thoughts on the punter well for for one of my you know preseason predictions it's going to be pretty silly if it's not Klay Lawrence just because I predicted him to be a weapon for us so um I mean I I wouldn't be disappointed if it turns out to be for Dugo but yeah I have a hard time seeing the the strategy of this of you know not naming your punter but um that's why we're not the coaches and I guess any Edge you can get you can go ahead and get it Kay by the way we got we met clay and Connor trip the backup kicker Connor trip is listed at 510 Clay is listed at 63 I don't know if you remember these guys but I remember being taller than both of them is it is that true I I don't I don't remember meeting Klay Lawrence I I do remember seeing Dylan Lynch and Connor trip and okay was Dylan and Connor then yeah it was both of them thinking like wow I guess that's what a five inch height difference looks like it was uh but like I said earlier we've talked about this their legs are massive yes massive strong so uh I oh the other thing is that there's some guys on here listed at 61 62 that's right around my height that I was definitely taller than I just I think I'm listed as 63 on the 2D I'm just saying so everybody and pads and helmet you're definitely 6 that helps me out thank you uh long Snapper Wesley Brown or Michael Munos Caleb to be honest I couldn't I couldn't tell you if one is going to be better than the other or thoughts on this I don't have many I well our friend Jacob Westberry would say you just want to not be noticed um so whoever is gonna just do his job that's that's who we want back there yep uh holder Verdugo uh kickoff now here's the fun part kickoff return and punt return Malik sherro got both of them so Kaleb my hot take is still alive because my hot take was that Malik Rod's going to lead the country in allpurpose yards well that can still happen if he's returning punts and kickoffs Malik you you got this brother it's gonna be fun uh M's gonna tear this place up I'm I'm saying there's gonna be another no I'm not saying it I'm not saying it not jinxing anything Caleb thoughts on a kickoff and punt return going to Malik yeah Malik sure handed at pun return I like that and he's obviously the very quick and an experienced returner I also like having Mack back there as kind of the secondary returner one for his speed and also just uh very strong com uh contributor on special teams like for his whole Bulldog career he's always been very dependable and played hard on special teams so definitely respect that and you know love having that as you know lead blocker diversion and know possible threat too it's going to be fun man I'm really excited uh commodity right now but I can do your business so 559 the number again 897 581 Caleb let's talk about what's going to make us sweat as an expert on sweat and sweat I may as well be a sweat scientist that's right experts in sweating my wife always tells me to put on more deodorant K what is Gonna Make You Sweat this Saturday when the Bulldogs walk into Ann Arbor and it's full of 100,000 plus yeah this is probably my least favorite segment because I have to start thinking negative and then I don't want to put my negative thoughts into the atmosphere because I would hate for them to come true but when we started think about what's going to make me sweat I mean the first thing I went to is a serious injury and what would be worse than our quarterback getting injured so um I I can't believe I'm even saying that um you can like play the boo music or something if you want but um like I I will be sweating if there's a serious injury and especially if it's to the quarterback I obviously we have a very good strength staff I don't think that's going to happen the offensive line is going to do their job but that that would definitely make me sweat if there's an early injury that fredal state has to overcome I agree I I was looking for boo music I don't know if I put any on here did I I don't think so well you're you're uh you're I'm off the hook you're off the hook brother uh yeah I'm gonna sweat same reason offensive line I I this dline is so good at Michigan now there's ways to combat that just talk to Georgia Tech but their dline is as advertised so I'm going to sweat if the dline comes out the gate gets a good push because we're in for a long day now now our dline might have something to say as well and I'll be really excited if that's the case but if we are unable to get our offense going running and passing because we can't give Mikey time we can't open up a hole for Malik or Elijah it's G to be tough so what's going to make me sweat and what's going to make Mr PL sweat offensive line play yeah and I I think we'll know pretty early on all right is there anything else K I think that's really it I think that's priority number one I think it has to be I mean other than maybe on the defensive side of the ball if Michigan hands it off 35 straight times and fral State doesn't have an answer for that that that would make me sweat it would be a long game but also probably a fast game if the clock keeps ticking so um yeah that that would be the only other thing is if Michigan just runs it down our throat like Air Force would just hand it off hand it off hand it off I got one for you if we miss our first field goal from the left hash it's gonna be a long year Dylan's had all offseason I believe in him that he is going to be uh capable from from both hash marks if you're just joining uh this year past two seasons has been really tough for us from the left hash uh Mr PL Cale PL pointed it out a couple years ago and ever since he said that we have had trouble so I blame this on you unfortunately it's uh just what I noticed but yeah with having that several Lefty kickers in a row uh we've become a to just wanting to stay on the right side of the field so that way you know it's a nice nice draw for the kicker to make through the upright uh but none of that's going to happen there will be no sweating Saturday other than just getting amped up and it's not going to be 105 degrees in C in uh Fresno in Bulldog Stadium former Bulldog Stadium all right next segment is everybody dance now just so everyone knows I'm preface this segment with this if this hits is it's kind of like a a prediction that we do if this hits the person that did that has to sell their soul to the internet and do a dance for everyone uh and our dance moves are pretty terrible ple please pray for us uh we want these to hit by the way we want these to hit absolutely but it's going to be tough but everybody dance now this year is brought To Us by jival Winery local Winery in the Central Valley they are located on Biola Avenue just north of Shaw so take Shaw if you're in Fresno Clovis take Shaw go west go all the way out to Biola Avenue the small town of Bola say brick o Brick Oven wood fire it's actual wood and if you are a neapolitan pizza snob like myself it is almondwood that's the fire so it's almondwood neopolitan style brick oven pizza is out there as well bring the family out there's uh there's place for the kids to roam you cannot bring your dogs unfortunately you cannot bring food they wanted me to let you know that but there is pizza there and there are other dog the winery has dogs so and they're a lot of fun so they they are not dog friendly so they cannot have other dogs out there so please come out to jiv winery and shoot every once in a while Caleb and I are out there um and let them know that we sent you they would be happy to uh happy to hear that and who knows you might get something you might get some special treatment hopefully they'll treat you special anyways but uh head out to jille Winer Saturday and Sundays noon to 5 everybody dance Everybody Dance Now first of the Season Caleb what is Fresno State gonna have to do to make you dance this game all right I'm gonna take one like for halim and I think this is attainable if FR State's leading at halime I am gonna be dancing so super attainable I I this could definitely happen and I could have this video on the internet you know during halftime so um get get the views and the clicks uh while everyone's on their phone um so maybe I'm going to regret saying that because I want them to be uh leading at the end of the game but if frz State's winning at halftime I'll be dancing I've been going back and forth I like that one by the way K I've been going back and forth on this for the past couple weeks what am I GNA do because last year it was easy I went kickoff return for a touchdown every week played around with it every once in a while because I I didn't know if I was jinxing it or not but the week I did say that one of the weeks I said that it happened happened so we danced our booty off I've been thinking about sticking with that just because it's it's just what we do now like we return kickoffs for touchdowns and I'm scared it's going to be a long long time until I see one again so that's just one I'm going to leave that I'm that is going to be one constant through the rest of this year so if Malik sherro or Delena I saw Shon James listed on there whoever takes one back it could be an on-site kick a squib we take off it we take a kickoff return or a punt return now because we really need a punt return I'm gonna dance that's for the entire season don't not out there right now for this game I want two turnovers by the defense and no turnovers by the offense mhm if that happens I believe yes we will be up by up at halftime and I think that gives us a good chance to win the game if we convert those turnovers into points because I me I'm just being honest here everybody it this game is going to be really hard for us really hard and our best shot of doing that of of winning this game because I don't play for close I don't play for covering the spread no no one plays no one in Fresno plays for covering the spread we leave that to other teams we play to win the game and so if we convert on if we force turnovers and convert off of them there's at least I'm saying 10 points we're gonna score a touchdown on one of them 10 points going going our way and then zero turnovers we're clean that means I mean hopefully we're not punting three and outs but that means we're kicking fueld goals we're winning the field or uh the why' I go blank all of a sudden winning field position thank you we're winning the field position game so that's going to be my everybody dance now all year kickoff punt return for a touchdown and then this game two turnovers by the defense it's going to be two cam lock picks he knows their girlfriend's names Malik sherro does two all these we're ready for them cam lockage two picks and uh and maybe even like Cory Foreman strip sack there's three but I just going with two okay and smart decisions but Above All Else our o line has to have chemistry they have to be strong and then because I haven't talked about it I think our linebackers are going to have to wrap up and Tackle at the point of attack like right away the shed blocks and tackle that is my key to the game just because of the threat of Donovan Edwards and that offensive line running the ball down our throat the dline in my opinion is good enough to get a push uh and plug up some holes but it's really going to be at the next level with our linebackers Malachi Langley tuura Phoenix Jackson Tyler Melo all those guys that where they are wrapping up beating him to a spot and tackling him that is my main key to the game Caleb uh and the great thing about this is that I love our linebackers we can do that that's big time force them to throw the ball at cam lockd because he's gonna have two picks totally yeah very very good point about tackling that is important and maybe something we Overlook often that that that is a pretty important part of football I got a couple kind of same vein make Michigan throw the ball we know the running game is really good so put seven in the box and let's trust our DBS to handle one-on-one and let's let's make him throw it and I think we can have some Advantage there so make him throw and then on the offense you know how can how is Pat mccan going to elevate his game as a play caller you know we had some really strong games last year and then some some calls that I think he wants back he he mentioned in the press conference that he's going to be calling plays on the field this year so a little bit different you know nowadays most OC's are in the booth and you know trying to get the bird's eyee view to call the plays he's he's going to be on the field so that's going to be a bit of a challenge um I think maybe not seeing the whole picture who knows maybe better communication so maybe some pros and cons there that's not really a key so the key is Malik sherad I think he needs at least 200 allpurpose yards on the ground he needs to be a big factor in this offense and so I think if he has 200 all purpose yards that puts Fresno State in a really good position to to be competitive I like that the last thing I'll say about keys to the game I don't know if you watched week one or week zero and we're going to talk about it in a sec some of our reactions to week zero but Georgia Tech dominated on the ground against Florida State and Florida State had now it may have been self-proclaimed but had a very good defensive line self-proclaimed quotes top defensive line in the country they dominated and one of the ways they did that was a lot of pre- snap motion I think we could use that to our advantage as well so I'm interested I'm with you what is Pat mccan doing how is he going to use motion to get Malik open because I think you we want our best players in space and I think we have a lot of quick players in the slot at the running back position Elijah gilam is going to rough him up they they're going to have to tackle differently depending on who's carrying the ball there's a lot we can do and to add pre snap motion to that add pulling guards I mean we keep them on their heels just like what Georgia Tech did and so that's one of the things I'm looking for and I think that that I'm going to add that to key of the game keys to the game we just have to keep them guessing keep them on the back of their heels and uh just if we are able to dominate the running game and I mean it may we may use Malik in the passing game that's how he gets a lot of his yards that's fine too but if we are able to dominate on the ground that no one will expect that I would be shocked and extremely excited and I think a lot of people would be talking about Fresno State on National Television if we dominate Michigan on the ground that would be awesome okay sorry go ahead just saying I agree with you there I'm glad we're on the same page it helps uh okay Caleb you are the designated weather guy on here so every week Caleb's going to bring us the weather where you can find it on TV and radio and then the spread and Caleb said he wanted the weather job because he can't be fired it's the one job you can't be fired if you mess it up so that's what no I just made that up all right so this week big week for fres State football obviously opening week but uh National broadcast on NBC you got a kickoff at 4:30 p.m. local Pacific time that is 7:30 um on site in Michigan and so we got the The A Team for NBC their broadcasters Noah Eagle Todd blackl and Katherine Tappen um I'm sure most of you are going to be tuning in on the Bulldog Sports Network to our friends Paul Pat and Camp so um much better uh commentary from them I can guarantee that but um it's G to be a nice day in uh in Arbor Michigan uh high is 82 degrees should be mostly sunny coming up this week there is some showers uh leading up to this game so you know obviously not quite the dry climate that it is here so you know the rain is a possibility but it looks like on Saturday should be a beautiful day for some football that could change a lot of things Caleb if it is wet on the ground I I hope it's dry uh what is the spread on that do you have that oh I think I had it before uh Michigan is favored by 21 and a half points and I believe over under total 45 and a half last I checked so with a 21 and a half Point Underdog in Fresno State 45 a half over under and they're not they're not picking us to score a whole lot of points and neither is anyone else in the country the most I have seen slap heard is Anthony broom on our get to know he picked Fresno State to score 13 points Caleb would you give us your final score prediction for Fresno State at Michigan gladly all right so we did our you know pre-season pick every game and I I picked this as a loss for Fresno State but upon reflection what what am I doing here obviously think FR State's going to win this game so it's going to be a crazy game FR State's going to pull this one out 23 to 22 and it's gonna come down to field goals and we have experience Dylan Lynch and he he's gonna knock him through when it counts so um I I know I picked this as a loss for Fresno State in our our season wins Total but I I I got a feeling some something special might happen here and what why not it's the first game of the year we we need to be optimistic here so win for Fresno State 23 3 22 I like that my and what I have written down is 26 24 Michigan but because you said that we win 2726 we're down 2426 we kick a field goal win the game at the buzzer how about that let's go we can do it I mean georia kned off Florida State so yeah any anything can happen especially week one okay being let's go back to a conversation we had was it a week ago maybe two weeks ago but we talked about what would you be okay with okay let's just say that Fresno loses what would you say a loss is never good but I think there's a way to show the rest of the country that hey watch out for Fresno State so if we were to lose what would you be okay with what would that score look like uh probably losing by maybe two scores of 10 to 14 points and you know maybe keeping the game close for maybe three and a half quarters and then Michigan scores you know one or twoo late to kind of pull away and make the score look a little bit more impressive than it actually is I agree I'm I would love to score more than two touchdowns in this game just because I I I always tend to get a little frustrated if we don't score more than two touchdowns so I'd love to score more than two touchdowns so I'm thinking if we lose 2135 I'm happy I'm with you two-score game I'm I'm I would be okay with that I can live with that yep yeah once again we're not playing for a loss here we don't play to cover the spread play to win the game and that's what we're going to do all right Caleb let's run through the Mountain West for week one actually I want to run through week zero really quick because Mountain West did play three games New Mexico lost to Montana State in Ultimate choke fashion Nevada lost to SMU in another choke fashion I both of them choked is bad and then Hawaii I would say underperformed against Delaware State I so I don't know if you know this kale but I do a pod every Monday Wednesday and Friday more early in the morning called nailed at Sports and I talked about this this morning yes these are the three B teams other than San Jose State I would throw San Jose State into this mix so I was not expecting much and by the way I did go four and0 in week zero just so you know I picked Georgia Tech to win and I picked against those two Mountain West teams that lost but I was cheering for them I was cheering for them what is your initial reaction to the choke job by New Mexico and Nevada and then in my opinion Hawaii not perform performing like they should have well I agree with you I expected Montana state to win just because they have you know Montana Montana State the north Dakotas the South Dakotas admittedly I kind of bunched them all together and they're they're the same school with the same identity so I I just assume that they were going to play New Mexico tough and so they they came back in the end so credit to them I I think Nevada was more competitive than I thought they would be I expected them to get blown out so the fact that they did keep it close you know even though they did kind of give it up I I I think that's a positive for Nevada and you know maybe they're going to be a little feistier than than we we expected this year and then for Hawaii and you never know what's going to happen on the island I think that the weather was probably crazy and you know who who knows uh how the crowd was and anything so I think they they should just be happy with the win you know they won by three touchdowns and that's probably good enough they they were favored by way too much um but that's why we don't actually gamble with our own money so please do not take our advice so yeah overall not not too um not too crazy with what happened I think like you said these are you know probably the the bottom teams uh of the conference this year yeah I I don't gamble with my own money but if you'd like to give me money I will gamble with your money that's that's okay yeah does this hurt or not change any mind about the Mountain West does this hurt the Mountain West perception out there or does it kind of people just gloss over it I don't I don't think most casual fans are paying too much attention to the Mountain West but if anything I think Nevada keeping it close to SMU probably helps and maybe hurts their perception in the ACC like oh what why why are they joining this conference you know do they really belong there I agree with that I think SMU was way overhyped I think this kind of does hurt the Mountain West perception especially when the committee sits down and they they're talking about Fresno State after our undefeated season like ah they really didn't beat anyone and Liberty's also undefeated we're gonna go and now granted their schedule's absolutely terrible uh but I guess let's just say we lose to Michigan and then beat everybody else there's going to be a conversation there looking back on well they beat these teams but we'll see this was only one game there's a lot that's going to happen Okay week one Thursday at 7M San Jose State takes on sack State HB I kind of like sack state in this one it's really easy to think that they have a chance it's a solid Program San Jose State lot of question marks there what kind of offense are they going to be running who are their important pieces there I think San Jose stayed at home with an experienced head coach even though he's brand new I think that they'll probably get it done but yeah it's probably a close game and I think saak State's going to keep it competitive with with the Spartans and with Fresno State the following week but yeah I think San Jose State should be able to take care of business they are not a sponsor but I'm looking at FanDuel it opened at seven and a half San State seven and a half Point favorite is now moved to San Jose State minus three and a half I would have taken the seven and a half sack State now I'm thinking I'm gonna stay away from that U Colorado state gets Texas and Texas is favored by 32 and a half that has a lot of points I don't think I I think I would take Colorado State to cover in this one it opened at 35 and a half by the way it's now at 32 and a half to Texas uh I think I'm gonna take Colorado State to cover but Texas wins I agree that number seems a little disrespectful but Texas should be really good this year really good quarterbacks but Colorado state is also much improved uh I think I agree with you I'll take I'll take the points air Air Force plays miramac they win that game there is no line on uh there is no uh spread on that right now so we're I think you and I both AG Air Force defeats marac if they lose we can talk about we can I think we can Chuck that W up I'm just kidding One and0 Boise State plays Georgia Southern Georgia uh bo State opened as a 10 and a half Point favorite it has now moved in favor of Boise to 12 and A2 so they are 12 and a half Point favorite on FanDuel I you know I don't know what to think about Boise yet I like this team uh they're going to be pretty good but Georgia Southern know they run that spread look they throw the ball over the field they they're going to turn the ball over a lot and so yeah make two touchdowns is I would probably take Boise minus 12 and a half but if their defense struggles and usually week one defenses do struggle everybody struggles week one but if Georgia state gets a couple big plays here and there this game's close scale but I am gonna take Boise minus 12 and a half yeah I think considering this is a home game for Georgia Southern I think that I probably give them a little bit more uh chance here and I I don't think Boise's defense is going to be that good this year um I think I will take Georgia Southern to cover that okay this surprised me when I saw this UNLV plays Houston Houston is only or it opened as Houston three and a half favorite then has moved to Houston being a two and a half Point favorite so once it gets under 3K I don't touch it but UNLV is a good team I don't know much about Houston I think did they lose their head coach yeah they fired him and their new coach I can't remember who he is but uh he was highly regarded when he came in so but new coach new program and uh you know they just lost their one of their associate athletic directors too so that's got to be uh debilitating for that program uh I'm gonna take you LV here I agree yeah I think that if unov has cracked up to what they are supposed to be in preseason polls then they should handle Houston Nevada plays Troy Nevada is a nine and a half Point dog in this one after what you saw against SMU does that change your mind it kind of does uh I think that from what I've heard from the national shows Troy's rebuilding and uh Nevada looked uh competent and yeah I think that you know if they're getting whatever the number was I eight and a half or somewhere around there n and a half yeah nine and a half well I'll take I'll take the points with Nevada it opened at they opened a 16 and a half Point underdogs it's now moved to N9 and a half so that's a big jump I hope you got in at 16 and a half that that would have been nice but yeah I I still think Nevada and that line I bet you that spread moved after the SMU game uh but I'll take n at plus n and a half uh Hawaii gets UCLA Hawaii is a 14 and a half Point dog I think think their defense is really going to struggle against UCLA they have some really good wide receivers can shager keep up with the UCLA uh wide receivers and score a bunch of points I don't know I think I'm going to take UCLA to cover the 14 and a half in this one I wasn't impressed with them against Delware State yeah I I didn't watch any of Hawaii so I don't have any of that information cloud in my my judgment I am so down on UCLA this year they they're going to be the worst team in the big big 10 so I I think I think Kawai has a chance to win this game so I I will I will take the points and I think Kawaii has a chance to win at at home I mean that that's a tough travel for for any team going to the islands okay I'll take UCLA to win you're changing my mind UCLA to win but Hawaii covers how about that opened at 15 and a half Point underdogs for uh to Hawaii by the way um Fresno State Michigan we talked about that Utah State plays Robert Morris they are 31 and a half Point favorites in this I I don't I don't like taking these massive spreads in week one so Robert Morris covers but yeah Utah State's gonna win this yeah I agree I mean Utah state has an interim coach or you know new coach after firing in the offseason but it's a FCS game that they should win who I have no idea what the you know final score is going to be right San State placed Texas A&M Commonwealth I believe or Commerce uh it just said Comm on there so that's a guess they are 34 and a half Point favorites in this one I'm I'm gonna take oh God this is the hard part because we don't know what we're going to get from San dieo state they're changing their offense they have a freshman quarterback K I don't know I'm not I'm not going to mess with this one uh but San dieo state will win yeah agree next okay Mexico gets Arizona so they played Montana State and lost now they go to a top 25 ranked team play in Arizona they are 31 and a half Point underdogs as well I think I might take New Mexico to cover in this they they're game in and uh let's let's just take advantage of that they know what they need to do better now yeah Arizona has a new coaching staff so there's a lot of stuff that they're trying to still figure out too New Mexico does have a game under though Bel their belt so yeah if you're giving them 31 points I think that that's uh should be enough to to cover that but Arizona should win that game for sure yes and last but not least Wyoming plays Arizona State Wyoming is a six and a half Point Underdog I like Wyoming in this one the experienced quarterback the toughness of Wyoming defense and the culture on that football team I'm taking Wyoming to be Arizona State I'm going to take the Devils uh you know first game of the year so they aren't completely ravaged by injury like they were last year when uh the dogs played them so I I think at home and you know a touchdown they they should be able to cover that all right that is your Mountain West preview we will do that every week uh we'll see how we do I'm probably not well but last but not least we got to shout out our listeners Kaleb we're this is a new thing
