course our debutant here on the show and we hope you enjoy guys how are you feeling Rel reled which is a bit of a Mad thing to say but yeah relieved with how things panned out ultimately yeah it was poor but these games are about just getting through and we're through and we're now in the conference league but I don't think we can just ignore it because we're through there there were a number of concerning things definitely from from from a lot of individual standpoints as well Taran your debut here on Chelsea fan TV is uh for a defeat but yeah what did you make of that game I mean we started off well got got the goal from Madrick early on but I think we mentioned it on the stream a few times as soon as that goal went in the intensity went down we had no no clue how to controll the game no clue how to stop counter attacks it was poor all over missing easy chances defense defensive mistakes all over the place I think management we we discussed that a little bit don't think the management was great in this game as well um but like you said Charlie with through we through to the conference League I'm sure we would have taken a six0 win today a 70 win but through to the conference League ra road to CAU starts today and um we're ready ready for the next game I guess Alex describe your thoughts I I think that I think we should be happy with we're through I'm I'm just relieved um I I thought we would win but I thought we would probably struggle to win convincingly I knew that we would concede that doesn't surprise me when you play with badill and um The Sassy I just think it's a it's an absolute disaster in this system I know I think tosson actually made a mistake as well for the second goal um yeah so that was disappoint pointing ultimately we got the job done that's that's the way I see it that's the way I look at it um if we lost that game somebody would have shouted by now right so we're all relieved and we need to have a serious conversation but we also need to have a realistic conversation did anyone expect us to play good football considering we played with pretty much a completely different team to what we played against played with against wolves We Didn't Start Netto We Didn't Start Palmer we had a completely different backline the Midfield was different like why why do you expect us to have the chemistry straight away to go into this game and just play great football but not it's not about playing great football like we're speaking like we've put the academy players on the pitch um the these are all top International footballers so for me like the excuse that I would played a different team to wolves does not that doesn't is not it's not running it's not running for me um because it's not like we've got a of just like 15 16 year olds on the pitch these are very good footballs got World cut win Enzo Fernandez in there Christopher and kungu mudrick um Madrid uh jub Hall was playing today uh you know there's so many good players that were playing so they were they're good players Charlie but I mean you just said it yourself Madrick and jub Madrick has been quite disappointing it is it is but I'm just saying from a Chelsea perspective I don't know why people expect us to be really good in this game no I wasn't expecting really good I was expecting better than that and I think defensively we got to ask questions 100% three out of the four games we've played this season we've let two goals in there you go that that's awful yeah that is shocking um and we look worse defensively over these three or four games this season than we did under poch last season I I don't think that's a ridiculous thing to say why why do you think that is the case what makes you like what what do you think is putting us in a position to concede more goals based on what you're seeing on the pitch I I don't know I just think maybe defensively the maybe the quality of players are just not that good you look at the center backs we spent a lot of money on center backs bought a lot of center backs in maybe people just think they're way better than they actually are for Far big fan of his we G have to give him a bit of time to come back from injury but come on The Sassy not good enough bad AI what's happened to him not good enough toen was a free signing opportunity come on he's not good enough to play week in week at the Chelsea Football Club I'm sorry he's not squad player fine and then you got Levi cwell who's young inexperience the top talent there's no standout Top Class Center back in in in the ranks at Chelsea we spent all these money this money on players there's no leadership in the backline and there's no top class Center half I think we we've got Chala I think yeah but that's not top I like Top Class cha is a good but what I mean is though there's no like there's no like there's no van djk there's no like there's no CBA there's no but who do you sign that's in that category but what I don't I haven't got the answers to that what I mean is like you that that's missing Thiago Silva's gone right that leadership that Top Class Defender gone and we' replaced it by signing someone on a three come on so a lot of issues then defensively and I do think that moving forward you know if you take the result against wolves away which is very positive you know that was a game one by our attack as it was one because we were so offensively dominant But ultimately if you look in the first half there was still those gaps weren't there that wolves were exposing you know CA got on the score sheet and then he was again left unmarked wasn't he and it's kind of this pattern where players seem to be very positionally confused they don't really know who to Mark when we're hit on the counter you see this panic mode as well often where it's like you're looking around and what do you do and I said before the game that sevette recognized those issues back at Stanford Bridge they didn't have the quality to capitalize on them but tonight they did and they were going for more they got two goals they were looking for that third as well and it arguably was you can argue because we allowed it you know yes there's a an element of quality there and I think that svette are a good side but again you have to look at ourselves and think did we make that easier for them and do you think we made that easier for them is the question I think I said at the start at the start of the stream they needed to attack they attacked us and we couldn't counter efficiently we couldn't punish them we had multiple chances on the break with Mark U with Inu drewsbury Hall had a few opportunities as well and they just they they saw blood they smel blood should I say every single time bad shill wasn't sure where to be positionally on the Counterattack I mean when they were countering us the sassy I don't really want to talk too much about him because I'm going to get quite frustrated um tosen as well not amazing stopping counterattacks on Midfield had no balance Vega looked a bit out of place in terms of when to drop into that left back position when to move into the Midfield Enzo again really poor of getting out to his man drewsbury Hall again not great defensively and I mentioned it on the stream every time they countered us we're supposed to be squeezed up as a unit left back pushes up to the left Winger right wing pushes up to the right right back right winger Center mids push up stop the counter attack every time the center mids picking up in a pocket and straight away there's a counter against wolves kounia strand lson every single time picking it up going straight at the counter Tottenham Liverpool Arsenal Aston Villa West Ham United all these teams will easily be able to stop counters if you want to even finish in the top six in the Prem the season this might be a reactionary and a convy qualifier but we cannot do it if we defend like this this is watchable times a thousand on the counter getting counted every single time no idea of what we're doing Mesa needs to get down on the training ground with those Defenders and find a clear structure because palace with e on the break mateta who's looked like TI and re recently new signing of Eddie and K again not amazing they will they will punish us easily most teams in the Prem will punish us wolves maybe we poor in the second half but if we don't sort this out ASAP we could be again in this eighth place Ninth Place worry and then owners out board out protest so hopefully yeah seriously I'm being I'm being honest it's shocking Sunday League stuff is a problem though because as say I think I said this to you after wolves Alex we're not going to score six goals every game no and if you're conceding TW on average twice a game which we have been this season you're not going to win that many football matches because you're relying on scoring three goals every week to pretty much win and that simply it's not going to happen you we've got loads of attacking quality and whatnot we're not going to score three goals every week so I don't worry about us going forward the balance in the Midfield is a little bit of a concern I don't really know what the right setup is there um and then yeah defensively in a fullback areas we're fine I think karera and Gusto decent because obviously there's always room to improve the big issues with the center backs massive issues with the center backs and it doesn't matter if it's cwell or for it doesn't matter if it's toted and bad Shield or The Sassy or whatever whatever combination of center backs we've used so far this season and it goes back to last season as well we are shocking defensively and I get it you know we're obviously trying to play in a different way now different defensive structure under moresa we're conceding the same types of goal for the last couple of Seasons now and we are still conceding that kind same kind of goal so I don't know what work's been done at the training pitch I don't know why it keeps happening but it keeps happening and it's got to stop because it's going to cost us big time well I mean the way we set up it's obvious how teams are going to break us it's always going to be on the counter um the the center backa personally I think that we need to try different different players in that position I'm not saying bad a bad isue I'm certainly not saying to sassy I'd like to see tossin starting um in the league for me if you start if you play with clowns then you look like a clown I mean I said that before on the stream it's not easy to look good when you're playing with a bunch of bumps and I think at the back today that's what it looked like um so I'd like to see other players coming in um toss him being probably my my favorite one out of the uh conference League Squad so far but yeah I mean look we made mistakes it wasn't great um we certainly looked open we can't we can't look at this team though and think that all of the problems in this team are necessarily correlated with the team that we had at wolves because the wol the team yeah we had a lot more quality on Sunday right we're still defensively poor though we were still defensively poor but I think we'd be able to what we couldn't do is control the game today and I think we would have been able ble to do that if we' played with the same players that we had against wolves just because of the fact that we could retain possession I thought we looked clueless sometimes when we were on the ball I didn't understand why we were trying to counter we were losing you want to waste time you know I'm not saying that that's that's a great place to be in where you're trying to waste time against cette I mean Vega he got a yellow for for time wasting um but if that's what you have to do to win that's what you have to do but isn't that a problem that you say like oh you know we played the same team or whatever it might have been different we would it would have been different Charli we're not going to be doing that though there's going to be multiple rotations throughout the season particularly in the conference league and if we're saying that we can only play well with like one with 11 oh if we just played the same team it would have been fine that's useless like everyone whoever's playing has got to be able to perform to a decent level and no one was decent tonight yeah I mean this is the first game um well one of the first games of the season um I think was still a long way to go you know this is the fourth game one of the first games the season this is this is early I mean I don't really think we have a serious conversation until December until defending is still a problem from last season as well have a serious conversation about defending the defending is not good enough I agree with you on that but I think um again the team just needs to Jael with each other like we we struggle enough to gel with our our starting starting 11 and then you're starting your second team and you expect them to to gel I I just don't see how um you know there are going to be people saying Mesker out after this which I will never understand um yeah he didn't manage the game well I completely agree with you on that Taran but you know the players have not played together they've not played together how do you expect dubury Hall to look like really good when he's not playing with players that he's Linked UP well with Madrick is a player renowned for he doesn't really have chemistry with anyone he plays with and I thought this was one of mri's better game we look at guu as well you know he missed two open goals uh in the first leg and today I thought yeah he struggled as well um not really enough service in the Box it was difficult for him we were forced to bring on Palmer we never wanted that to happen I mean kaiso went down in the second half I thought bloody H we've lost two of our best midfielders now with caredo and Lavia um so I just think that we've got to take it with a pinch a so I mean it sounds silly we won the game you know in in reality we're through I know we we lost this game but we won the tie um so yeah you can't be happy with what you've seen but you can be satisfied that we're actually through to the conference League we lose this game very very different conversation but we didn't yeah it's certainly a learning curve isn't it and I think that's one thing that you know patience gets thrown around a lot especially in recent times since the Takeover but we at some point do actually have to start being patient don't we because Enzo moresa isn't going anywhere frankly he shouldn't be going anywhere right because we can't be at the same spot looking again for a manager new manager coming in with new other players and it's just a whole massive mess so I think that you're right Alex these group of players are still getting to know each other and they're getting to know another manager a new manager's ideology and new manager's philosophy and maresa said it himself that it will be a different team wouldn't it he said that the one from the Premier League weekend it will be a different in the conference league and that's exactly what he we've seen he's giving a chance to everyone so take it as as an audition I guess really for every player and he is taking notes and I think moving forward and Alex as you say somewhere down the line a few wants and we can talk about are these players jelling what's not working which Partnerships are not but frankly if somebody if you ask a Chelsea fan give me your best back four there will be different answers won't there because we don't really know what our strongest back four is we don't know what our strongest potentially back three is and that's the problem that it's still kind of a work in progress trial and error so we can't say it's trial and error but instantly criticize the the result on the pitch right so if we take this as a positive right we ultimately succeed in our goal to qualify for the conference League we're going to you know face other teams it's going to be loads of different games that's when it really needs to be kind of producing and it needs to be consistent but at the end of the day it is the fourth game of the season I do choose to be a little bit more patient so while we abely can talk about the mistakes but no I know because the reaction from the fans and unfortunately there will be a negative um back Clash to with some of the players certain things as you say Alex to the manager supposedly but we should be patient no no one saying don't be patient but let's also not try and pretend this was something that it that it wasn't this was crap we're through great but that's the only positive from tonight this was a dreadful performance no one played well no one I thought MRI was good no one really covered themselves in any Glory um and we let's be honest we were lucky there we were lucky to go through tonight we we were lucky we held on I think Madrick had a good game yeah but what I mean is though no one's like you don't coming away from that thinking oh wow so and so was unbelievable today like there were some okay performances um but we were lucky tonight we were lucky and look I'm I'm not throwing no one's throwing the season away anything like that but we if we're specific but if we're specifically talking about this game there are zero positives from it zero other than the fact that we've gone through that's the only positive the only one that matters though it is the only one that matters but what I mean is going forward so we can't just ignore the recurring issues weaken Midfield again for for for the first goal and as I said defensively really poor as well I I get it it's going to take time but this is not four games bad defensively this is all of last season shocking defensively I know it's a different manager but it's the same Defender bosen uh shocking in preseason defensively shocking in every game defensively so far this season as well maybe bar the first leg Al though we weren't great defensively they just didn't take their chances so like not don't want to be overly critical but the issues we're seeing are they're not just teething issues for moresa these are issues that we've had for like the last 12 18 months and they don't look like changing yeah we shot ourselves in the foot we I mean this is Chala yeah we keep say people are going to get so bored of this and the crazy thing is he could still stay I mean we we spoke could still stay he could still stay at this club and I mean the the the whole testing I mean his attitude's been great the club are happy with the way he's responding give him a chance give him a CH I mean b a for me does not have the it's got to be motivation something that the man's been given an 8year contract and he's just laying back I'm earning my money you know I I gave up in him a preseason when we can see that horrendous goal against R mad he didn't even he didn't even try um as for disass he's just not suited to the system you bring chalar in you've got a player who can win has one knows Chelsea fights for the badge I mean we're not asking for anything special here we definitely need another Center back but only if you don't bring in Chala who's already here so I think we're shooting ourselves in the foot in that sense what I don't quite understand like defensively in the Premier League we saw with t you can be as good going forward as you want but if you can't defend set pieces defend Corners defend counterattacks you're going to lose games because teams are going to sit back like your Everton like your Nottingham Forest last season at Stanford Bridge they're going to sit back stop your attacking threat and counter on you and score against you you need to have a solid defense to win games and to get top four in the Premier League Villa last season pal Torres and coner at the back Liverpool last season United obviously not Arsenal Man City Solid defenses in the Prem Mesa needs to get down on that training ground and have a solid defensive structure put into place for the next game or else we will not go anywhere this season we can have non Palmer oshan and kungu J Felix nto mudri but if if the sassy fana Kell bad Shi are going to have these mistakes in them we're going to lose games what's the underlying issue then when it comes to defending is it the the structure or is it the players I think it's both I think it's a mixture like I think we we mentioned earlier the impact van dijk had on Liverpool Ruben Diaz had on city van Deen had on Tottenham celba had on Arsenal is that one rock at the back like we have a rudo we could start S next to him Basher hum's next to him I don't even know Ashen now next to him rudo will be that rock that carries but also look how look how much look how much better kahill looked when he played alongside JT ex K was a good footballer right but playing alongside JT made him look a lot better um we are missing a top class Center back and you talk about all this money we've spent we need a center back I never thought I'd say we need another do you think the solution is buying one though or just well like I've said bring back Chala well we could bring back Chala sure but I still think we're lacking a top top quality Center back I agree we we massively are and we spent all this money on center backs and people keep saying and I've said it in the past you know we've got a great crop of young center backs they're all really good I'm wondering if we I'm starting to think I think we're overrating some of these guys they they could obviously develop into top players but right now what we're looking at I'm not sure if these guys are as good as we think they are because that the evidence on the pitch would suggests they're not as good as what people are saying so for me I'm not we're not going to get it now I don't think we're going to get Center back between now and 11:00 p.m. on Friday night Ben one virtually no chance but there a 22y old it's another chance kid hopeful Prospect there's no surprise right what what do what do top teams have experience a top goalkeeper we don't have one of them and experienced Center back at least one top quality experienced leader at the back we don't have one of those they have a top quality number six I think we have probably got one of those in Lavia and you have a top class Center forward we don't have a top class Center forward we don't have a top class goalkeeper we don't have a top class Center half and we spend all this money and there three glaring issues in the team yeah I mean if you think about it when you build a team when you build a squad you start with the spine right Allison Vicario David Rya I mean when he came in wasn't the best but he was amazing for Arsenal the most you start off with a top goalkeeper they hoped Robert Sanchez would be that I'm not going to write him off just yet but what we've seen so far playing out from the back boo moments right ion should have saved the first goal for me yeah J again it's it's a prospect player right a 22y old from V RO with one season under his belt you get a top Center back your cbas your vaner you get a top CDM a Dr Pino who can hold that backline a Dean rice a rodri u who the to Tottenham don't really have one do they Liverpool have don't really have one you need a top striker top number nine that is a spine then you get your madricks you get your your players that can play around them the board in my opinion so far failed they they can prove me wrong this season but so far they have failed if Osman comes in that's a big big tick but still we're going to have B where we won't defend set pieces we won't defend counter attacks our goalkeeper can't claim crosses we're going to get killed on transition because we don't have a top number six like your amadana so it's it's worrying because the board have this fancy Prospect but we're not seeing it in motion yeah no that's so true I know I sound like the most negative person make a lot good points Fair like the the the idea of what we're doing in theory is amazing but the reality is there's a reason why no one's done what we've done before this aggressively and there's a reason why every single team that is successful and wins has experience and has top quality players and key positions we lack experience and we don't have top quality players in key positions so so how are we going to be successful in the long run because that was the whole idea of the new Clean Slate that the owners wanted to create wasn't it they didn't want a backbone and they didn't want to really try I mean arguably Thiago Silva was the only closest thing you could say to a backbone pretty much when they took over but if you're losing a Thiago Silva right to me and I'm sure to you guys and many fans right if you're losing a Thiago Silva a figure like that an icon of the game I'm sitting there thinking right we need to go and spend big money on a top class Center half who are who's who are the three best center halves in the world right now let's go and try and get let's go and try and get one of them that's what we should have been doing we should have been doing that if you were to get like go around the room if you were to get one Center back obviously it's not going to happen who would be your dream signing in that in that defensive area that you'd sign right now because there's not there's not many right no probably I'll probably take CBA CBA I mean realistic that's a really good show it's not realistic but like if you're saying I could go like you're looking at caliber of Center back that's that's a sort of it's quite a hard Market isn't it it is a hard Market it's an AG one as well if you think about it in terms of like being at your Peak at your Prime now it's kind of like you look back and you could probably pick out so many more than you would now but I think ultimately with us is that we didn't bring in experience when that is the thing that we keep saying is important and has been missing right it's almost you you go and you look and you bring in another wh if and you bring in someone else that's for the future because we locked everyone in for such a long time but we never really every window address the present it's always a buy for the future it's always a buy for um years to come when we're challenging for the title supposedly in five years but again we're here to compete in this present moment we don't want to be ninth again this year do we we don't want to be we want to be pushing for that Champions League spot again and it is really hard when you're kind of trying to figure out who is going to be you know your that starting 11 we we're still not working it out and I don't think we will work it out for another many at least another few games because we've got so much to pick from but then you think think about it all our Defenders are what if Defenders toen arguably if you look at his CV in terms of playing in the Premier League for what four years three four years at fulam but he's got it yeah at fulam but everybody else came in as a as a what if you're taking a chance on them really and it's not like we've had the consistency of them playing alongside each other we had so many different Center back pairings last season so many different and center backs playing in fullback roles and it was all a massive mess and now it kind of still is a mess cuz it's like you're working out the best possible um kind of back line there but it it's so difficult isn't it who who do you play well I I think the the the transfer strategy is is quite obvious they're not they're not going to change obvious what the strategy is what they want is sign as many young players and hope that they're all going to be gems like Co Palmer I think that really you need to let the season play out and then we can make our decision from there but yeah obviously there's a lot of concerns defensively um and I think that this the way to combat that is really to focus on what you're good at I mean I remember when Liverpool before they signed uh van dijk they had matip who was very weak um and and they conceded goals for fun at the end of the game they did but that was why that that was why that Liverpool team under Brendan Rogers right the one that almost won the title but they they they bottled it they bottled it because of their how bad their defense was they conceded over 50 goalss That season that's why they lost the title that's what I mean you can be as good as you like going you can't win a league you cannot win stuff if you if you are letting in the volume of goals that we're letting in they still got top forward you're absolutely right and this is the thing so right now we know we're not competing for a league but we are trying to get Champions League football I think that even with a striker if we don't reinforce a defense we can get top four or Champions League football and I think the way you do that is by basically trying to do what you did against wolves go gung-ho I mean listen if you can't defend I'm not saying don't try TR and defend but focus on scoring more right so if we can do that and if we can utilize that against the smaller teams they're going to struggle to keep up right they will score goals we will concede goals and especially when we play against top teams that's when we're really going to struggle but as long as you can get results in your home games the away games you might struggle a little bit that will be enough um but we're still lacking up top for me um in terms of getting Champions League football I don't see us finishing in the top four without got enough goals in the team to to finish in the top four well today we didn't we didn't share that did we Jackson missed a big chance kungu missed a big header Palmer obviously let not talk about on his name but he still miss but but that's that's the thing though isn't it like we've got the quality and we've got goals in the team it's just you don't know if they're going to turn up with their shooting boots on or not yeah we can't risk that again can we like last season Jackson one of my favorite players of the club but can you rely on him in a one-on-one against City in the FA Cup semi-final away to United when he took that extra touch at home to Nottingham Forest you need that number nine and no I agree we would have been in an FA Cup Final last year had we had a clinical number nine we could got top four we Five Points off and Jackson Miss some big chances that could have I love him like if you're watching I love you but unfortunately um you did miss some big chances maybe sorry all right then guys before we wrap up obviously ultimately couldn't make it three wins in a row I think it would have been nice to get into a bit of a winning streak here but the big successful thing is that we are through to the conference League you but before we smile Bey we're happy we're happy about that let's look ahead quickly to the weekend cuz we host Crystal Palace at home back to League back to Premier League action potentially yeah Neto didn't do enough today man in my opinion he scored the goal but he was he was a ghost he he hasn't like he had a really good preseason but he's not he's not had much of an impact
