[Music] welcome to Las Vegas Nevada Alle legance Stadium home of the Oakland Raiders but today home to the start of another exciting college football season as we are ready to crank it up here in Vegas in the Las Vegas kickoff Classic this is the type of early season game you look forward to an opportunity to make a statement in a top 10 Showdown as we'll see the number one team in the country the Maryland terit taking on the 10th ranked team in the land the LSU Tigers glad to have you with us for EA Sports college football I'm Rees Davis David Pock and Jesse Palmer with me in the booth guys we are ready to tee it [Music] [Applause] up the Terin about to kick it away and get this season started [Applause] from inside the 15 chance for a good return by just enough space to cross the 25 let's mark it at the 27 yd line the LSU Tigers offense takes the field and all eyes on this man as he takes the knows they're going to try to throw the football and it probably won't matter guys oh but the defense reefs will be locked in he will see double coverage they will know where he's at on every single snap Jesse or else you will get beat quick fast and in a hurry he's one of the few receivers in the country guys what if it's man coverage is open Zone coverage is open if he's double coverage he's open throw that guy the ball it's first and 10 from the 38 yd [Applause] line the option look he'll toss it and they just didn't get anybody on that defense out of position and they will lose yardage on that one last play was a near disaster now dealing with second and 13 wants to throw it's Collins finds his Target down the middle they stop him almost immediately short gain there and still a little ground to cover to pick up the first man it's so important when you play QB I got to know when to put some air on it and I got to know when to rocket that thing in there work in the middle of the field he knew he needed the rocket threw it in there great job great catch LSU will bring the punt team on the [Applause] field looking for a block it's Smith so the Maryland Terin offense will take the field for the first time one thing to keep in eye on in this game when they get a back isolated on a linebacker who wins that matchup quarterback likes the matchup but this linebacker he's different man not only is he a hitter he's got the athleticism to cover people too normally you say that's a win for the running back running back on a linebacker I win but this guy is different interested to watch this match up got six on first down now a lot of options on second and four throws to the wide out and the incomplete pass had a lot of juice on it well on that last play you'd like to see the quarterback be a little bit more accurate and give his guy a chance to make the play that ball wasn't even close to his intended Target's body couldn't find his man last time now they'll have to convert third and four from the gun wants to pass fires left it's complete he's right out of bounds but a big play on that one and it'll be a first down and the Terin come to the line with a new set of downs give to the running back running with power they wrestle him to the ground but he's got plenty for a first down and this guy is El leite there's a reason why he starts in this offense you just saw the speed and the open field running ability on that last play and this is a guy that is going to be key to the entire season for this offense they're going to go right back to him on first down defense there to make the stop after a pick up of two to the 30 SEC versus the Big 10 they compet at everything they tried to out spend each other and they certainly want to beat each other on the field so many national championships so many Heisman Trophy winners shared between these two conferences David everybody gets excited when the Big 10 takes on the SEC and these games matter so much the fans get so amped up so Juiced up to the point where we hear in the stands what secc they wouldn't say that if confence Pride wasn't a real thing nice job by the defense they're mixing up their look they're third and long in field goal range they go Zone coverage so everybody on the back end has the eye on the quarterback and they're able to break on the ball Force the incompletion the field goal is no good kicker couldn't quite get it through and the scoreboard Remains the Same the bay Bengals will run the offense out onto the field they hope to be able to cash in on this drive David after having to punt it last time yeah and I think this offense needs to start it with the F and he breaks into the open running inside the 20 and he'll take it to the house he got loose touchdown by you Bengals and that is the first passing touchdown first of many of the season for this offense nice drive by the offense way to finish it take care of the football Mak some plays in the passing game this offense looks like they're going to be a really hard one to they'll try to add another to their lead and with the extra point they get the first seven of the game and for a quick update let's go to Kevin Conor's in the studio all right guys want to update you on a game that went final moments ago Virginia Tech was far from the friendly confines of Lane Stadium but still managed to scratch out a win and there was a lot of chatter this week about this group not being ready time to check those receipts if you know what I mean the circle of life in college football where one team moves on feeling like kings and the other heads home picking it wounds how about that sounds as if they had a good ball game there Kevin thanks for the update offense has it at the 28 on first down he wants to throw going to take a shot oh and it's a pick he threw it right into the double coverage and they'll close in on him after a good return on the interception QB never saw the defender he's staring his receiver down telegraphing his throw and the DB jumped all over that he's looking to throw it going to let it fly hits him in stride at the T and he got away from the defense and takes it in [Applause] touchdown yeah and now this offense building that lead the first half but I tell you what shown some glimpses of why they can become a really really good offense listen you go into halftime more of the same right continue to do what you're doing take care of the football this offense has looked really good in the first half almost ready to kick it away after scoring the touchdown and he hauls it in and everybody's on the edge of their seats and the returner could find no daylight he goes down Maryland has the ball back in the Terin off ready to go to say this has been a slow start is a bit of an understatement and they really need to get it going here Jesse that's right the opponent they're firing an all cylinders right out of the gate offensively for this unit they've been slow and struggling they need an explosive play to wake themselves up yeah and it's just the first quarter so it's not the end of the world you've seen slow starts but you got to continue to pick and pick and pick until you find that play or or that scheme that you can use against this defense that is exactly what you're looking for when you talk explosive plays the defense finally able to make the stop the give to the tail back and I think they'll give him two on that one second and eight coming up I'll tell you this is a running back who's very very dangerous and the defense did a good job getting him down there but they got to do a great job gang tackling because this is a guy that can break tackles and turn those types of plays into home runs send it down field and they can't hook up going for the big play on second down now it's third down if they can convert here that type of play can really give you a shot of momentum on Third and long he has to throw for it and the incomplete pass will bring up fourth down the Terin will line up to pun it away well the quarterback and his intended target just simply didn't have the timing there the ball Falls incomplete on third Now setting up fourth down and the punt hits at the eight and goes into the end zone for the Touchback LSU will dive into the Playbook here on offense Jesse a very productive Drive last time wound up with a touchdown yeah mixing and matching play calling really well nice balance on that last one day we'll see what they can do here in this next Drive yeah and I don't expect anything different when you put together a drive like that I would do more of the same keep the pace keep it going they'll snap this one from the 32 two it's first down give to the back nice move there pretty good effort on that one to work his way up to the 42 after the nyd pickup on first down here's second and one touch pass on the Run knock down after a short game but enough to move those that's a really nice run one thing I love about him is he's got versatility reminds me of a guy I used to play against back in the day Kevin F he could catch the ball he could run the ball he could block he returned kicks he did everything for the LSU Tigers and this guy he's got that ability too so many different Tools in his toolbx hey it's really frustrating when you get a guy in his spot he's in the hole he's there to do his job and he can't get the guy on the ground that's your job get him on the ground you know especially a guy that's a huge back you got to make that tackle you can't make it easy on the offense for now they got a a manageable situation this is an offense that really sees their identity as being able to run the football nice job there picking up the first down he's got it on the right and the defense holds firm no pick up at all on that play line getting set on second down linebackers trying to create some confusion looking to throw it's Collins finds a s spot in the middle really good pick up on second down there leaves him with third and two trying to pick up a first down secondary walks up on the line showing press coverage they'll run for it on Third and short he's got enough for the first down they'll spot him at the 24 yd line this defense really is on their heels they've been on the field now for a long time on this drive and they're just getting pushed around at the point of attack up front like we saw in that last he get him down Tough Run picks up for them mark it at the 19 solid pick up of four on first down it's second and six he'll keep it himself oh it's out defense falls on the ball going to be a turnover first game of the year you're always worried about turnovers right and this guy has the Ultimate Nightmare on his first touch of the Year puts the ball on the ground he's got to be able to flush that out now you got to get ready to go play the next play Here Comes the Maryland offense back onto the field they just didn't quite find the Rhythm on that last Drive Jesse they had to punt it I think they got to be more physical David I think up front they got to do a better job thanks Israel if you're the more physical team if you can threat in the run and then then run play action it opens up the whole offense at your disposal big play to to start this drive now they'll snap it from the 39 off the play fake on first down to throw pocket starts to collapse and the pass is incomplete and that's how the first quarter comes to a close both teams wanted to establish the run and they have done exactly that in the first [Music] quarter just about ready to get things started here in the second we'll see if they continue to flex that muscle second down coming up dropping back it's Morris they'll run the screen thrust that arm out and the defense able to drag him down but not before they'll recycle that down marker that was just a perfectly choreographed screen the line got out on time the running back had a wall in front of it and I think the quarterback did a really good job of selling pass and then kind of dodging the pass rush getting it to the running back and then let him do the rest you got him in space he'll pick up yards in a hurry man the defense is making it tough on this quarterback early they already have an interception they almost came away with another one there they're doing a great job reading his eyes and breaking on the ball fires to the right a spectacular one hand grab well he's learned a lot in this sophomore season using that one Mt to haul that one in not the most productive half for this offense so far but finally starting to get it in gear first and 10 I know it's sexy to throw the football but if you can pound it away and get these kind of gains they will just add up wear the defense down get first downs and ultimately get some points he's looking for a man on second down unloads to the wide out it's complete perfectly thrown ball nice catch good tackle but it's first and goal from the five new seter Downs right on the doorstep for this offense turning to the running game on first and goal he pushes his way down to the floor as they get closer and closer the Big Fellas line up in a goal line defense to the ground ground with the back and he'll take this into the end zone but hang on just a second flag down let's see what this is [Music] about they say you could call holding on every play well they did on that [Applause] one now the offense tries to punch it in on second and goal looking downfield it's Morris [Applause] working that left side now they'll get it down to the eight yd line on that throw and catch and the defense is backed up against the wall they've gotten pushed back but is still third and goal from the gun wants to [Applause] pass and the misconnection on third down and the offense got themselves in a tough situation third and long so hard to execute especially when the field starts the shrink but the good news is they got a field goal in their backb field goal is [Music] good so so after putting three on the board the kickoff team is out there ready to boot it away on the move from inside is five not a lot of space to be found good Hustle by the coverage team and they stop him at the 21 the Bayou Bengals will run the offense out onto the field that fumble in fruss territory just ruined that last Drive David yeah and those are frustrating when you got the offense mov a little bit and you put that thing running toward the tape and finally out of bounds after an explosive run by this ball carrier he's up to 86 yds rushing in this first half and he is making quite the impression in the open used the play fake now to throw grabbed in the back field it's Duram and there is nothing doing on that one you got the completion and nothing else to show for it this offense has a second down play from the gun he leaves it with the back he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple it's hard to run on a defense that comes off the ball like that and runs to the football like that good luck no holes anyway on Third and long they check down would be the last resort you've got the screen set up defense was not fooled by that screen to the back and they'll stop him short of the marker it'll be fourth down it's wise not to be too greedy and they'll go ahead and send out the field goal unit it is perfect and that will extend their lead even further and let's check in with Kevin Conor in the studio Kevin phis heavyweights trading punches today in a top five battle and now it's a final Ohio State looked dominant in a victory that was never really in question that offense had zero problem putting up points not unlike the days of St and Fields and so many raged before always interesting to see top five teams Collide and today was no different the AG he wants to go deep and that one Falls incomplete they tried to go over the top on first down second down coming up couldn't make the connection last time let's see if they'd throw it again looking to pass it's Morris fires to the right holds it in and they'll finally bring him down after he rips off a huge play when we throwing these comeback routes man the timing has got to be so good between the two of them because you know the ball is going to be in the air a long time you can't throw it late it's going to get picked that time really nice job getting it out early and the receiver doing a nice job on his route so that the ball was right on him as soon as he turned around and the running back didn't get much there defense you can tell they're focused in on this running back on this run game being physical getting knockbacks and limiting his carries after the three- yd pickup they come to the line Second and seven fires to the wide out tremendous awareness along the sideline and the ability to get the foot down for the mid pick up it's so hard to get to quarterbacks when they get the ball out of their hands this fast great job understanding what the defense is doing right away assessing hitting the corner route right off the Jump productive four yd gain there on the ground as he gets it down to the 31 it's just so nice to know you can start off on first down with positive plays positive yards hand the football off set up a good second down trying play action unloads to the right right on the money to the outside he dragged the toe and how about the ball placement only the receiver could get throwing the comeback looks like such a simple throw but the timing is so important and as a quarterback man this is all about trusting your guy you know exactly where he's going to sit it down you anticipate it you throw it you know he's going to come back and make that play for going to work on second down in the red zone is still some ground to cover to pick up that first down he's looking to throw and he got smacked just as he released the pass it's incomplete it's hard throwing in the pocket man you got bodies and 300lb dudes falling all over the place they're trying to hit you that time the pressure got to him and it forced the incompletion caught over the middle it's Howard and they gave him no chance to get loose and they force a fourth down they're happy enough to try to take the points as the field goal unit heads out right down the boulevard it's good [Music] [Music] after putting up a three- spot the kickoff unit set to go he'll start the return inside his spot nice job by the kickoff team everybody stayed in their lanes and they'll stop him at the 16 LSU will dive into the Playbook here on offense they've got the lead here last time they settled for a field goal but David got to find that back bance between being aggressive and careful and I think they'll take that I got the lead Palmer I got the football I got to take care of the football put a nice drive together and just get some kind of points on this drive no doubt lots to be happy about right now if you're this team I think for this one though on this drive it's about finding the one-on-one matchups that are in your favor and then exploiting them good timing on the quick out that defense got gas but they finally get him to the turf at the 47 showing you his skills on that last throw this guy's got arm talent and accuracy man and some of it it's not coachable I think back to JaMarcus Russell and Joe burrow two former tiger quarterbacks that were the first overall pick in the NFL draft they had some of that too they just had a feel for the position that you simply couldn't coach at the college level this guy man he's got some serious tools and he really helps make this offense dangerous oh he had him right down the middle and it just squirted right through his fingers and they missed an opportunity for a nice play on first down back to throw it's Collins how about that play to get a hand in there and force the incompletion well I know that one fell incomplete but what a day this guy has had throwing the football multiple touchdowns and he's done a really nice job with his decision making hasn't thrown any picks which has really helped keep this off on schedu it's so nice when you know it's third and long you know a pass is coming you worked on it all week you get your feet set at the sticks understand that quarterback's got to be rushed get him off of his spot nice execution by this defense it's good easy call for the refs and that lead grows even bigger so after the last Drive ended with a field goal to kickoff team out there to send it away well that kid just showed off his hammer for a leg 50 plus and he did it with ease and good work by the coverage team to get the Return Man Down On The Ground mirland has the ball back in the Terin offense ready to go not a lot of time left here in the half let's see if they can cut into this lead and this drive isn't a must score but man you look at the scoreboard you're down two scores Jesse you got a good opportunity create some momentum cut it to a onore game this is an important possession yeah it's important to create that momentum now David to and not wait to get it going here at the start of the third quarter you've got one drive here to get a couple of points you've got to start erasing and chipping away at this deficit this could be where the oh and it's picked off threw it right into the teeth of double coverage and they'll drag him down after a good return on the interception this is obviously not a great start for this quarterback here two interceptions already in this game he's got to do a much better job with his decision wants to throw on first down and it's picked off at the goal line that's a way to make a stand and he's wrapped up after a solid return on the pick timing has to be so good you're throwing into his own defense over the middle of the field the ball's got to come out specifically on time because these windows close really quickly ball there thrown a little bit late as a result it's an INT here comes the Maryland offense back onto the field getting late here in the first half they'll have a chance to make this a one possession game and the offensive play caller here has to really be and he throws another interception his third of the night and they'll close in on him after a good return on the interception well that's the second pick in as many series now for this quarterback but David I I love the defense right now and the way they're reading and reacting to all these route Concepts I mean they are all over these guys on the back end all over the field making plays listen you're supposed to see the quarterback break on the football you've seen several breaks on the football your job is to know what the offense does really really well and you can tell this defense is dialed in and they know exactly what this offense wants to accomplish and he dropped it it looked for all the world like that would be a catch and he just got too excited this defense was put in a difficult spot but they've made it tough and now the offense faces third and goal that's a five pulls it in in the end zone touchdown LSU the great thing about spreading a defense out I can see where the blitz is coming from I can see where they're weak I can see my matchups nice job by the offense spreading them out taking advantage of their matchup and getting in for the score [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] e on to attempt the try exra and the extra point will tack another one onto this lead quick strike offense on that three-play scoring drive and they cap things off with a 9yd touchdown pass from a couple of yards deep he'll bring it out rolling the dice to bring it out of the end zone did not work out as he stopped at the 13 maryn has the ball back and the Terin offense ready to go this late in the half you're behind you'd love to create something before the break to build momentum Jesse you've also had some miscues on offense a big part of why you're losing the game right now i' take it into halftime make my adjustments come out ready in the second half yeah I'm going to take it in halftime too palmer but I'm trying to put some points up right here be aggressive set the tone be going deep and it's incomplete after taking a shot on second down they're staring at third well this juncture in the game with how the scoreboard looks no question this offense is going to have to throw to get back in the game and it's going to be tricky now because the defense is expecting it you're going to throw into a lot of big Zone coverages with everybody's eyes on the quarterback not going to be easy there's a timeout called as this offense tries to find a way to draw a little closer you got to feel good for this kid too he worked so hard this past off season to put himself in position to be the starting running back and he's got a lot of skill guys he's got speed open field running ability I think he's going to be a big part of the offense this season throws to the wide out just a bit of a misfire there as they can't make the connection yeah and I I don't know what happened he didn't look open as it is and the QB's trying to make a play trying to force the ball but at least he threw it where his guy could catch it or nobody could catch it that pass is incomplete and they're probably fortunate that it wasn't knock free for a fumble you know it's a good decision by the QB because his intended target wasn't open so throw it out of bounds and you can live to play another day here on this drive on the ground it's heni at the 35 he's open we got a timeout here late in the first half and they'll try to get more points on the board before the break and that has got to be so demoralizing for this defense they played so well on first and second down and then have a total breakdown on third they're going to have to do so much better the next time they putting that situation finally run out of bounds but he has his offense throwing with a first down the coach wants the officials to have another look at the monitor using a timeout here thinks the call is going to end up going his way [Applause] he spun that Wheel of Fortune by challenging the call and it does not go his way and he loses the timeout and the Terence will snap it on First and 10 looking for a man it's Morris he lets it fly grabs it inside the T the offense waste no time getting the timeout call and now a chance not only to cut into the lead but play it just right and maybe the other team doesn't even get a chance to answer it's complete to the ref he's all the way down to the two yd line just spectacular execution there he wants to pass it on second down he makes it catch in the inso Dodge down Maryland what a great way to end the first half it wasn't a perfect first half a lot of mistakes still trailing by a lot but here's the deal now you put yourself in a position go make some things happen Force some turnovers play good in the second half who knows what will happen and they Ted we played two quarters here time to go to Kevin Connors in our halftime update all right guys a delightful first two quarters of football there today in Vegas each of these two offenses has looked like well oiled machines but it doesn't take a genius to figure out these two passing attacks have run circles around these defenses man or Zone nothing seems to be working and I'm not sure that defensive coordinator is going to be able to figure things out here at halftime and with that let's send it back to the fellas inside Allegiance Stadium [Music] LSU will put foot to Lea to start the second half on the run from inside his own five he was hoping for something a little more Dynamic but they get him on the ground at the 20 here comes the Maryland offense back onto the field now we'll get a chance to see if they can answer that last score trailing by 14 Jesse Yeah and at this point of the game I feel like offensively you should go back to what's been working for you in this game don't be afraid to dial up plays that you've already had success with running it and throwing it it's okay to repeat plays down 14 at this point and I would also say Palmer kind of understanding that my defense is not playing great so I know offensively I got to put some good possessions together here make something happen on this side of the football and this offense is desperate to keep this drive alive trailing by multiple possessions and it's getting late on third down going up top grabbed over the middle it's Cooper really confident throw and catch there big pick up and they have a first down here's this offense with a fresh set of downs off play action on first down can't find his man as he took a shot trying to deliver that football and it'll be second down couldn't make the connection last time let's see if they throw it again they'll go to the ground smashes [Music] through now facing a third and long looking for a man it's Morris shoots it to the left oh they really could have used that catch there physical pass defense it brings up a fourth down the Terin line up to punt it away this will be the second time they've had to kick it away and the coverage team able to make the tackle Val Bengals will run the offense out onto the field boy David they would love to stack another touchdown on top of that last drive and this offense did such a good job on the last Drive everything in Rhythm mov the ball fall down the field didn't make those mistakes Jesse and they need to do it again on this one yeah you're right they had the defense on their heels you wonder what sort of communication was going on that sideline what sort of changes were they able to make cuz they got to stop the bleeding right now he's now up to 95 yards on the day and the defense has been getting a steady di of this dude on opening day they'll give it to the back just sort of a Relentless run getting everything that was available to him and they'll Mark him down at the 40 6yd pickup on first down leaves him with second and four he's looking to throw fires to the big fella oh it's loose he picks it up still on his feet man those are back Breakers defensively you get so excited you force the fum I'm going to get a turnover and the offense Falls and the tigers are moving quickly down the field quick release by the QB and a good job in coverage there as they stop it after just a few how will Coach send you'll never go broke taking a problem take what's there take the positive yards and never complain he's looking for an open man on second down and it falls incomplete but that could have been disastrous a Defender was right there couldn't find his man last time and that leaves him with a third and six they're going to throw it again they're setting up the screen and they stop him just short of the stick it'll bring up a decision on fourth down looks as if LSU will line up to punt it away let's see if he can help the coverage team out with this one and that punt will Sail Out of Bounds let's see where the official spot Maryland has the ball back and the Terin offense ready to go that last Drive fizzled out out Jesse they had to punt it yeah they did and David they're just going to have to do a better job this time around erasing the mental mistakes and just trying to solve the defensive riddle understanding what they're trying to do use and attack them they came out humming on this drive and now it's first down from the 36 able to SC three yards out of that one somehow it's second and seven and it's just simple simple first down run showing your physicality setting your offense up in a good spot scanning the field it's Morris oh he's going to try to hit him over the top and it's incomplete going for the massive explosive play instead they're looking at a third down really nice play by the defender being in a good position for that deep ball down the field not letting the receiver put his big body on him go up over top the only thing that could have been better is that thing tipped to another Defender and it was an interception but great coverage by the defender they'll get the first down it's spoted the 49 and the Terin come to the line with a fresh set of downs well look that wasn't a touchdown but that was a massive play for this offense they needed some momentum they needed to find a rhythm in what better way than converting on third down awesome job by the quarterback confession now the play fake unloads to the wide out he's got it and he's brought down after a nice game well offensively they knew they were going to have some matchups they could take advantage of in this one and all of a sudden this quarterback has now over 300 yards passing in the game defensively David he has got them on their heels and he's been showing you a little bit of everything he can throw TCH down car a Lazarus like comeback is underway quarterback's abilities to read the field is huge and also the anticipation of timeing to be able to throw the football Jesse and hit a guy in stride so he can get run after the catch and get in the end zone that was a nice job by the quarterback yeah it's critical dve and listen a lot of times touchdown passes aren't thrown into the end zone you got to read the coverage hit the open guy and let him do the [Applause] rest he'll try to tack on one more and it's up and good as they draw Just a Touch closer we check in with Kevin Connors what's going on Kevin fellas I think at least a portion of your audience will have an interest in the one that just finished up colado is going to enjoy the trip back to Boulder after a rock solid performance and you take care of business on the road and you stack wins there at fome field and suddenly it's quite the resume it's one game you don't want to react too much either way but I think both teams will leave this one with some things to work on moving forward Kevin thanks a lot for that one sounds as if they had a good one there through his hands and incomplete he normally makes that catch every time it's second down takes a hand off it's Duram picks up a useful 5yd chunk after the 30 yd line it's the emo of this offense and they really put a lot on the offensive line to go out and really try and establish their dominance and their assertiveness he puts a lot of air under it down the sideline and this is dropped oh my goodness it was just too easy and he didn't look it in LSU will bring the punt team on the field fair catch called for and made here comes the Maryland offense back onto the field at last Drive really productive David wound up with a touchdown they'll try to do it again yeah so I don't expect this offense to changed too much Reese they had a great Drive they got the touchdown everything working I would expect them to keep pushing this ball downhill and just imagine if they could put another touchdown on the board right here they could capture so much momentum in this game with backto back TDS they'll ride the running back and leave it with him and works it to the 40 yd line that'll be a first down man that was a good run but it was almost even better great job by the offense keep the running game going you get big chunks like this Not only was that a big chunk it also looked like it could have gone for more good pick up there as he gets the first down and they'll Mark him at the 48 here's his offense with a fresh set of downs movement here from the tied end wants to throw on first down off the play fake got his man good solid pick up there now they can start to smell it with a first down down at the 31 a new set of downs after the completion to the air it's Morris Let's It Fly it's caught Dodge down Maryland reeled it in and just made the house anyways but he's been on fire he's been absolutely torching this defense they've had absolutely no answers for [Music] [Applause] it getting set for the point after and the extra point was made without incident and we're tied up here in the third they put together a five play 75 yd drive and they top it off with a 31 yd toss for six after that latest answer tied things up just about set to kick it away again looking for an alley from inside his own 10 he was hoping for something a little more Dynamic but they get him on the ground at the 20 LSU will dive into the Playbook here on offense boy three and out last time David they'd like to be more productive this time around yeah in the last Drive nothing really clicked no rhythm got off the field really really quickly they need to put something together here yeah David bad execution on that last drive so they got to take a collective breath start playing like a unic on this looking to throw on second down fires to the wide out and he intercepts it DOD down Terin how about that D coming up with a play like back the DB saw he thought don't drop it don't drop it then thought don't get caught don't get caught and he didn't the pick six hey these guys can play offense too now look at this I showed you I can be a wide receiver coach might split him out at wide receiver next week after making that big play but defense great job making the interception and you're right doing something with it don't just slide down don't be content take that thing all the way back [Applause] brother lining up to tack one more onto that lead and the extra point is true and they're on top by seven they'll kick it off and send defense right back out there to try to score again after the pick six here he comes from inside his own five not a lot of space to be found good Hustle by the coverage team and they stop him at the 21 the Bayou Bengals will run the offense out onto the field well the good news is they threw a touchdown pass last time it was just to the wrong team Jesse well that's an unfortunate part of the game for quarterbacks but guess what they do happen so you got to be be able to turn the page here and Lead this offense well I think you know this defense is going to be aggressive they're going to jump routes they're going to play aggressive you got to take advantage of that maybe use that this time to your advantage going for the big play he's got it downfield for a huge game and he was on his way gets it all the way to the 38 well LSU receivers are known for their Swagger and that is Swagger well earned after that one well you go outside and you make plays like listen you have swag you have confidence you usually get a little bit Lou re and like listen feed me the rock so many great LSU receivers in the past and it's because of that swag back at it to open the quarter with this first down play [Applause] on the move it's Dura and a good solid pick up there before the defense knocks him down coaches always harp about staying ahead of the chains and when you can run with that type of efficiency on first down man you are doing just that got eight on first down now looking at a second and two looking to throw it's Collins and the pass is incomplete Jarred Loose by the hit hey man if you're going to force incompletions when the QB's thrown to the tight end you better be physical nice job with a hit forcing that incompletion he'll ride his man on the option offenses gain momentum with third down conversions like that they've got it at the 25 most important part of a clutch Drive piece together some first downs get in position and here they are on First and 10 makes the grab over the middle they get a nice pick up on this Crossing route against the zone and everybody executed in unison Jesse Yeah re this offense they've got a plan in the passing game they've got some stuff ready for man coverage and they've got some Zone beaters as well just saw one there on the crossing and he was able to run through a tackle and they finally get him but not until he picks up the first down finally some signs of life from this offense which has done nothing in the second half it's first and 10 wide out motion from the gun running back gets to get and he is just engulfed at the line by this giant defensive tackle operating in the Red Zone here on second down he's looking to throw to the end zone and it's picked off and they'll drag him down after a good return on the interception and the senior just snatched the ball out of the air and gave it back back to his offense and this guy's just never been able to get into a rhythm all game long whether it's been because of pressure or the defense disguising their coverages he just doesn't seem right as a result he's now thrown three picks in this game looking for a gap it's heni just what the doctor order to get away from the shadow of that goal post and pick up a first down at the 23 here's this offense with a fresh set of downs they'll ride the hot hand into a mass of giant bodies we'll call it a one yd gain to the 24 didn't get much on first down and second and nine to the air it's Morris throws to the wide out complete downfield and the big gain and they've got it on the 46 what a beautiful throw and catch on this play and I love the job the receiver did tracking the ball in the air nice job of locating the throw and then hauling it in out of the gun they give to the back he is going nowhere stop at the line of scrimmage how about the defender being a heat seeking missile he was on radar lock he found the football he unleashes a long one pulls it in inside the 10 and he'll be run out of bounds and these guys are piling up some serious yardage totals and that big Gainer on the last one has them threatening from inside the 10 they'll dial up the run on first and goal gets it inside the 10 picks up a yard they'll mark it at the nine defense rolls up deep in its own end on that last play now a second and long coming the run up the middle looking for the score pushes ahead for two to the seven yd line it's looking like they're going to have to try to throw this one into the end zone here on third down David quarterback's got to be careful can't get greedy cuz you know these windows they close fast extremely tight Windows find your big body guys that you know can win in contested situations here on third down so here we are on fourth down and this field goal kicker is going to face all the pressure in the world smashes it between the uprights and they'll push that lead out a little further let's go to the studio now and check in with Kevin Conor Kevin what do you got two very different emotions inside the locker rooms of these teams who battle okahoma what up everybody what up what up it's your boy 27 take got my partner with me officer Isel sorry I was so quiet but uh let's go man let's go let's go let's go oh they probably can't even hear me can you hear me [Applause] Israel far beyond just the standings fellas and Kevin Conor is keeping an eye on everything all over the country sounds like they had a good one there and the returner goes down LSU will dive into the Playbook here on offense boy they had that last Drive moving a little bit David but then the mistake just crushed yeah and those mistakes are going to happen you're going to throw the football you're going to throw interceptions but I think I stay aggressive with this offense I get back to what I did in the first part of that drive what made me successful I agree David just turn the page if you're a quarterback right on this drive you did a lot of good things there leading up to that pick forget about it move on play the next play we'll see if they go back to the air after the incompletion it's third and five to the air it's Collins just had to get rid of that one to save the yardage on third down not all incompletions are the same and listen it's third down I want to make a play I want to throw the football down the field get a first down but sometimes it's the right decision to do what he just did don't make a big turnover don't make a big mistake AK just throw the football in the ground it's incomplete a fourth down stop and the turnover on down yeah and unfortunately in the fourth quarter losing you got to put the foot on the acceler you got to make something happen so I get they had to be aggressive and go for it they just can't seem to get this offense to make plays when they need it the most excellent coverage and good use of the hands to knock it away what a great job defending the comeback there by the defender right he was able to squat transition break on the ball and knock it down could not have played that better that run epitomizes a veteran Savvy senior who knows how to find Space just inside the Red Zone first and 10 from the 19 might as well run him until they stop him he's got it again DOD down Maryland and they add six more to the board with that trip to the house the offense strikes again to extend it lead here in the second half and they got everything working how great is this you extend your lead now you get your defense back on the field great job taking advantage of the situation and building on that [Music] lead they'll try to add another to their lead and that extra point is a big one as they now have a thre possession 17-point lead in the fourth about to kick it off after punching it in for the touchdown here's the return from inside is 10 nice job executing all of the assignments as they put a stop to that return at the 22 the Bayou Bengals will run the offense out onto the field what a turn that last Drive was didn't pick up the fourth down and it led to the scoring Drive David and those are frustrating cuz you think you might get points and then your defense gives up points this has got to be a complimentary football type deal the offense now needs to provide a little spark and give this defense some hope no doubt David they got to turn the page and they've got to play with a little bit and the quarterback caught up two and sacked at the 12 LSU right back to the line defense impressed coverage on Third and long hoping to throw be on the sticks and that's incomplete a Defender all over him knocked the ball to the ground fourth down coming up looks as if LSU will line up to putt it away three and out and not much choice but to get rid of the ball bringing it back it's Smith and make the Stop and that is exactly what you want out of your punt cover unit Maryland has the ball back in the Terin offense ready to go line gets set first down they'll run the ball the clock is on their side one step WRA Two Step squeeze this junior knows how to get him on the ground didn't get much on first down it's second and nine out of the gun the running back has it showing it off the arms he's brought down but not before they up the big first down no mystery on that play with the lead we are going to run the ball you know it's coming and we are running right at you right into the teeth of the defense and they're still able to get a nice game he had to fight for a couple down to the 33 and the defense doing a great job committing to the run when you commit to the run like this obviously you can give up some plays in the passing game but you got to stop the run first we reached the two-minute warning in this offense will be quite content just to drain the rest of the time away and now on second down for this offense using his legs it's heni and the defense makes the stop after a minimal gain how bold will they be on third down after that last run running back searching for a hole and he was fortunate not to lose yardage on that play able to wedge it back to the line of scrimmage the Terin will bring the punt team onto the field you'd think they would have had a good chance to down that one deep but the bounce carries it into the end zone for the Touchback LSU will dive into the Playbook here on offense it has been a rather forgettable day that's finally coming to a close David yeah it's been an awful day I mean just not not functioning well on offense defense given up a lot of points this is a day Palmer they'll like to forget yeah you're going to find out a lot about their character right now obviously not what they H this would be and that's demoralizing for a lot of these kids that have worked really hard and practice all week but at this point here you're just trying to prove to your coaching staff that you're not going to qu oh he drops it right down the middle of the field and he couldn't make the play so they're facing third and short from the 25 to throw it's Collins throwing right he makes a catch the offense gets a quick timeout at this point every second is precious LSU getting set on First and 10 I mean this offense basically lined up and said I I don't care if you double team him triple team him it really doesn't matter we're still going to feature and guess what happens they still get the first even though he was double it's a nice adjustment by the defense here with a big lead in the game you're putting extra DBS on the field knowing the offense has to throw to get back in this one the fourth quarter so your best cover and there was nowhere to go for this quarterback and down he goes offense calls a timeout here critically important to make sure they have the right play called and everyone on the same page here they're bringing Heat and the pressure gets to him again another sack down by multiple possessions they can't come up empty on this drive in the fourth quarter they'll go for it on fourth down he wants a big play here late for the fourth time tonight it's an didn't really get a chance to get started on that return but he has set him up at the 41 yd Line running out the clock a mere formality between them and a victory as we have Victory formation coming and this one is just about in the books the defense can stop the clock one more time as the offense takes a knee they get a big win here and start the season on a positive note you got to love that as the players you come out you have so much anticipation coming into this season finally getting ready to play in front of a live audience you're able to come out and execute and get this win under your belt David couldn't be a better way to start the year and for the losing team obviously it's a little bit different you have something to look at now to analyze where do I need to get a little bit better but plenty of time
