welcome to Philadelphia Pennsylvania Lincoln Financial Field and it is indeed home to the 2018 Super Bowl champion Eagles the link also is home to the Temple hours and boy do we have a fun one ahead top 10 team Target on back going on their Road and right into the snake pin as we'll see the number six team in the country the Florida Atlantic owls taking on a squad hoping to prevent another L this week the temple ows for EA Sports college football I'm Reese Davis David Po and Jesse Palmer with me guys it's time to get it going Tempo about to kick it off and get this game [Applause] underway not going to risk a return here he'll make the fair catch so Florida Atlantics offense takes the field for the first time today and here's the man they rally around and he has earned that type of respect David you dang right you earn it by doing it and he's done it at such a high level everyone believes in this young man in Palmer there's a reason why you're right David he's been in the big moments and he's won the big games this guy delivers when the game is on the line at the 35 he's got room and he's running in the open who gives a hoot the owls do it's a touchdown and once he found daylight it was Katie Bar the Door baby and these offensive coordinators tell you they want to start fast and they want to establish the Run game that is exactly what you did first drive you hand the football off making the big explosive run setting the tone for this football game and he's got the extra point and it's seven Drive will boost your confidence One play hit the big pass put a touchdown on the board just about set to kick it away and it'll be a Touchback the ball will come out to the 25 yd line so Temple offense will take the field for the first time here are our impact players for this game and it goes beyond executing an assignment to make an impact in the game yeah obviously we were talking to both coaching this week and we asked them who needs to step up and play while they immediately pointed to these guys right here they are the key for their respective teams yeah and they don't always show up in the Box Score but these are the guys are the leaders these are the guys getting everybody organized and have to play well for their team to succeed well just nothing doing on that last run and they knew coming into this one they were going to be challenged right this is one of the best defense all for them to have any shot they're going to have to do a lot better running the football Tempo lines up quickly [Applause] off the play fake Zing it complete to the right how through and they don't drag him down until he gets all the way to the 46 yd line how nice is it as a quarterback when you don't have to throw post routs to get great stats no I can just throw it quickly to one of the fastest players in the entire nation and let him burn this defense grab behind the line it's goodwi they make the stop trying to pick up just a little bit of a time to get to that first down marker picked up some yardage on the ground now here comes second down from the gun the running back has it really nice stop there from this senior leader third down after the run he'll PLL it on the read they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one Temple lining up to punt it away first punt of the day and he'd love to lock him up close to their goal [Applause] line and he'd hope to pin him deep instead it will be a Touchback FAU has it back as the owls offense will go back to work after that explosive running play David why not just try it again right I mean why not such a big long explosive run you think Jesse maybe give it to him again or or do you say hey QB throw that thing out there I think you keep it on the ground David honestly I was watching the offensive line they were fired up after that long touchdown run you know they just want to go back out there again and get some [Applause] push they're getting this guy lathered up he him in business across the 50 into the 46 yd line it'll be first down here's this offense with a fresh set of downs wide receiver shows motion with Jet Sweep pass inside the 15 and it is a chunk play a huge gain on that one before the defense brings it to an end [Applause] touch pass on the Jet Sweep and the defense wrestles him the ground they need seven more yard to reach the end zone it's second and goal the run up the middle trying to steamroll his way in he pushes it forward all the way to the 2yd line they've already squandered a couple of chance to score touchdowns in the red zone and now another opportunity it's third and goal snowed under by the defense decision time right here I like going forward playing on the road you have an opportunity to take the crowd out of it a little bit here why not just line up quickly and just try to run the ball yeah stay aggressive quarterback sneaks it forward and into the end zone for a touchdown man if you're a defense you get all the way to a fourth down situation and held him so many times and man they punch it in late especially with the physicality I hate when I get beat with physicality and they pounded him ran the football with all the big guys in the game and got the touchdown he'll return it he was hoping for something a little more Dynamic but they get him on the ground at the 20 Temple takes over and the offense will return to the field to say this has been a slow start is a bit of an understatement and they really need to get it going here Jesse that's right the opponent they're firing an all cylinders right out of the gate offensively for this unit they've been slow and struggling they need an explosive play to wake themselves up yeah and it's just the first quarter so it's not the end of the world you've seen slow starts but you got to continue to pick and pick and pick until you find that play or that scheme that you can use against defense temp up quickly gives it to the back on the draw he's going to have enough to pick up the first down as they stop him at the 33 yd line here's this offense with a fresh set of downs offenses that are great on third Downs what do they do most of the time they keep it in manageable situations that they're not predictable not just dropping back to pass they do it here on Third and short they can this offense has been so efficient on third Downs all throughout this season dropping back it's Douglas throwing right complete downi nice pick up there gets him the first down and sets him up at the 45 yd [Applause] line out of the shotgun they go to the ground and a pick up of eight opens a world of opportunities on second and two went to the running game on first down now here they come again they'll run it from the [Applause] gun they finally get him on the ground but the big running play moves to change for the first down the ows come to the line with a new set of [Applause] downs the give to the tailb dropped after a pick up of four down to the 16 after the productive first down play it's second and six now they'll try the right side trying to run it in in the Red Zone he's got four and he's down at the 12 really need to pick up this conversion and avoid having to settle for the field goal wants to throw on third looking for the score and it's CAU touch down Tempo they just took the air out of that thing that might be an understatement they took the ball away and just wor down just grinded away at that defense and took a lot of time off clock in the process as well I'm impressed with the physicality up front of this offense cuz that's where it all starts if you're going to March the ball down the field like they just did you've got to be dominating in the trenches and they are doing that in this game right now the fa off will return to the field now they need to put something together to answer that last score there's a lot of pressure too on this offense to have to execute at a high level they've got to score points David but they can't go too fast because their defense right now is tied and I think that's the difficulty being a play call like I have to balance all of those things my defense is a little bit tired I can't quit on the field but I got to be aggressive because this is a back and forth type game so a lot to process and think about he makes the con ction he's run out of bounds but not before turning in a big pick up and moving the sticks for a first down and when you run those drag routes it just takes a little bit of knoow and when I say that the receivers got to understand find Space my quarterback's going to find me he's looking for that space at the same time nice throw nice catch way to get the first down safe completion on the screen and how about that catch and run so dangerous this guy plays like that put just a second of hesitation in the defense to make sure and they're able to take advantage here and they use the great timing with this call right like you can't call this play all the time but you want to catch them when they're a little bit aggressive not thinking about it nice job slipping the screen behind them making the easy catch and then getting downfield picking up some extra yards fa racing to the line they'll run it out of the shotgun and he swallowed up at the line of scrimmage by the big defensive tackle well you love to see that from the defense right it's like Ben don't break they've given up a bunch of plays on this drive but now they're getting down close to field goal range you're seeing them start to stiffen up there yeah and plays don't matter anymore yards don't matter all that matter with these defenses nowadays is points and limiting [Applause] both teams wanted to establish the run and they have done exactly that in the first quarter they are lined up and ready to go and get things started here in the second a third down play to get the quarter started they'll put the tight in motion they'll stick to the ground looking for the marker they've got it just outside the Red Zone they'll move the chains it's at the 21 this is an offense that leads the nation in first downs because there's so many different ways they can attack you they're versatile they could throw it they could run it they've got so much balance and that's what makes them so hard to stop quarterback on the keeper and they try of this Stout defense and they rise to the challenge really important for a ranked team going into a hostile environment like this one not to give the underdog reason to believe yes reason to believe and don't give the fans reason to get jacked up and excited come out early be in a business mode mindset you got to start fast and he M into the end touchdown Florida Atlantic one of the reasons this offense is so exciting to they've got guys that are dangerous after the catch if this quarterback gets through his progression David he hits you in stride these guys will take it to the house man it's your job to do the rest right you hit me in stride where I don't have to stop running I don't have to break down it makes it so easy the connection between quarterback wide receiver you can tell this is a good one and that's why they got six on that play temple takes over and the owl will send the offense back onto the field we're trailing by 14 Jess yeah and at this point of the game I feel like offensively you should go back to what's been working for you in this game don't be afraid to dial up plays that you've already had success with running it and throwing it it's okay to repeat plays down 14 this and I would also say Palmer kind of understanding that my defense is not playing great so I know offensively I got to put some good possessions together here make something happen on this side of the football just a short pass to the tight end and he might be known for but that was a sure and heavy tackle on the tight end Temple lines up quickly nice quick throw there and it's so important for quarterbacks to be able to find a rhythm and to be comfortable and confident you want to just get the ball out quickly make it an accurate and easy throw and you can tell that these two guys they rep that play in practice all the time and it's now showing up here on good execution they move the sticks and they've got it at the 33 CH are set and Temple another first and 10 that big pick up on what they call the drag route but if you hit it on time you can hit the turbo boosters and you've got to be accurate on the throw too Reese nice job by the QB there putting it out in front of his receiver to make an easy catch and then Advance it let's see what they've got on second down one back in the back field he gets the carry drives ahead for three to the 27 yd line balls at the it's third and short can they avoid making that fourth down [Applause] decision he's got his man excellent job working through the air there finding a hole in that defense and picking up a first down fre snap motion quarterback trying to get a read That's caught it's good one I like the decision by the quarterback here just get the ball out of your hands get it to your playmaker a lot of times he'll dance and make even bigger plays than he did here but it was still a positive game the give to the back he'll be brought down at the five yd line and this defense is on it heels and you know when we talk about great third down defenses it really starts with them getting stops on first and second down you've got to get those stops early in the and the that goes down at the 11 yd line looks as if they'll send out the field goal unit it's good after putting three on the board the kickoff unit ready to [Applause] go you'll call for the fair catch here FAU has it back as the ows offense will go back to work that last Drive really productive David wound up with a touchdown they'll try to do it again yeah so I don't expect this offense to change too much Reese they had a great Drive they got the touchdown and he breaks into the open and he's to the 48 yd line that'll be good enough for a first down they came out hot on this drive one play and already near field receiver going for the edge on the Jet Sweep they'll wrestle him down just short of the first down I don't even think they're going to bring out the change to measure this man when I can run the football like that on first down it creates second and inches and stay way ahead of the sticks and and be in a position now where I can throw the football the he's going to try to return this one rolling the dice to bring it out of the end zone did not work out as he stopped at the 13 Temple takes over and the offense will return to the field it's always great to get points on a drive but it would behoove them to try to get a touchdown this time around Palmer they may have to get out of their comfort zone here too David a little bit and just start being more aggressive and take some chances but that's what's going to have to happen for them to win this game yeah and when you're losing obviously everything gets hyped everything becomes more critical this drive is crucial because you've got to cut into this deficit and put some points on the board out in the Frat he's brought down quickly minimal gain there still a bit short of the first down and the owls come to the line in the hurry up back to throw it's Douglas unloads to the wide out he's got it and the defense makes the immediate tackle but he has enough for the first down a lot of urgency for this offense yeah it's nice to have guys like this on third down on money Downs that you can go to and you know he's going to win hit the gas hit the braks create a little bit of Separation nice job and that is good versatility there and a big hit from the backer in pass coverage a nice job by the defense there tacking the catch and smothering the tight end they know this offense is going to try to find him in the passing game in a lot of different situations that time perfect coverage and nice job bringing the big guy down not easy to do defense going to jam these re receivers right off the line shotgun snap on third down he's going to throw deep right side and they couldn't make the connection on the long shot Tempo lining up to PL it away he's going to try to flip the field with this one they make the Stop and that is exactly what you want out of your punt cover unit the FAU offense will return to the field this has been exactly the way you draw things up David the offense has really been moving the football and it's been great execution they've done exactly what they've wanted to do build the lead now Palmer's a different animal now you got to protect you can tell they were paying attention in practice this week in the film room because they have gone out everybody right now in the same place here comes the offense on second down he's looking to throw starting to feel a little pressure got room at the 35 he's loose he found plenty of room and he gets it to the 39 yd line offense goes on the attack on First and 10 quarterback Quick Pass to the receiver a seveny up it'll be second and three man the defense you hold your breath when this receiver has the football out in space you have got to make sure you're playing with outstanding Pursuit nice job there but as this game goes on you've got to keep an eye on this guy and make sure they know where he is at all times and listen the offensive line has to do their job but a really good job by the running back understanding where his hole is go hit it get the first down don't mess around nice job following his hole getting positive yards dropping back it's Whitaker quarterback now on the Run still looking and not much going on downfield here just get rid of it Live to play another down couldn't make the connection last time let's see if they throw it again he wants to pass it on second down flushed out of the pocket he'll grab the throw to the sideline and step out of bounds after picking up a few the defense has their hands full trying to stop this guy in the slot they're going to have to figure something to bracket him try and get two bodies around and maybe get some safety help as well CU right now they do not have the answer for this guy shotgun snap wants to throw it on third R his big tight end they able to keep him out of the end zone he'll be stopped at the two after the big play in the passing games how valuable is a tight end in the red area now they're set up with a first and goal I love it find the big fell down in the red area big Target works the middle of the field easier throws nice job by this offense keeping it very [Applause] simple run it with the fullback and how about the work up front by that big defensive line can the defense stop them again on second and goal [Applause] slams ahead and he takes it to the touchdown his defense is going to have to do a better job being physical that's two rushing touchdowns they've now allowed they have got to be better close to the line of scrimmage and he made that extra point the wet Turf no problem at all so they got the touchdown and as they kickoff really important for the defense to shut them down here the returner will field it and bring it back didn't find any crease in that kickoff coverage and he'll be stopped at the 17 Temple takes over and the owls send the offense back onto the field now they're backed up here Jesse wonder how aggressive they're willing to be I think it's going to come down to how much confidence they have in this quarterback in his decision making because you cannot throw an intercep at this part of the field with this little time left and I think that's conversations you've had with a young fell on the sideline be like what are you comfortable with right here that we can run maybe stay aggressive but make sure I don't make that mistake from the gun to G looking for room a strong tackle and wrap up from the junior the defense calls a timeout their second of the day as they try to get their act together on Third and short the run and looking for the first down fights his way for a couple but stopped short of the marker it's fourth and one quick timeout by the defense there trying to make sure everyone has the same call fourth down and the punt team sends it the other way he's got great speed this guy is a daring punt return man he's not going to settle for the fair catch a solid return gets a little bit of ground for the offense just enough time for one final play in this half he's going for a big Play Down field incomplete he took a shot on the final play of the quarter and couldn't quite find his man first half in the books time now to join Kevin Connor in our halftime update fellas looks like we've got a terrific scene there today in Philly and we've got to start our halftime breakdown with this super star running back his elusiveness his raw power this young man is theal package and his ability to catch the ball out of the back field is a differentiator a lot of guys can hit the hole this kid can hit the hole and hit the home run in the passing G and with that let's send it back to the guys at the link Lincoln Financial Field [Music] FAU will try to kick it deep and break the seal on this second half he'll start the return inside his five he was looking for some Running Room but not much to be found as he stopped at the 18 Temple takes over and the offense will return to the field got blown out in the first half and now just desperate to find anything to generate momentum here in the third quarter it just starts with One play though you just need one thing to go right for this offense to start to build that momentum and then that becomes infectious for the defense for special teams everything can change it just takes one play it really can and it's so strange and you can't quantify and I don't know how to describe it as a coach or as a player but you got to make something happen and it's got to start on this dve tackled but he has a first down it's hard to stop great Runners it really is that's why you run the football consistently you got a big offensive line a big physical unit you run the football like this man it will take a toll later but you got to tackle this guy over and over again who has this ability to make people miss and make big points got eight on first down now looking at a second and two the run from the shotgun strikes to blow they make the Stop and this running game moves to change as they get the first down this offense putting together a nice drive been showing them the run now they'll throw it swings it out to his running back and the defense settled in to stop that one for a short gain well he made the grab but the doors closed quickly after that and I like this I want to find my running back but man he's got to do a little more damage after the catch I need I need a stiff arm I need a spin move I need something where he can make that guy Miss pick up a bunch of yards and maybe get a big play and you can see the off just feeling itself they've got it down to the 21 the owls have it with a first and 10 looking to move it through the air and it's incomplete if you're going to take a hit like that you might as well hang on to the ball well give the defense credit because they're forcing this quarterback to throw into very small Windows under duress to throw it again got continues to fight for yards The Tackle is made but he's got it first and goal from the this offens in scoring position with a fresh set of downs looking to pass it's Douglas he makes a grab they'll Mark him down at the two the excellent execution on that throwing catch you know that's why this guy can play first second and third down you've already seen him earlier in the drive rip off some nice runs but he can catch the football as well and they're going to find ways to get him going and all sorts of ways but you're seeing it specifically on this drive if this offense wants to stay in this game they have to punch it in on this drive it's third and goal from the gun wants to pass and the quarterback goes down at the 11 yd line our defense nice job early in game playing well with your backs against the wall job's not over yet though this is an offense that has shown that they can go for it on fourth down especially during these situations and the kicker delivers to three to salvage that drive and let's check in with Kevin Conor in the studio Kevin all right guys a little update on what else is happening in college football this weekend Clemson has the lead currently but they've been in a dog fight all day today and just haven't been able to pull away they're up by 10 over North Carolina your boy KC has you covered here in studio guys in case anything changes in this R oh and how about that I know Kevin and those guys will be keeping an eye on it for us one man in the back field and he gets it defense not budging he's still able to get two to the 29 picked up two yards that last one they need eight on second down they move the tight end all over out of the gun they'll run it inside they'll Mark him down at the 40 after ripping off 10 I tell you what with this kind of success on the ground I I think you two Knuckleheads could call plays I mean that's how easy it is for this offense right now they got the ground game working it's really easy now you can open up for other things but you guys could even try your hand because they're dominating right now they'll try the Run not a whole lot of room there three yards maybe second and seven it's just simple simple first down run showing your physicality setting your offense up in a good spot got three on first down it's second and seven quarterback flips it ahead quickly to the receiver finally run out of bounds but he has this off rolling with a first down these touch passes so hard because there's always action off of it right if I fake this pass and I can run it up the gut or I can throw it and I just spread me out and make me defend so many things and you can tell they got on the edge quickly got the big first down give him a couple on that one second and eight coming up that's a really good job by the defense wrapping him up getting him on the ground take away that run game make him one dimensional put him in passing situations really good job by the defense after picking up a couple it's second and eight now on the options now the toss and they just didn't get anybody on that defense out of position and they will lose yard on that one well this guy's been eating them alive all game long finally though David you wonder if the defense has been able to make some adjustments find something positive to help slow this guy down hey baby steps right that's a tackle for a loss I know he's got over aund on the game but this defense is definitely going togive commit more guys to stopping that bad fa will send out the punt team he ought to be able to use his first punt to pin him deep and that is just a spectacular Punt and he will pin them in the shadow of their own goal post inside the five Temple takes over and the owl will send the offense back onto the field always good to get points on a drive David but Chip Shot field goals can leave you a little empty and I think it's great to get points but the great teams get touchdowns in the red area you got to get out there this time and execute a little better on this drive you're absolutely right David generally the best Red Zone offenses are the ones that run the ball the best so let's see if they can be a little bit more physical on this drive off play action he'll heave it deep and it slips through his fingers incomplete that would have been a huge gain if he could have squeezed it and this defense just can't afford not to get the first down here already trailing big and the clock is not he'll take a deep shot here makes a catch on the left open Runway ahead you want to talk about Shifting the field in an instant he's got it all the way down to the 10 yd line if you like old school running games this has been the game for you and a couple of guys who starred through the first three [Music] [Applause] periods starting off this quarter close enough to smell the goal line they'll run it on first and goal and he runs it in for the score [Applause] touchdown and what a push up front by this offensive line everyone playing in unison driving out of their stance working into the second level hats on hats creating a lane for that running back trying to pound their way in this time he'll be stopped short of the goal line so after scoring the touchdown he tried to tack on the two-point conversion but was denied from inside the 10y line he'll bring it back just never had a chance to shake loose and he'll be brought down at the 24 fa has it back as the ow offense will go back to work here's another opportunity Jesse to stretch out this lead after pting last time I think it goes back to your Playmakers reys I think it's finding the guys that have been working for you earlier on in this game and getting them to football and there's obviously no need to panic I mean think about it you got the lead you got the football you got to the football make your plays put a good drive together here going to run it it's McGee and maybe they want to try somewhere else because there is nothing doing in the middle of this defense here on third down for this [Applause] offense give to the big fullback he's got enough for the first down they'll spot it at the 37 how about that play call third down turn it around hand it to the big fella you're fullback and he does the work to get the first out of the gun the inside K that's what you expect from a senior don't give them any extra yards great tackle there and the defense doing a great job committing to the run when you commit to the run like this obviously you can give up some plays in the passing game but you got to stop the run first picked up two yards on that last one they need eight on second down they're trying to get to it he stopped at the 49 after gaining 10 man how tough is this guy to defend he drops back everything tells you pass and then he scrambles and gets the first down just so hard to [Applause] defend quickly out to the tight end there to make the tackle but the big throw is good enough to give them a first down working with a fresh set of downs comes out throwing on first down avoids pressure welcome to the frustrating reality of college football right the guy at the quarterback spot just do that pull it down get yard makes the defense have to account for him every single play they've already peeled more than three minut minutes off the clock on this drive as they stand over the ball on second down the playaction fake using his legs to buy some time and he was hit just as he was releasing the pass and it falls to the ground incomplete they couldn't connect on second down now staring at a third and nine back to throw it's Whitaker trying to make magic on the scramble he'll come through on third down as he's got enough and they'll at the 23 it's going to be tough on this defense containing this guy because he's got that six sense to get outside the pocket and at that point he's throwing it and hurting you or you can take off and run that time able to get the first down big challenge for the defense moving forward incomplete and very lucky that one wasn't picked off man could they have used that it'll be second down oh you're living dangerously now you've got the lead late in the game don't do anything to turn it over and they almost did throwing it there if I'm the head coach now I'm thinking man let's just run the ball they make the stop after a pick up of three just inside the red zone at the 19 they've made clutch tough plays on this drive on third down they need one more on Third and seven from the gun wants to pass firing to the right complete and sure tackl there to keep him from getting to the first marker they didn't quite get that rout deep enough to pick up the first down now they've got a fourth and short and I think everybody at home tends to yell at their television set why aren't you getting past the first down marker why did you run your route short defense did a good job knowing where that was but now fourth down offense has to make a decision now down to the 12 yd line it's first down wide receiver now comes in motion try to get the edge with a quick touch pass and the defense makes the stop after minimal gain going to work in the Red Zone they can't pick up the first down without getting it into the end zone quick touch pass to the receiver not a whole lot of progress made there on the short R not a lot of ground to cover and not much to defend a big third down in the red zone to the air it's Whitaker getting some heat nowhere to go in the is loose and the defense jumps on it they get that turnover that's what I'm talking about keep fighting right this game ain't over yet like you still got an opportunity does it look good no but now I got the ball back great job by the defense forcing the turnover now let's see if we can go out and make this thing interesting put some plays together maybe get an onside kick the he and the ow want to pick up the tempo and defensively this is exactly what you want right you got the big lead so you can play Big Zone coverages just keep the ball in front of you keep your eyee on the quarterback rally to the football gang tackle you're going to win this game hey man this quarterback has had a day with that pass he goes over 300 yard on the day really nice job executing putting up some yards today and the pressure gets to him down goes the quarterback two minutes now left in this one and time is running short if they want to find a way to pull this one out they'll try to keep that sack from Wrecking this drive here on second and 15 setting up the screen shows him the stiff arm they make the stop but not before he takes a chunk out of what they need to move the sticks snap from the gun on third down and the incomplete pass will bring up fourth down obviously when you're playing in weather like this the ball is very slippery and it's hard to catch the QB threw a it that time and his receiver just could not reel it in down in the fourth quarter it's too late for empty possessions they'll go for it on fourth down he'll try to throw and pick up the first down find his man and they convert all kinds of Running Room and he'll take it all the way they couldn't bring him down touchdown there we go there's step one there's a lot of things that needs to happen for this but they started with the touchdown time's tiing out we got to go for two here cut this to eight where we maybe can get another score and get that two-point conversion to TI well head coach obviously decided it was best to go for two points right there they didn't get it and you just wonder if chasing the points is going to hurt this team later in the game they' hope to get that thing bouncing around but the hands team is able to Corral it the FAU offense will return to the field that last drive and the turnover not what you're looking for when you have the lead Jesse Yeah and really I think for them it's just staying out of their own way they're making plays they've got The Playmakers to go and win this game so it's just a matter of executing better than executing better understanding I still got the lead put a drive together here and build on that lead really nice stop there from this senior leader defense uses a timeout quickly trying to get that ball back and preserve time for their offense let's go big fullback got it he works his way inside the 30 down to the 29 and picks up a first down quick timeout called by the defense stopping the clock to save as
