Rep. Laurel Lee Joins Trey Gowdy, Sunday Night in America to Discuss Bipartisan Task Force

it Laurel Lee serves on house Judiciary and Homeland Security and is investigating the Trump assassination attempt and she joins us now welcome to you congresswoman law enforcement can remove a bullet from a suspect draw blood in a fell n DUI case but somehow can't gain access to a suspect's phone I I'm having a look I know I'm Pro prosecution but I'm having a hard time making sense of why they're they're having trouble accessing this shooter cell phone yes and this is a challenge for law enforcement not just in this case but as you point out in others where there's information on an iPhone that's password protected or is encrypted that even in a case like this where there's no question what happened there's no question who did it they barriers to law enforcement into getting that information here they were able to quickly get into the suspect's cell phone and some of the information that they're looking for now is located overseas or was it encrypted applications so there is still work being done to try to get answers to those basic questions because that's what we need to know is who is this person how did he get up there how did he prepare for this was he working with anyone else uh but one thing I will say Trey is that uh there is work being done on this investigation Around the Clock the members of this task force have been in constant communication with each other the FBI is working at home and overseas a number of us including myself have had the opportunity to go out to but to actually visually See the s side of the assassination attempt all of us on this task force are committed to ensuring that we get to the bottom of what happened here and how we can prevent it from happening again let's listen to the Secret Service together and then I'm going to ask you a question on the other side we should have had better protection uh for the protecte we should have had better coverage on that roof line uh we should have had at least some other set of eyes from the Secret Service point of view covering that that building was very close to that Outer Perimeter uh and we should have had more of a presence the Secret Service takes full responsibility for the tragic events of July 13th this was a mission failure okay accepting responsibility to me does not obviate the question of how how did this happen um how does your investigative committee your task force plan to get the answers to the how seeing it in person makes it all the harder to answer that question because as he's as he's touching on there this is not a large area there were not very many buildings that needed to be secured uh this was a site that should have been anticipated it should have been locked down it should have been secure so what our committee will do is you right now we're Gathering evidence not just law enforcement but also from people and rally goers who were there they have such important information what they saw what they heard what they did that day so what Congress really brings to bear in this circumstance is that we can bring all of these people together with our oversight Authority the federal agents who had a responsibility their Partners in state and local law enforcement some of whom have already been working with us and testifying in front of Congress and then also the men and women the families that were there that day at the rally who have such important insight about what they saw and what happened so what we will be doing as a task force is ensuring that all of that information comes forward comes out and is shared with the American people all right before I'll let you go let's listen to a Supreme Court Justice together and then I'm going to ask you one more quick question the independent Judiciary means what does it mean to you as an American it means that when you're unpopular you can get a fair hearing under the law and under the Constitution it's there for the moments when when the spotlights on you when the government's coming after you and don't you want a ferociously independent judge and a jury of your peers to make those decisions isn't that your right as an American and so I just say be careful all right Biden wants to radically remake the court I I I could have sworn you did better than I did in law school Laurel but I could have sworn the judicial branch was a co-equal branch of government did I miss something you did not this is an absolute attack on the independence of the Judiciary what Joe Biden is after here is essentially a court packing scheme to and he would achieve that by requiring the retirement of our senior conservative leaning justices our United States Constitution says plainly that our Justices are appointed for Life what Joe Biden is attempting to do here is just nothing short of an assault on the independence of the Judiciary and the whole purpose Founding Father set it up this way so that the justices would be independent and would be protected from political and outside influences that's the whole point behind the lifetime appointment so this is something that everyone needs to be watching and paying attention to on Election Day congresswoman thank you for
