Run productive with the Run rushing the ball but the defense defense was given up a lot thus the new coaches well and I think that's why they're excited about this season is because from the offense 83% of that production comes back they feel like they can take the next step offensively in the second year under offensive coordinator play caller Buster fogner system you see Buster fogner there he's on the leftand side really really clever offensive mind and it's going to be important throughout the course of this game against the athleticism they're facing that they're able to keep using Joe I mean it's it's the toughest in the ACC it's ridiculous you got 11 teams on the schedule that were in bowl games a year ago non-confidence they're playing Notre team in Georgia and they have so many games away from Bobby DOD Stadium I mean theyve got their work cut out for second and 10 this is Haynes as Haynes is bottled up at the 29 yd line so this this is a big situation here for Haynes King and Georgia Tech an area I don't think they were very good at a year ago was just drop back passing without the play action when the defense knew they were going to throw it accuracy not always great from haes King decision making not only always great receivers the ability to separate wasn't always there they have got to be better in that department and here's a perfect example here and is finally torn down at about the 36 yd line by shahen brown but Chad Alexander the walk on was mostly travel roster special teams guy a year ago with a big run here of 17 yards able to get a big block by the left guard Houston going out and kicking out Omar Graham the thing I love about this rushing attack from Georgia Tech Joo they've got so much volume it's Zone it's power it's counter it's jet sweeps it's quarterback runs there's a lot for Florida State defensively to have to prepare for in this game nice job by Jackson halls there the big tight ends to clear the way first down pass attempt King going deep overthrows the intended target Singleton and he was open and that is one Haynes King is going to want to wish he had back I think Singleton is a superstar in the making that time and a tight was running the corner R and he had complete separation wide open going to the corner and that has got to be a touchdown we talked about the inconsistency from Georgia Tech a year ago in the drop back passing game those are just plays you've got to be able to make second and 10 designed quarterback run here's King as he gets to the outside inside the 30 and lowers the shoulder with a lot of raah raw from the near sideline to get the extra yardage that's the thing Joe about Hayes King right at 2115 lbs he's actually a pretty physical Runner when you watch him on film often times he's falling forward he's not sliding he's not running out of bounds he's taking guys on that time aaria Thomas putting his shoulder down and getting extra yards and a good job again from the transfer tight end Jackson Hall as he got that seal on the outside said a couple key Blocks Early on here this rushing attack Georgia Tech picking right back up see their ACC ranks a year ago 12 yds there for King Jackson Halls transfer from Yale played for Tony Reno up in New Haven Alexander now testing the right side spins fre and then is wrestled down eventually by shyen Brown I tell you Joe I'm impressed the right side of that Georgia Tech offensive line a lot of white jerseys getting push and it wasn't until about four or five yards down field and anybody in Florida State even touched Alexander that time and nice strong running getting the spin they're not going to wrap him up Georgia Tech on the March this rushing attack prolific from a year ago right now you're seeing all the different variety they have in the different ways and the different people that can carry the football defensive coordinator Adam Fuller trying to deal with this Georgia Tech attack second and three Haynes as Haynes King and a will scoop his way the 13 yd line and that is a first down for George Tech it's a really good read by Haynes King because it's basically a run run option he's taking the hand off inside he's allowing the defensive end that time C loha to crash down once he does that he's Off to the Races and again you see how strong of a runner hannes king is not an easy guy to bring down first down at the 14 yd line Jamal Haynes he is met just inside the 10 yd line this is going to be the 11th play of the drive for Georgia Tech so DJ young says you know I got to I got to stay yards down the field later on about nine yards down the field what this tells me is not only are some of your defensive statistical leaders gone but some of the leadership is gone somebody's got to get into the Huddle and say hey let's step up let's wake up and not have this be a game that's tied at halftime Brent Kean offensive line L guy by Trey Georgia Tech showed that throughout the first half even with that second Drive they punched down the field as you said in six plays to answer the Florida state drive they went for two to make it 8 nothing and then to make it 87 something sustainable for Georgia Tech first half 18 rushes five passes well that's who they are and that's what Georgia Tech wants to be Brent key offens former offensive lineman offensive line coach he wants to be physical for the last several years he's been turning this Georgia Tech Team into a physical tough football team we saw it last year with that win against Miami seven and six now all of a sudden there's almost proof to the pudding of who they want to be momentum for Florida State there at the end of the half they kicked the field goal to tied up at 14 a piece this the much hyped debut of DJ OU younga coming over from Oregon State look at the air yards per attempt minus 0.1 they need dju not only in this game to get out of here with a win but throughout the season to be able to take some shots down field he just hasn't done it yet in the first half well they didn't think they were going to need dju to take shots down the field so Florida State they've lost a lot on offense as well Keon Coleman Jordan Travis Etc but the strength of their team is their offensive line three returning starters and all-americans on that offensive line we saw it in the first drive but all of a sudden if you have to take shots down the field we haven't seen dju be able to complete the shots down the field let alone take them Mike norell did a great job at a portal but you're losing a lot on that offense from a year ago and the undefeated team we'll see how they bounce back in the second half three additions to the ACC this year it was a it was a season of change as I said in college football but if you're conference is going to make a statement Sam Mao you have to win your Marquee non-conference opponents and the ACC is set up to do so especially in week one with Clemson and Georgia and Miami and Florida well that Clemson Georgia game is the one I'm most excited about K clck coming in to start again then Barrett Carter on the defensive side of the ball he could have gone to the NFL yet he's one of the best inside linebackers in all of football and so Clemson flying a little bit under the radar gets a chance to prove it early against Georgia and look sometimes ACC fans say look it's a big one 12 teams made up of the five highest ranked Conference champions plus the next seven highest ranked teams the four highest ranked Conference champions will be seated one through four and receive first round buys with eight teams seated 5 through 12 will'll play in the first round with the eight team seated 5 through eight hosting home games from there the playoff will play out as dictated by the bracket with no receding between rounds until the national champion is crowned January 20th on ESP PN there is zero chance you digested anything I Just Whipped through because it's a new era in college football and is worth explaining because sacho this is going to get a lot of grief from a lot of people because let's just say for instance Big 12 Champion let's say the Big 12 Champion going into Conference Championship weekend ranked 10th they win their conference Championship they're going to get a top four seed no matter what because of this new format in the 12 team player but there will be some joy for teams ranked 5 to8 cuz teams ranked 5 to8 get a home game and so that's the difference is this year teams ranked 1 to four the four highest ranked Conference champions will get a bye-week week one teams 5 to8 get a home game 9 to 12 a little bit different they play away but that one caveat is this the highest ranked group of five Champion will automatically get the 12 seed so whoever's ranked 12 come that penultimate week maybe bumped out for the highest rank group of five some of the people are putting brackets out there I had one out yesterday on get up and I had Memphis in there people was Memphis well I think Memphis is the best team in a group of five and so they win the group of five Conference Championship they get into the top 12 but what this also does not only allowing a group of five team into the playoff field this allows a team and I've said this before Penn State 10 and two every single year but on the outside looking in this is perfect for a Penn State an Old Miss these teams that have been close but haven't been able to get in but even better what's even more perfect for a Penn State or an old missa team that has been on the outside looking in is that there's no more divisions in the SEC or in the Big 10 anywhere and so Penn State will have a better opportunity not only to to get to a a big 10 Championship but to win one and potentially get a bye now the last caveat I'll say is this there's been conversation from some coaches about well do we want to play in that SEC Championship game or would you rather sit that week so you can rest that week get a home game and have a little bit more rest CU if not you have to win four games in a row to be a champion of by the way America I'm going have success so in a big moment you go to the experienced wide receiver to make a play also had a big fourth down conversion catch for Florida State when they were trailing Florida in that critical year defensive coordinator they just look like they're getting lined up their communicating guys are playing their assignments they're never at a position and that was a problem a year ago but you got to remember this is everybody's first game in this new system defensively as well but they're communicating into the Green Dot that's linebacker Kyle eford he also has the microphone and the headset in his helmet and he's doing a really nice job getting everybody lined up coach the player communication changes the landscape of the sport this year juu on third down that was thrown to the outside Williamson was well [Music] cered but another really good example of these third down exotic looks that Tyler santui has become known for and he changes it up throughout the course of the game he doesn't show you the same sub package at the line of scrimmage new players new alignments constantly keeping you on your heels it's very very difficult to prepare for defenses that have so many different looks on third down the way Georgia Tech now [Music] does so Master Mano on to try to pin Georgia Tech as Shelly will set up shop just around the 10 yd line that goes into the end zone so what's new in 2024 well the biggest of all we finally have the new 12 team college football playoff where the four Conference champions will take those valued first four seeds and you get a buy one through four you got to be a conference Champion for that then teams 5 through 12 will play in what is the first round on campus starting on December 20th five Conference champions get in the next seven highest ranked so if you took the current rankings going into the season this is strangely what it would look like glad to have it but I think a lot of people will be saying now why would Utah with a 12 next to their name get the four seed the a for mentioned you have to be a conference Champion to get one of the top four SE what I think is Big here too Joe is those first round games the higher ranked team gets home field advantage aren't neutral sight games so a lot of changes it's going to be really interesting to see how it shakes out Jamal Haynes taken down immediately as DJ Lundy darts in DJ Lundy is a leader and he was part of a three-man rotation at linebacker in a position that was really a strength for the seminal last season but he just sees the key and as soon as he sees this hole open he sees guards pulling he's now playing downhill they lost him in the portal to Colorado in the offseason Joe he decided to come back to Florida State and that was a big get for Adam Fuller and Mike norell cuz he is one of the team's best leaders and he is the Green Dot player so he is the player that go is incomplete with the pressure coming in from Joshua ker bu's that Green Dot player who has the defensive coordinator Adam Fuller in his ear good pressure that time on second down by Joshua farmer third and 12 yeah and Patrick pton FL State this is a place that he has to come alive he is the most dynamic pass rusher that Florida state has and right now normally lining up to the far left side up over top of a tight end is Georgia Tech going to help with him right now they have the tight end to his side they've got the running back to his side and obviously the right tackle there as well you would think we're at dope Campbell listening to this crowd here at a via stadium in Dublin third down and 12 Haynes King with time receiver went down ball went to the ground as he was looking for Rutherford incomplete and the Florida State Defense does their job and that's had to become ACC Champions with adversity late and now they start this year trailing in the fourth quarter to this fiery Georgia Tech Team who comes up big again as L miles Brooks undercuts Roy Del Williams M that time jakai Douglas in motion at receiver and he runs right by L miles Brooks look at number one on the right side of the formation he's going to shoot this it's just too late for jakai Douglas to get the stop I've been impressed with Georg Tech's tackling in this game Joe maybe none more so than the secondary we've seen Amari Harvey make some big stops at the corner position that play top 10 team in the country trailing by seven Tyler santui instant impact defensive coordinator added to this staff came over from duke spent time at A&M he has made a difference immediately again by that play call Joe it feels like this will score down territory for Mike go for it no matter what I mean there's still a lot of football left you know maybe he doesn't have a lot of confidence right now in his defense that he can get a stop against the rushing attack from Georgia Tech and get an opportunity so a lot of time here still to go in the football seem like Mike norell pushing a lot of his chips to the middle of the table saw the analytics come up it's fourth down and eight it said analytics said go and that is what Mike norell will do fourth down and eight DJ they tell you with haes King they say we will confidently say that he's the most underrated player in the country they feel he's the best quarterback in the ACC most underrated player in the country well if it hadn't been for 16 interceptions a year ago I think more people might be on board with that but so far he's done a pretty good job with ball security throwing the football has made good decisions they had a near disaster getting a fumble back on a on a mu uh Mish hand off Zone Reed a few drives back but for the most part gain King and his decision making in this game has been pretty good so Bren key the head coach the second full season as a Georgia Tech head coach second six trying to turn the corner was hes King as he gets it to the 33 yard line a gain of four at this point here doesn't it just kind of feel like which of these defenses can get a critical stop and get it back to their guy with just about 5 minutes to go in the game Georgia Tech's had success running it in a whole lot of different ways right here in Florida State in their front seven and they match that physicality and get a stop this is a big big play in this game third down and two [Applause] [Music] [Applause] and you see a lot of pointing over at that Georgia Tech side there was some movement and the flags come in going to be on the Right Guard rutage a little Flinch and that all of a sudden third seven a lot different than third two number 72 5y penalty third down there's a good chance Brent and Georgia Tech were going to run the football there in that situation now you've got to throw it we've talked about the drop back game being the area Georgia Tech has to improve the most and it makes it a little bit more challenging now facing these athletes Florida state has up front look at this setting here at a via stadium in Dublin Ireland the intensity of a conference game being well played with under five minutes to play and tied up and a big third down Kane pressure gets it out gets it complete as Haynes gets all the extra yardage and the yellow jackets are in business phenomenal decision that time by Haynes King he's hot he's got a free Blitzer coming off the edge his answer is going to be the running back in the flat he never panicked he gets his head in the right place gets it out early and allows Jamal Haynes to advance the football we talked about the good decision making hannes King's been making that's a good example of being in the second year of the system and Buster fuler knowing where his answers are jet motion but he keeps it and he's able to cut back against the grain and then get Franklin pushing the way and Paving it out past Midfield Little Road trater action from his Center Weston Franklin he going to need a ice bat I mean haes King's now carried in 13 times but none of them have looked nice I mean every time he's dragging guys in the ground they're jumping on them they fak the Jets me the Singleton and that's just that's just all haes four team playoff that matters 12 team it won't that's a problem oh no if they win it right but what what it tells you about the rest of the ACC is that maybe the compet there isn't as good that's why for the conference Miami needs to win this game it's going to be fun we're in week zero what whatever the hell that means but week one is loaded especially one of those games we were just talking about Miami and Florida the notable week one games Alabama K and the bore era gets underway the scheduler should be fired for Florida State and Georgia Tech first they're playing in Dublin and now here on ESPN we'll be in here at the halftime plus over on ABC M swack challenge Florida A&M norfk State 7:30 p.m. Eastern on ABC as we've said multiple times at the season of change in college football perhaps the most notable we went from four to 12 teams in the upcoming college football playoff here's Kirk herb street with an explainer on how this is going to go down the 12 team college football playoff is here so let's dig into how the teams can punch their playoff tickets the 12 team college football playoff will feature the five highest ranked Conference champions plus the next seven highest ranked teams as determined by the cfp selection committee the four highest ranked Conference champions will be seated one through four and receive first round by with the fifth highest ranked conference Champion being seated where it was ranked or at number 12 if its final ranking lands outside of the top 12 so that's who gets in which brings us to where and when the games we play the eight team seated 5 through 12 will play in the first round starting on December 20th with the team seated 5 through 8 hosting a home game meaning the pageantry of oncampus college football is coming to the playoffs for the first time man that is going to be incredible from there the playoff will play out as dictated by the bracket with no receding between rounds the quarterfinals and semifinals will be played at traditional New Year 6 bowl game locations followed by the national championship game in Atlanta where our first 12 te college football playoff National Champion will be crowned on January 20th only on ESPN herb thank you that reminds one of those videos you see before you're getting ready to take off in an airline and they're explaining all the things please put your trade but Kirk herbs did a great job explaining that it's going to be something that fans are going to have to get accustomed to because it is so new it is kind of convoluted if you haven't studied it but the one thing that that's Paramount that we point out and I did this earlier and I'm going to do it again let's just say the Big 12 Champion for the sake of this conversation is Utah that that's the favorite coming out they're ranked 12th at the time they win the Big 12 Championship they get a buy and they're a top four seed regardless of where they were ranked coming into the championship weekend I think that jars a lot of people when they see that but that's the way the format is Trevor your overall thoughts on what we're about to embark on in this season yeah what makes it more Whiplash for fans than that is that if the group of five Champion is ranked 25th they're going to bounce the 12th team out that's right so a fan base whose team finishes number 12 in the final rankings they think good we're in and here comes number 25 to take you out because they're the they're the fth highest ranked conference Champion I love this though I love it because it keeps everybody involved in all regions of the country and teams like a Florida State like a Michigan that are even either having new coaches or new quarterbacks or have some injuries can lose a game early and then pick up another loss later in the season and still have a chance to make it and so they're not out of the conversation in mid October but also Conference champions matter as well so Notre Dame let's say Notre Dame is a top two or number one ranked team all of a sudden they didn't get a chance to play a conference Championship or win a conference Championship if they were up in those top four they'd be bumped down to five that's the highest that they could be and so that's why those conference championships mean something because you'll get that first round by week in the playoffs they'd be a good example that when you were just talking about a second ago s Notre Dam's hanging around 10 11 12 coming into the final weekend and things happen below them in Conference Championship games because look this is the first time in college football history you could go into your conference Championship game which is a whole other discussion whether you want to be there and rest or lose and still make it to the college football playoff Texas is a great example of that let's say Texas and Georgia go playing Atlanta Texas comes into that game 11- one and they lose in the SEC Championship and they're 11-2 Texas I think would have the argument the Bonafide the skill to make it to the college football playoffs yes they'd have the skill but the problem is they would play in that game lose in that game now you have to play another game and play three more games if you want to go win a championship what the problem well so that's the problem cuz that's a lot of that's that's no rest that's what we wanted we wanted more ball though but but you don't get a chance to rest I mean you've already looked at some of the injuries at Texas two running backs are down they're starting running back is down a freshman running back is down Notre Dame injury at left tackle they got to replace their new starting left tackle and so so you talk about that Texas Georgia example well let's say Alabama is just hanging around in that seven or eight they take that week off and now they have a chance to rest and recover before that playoff start and so that's the problem it's good to get in the championship but if you lose that championship game now you have to play again and again and again it makes that road more difficult to make it to the championship and Trevor I I I find it interesting we we we come up with teams all the time that that based on prior rankings would be in the college football playoff I don't think there's any better example than that than Penn State who annually is 10 and two under James Fred because they can't get by Ohio State they can't get by Michigan a lot of people have over the past couple of years and then Lane kein and oh miss you look at those two programs right there double digit win now they're playing for a national championship but to your point probably not playing for a conference Championship right and I think those two teams are in two different positions though because I think to get into the playoff is one conversation who has a chance to actually win it all is a different conversation so we talk about Penn State being able to make it in ol miss being able to make it in I think ol Miss has a much better chance this year to make noise in the playoff then Penn State might we'll see once they start to play but I think that the usual suspects will have to win a lot of games anybody will if you have a buy you've got to win three games not two to win the national Championship if you don't have a buy you have to win four games not two from a four te playoff to win the national championship so yeah teams can get in but are you good enough to then win all those games against the best teams in the country they in lies that argument the coaches are having wor roster size limit with all the games that could be played that's for another show at a different time but the college football playoff also allows this is the conversation I love in the group of five teams I'm bullish on Memphis I think with their quarterback coming I I think they are in a really really good good spot to get the group of five bid you who do you like for a group of five team I like Liberty and the reason why is that last year they went undefeated but more than that this is the number one rushing offense in all of college football think about players like Kaden Sal at quarterback dual threat quarterback but more than that they're running back Quinton kie 57 but he this team loves to run the ball Jamie Chadwell is our new coach remember he was at Coastal Carolina so this Liberty team has an easy schedule likely to go undefeated again in the regular season that could be the only thing that hurts them they may not be ranked high enough based off the strength Chad well there a year ago obviously led him to the new year six game against Oregon we saw what happened there I think Liberty schedule should be looked at a little closer when it comes to this part of the reason for that is that the committee is not supposed to look at last year but they're human and Liberty made the new year six last year as a group of five representative and got utterly smashed by Oregon and so not being able to prove themselves to the committee with a tough non-conference win they have to be utterly dominated against everybody else all right Trevor I'm on Memphis he's on Liberty who are you on group of five oyy State oh I love it Mountain West let's go Smurf Turf listen first of all you talk about schedule and opportunity they play against Oregon and they have a chance against Oregon who has to play the Rivalry game against Oregon State the next week to make if not beat him at least show that they belong on the field with them they also play Washington State Oregon State and so they've got the schedule to be able to do it but they've also got the horses they got had a running back who's one of the best combination Runner and receiver out of the back field in the country they've got a defense that has almost everybody back and they get behind the line of scrimage and they're disruptive and they've got a quarterback situation that's interesting surprise quarterback situation madx Matson beat out transfer Malachi Nelson from USC one R recruit country so I'm not sure if that's going to be for the whole season or if Nelson continues to to grow in the system I don't know what's going to happen I just know that as long as the quarterback situation is good at boisey State they've got every body else and the schedule to impress the committee could you imagine a 12 team playoff back in the Chris Peterson era oh man when Jared Z bransky was running around and they were doing Statue of Liberty Kell Moore is out there slinging the pill we were doing breakdowns just on boisey state trick plays and it was like it was like Comedy Hour not because we were funny but because they were funny right but this is where we get into the same situation though boyy State back then would have made it they can beat in Oklahoma they can beat in one game a big team the question is can you then beat the next one and the next one Seasons Six National titles nine Conference titles and Jim Harbaugh restoring his Alma moer to its Glory One National Title a year ago and now they replace him with shiron Moore what do you expect out of Michigan and the job that Chiron Moore has got to do replacing Jim Harbor I think he'll try to do the same thing I mean under Harbaugh they were brutally physical Michigan was the biggest bully in college football last year shiron Moore former offensive line coach at Michigan I think he'll want to keep that going but he's got to retool not only the entire offensive line all five guys are gone he's also got a get a new quarterback he's got to get new running back and receivers so the offense needs to be completely retooled I think that's going to be interesting but what's going to be critical is to maintain that physicality but they're going to be tested early September 7th they play Texas later on in September they play USC later on in November early November they play Oregon end end of November they play Ohio State this team has tests all throughout their schedule and I get getting up for one game but man you're going to be tested by teams that are not only getting better but and getting stronger ER but more confident as a season goes on and with what they lost I mean the the whole Jim Harbaugh era was built for last year that's it all of those guys coming back Blake km JJ McCarthy the offensive it was for That season That season that era that time is gone I think this job is significantly more difficult than when kayin dor has got to do at Alabama well I would agree with that but for Chiron Moore at least what he has coming back is a smothering defense and that allows the offense time to get up to speed the only difference is smothering defense but a defensive coordinator gone a lot of the defensive staff is gone and so I think the defense will still be smothering but how much will play calling affect what you see on the field now what do they say about when you replace a legend they say you don't want to be the guy that replaces the guy you want to be the guy that replaces the guy after the guy but I think Kaylin theor was a home run for Alabama what he can do offensively Nick sa said it today on college game day he's been at practices the last couple of weeks he knows this team better than anyone he says they look really really good in practice your thoughts on year one for kayin deor I couldn't be more excited for Kayla D'Or why because jayen Muro is his quarterback Jaylen Muro is one of the best deep ball throwers in all of college football and what did klin D'Or do last year with Michael penx Jr throw the ball deep 4,093 yards that led all of college football so now you have that that big play offense with a big play quarterback and oh by the way an offensive line that I think is significantly improved led by Tyler Booker at guard Kaden Proctor at tackle I think they're going to be a lot better and and I think Jaylen M after going through the fire last year came back even stronger as we saw the last eight games of the Season top of the hour here on ESPN Trevor mat Sam Mao Matt Barry if you are looking for the high school football game St Thomas aquanus Bishop Gorman out there in South Florida it is in a weather delay so we are here just talk some hardcore college football in week zero talking about some of the coaches that are coming in under pressure again I think kayn dbor walks into a readymade situation kind of like first of all completely different style of of what Nick sa did a defensive minded head coach high flying offense he made Michael penx a thing and made Washington a thing in the national championship he's going to succeed quickly and scarily for college football probably much like his predecessor which is a tough thing to do he was one of my top two that when coach Sabin stepped away I thought if kayin dbor came I would be thrilled if I'm an Alabama fan and the thing about it is that it's different there when you listen to how the players are talking about him they're having fun you know not that they didn't have fun under Nick Sav but it's a different kind of of an atmosphere under kayin debor it seems to be more loose and there's more than one way to skin a cat but here's what it comes down to there's a lot of conversation and rightfully so about following the greatest of all time ultimately what he has to do is win and you mentioned Jaylen milro a quarterback the his ability kayin dbor and his staff to get the most out of milro both with those deep passes that you talked about while incorporating his ability to run which Michael penck Jr at Washington last year could not do they were afraid he'd get hurt the B's ability to develop milro and win games based on that is going to go a long ways towards people saying yeah this was the guy to follow the legend but mil has been through the fire I got a chance to see him at SEC media Day last year and he he was glow not last year a few weeks ago a few months ago he was glowing he was a dude who was bed early in the season after that Texas game then he came back on a tear was in the conversation for the Heisman trophy so if you think about what it takes to develop a quarterback to develop at any position we're in this microwave Society well Jaylen murro has been through not a microwave but a a furnace and he's come out even stronger so that's why I'm excited about this Alabama team that's why I think that they're going to be a lot better than anyone gives them credit for it I said it early in this show that one of my pet peeves is these rankings that we use at the beginning of the season because I think they're absolutely worthless my other current pet peeve in college football is the Ryan Day Hot Seat talk because all he does is Win games each and every year multiple double digit he just hasn't been able to get by Miss if you look at the record one and three in the college football playoff not great one and three against Michigan will get you fired but Ohio State Trevor You could argue including Georgia they have the most talent in the country they do the big question though is now a quarterback isn't it I mean if you take Georgia and Ohio State and line up their rosters Georgia's awesome i' take the Buckeyes but for one position you've got Carson Becka Georgia who's got experience and that guy is phenomenal will Howard by all accounts transferred because he lost his starting job at Kansas State to Avery Johnson okay so now he's at Ohio State the big question will be can Will Howard distribute the ball can he drive that train that has so much enormous talent and enormous skill and Ohio State will go as far as Johnson can take them well will Howard to your point yes that question will be there but remember two years ago Howard yeah well to your point two years ago he won a big 12 championship in Kansas State but that's not the real point I think the real the bigger point is this I don't think it's going to be as big of a pass heavy offense the reason why is that Chip Kelly is now the offensive coordinator Chip Kelly a few years ago the last few years was at UCLA while he was there they were one of the best rushing offenses in all college football and so as much as you have a quarterback and an offense that wants to distribute the ball at least historically they may lean on their running game lean on trayon Henderson lean on transfer Quin Shan Judkins who was the SEC freshman of the Year from o Miss few years ago this may be a different style of offense that we're going to see may not need the quarterback as much it because look we're coming off Justin fields and CJ strad right and then Kyle McCord who transferred to Syracuse it might be one of those where there's just so much around him and will Howard this isn't a slight just be a game manager get the ball to The Playmakers run the football Chip Kelly's a great offensive mind he was Ryan day's Mentor coming in that's got to be a great relationship for Ryan Day giving up the play calling duties doesn't want to do it but chip Kelly's there to call the ball plays understand what Ryan Day wants to do right but go back to the Oregon teams when Chip Kelly was running the show there and they ran the ball with the quarterback a lot of Zone reads a lot of called quarterback runs and so we talk about will Howard from the standpoint of can he match CJ strout on those great passers as a passer but like you said I think they'll rely on the run but incorporate the quarterback in those runs a lot because now the defense eventually with that great offensive line of the Buckeyes maybe the best staer running backs in all of college football you're going to have to bring a safety up and then you've got one of the best Stables of wide receivers in all of college football you can't cover everybody man for man as they're running deep down the field so if Howard can go play action and hit those guys once in a while this offense will be a nightmare even if he doesn't throw the ball like a CJ strap you know he'd be even more of a nightmare not the offense for Ohio State the defense for Ohio State I mean talk about some dogs on the defense guys like Jack Sawyer JT Tui maloa and oh by the way they got Caleb DS from Alabama who was a freshman last year All-American Alabama leading tackler the first freshman to do that that's their new safety next to lean Ransom so this defense similar to last year they brought all these guys back to try and go and win a National Championship that's what we're seeing at Ohio State all these guys are coming back to try and go not only beat the team up North but go and win a National Championship they invested in the collectives they made it a serious priority in the offseason just the names you guys mentioned they could have had one of the best transfer portal Halls uh in the country but quarterbacks that that's what happens in college football now you're quarterback we saw with dju earlier we talked about will Howard Dylan Gabriel's another one at Oregon who's coming in to replace Bo Knicks who by the way was just named the starting quarterback in the Denver Broncos and so here you have Dylan Gabriel started his career at UCF moved on to Oklahoma plugging and playing him in Oregon makes Oregon a legitimate not only big 10 Championship Contender nation of Championship Contender that's right I mean he has a chance to be the the leading all-time passer in college football you know depending on the kind of year he has and that's huge because Oregon is stocked with great receivers and great running backs their offensive will be one of the best in the country so now we talk about Ohio State can Will Howard pull all that stuff together well Dylan Gabriel can run they don't want him to run too much because he's a much more little guy than Howard at Ohio State but if he's able to do what he does which is throw the ball all over the field that means deep that means everywhere stretch the defense they've got the skill people to then catch the ball and off they go and so bringing him in may have been the most important transfer at any position of any team a you're high on you were high on Dylan very high and the reason why is that we may not see a drop off often times you talk about quarterbacks transferring or different positions transferring and there's a little bit if not a huge drop off we're not going to see that from Bo Knicks to Dylan Gabriel Bo Knicks came in and was a Heisman trophy finalist Dylan Gabriel has the exact same talent and skill set now you're bringing that talent that experience that skill set and planing it into an offense is that was that was if not the number one top two passing offense of college football so I don't see any drop off coming for this Oregon offense a second consecutive year speaking of the Quarterback free agency market that Notre Dame has gone to the portal to get their quarterback Hartman a year ago they go and grab Riley Leonard from duke to come to Notre Dame seems on the surface a great fit for the Irish what do you see Trevor I'm not sold yet and I think we'll learn a lot about Riley Leonard and this Notre Dame team against Texas A&M I I kind of think sitting where I am right now that Texas A&M is going to win that game but Riley letter at Duke was steady he was a great leader I didn't see him as a dynamic passer especially deep down the field and they're going to face a salty defense against Texas A&M so we'll learn a lot about how Riley Leonard can can do as a as a passer especially a deep passer because Notre Dame's got good speed on the edges and as a pass rusher one thing I look at is I look at weaknesses of an offense and what is the weakness that Notre Dame has right now it's at left tackle so joal went five overall they're starting left tackle is Dad playing the NFL he's in the NFL now they another left tackle Charles jagas shot to to replace Jo Walt well he got injured early in off season about four days into practice so now you're replacing a guy who replaced the guy now you got to be the guy who replaced the guy that's going to be an issue for a defense led by Mike Elco that has some dogs on that on that defensive line so if there's a weakness on that offense for Notre Dame it's left tackle because of La lack of experience this is a place where you need a cupcake to start right you need to get those young offensive lineman going you need your quarterback who's learning a new system again getting acclimated with a bunch of new skilled people and learning what his offensive line can do cuz quarterbacks if they they know I got a problem over here especially against that matchup of pass rusher they'll know that they got to get the ball out a little bit more quickly they'll have in mind what plan B is if they have pressure over there right off the bat it's a lot better to do that against a team that's not as good as Texas A&M is expected to be and oh by the way you don't think Texas A&M's new head coach Mike Elco knows how to defend his former quarterback at Duke oh that's such a great point I mean look it's a tough situation for them to walk into but transfer pter quarterbacks every year there's a big list of them and again this was different we just talked about a couple of them Grayson Mcall he's he's been playing college football since the Obama Administration he's there at NC State that could give them another run at the at the ACC Championship Kyle McCord out in Ohio State in at Syracuse but Dylan Gabriel and and Tyler van Tyler van djk there's a quiet one for year two of Luke fickle he leaves Miami was just named the starter out there in Madison but it's not just him I go to cam ward he was an Incarnate Word a few years ago he transfers and all of a sudden he brings Washington State to this high-powered offense accounts for I believe over 85% of their offense now he's bringing that talent to a talent organization talent-rich program in Miami I think he can be take them over the top but there's still those coaching questions that can abound of man what decisions will Mario Chris Ball make when the rubber meets the road but the coach combination uh with quarterback is is critical and when I look at NC State they have a chance to really make a lot of noise Grayson Mcall when he was playing at his best at castal Carolina was Unstoppable because he could throw it he could run it he was deceptive he was just he was just amazing at everything last year he got banged up but the offensive coordinator for NY state is Robert and I he was a teammate of mine at BYU I was the center he was the Right Guard right but then he went on to coach and he coached for guys like Rich Rodriguez Mike Leech you all those great BYU offensive coordinators and coaches that he learned the passing game from and he's got the ability to take a a player like Grayson McCall that's got multiple different skills and draw from his experience with those great offensive Minds to put together a scheme that'll get the most out of his quarterback yeah we talked about the ACC earlier and all those those teams that have a chance NC State I mean you you'd better contend for NC State I think what do we count six or seven teams that we sat up here and said could win the conference if you're looking for high school football and you're seeing our beautiful faces well that's because there's weather in Fort Lauderdale uh looks like players have has started to come on the field Bishop Gorman a Powerhouse at a Las Vegas St Thomas aquanus the lightning rules I'm not a meteorologist but players are on the field so we think about a passes but later on five rushes to be physical and the rushes here from Lawrence TOA he's a hold over from last year 28 yards Florida State out of the gate early that's the fifth of five consecutive runs from the 50 yd line on that first drive to establish dominance and how about the trick play for the two point conversion and Florida State was up eight nothing before you could blink you're thinking uhoh is this is this going to be a blowout Georgia Tech had other plans here Malik Rutherford 42 yards on a very impressive first drive for Georgia Tech Florida State Defense looked unprepared and out of position Georgia Tech would score to make it 87 Georgia Tech now down 117 Haynes King was big with his legs today right and and just little things that are Savvy you do a little dip and then run around a guy Jamal Haynes also really good gave the rambling wre 14-11 lead and this this Georgia Tech offense responded quickly 40 seconds left in the half Georgia Tech up 1411 pass interference here called oui angal going for Lawrence TOA that's a running back going deep and this was one of the few times when something positive happened for Florida State on a long throw they would take advantage of it Ryan Fitzgerald 59 yards career long gave Florida State momentum ties the ball game at 14 of piece third quarter game still tied at 14 third and long King rro that was his best throw to the game and there was pressure in his face right behind one Defender right in front of another a perfectly placed pass two plays later King again Trev able to use his legs 21 yds that was a called Draw because the pass rush was starting to get hot so they slowed him down that play they waited for the clock to expire they scored to start the fourth quarter 2114 but speaking of the fourth quarter that's when dju got going he converted on two huge fourth down conversions this one to Malik Benson and you see the safety creeping down this Georgia Tech defense did it all game finally got exposed for it gets it down to the one yd line Williams then next play gets the handoff and just like that the offense was sleeping we tied at 21 a piece just a minute left to play tied at 21 this could have been catastrophic for Georgia Tech yeah it the motion got in the way of the snap and this made for a longer field goal remember their kicker missed a long one earlier in the game so you're thinking Georgia Tech they needed just two or three yards stay in field goal position but then Eric Singleton JR this was huge to get 12 of those yards back and to stay in bounds Florida state had no more time outs they could run the clock all the way down to 5 seconds and how many times in college do we see that screw up with someone get out of bounds but not the case here it's Aiden Burr 44 yd ball game Georgia Tech goes into Ireland and beats 10th ranks Florida State 24-21 here was Joe Tess to on the Call 44 yd away to do it he got it he got it and the yellow jacket did it upset and hand they found themselves a pot of gold at the end of their Irish rainbow what a way to start your season what was going through your mind on that last field goal I was just saying lean on God trust the process you know everybody on the sideline when I missed the first kick the 52 they're like you're going to get the game winner so I was just getting ready for that preparing for that and glad I went in when you think of all that you've overcome tearing your ACL back in high school not playing in 2022 being the backup a year ago how does this feel feels great I mean it dream come true honestly the gamewinner is the best thinging of your life I know you get a lot of time to sit and watch and you wait for your moment what impressed you about the way that your full team played this afternoon I mean we just fought for the full 60 Minutes defense offense played hard and that's what we've been preparing since January for so it's was a good game listen if if you're thinking about looking at Georgia Tech as a double- digit Underdog don't cuz Brent key Gets Ready Tech has won five outright wins as a double digigit Underdog under Brent key two more than any other FBS team since he became interim coach on September 26 back in 2022 and this is a statement Foundation programming win program building win for Brent Kean Georgia Tech for what they did today we're watching this game you saw Florida State I mean they made it look easy and and made it ain't nothing and we're sitting there saying okay well how's Georgia Tech going to respond after getting punched in the mouth and a all they did from snap one to snap end was a establish the line of scrimmage especially on that first drive but they had to weather the storm first that's what happens in any football game that you play there's this early energy and you feel it the passion the excitement the storm but then once that storm weathers you find out who you really are and who they really are what Georgia Tech discovered is that this Florida State Defense isn't what they used to be five of their starters are gone the leadership wasn't there and so you saw a lot of wide openen holes you saw a lot of missed tackles you saw a lot of Georgia Tech offensive players running without getting touched and so that's what was discovered after the first drive for Georgia Tech that we can run on this team and when you run downfield without getting touched for a while why does that happen because the offensive line is dominating this first drive six plays for a touchdown and Georgia Tech tied the game answered Florida State's first drive for a touchdown of those six plays Five were runs but the the pass was a 42 yard screen pass to Malik Rutherford on the right but guess who was involved in that one multiple offensive linemen were out in front wide in the field and they were smashing Florida State secondary guys so the offensive line for Georgia Tech was making huge holes they were sustaining drives they were allowing running backs to get downfield before they were even touched and on that opening drive that first screen pass they were out there causing Havoc as well and a good offensive line can actually add energy to your entire team I remember being a defensive player watching our offense run down the field it gives me excitement it gives me joy it gives me juice to maybe play that much tougher and so that kind of energy from an offensive line coach Brett he former offensive line coach former Big Time offensive lineen himself at Georgia Tech at Georgia Tech he understands the benefit that a strong Run game can provide yeah and the thing is the offens of line what why were they able to do that for Georgia Tech for the five starters back a lot of tremendous experience guys have played a ton of football for Georgia Tech and when Georgia Tech's defense got hit in the mouth to start with they were like hey no problem we got this and then they came out and they smashed back and Georgia Tech's defense responded after they got hit in the M there that's right and what impressed me was how aggressive they were up front Georgia Tech's defense was slashing into the back field in the passing game and in the running game to get tackles for loss which will end drives but while they were doing this they were playing a lot of man coverage behind it and while the guys up front were being super aggressive the guys in the back end were holding up their part they were also aggressive they didn't back off because they were afraid to get beat deep and allow easy throws by ulalele when the pressure was coming no they were all over the Florida state receivers there was nowhere to throw the ball very often while the front was slashing into the back field and some of that is game plan really all of that is game plan if you're going to bring safety pressure I saw at least three or four times where the safety Blitz that means not only do you trust your Defenders but you also say Okay can this quarterback beat me can this quarterback beat us and it wasn't that one down the field pass in the first quarter pass interference was the only true downfield attempt for DJ DJ iang and so I think Georgia Tech went into this game saying we know who we are we know who they are we are physical let's see if we can expose them and and here's the way it shook out first half Florida State started running the ball very well Georgia Tech kept hammering the Florida State running attack as the second half or the first half wore down started to bog down in the second half it bogged down completely and forced djal LA to win the game which he wasn't able to do Florida State averaged five yards per carry in the first half they ended the game averaging just about three yards per carry the Georgia Tech defense got stronger as the game went on by the way I think one of the more notable Parts watching this great back and forth game there wasn't a second maybe it say for that first Drive Florida State where you weren't watching it thinking the Georgia Tech was the better football team and that says something with what Florida state is traditionally what they were last year and now gentlemen when you take a look at Georgia Tech schedule you have to start ser seriously discussing them to be contenders and what we've already discussed is a pretty wideopen ACC the part of it is their style of play I'll go down that second half that second column October 19th versus Notre Dame you think that's a similar style of play that you're going to get and then Miami may be different who knows how good Miami is going to be but this Georgia Tech Team you I get it the rankings say man they have the top five toughest schedule well you just knocked one off imagine if you could do that even more but you look at the schedule and say okay well they've got the opportunity Georgia back to be able to win and maybe make the playoff to go 10-2 11-1 even are they good enough to do it and a lot of people are thinking right now well G maybe Florida State isn't nearly as good as we thought I think the offense isn't as in sync as we thought but the Florida state offensive line is one of the best in the country they stable of running backs is fantastic and this Georgia Tech defense which last year didn't stop much was able to come up and stuff them the Georgia Tech offense was able to run it right down Florida State's throat and even though they lost some important guys to the NFL draft they brought in some beasts in the transfer Portal Georgia Tech I think you have to look at it this way not Florida State's not as good as we thought Georgia Tech is a lot better than we thought and that schedule when you when you talk toughest schedules around the country again that's predicated on the teams that are ranked where they are right now I mean we how many times we do this at the end of the season be like well well they were ranked seventh of the time I don't care they're three and eight doesn't matter what they were at the time here's Florida State schedule not All Is Lost for Mike norell simply for what Trevor was talking about offensive line skill position trying to get some of these portal guys to Jael you look at this schedule right now Memphis is tough because they they've got a lot of players coming back but really the next game that you look at and say ooh that could be dangerous is Clemson October 5th and it would be ultra dangerous if Florida State's players thought that because that Boston College game after this deflating loss in Ireland Boston College might cause some trouble because they are a sneaky good team with Bill O'Brien is their new dual threat quarterback yeah yeah well even that Boston College Point they almost put off the win last year and so Boston College is going into that game with even more confidence I think about the schedule and I understand that not All Is Lost but something has to be found and what that is is leadership on the defensive side of the ball you look at a team that's lost five starters a lot many of the guys to the NFL and these guys were leading the team in pbus leading the team in interceptions leading the team in tackles leading the team in sacks leading the team so what we need or what Florida State needs is someone at practice someone in meetings to lead lead the team lead the defense to say hey what we saw not only in this game yesterday or today or whenever they go and watch the film what we've seen this offseason wasn't good enough let's step up let's lead and that's what's missing therein lies the danger of living in the portal you can plug a hole here and there they did it last year with Keon cmin a receiver what did he do he plugged the hole and became one of championship game falling short to South Dakota State there is hope at Lake Charles that he can be the reason that this team experiences a turnaround after a winless season on the field they had one win because of a forfeit a year ago a third and 10 opportunity for McDow as his Cowboys tra 16 to seven Cowboys 0 for two today here on third down McDow feeling the pressure stepping up nowhere to go Brandon tobert pre-season all conference with his second huge stop of the afternoon third down woes right there you drop in three from the defensive side of the ball that's what you want to see executed five on three if you can continue to get pressure and the way that boo Tober was able to do right there then that's going to set up a long day for the opposing offense as they are now over for three on third down in this game the Texans have a defensive touchdown to their credit they're fifth since the start of last season it was a scoop and score by casayas curs long punt to the 20 and LS bottled up Spring the Texans offense back out top 15 a year ago on the FCS level in points per game and yards per game they are led by two preseason all-americans at running back it's the diminutive 57 Kavon Brittain wearing number four on his chest and Darius Cooper the wide receiver out of St Louis who numerous FBS programs tried to poach in the off season yeah both of those guys are covered players obviously all Americans like you mentioned they're playing like that so far today Kayon Britain has ripped off some big runs Darius Cooper we haven't seen a ton of him quite yet already has a catch on the day look for him to get involved in this drive coming up for the Texans Texans lost their offensive coordinator in the off season Mason Miller now the offensive line coach of the Baylor Bears Victor gabalis lofting this and overthrowing keln Johnson the man can flat out fly but that was a little too far out of his reach that's a missed opportunity right there by that Texans offense whenever you have an opportunity to be able to take advantage of press coverage like that you can't miss on those big shots because that's a big opportunity waiting to happen gabal is transfer from Washington State in his second season that is the start of r tlon just three of eight for 18 yards to start this game thrown to the far side it's low but caught by Darius Cooper and there is the preseason All-American who missed time with injuries last season but still finished with 88.9 reception receiving yards per game number 11 in the FCS that was a long throw interception right there gain of eight brings it down third and long or third and short a long one for them to try to convert right here for the Texans Britain to cabal's left and it goes to Britain and Britain steams forward Micah Davy makes a stop but that after 5y pickup we've now heard Mah David's name on a lot of these tackles we got to see him continue to be that force and that factor for this defense Kayon Britain getting going as well on this dve Drive Texans look like they're moving in a way that they should 10 of 11 offensive starters returning for the Texans and what happened there fzy Ken Johnson was the closest guy and he he was not even in the area cod yeah with this offense we talked to Coach Austin yesterday there are a lot of option routes for these receivers to be able to run so if they read one coverage that receiver can change their route in the middle of the play and then be able to get open or find separation the quarterback and the receiver look like they were just off on what route kelan would be running and resulted in that long incompletion right there receivers run with the coaching South Cole's get open routes really a mesh of the air raid and the run and shoot coming together here in Stevenville Texas Britain sty Marcus White an Ivy League man former two-time all ivy league selection out of Dartmouth makes a stop that's huge right there big guy you unblocked being able to read the quarterback making sure you take care of your responsibility first he ensures that and then finds a way to get Britain down in the back field for a no gain brings up third and long for the Texans offense [Applause] [Music] now gabalis with a clean pocket the razor Focus over the middle to Darius Cooper not a big window there but completes it for 16 yds we talked a little bit earlier about what it means to have five returning starting offensive lineman well they gave him the time to sit comfortably in the pocket whenever you have time in the pocket you can deliver strikes like that for a 16 yard game for the first down gabalis to throw again now he's in Cooper make you miss oh lowering the shoulder as well out of St Louis showing some of those Luther burden likee moves again this is the expectation get the ball to this man preseason allamerican just find a way to get it to him he hadn't been involved prior to this drive now we've seen him make several big plays 14 yd gain right there and now the Texans pick up the tempo Britain a long mesh and Britain is dropped behind the line and Simeon Mitchell makes a stop Mitchell one of the newcomers for this Cowboys defense that needs help 118 overall last season in scoring defense 111 overall in Total Defense and that was tackle for loss number four for this Cowboys defensive Squad cabales is looking Cooper's way that falls [Applause] incomplete that Rhythm there seems to be just a little bit off right there a little bit of fatigue may have been a factor remember that heat is definitely a part of what makes that fatigue happen so much earlier the amount of rotation and substitutions that we've seen early on in this game have already been noticed we'll see how that plays out on this next play as they try to pick up another third and 10 opportunity ballis went for 344 against MCN last year in the opener just got 58 so far slinging it sidearm style to Kayvon Britain and Britain's going to be close to that first down marker right here you see him go through his reads he has all day to be able to deliver the strike finds his check down guy Kavon Britain now it puts you in fourth and one it looks and appears as though the Texans will go for this attempt fourth and a long one to get Daryl Kelly the running back cabales has become more involved this off season in the Run game mid90s on this Turf tough to be out there this long for the M these defense absolutely they're wearing down then that was the fourth down conversion keeps the ball in the Texans hands what a great pickup and a block right there plate number 12 with the drive shot to the end zone how did he do it kayn Johnson just like his PS BJ back in the day in Austin like father like son 26 yds 101 missed on this opportunity on the very first play of the drive well guess what kelen says I am still open throw me The Rock I'm going to make a play and that's exactly what he did there as he finds his way into beyond the South End Zone open before the start of last season and FY there's a new basketball arena going up across the street looks like it could host an NBA team yeah the Event Center it looking like it is coming up nicely the renovation done across the entire Stadium this is A1 whenever you start talking about facilities here located in the state of Texas and you can just feel the energy here on campus electric to say the least short kick and that will be fielded at the 2 seven yd line so another opportunity here for Clifton McDow to get something going for this MCN offense we saw the opening possession of the game McDow lost to Fumble came back strong though that long touchdown pass to Jamal Levi since then been moving the football but haven't been able to sustain the drive yeah the penalties that were key of that last Drive of stopping them which would have put them in that third and short situation now they went into a third and long situation we'll see if they can stay on schedule without preventing themselves from getting caught up and getting be and playing behind the sticks and all eyes are on him just saw his head coach g g has mentioned that McDow gives confidence to the offense the defense and the staff he makes him believe they have a shot McDow following the block from trante citizen can't get that far as tolver makes another stop so good to see him in a good head space it's been a tough off season for this young man it's incredible to see the plays that he was able to make we talked about it preseason uh conference player not even starting yeah but finds a way to be impactful on the field and you saw it show up right there as he was able to Corral in Cliff to mcdal for that no game in the span of two weeks this off season lost both of his grandmothers that were very influential in his life he was in a pretty dark place but Tyrone Nicks is defensive coordinator they've puted heads before but they really solidified their bond in the way that Nicks helped over process those emotions and nicks takes so much pride that this program is not afraid to express themselves even though the game of football is such a masculine game tobert needed him and nicks was there for him that's the reason why you see so many commit to this program and stay committed within this program he's a shining example of that third and seven for McDow McDow slips one sack attempt and it is picked off Omar emans that how you make your debut for a program he was a ball Hawk at Mississippi Valley State where he was allame last season season his first big play here in Stevenville right on Q we just talked about Tober in his impact that he's already had last play was able to bring down Clifton McDow for that no gain now you look at him one-on-one with the tackle he finds a way to get around be able to force the pressure for Clifton McDow not to be able to set his feet and then whenever the ball is thrown High tips and overthrows the DBS always are looking for that opportunity to come down with it and Omar is no stranger to interceptions as they come away with another takeaway for this Texans defense we were a little surprised considering he was an FCS allamerican last season he was not listed as a starter in this game and the coaches just brought up the point just give him some time very tremendous athlete needs more attention to detail he had it right there darl Kelly picks up three yards turnover number three from M that's not what you want to see whenever you're coming out for your first game and then obviously trying to make a he was a wishbone quarterback making a name for himself with the receiver spot here at turton going back to the ground with Daryl Kelly why do you think it is a guy like Cooper decides to stay at a building program like this well whenever you talk to coach Whitten coach Whitten has a ton of love for his players he has a ton of love for this program and what he's been able to establish from a cultural standpoint you see it resonate through all of these players and I think that's the biggest deciding factor to keep them here in Stevenville back on the ground Daryl Kelly Oney pickup Tristan state championships this afternoon they've got number five St Thomas aquinus who's won five straight Florida state titles and looking to knock off number one to open their season hello everyone and welcome to Fort Lauderdale Craig hbert Noah Reed with you Ashley strine is down on the field as well don't get me wrong Bishop Gorman has a lot of talent at the skill positions but you know who never gets enough love that they deserve the Big Fellas up front and Bishop Gorman has three power four offensive linemen we've all heard this saying it all starts up front and that is truly the case for Bishop Gorman they have a saying no line no shine because if the big guys don't get it done nobody else can do their job luckily for them they have arguably the most talented offensive line in the entire nation we will not see the Miami commit SJ alifi to Le today but the Tennessee commit Douglas utu and the Oregon commit Ali Kalani uvalu both of those players will be in action and they will need to Anchor that unit up front and help power that run game well that is a massive offensive line for Bishop Gorman on the other side for St Thomas aquinus it is hard to find a program across the country that's had more success than them you would need to go back to 2014 that was the last class where St Thomas aquinus didn't have at least 10 of their players signed with an FBS program they have been Domin and consistent and this is a pipeline to college and if you don't think you know this program trust me you do because some of their players are on playing on Sundays like Nick and Joey Bosa Dallas Turner and more recently Jordan battle oh the guy who's responsible for that success over the last decade Roger Harriet a graduate of St Thomas aquinus himself in 1995 10th year as the head coach they've won five consecutive Florida state championships under him every year since 2019 19 three games this weekend in Fort Lauderdale all six teams that we are seeing are in the top 12 in doesn't wow you in any one aspect but what you cannot argue is that he has been productive and help lead him to a fifth straight State title rolls to the right on third and four short pass completes said that you weren't so worried about players slipping and sliding but more so there were a couple times receivers were having problems catching the ball holders on field goals and extra points the ball was slipping through their hands as well yeah I wanted to just kind of test the field seemed to kind of have good grip but I think just that ball being down on the chart's going to get wet a little water log second third down of this opening drive for aquinus converted on a third and four earlier they've got a third and seven here D roer motioned out of the back field endorf using the Melvin Spicer hands the football off to Miles Norman who charges down across the 10 before jakai Barber Stops him for six yards and I think you know this is the last really four years they had one into a wide open pocket he's got a large crease in front of him and ushers him s out of bounds on the near sideline at the 26 he picks up 24 and nice job there by Spicer man going to see Defenders are going to start to turn their back to him don't see it he gets a big crease he just takes off he's quite a ways downfield before they're even able to adjust that defense and try to close down on him big gain Spicer the three-star quarterback for Bishop Gorman with a big run there to put them into aquinus territory and trying to respond with a touchdown here [Applause] here that happens again okay launches look into the end zone has a man and it's pulled in for a touchdown LSU commit Derek Meadows one of the Premier receivers in the country there was good coverage here but when you got a Target Noah that is that big at 6'6 200 lb was able to drop first of all excellent protection gives him all types of time he's going to drop it in there even though the coverage is there two Defenders Derek Meadows able to look it in he is one of these players that is as physically gifted as any receiver in the country his production leading into this season is not necessarily matched his measurables this could be his breakout year and delivered right [Music] there a fourstar wide receiver number 21 in this year's senior class headed to LSU first touchdown of the day for Bishop Gorman and they've got a chance to tie this game up with the extra point he continues to make plays like that future updates May see him kind of moving up the charts extra point right through the middle is 7 to7 game after an 83 yd drive that took just a minute and 52 seconds off the clock for Bishop Gorman to tie tie the game was a nice response there by Bishop Gorman first of all look at the protection look at that pocket plenty of time he's able to step up put everything he's got that throw in really nice job there by Spicer with the touch dropping it in that was a nice throw as it mentioned he had one Defender trailing him that he had the safety coming I had to be right on Target and he dropped it in there 41 yards from Spicer to Meadows I think we could safely say now no that weather is really having no impact whether it rained earlier or not both of these teams have adjusted are making plays yeah after that rain went away we thought with the wet playing field that it might limit the pass game but doesn't look like [Music] it this is Amari Stevens from the five on the return for aquinus it's a great job bouncing off a couple tacklers and he gets out to the 22 to start the drive now for St Thomas aquinus looks like both teams have really settled in over their last Drive each after they both went scoreless their first drive of the game yeah Bishop Gorman though still has to clean up the penalties quite a few Flags here early on for them against a program like St Thomas aquinus and we're talking about amongst the two gold standard type high school programs if one makes mistakes and one doesn't I'll let you guess which one's going to probably win the game right so Andrew andorf and the aquinus offense back out in the field tied at seven three and a half to go in the first quarter with Stevens in motion and before the snap speaking of penalties we have another delay game offense 5yd penalty still first down delay a game for each team in this first quarter yeah St Thomas Quin said you know what we'll we'll level the playing field a little bit and that's that shouldn't happen out of a transition right I mean that's something you wouldn't expect from a program that's been able to put together five straight state titles toss to Jerry der roer seeking a block in front of him slips through a little bit of a hole and Jet Washington records his third tackle of the game just a four-yard pickup for der roer seen jet being active coming down in supporting the Run he was initially a wide receiver uh and the one thing the head coach Brent Brown I wanted to know before they moved the defense would he be physical would he tackle and he's answered that question and really settled into this position made that transition a year ago and he said he really bought into it this is Jones off the screen pass short gain of just a yard to bring up third and long and I think if this game is tight down the stretch we could see an appearance at wide receiver but he really kind of as you mentioned bought into this development there in the secondary he's a four-star recruit top 20 player in the ESPN 300 junior class had two interceptions in their weak one Victory had two interceptions all of last year match that total in week one of the season this year andorf on a third and long scampers slides by a Defender and he slips down to the 37 to pick up 12 yds he moves the chains on Third and long we spoke to the coaches early in the week they said that this young man has ice water in his veins and you see it here there's nothing there things are breaking down eyes downfield eyes downfield decides to tuck it and run he knows where he needs to go then he gets down in [Music] slides you see those kind of calm cool kind of plays and you can see why this coaching staff has so much trust in him he's converted a couple third and Longs already keeps it and throws it a little bit long of Cameron Roberts the tight ends Ryan bulaki doing a nice job getting in there with some quick pressure disrupting the timing of that play not a ton of offers for Andrew endorf just Wagner North Carolina A&T and Roger Harriet the head coach said the the lack of recruiting he is not envious of his other teammates that are he shows up and does his job as the leader of this team every day the roer's out to the 42 he gets five yards James Carrington the fourstar defensive tackle makes the stop oh if he can put together a season like he did a year ago go you know there's going to be they kind of alluded to this as well there's going to be a team down the stretch that's going to be in need of a quarterback and again he may not have Elite arm strength he may not wow you in all these physical testing type ways but to play at the level in high school football that St Thomas aquinus does and to be successful says a lot this is Der roer to the left and he got stopped in his tracks by Landon mccom the three star linebacker who's going to Stanford next year nice job coming up not giving that edge making the tackle trying to bounce you're going to see number 11 just lower his shoulder beautiful tackle there coach Browner described him as physical tough and makes plays in space that's exactly what Landon momer just did return Watson K of Watson back to turn the punt for Bishop Gorman calls for a fair catch near the 22 34 yd punt only 10 on the field that [Applause]
