U S Open fans make feelings clear after Jessica Pegula throws racket

US Open fans make feelings clear after Jessica Pula throws racket the crowd didn't allow Jessica Pula to lose her cool at Louie Armstrong stadium and it ended up being a comfortable win against Sophia Kennan on Thursday New York Jessica Pula was met with a huge Ovation after defeating fellow us tennis star Sophia Kennan on Thursday but she had the fans to thank for helping her through a tough match pigula threw her racket in a moment of frustration during the first set before being reminded by the fans who was the home favorite Pula will now face 21-year-old Jessica boes in the third round of the US Open with her next opponent recording a shock win against Katie Bolter it looked like Kenan would advance past Pula during the early stages but the veteran quickly gained control after a clear statement was made by the crowd Kenan was dominating as she took a two to zero lead in the first set and although she was broken back it was clear who the stronger player was after being broken again pigula found found herself facing two break points with the first set on the line pigula threw her racket hard onto the ground after glancing toward coaches Mark nolles and Mark merline and the crowd was silent pigula had the largest cheer entering the court and those inside Louie Armstrong Stadium could sense something needed to change the fans started cheering pigula to motivate her and bring her back from the edge and suddenly the momentum shifted Pula saved both break points and won that game before the set eventually went to a tie break Pula took the tie break 7 to4 and now Kenan appeared to be on the ropes the second set was very different and Pula Cruis to a 6 to3 score to book her place in the third round despite never reaching the final four in any Grand Slam Pula remains a fan favorite and is extremely well respected by her fellow professionals she's extremely popular at the US Open due to being from New York although slightly further north than most fans realize Pula is out of Buffalo New York some 600 km away but is still grateful for the connection she feels with the people of Queens the furthest Pula has gone during a US Open is the quarterfinal stage which was accomplished back in 2022 the experiened pro has now knocked out two fellow us stars to reach the third round after previously beating Shelby Rogers in straight sets I just get Juiced up to play Americans Pula said after eliminating Kenan on Thursday while there was no remorse after beating Kennan Rogers has been a longtime close friend of pulas since they met during the Juniors an emotional Pula said after her first round win we grew up playing Juniors together playing the same sections together and now we get to play on Arthur Ash Stadium bab news
