snads a couple weeks in a row missed Cuts gotta feel good to play well the first round it's been coming you know I've been playing good at home and been making some dumb mistakes the first couple rounds not putting rounds together and just kind of rust you know hadn't played competitively for you know like nine months I had off so um I knew there was gonna be a little learning curve coming back and it took a little longer than I wanted to but um finally able to put around together today that I knew was coming and it was nice to see some putts go in and kind of have an easy stress-free round where I hit the ball really well didn't do anything poorly all day so it's nice to have one of those rounds you talked about it at Memorial but can you kind of just take us through kind of what you've been through the last year the surgery and everything to come back yeah you know I had a I had a sternum injury I've had for 2016 in 2016. so I've been dealing for a long time and kind of doing some stop gaps to kind of let me be able to play and got the point where my quality life and my career was not going to mesh so um made a decision to have surgery um on my sternum and I went around and saw a bunch of her Specialists and found the guy in Nashville who'd done done one of these before a guy in Steve McNair quarterback for the Titans and so felt comfortable with him doing it so they take a bone out of your hip and kind of cut your sternum straight across wide open and put half the bone in the lower half half the bone in the upper half and kind of pop it back into place and so uh kind of like a Lego snapping back into place so they snapped it back into place and kind of fingers crossed it worked when they did it and luckily so far I haven't had any pain you know I felt really good I haven't really lost in any Mobility or anything and um so now it's about me kind of putting the time in so it's been great and I'm excited to be back here out here doing what I love to do at mirfield you talked about kind of just jumping back into the deep end uh how has that gone the last couple weeks I mean you said you're paying free but what just since then how how is it all reacting yeah it's golf right you're gonna I knew I knew coming back was going to be a lot of excitement it's going to have a great attitude everything's gonna go as good as it could possibly could and then there's going to be a lull after that just kind of lack of competition lack of plan and uh I was anticipating it it's never easy to go through it and uh hardest thing is making sure you stay positive knowing that when you do turn around you're able to take advantage of it and um just kind of a lot of hard work you know a lot of pitting balls and practicing when I'm home and missing cuts and going home on the weekend practicing my tail off and so um so one thing I know to do to get better and so it's hopefully kind of all the work is kind of paid off and and ready to go now start playing some good golf what was the original injury to the sternum uh it's called Uh unstable manubrium joint is the actual technical term um pretty much you have a joint in the middle of your sternum that uh kind of flexes and bends a little bit so something happens to it it can you have a little bit of Mobility mine was kind of separated and for lack of a better term it would come back together but it was pretty much a broken sternum when I started hitting golf balls and so uh just it wouldn't allow me to practice or play I could kind of manage it with you know Tylenol and steroid injections and stem cell injections and PRP injections and kind of get through a month or two without pain and then just come right back so just trying to do the best I can so that's why I decided to have the surgery you had gone to South America for Ohio yeah I went to South America for stem cell injections and I've tried everything at one point or another that was legal Under the Sun you know so uh kind of my last ditch effort was a surgery whether it worked or not was opposite doctors but I mean it's either this or no more golf so decided to give it a go did you ever lose confidence that you would be able to compete at a high level out here eventually yeah you question yourself you know when you hadn't played good in a long time and I just kind of tell myself you know I got out of here from practicing and competing I'm gonna get back if I can practice compete and so it's kind of why I went through the procedure in the first place to be able to put it in time at home and hit balls three hours when he hit balls for eight hours and be out there all day and so uh I've been doing that at home and pain-free and feel good so I knew it happened eventually but um you got to see it you know you need some kind of see a puck go in or see a shot kind of Bounce the right way kind of step on the gas and go you played in the Ryder Cup here your first pro tour victory was here in the Nationwide tour what are your memories of Minnesota yeah it's a great fan base up here you know you love your sports love your golf you know that Ryder Cup's probably one of the highlights of my careers being there that week and seeing um so many great memories from that week you know kind of ending in a long drought for us on the U.S side to win the Ryder Cup unbelievable home field advantage up here you know it was it was a lot of great memories that week so a lot of fond memories here you know first first ever professional win was up here so do you remember much about that summer yeah I do yeah I want to play off be Jeff Quinney in a playoff there um a lot of great memories up here so hopefully I can kind of cap it off with another one this week Brent just wondering if you happen to read the memo last night and just your reaction to it I didn't really I saw it come across my email chain it's more I didn't really read it yet so I can't give you up a detailed response about it okay
