The REAL Reason Detroit Lions Just Signed QB Jake Fromm

all right let's talk about the real reason why the Detroit Lions just signed Jake FR at at quarterback and I've got five things that I think we really need to pay attention to before we get into that though let me know in the comments speaking of quarterbacks were you a Rodney Pete guy or Eric Kramer who did you like better let me know in the comments Rodney Pete or Eric Kramer this is when I first started really following the Lions early 90s it's like let's go even Andre wear like get him in there and that's what happened in 90 91 92 and 93 like they all split time it was kind of a crazy time so let me know in the comments who you like better and who you were kind of rooting for I like I said I was a I was I was uh Eric Kramer but I like Rodney P too but Eric Kramer is who I was I was like again I was young I was young in my fandom so I don't I don't know I don't even know what I was looking at there okay here's why the Lions signed Jake from and I got five reasons number one hooker is out okay he's got the concussion he's going to be out for a while so he is gonna be qb2 hopefully but but again he struggled in the spring he comes back he started to pick it up Ben Johnson and Dan Campbell said hey we put a lot on his plate we expected him to make mistakes but really need to see something and so we just haven't didn't see him all last year saw him just for a minute with the Giants so we just haven't seen him so you can't take the backup quarterback lightly hooker is going to be out now for another week or so we don't know and again he's just missing reps missing reps so even if he's healthy by the time the season starts it's like man he just he hasn't played he has not played a lot of NFL football so that's reason number one had to find somebody else number two sudfeld is really really bad again I got five of these sudfeld is really bad um just to the point where throw somebody else out there just see I mean good night sudfeld sudfeld got to us what last year and he was bad and he's just gotten worse um which is kind of crazy like he he was already not great and he's just steadily gotten worse every time I watch him it's like man that's that's actually a little worse than last time so sfi's really bad another another reason that we signed Jake from is because he was the best available and you think man he's the best available it's like yeah because remember right now every team has 90 men on the roster and they have a minimum of three quarterbacks so that's 90 guys right there just tied up on roster some have four so now you're looking at all those guys and those guys will get cut but they're going to be get getting cut too late in the process where we're going to go into this game this next preseason game with sudfeld only we had to find another quarterback because we don't want Golf out there and we need two quarterbacks but again so you like all go oh yeah Jake from geez he's way down the list on quarterbacks so good for him like to get an opportunity he's probably sitting there thinking I ain't never going to see another NFL field again I'm not in a camp right now next thing you know he's in and but that's why we're like bottom of the barrel no offense to FR and I'll get into FR here in just a second we floated around reason number four we floated around the idea of trading for somebody but the reality is you cannot trade for a third string quarterback because we're hoping henden hooker comes back gets healthy figures it out and he's your guy so you would be trading a sixth round pick a seventh round pick even for a third string quarterback that ultimately you're probably going to end up cutting if all goes well you just can't do it so there goes that you've just you can't trade for them so you had to sign the best available out there then the next thing is Dan Campbell talked about it today it's smarts over physical ability right now need somebody that can pick up the Playbook do a little bit in just a couple of days uh during a game against the Kansas City Chiefs a preseason game but still you got to go out there run some plays so Dan Campbell said that's what he liked about him so Fram was a fifth round pick of the bills in 2020 um he was just released back in this may so he had an opportunity but jease come on um and then couple in interesting things here I'll get to that in just a second but Dan Campbell said that what he likes about him he's a heady guy I can't find it now doesn't matter he's a he's a smart guy so Dan Kim's like that's that's what we need right now we can't be screwing around with um trying to like hey let's teach you the the game no we don't we don't have that luxury so those are the five reasons why we really had to sign this guy now Jake from remember you have to go back to his time first of all he played at Georgia big games they won a lot so they're in SEC Championship Games big bowl games and he's 62 um so he's not like small but he's not he hasn't done much in the NFL at all he's he's only played like two games but he played right away at Georgia his freshman year he played I think it was let me let me pull it up real quick but I mean the guy was playing yeah so he goes in to Georgia and originally he was gonna be behind Jacob een well he gets hurt so he plays right away as a true freshman and again SEC Championship games left and right um college football national championship game um they lose to Alabama in that 23 to 26 but then it's SEC Championship game I mean every game is Big that was that run that Georgia's been on here for the last few years where just like gez Georgia and Alabama SEC crazy so I I just this he's been in bigger moments than he is right now um obviously right it's like pre-season game so my point is he could be something better than what we have right now and that is what I'm really looking for I'm not I'm not looking for him to take Jared goof spot obviously he's not going to do that I don't even need to be hen hooker I don't even need to be qb2 maybe if this I don't know right never never know but be better than sudfeld that's what we're really looking for here now a couple other things that I think really need to take note of uh as you look at what happened there's a kind of a few different moves that the Lions made so in order to get him on the roster they had to cut Antoine green they had to wave him so he's gonna go through waivers and see if he gets back to the Lions but the way that this works is they're going to wave him and then if he clears waivers he'll return to the Lions on the in and on IR but his season will be over gee whiz so Antoine green was one of those guys fighting for that third wide receiver spot um or that additional one right we know that um you've got we know who our wide receivers are we got one spot we're looking for Donan peoples Jones is not getting the love from the coaches and you don't feel good about that thees Fountain is but this was a big one Antoine green was somebody that we were really thinking he could have a chance so keep an eye on that they signed Jake FR we just talked about and then um couple other kind of encouraging things in addition to the the Lions released um Ike Boer and signed Tai Summers Boer was added just at the start of training camp and his release could be a sign that Christian mahogany could make his way back out of the field soon so again if you're if you're getting released right now it it can tell you a couple things number one it's like wow you're just not even gonna make it what are we doing we're not going to wait till Final Cuts let's get somebody else in here that can at least give us a look give us a chance and so that could be number that could be it or you're thin at a position where you're or you have plenty of guys at a position so chrisan mahogany is still on the nonf football illness list he has finally made his way back into the building but still needs to get in shape before making his way back on the practice field so he's back in the building remember there's this mysterious illness nobody really knew what it was um which is kind of weird right because you're like well is he healthy or like you know we're all just kind of confused by what what exactly that was but let's talk about Tai Summers just for a second Summers is a veteran linebacker and a seventh round pick of the Packers he's played Five Seasons 67 game appearances and he spent most of the offseason with the Jaguars but was released on Sunday so this is this weird we're not at like Cuts yet but guys are getting cut and moved and and teams are kind of shifting their roster around so we saw it as an opportunity to pick up a veteran linebacker okay fine right and again we know what we're dealing with here it's the bottom of the roster the the headliner to this day is definitely Jake from because be better than Nate sudfeld is what we all have to be saying right now because sudfeld um really bad and so if you could be and then you would just feel better like because right now okay Goff obviously is healthy and good and that's our guy um hen hooker I get that you're out but we would like you to be number two but if you're out and we got to go to sudfeld like emergency situation again we're not in the season yet but that that's just not where we want to be at all so let me know your
