Iowa vs Illinois State - Iowa College Football 25 season playthrough - Week 1

and hello everyone my name's Thomas aka Mr warper Welcome to My Season preview here in college football 25 previewing the Iowa Hawkeye season in case you can't tell I'm an Iowa Hawkeye fan uh it's really hot in my room because of course it being August in Iowa got a bit of a heat wave got some fun corn sweat going on and yes that's a real thing I do live on a farm surrounded by corn so it's really hot and humid so I'm going to I'm going to go and get the jacket off but you will see this jacket after if we like say if iow State goes down next weekend and Iowa wins we three preview I'm wearing this jacket just a second and I'm back now before we get started on this game as you can see here it's going to be Illinois State at Iowa the Red Birds playing week one here in kinck games on Saturday August 31st at 11:00 a.m. the real one so my plan for this preview is going to be this week just really talk through my my record plan I've got a little halftime break idea I'm talking about food for the weekend uh and then uh after that in week two and subsequently uh bringing on guests particularly my friend uh Patrick aka Mr Fusion uh we've done Sports and different you know podcasts and stuff together over the years he's a big Texas Fan and week two has a big Texas game going down uh Texas Michigan and then obviously Iowa Iowa State so two big weekends for schools figured maybe have him come on on my stream it's the same handle but I'll be I'll be putting the link down in the description as well so if you like that kind of thing on top of the general nerdiness if you can tell by my tra my channel you know I'm a kind of a jack of all trades nerd uh hit that subscribe to follow come on over to Twitch if you would like but you don't have to if you're just here to watch what I think about the season for Iowa I've got my record prediction ready to go as well as col triple 25 So speaking of I should probably put my controller on the right side and uh then let's get into the game uh oh no no no go back shoot go back thank you we're going to do Varsity I'm going to be tweaking the settings as we go because I'm not you know like I'm not a wait that say number 13 I don't know this is a creative fan like you know they have their team Creator event type exhibition quick presentation uh we'll just's do exhibition because I don't need you know I don't need everything even teams off quarter length we'll do 10 do 10 minutes accelerated clock on and then like 12 seconds and then we'll put the what it noon because of course it's got to be noon you know Eastern just like you can't you just put it in central come on like oh you know these teams are in the central time zone but and it should actually be quite clear this coming Saturday it's going to be a great weekend for Labor Day weekend all right so I think all the settings are good let's advance to the game and if you have any suggestions for tweaks for the settings for future games obviously this is an FCS opponent I wish it would handedly I'm super worried about it for for this game oo I got an achievement from the community oh play a game with any custom School downloader from the down download Center and I will put the handle that I downloaded this from uh in the description as well so we'll see how things go if I like this roster I'll definitely include it okay and we're back in case you notice this the scene changed my Elgato completely crashed and I've had to reboot things a few times so now we're trying it all baked into OBS instead of split for editing purposes which is what I wanted to do wanted to do camera OBS Elgato to record the game but the Elgato 4K app really does not like my current Hardware so I don't know if it's an app problem or a hardware problem so let's see how far we go this time I think we got roughly 5ish minutes of footage there at the intro I'm changing the only setting to the quick presentation to see if that'll get rid of the just give me the game oh my goodness this will still be edited down but man what I was saying I'm excited this season ree Davis I don't want to hear you anymore I want I just want to be able to skip the intros for games is there a setting for that have I missed that I don't know hopefully the game's not too loud because right now I can't split things out at least I don't think I can let me double check my settings um where's my Advanced Audio properties Elgato oh I got it will be on a separate track let's get it off track two now it should be editable hopefully okay I'm going to take a quick pause to pause and restart the recording just to make sure the recording settings are affected and we'll come right back okay we're back elato is still functioning we're good to go all right we're going to obviously not do a whole lot of gun I know NCAA likes the gun we're going to do a lot of single back because that's what Iowa likes playing I'm going to try to do that a little bit but I might do coach recommended too we'll see as things go like I said I'm excited for the season there's the drama around Kirk not playing you know coaching in in week one oh shoot I forgot got a flag was talking too much I forgot about The Accelerated clock but uh I don't think it'll affect it too much it is just weird though that this will be Iowa's first game since 1978 without either fry or fence oh going tight end he got it it won't be that easy but uh we'll see how it goes you got to get the tight ends involved if you're I so there but I will say I'm really excited for the new offensive coordinator because there's been some changes in the two deeps I would not have expected Ed if this was just you know run-of-the-mill cark ference as normal kind of deal you know like Kamari M Molton taking over rb1 kind of out of nowhere is shocking to me um so I think it's just a case of maybe some fresh eyes and fresh perspective on top of what Iowa normally does is going to kind of punch above its weight a little bit in terms of really give us a lot of bang for the buck because not a lot needs to change you know Iowa was really down I want to say second or third worst offense in the entire country last year power five or otherwise if they can just get that up into the low 90s with the defense that's coming back I mean my goodness that's going to be a team you don't want to play at the end of the year again assuming of course everybody stays healthy nothing crazy happens injury-wise or nothing crazy happens reing wise like last year's Minnesota game which I still think is one of the weirdest officiating things I've ever seen not because he didn't make a signal he did but because I think the rule is [ __ ] I think it's never been officiated the way it was that day and needs some serious tweaking also I should probably move my camera because I'm cutting off a receiver I want to go top yes I will leave this all in why not we'll put it up in the top corner that should work better go long got it way to go way to go virtual Kade mmir appreciate it Heisman right there Heisman [ __ ] right there and it was Caleb Brown who's not playing in this game because of the ow which I think is the right call you can't be pulling a Ohio State here not you know not suspending your players for drunk driving just because they you think they're a Heisman Contender was it Oly Gordon at Oklahoma State I believe what a [ __ ] show that stuff that kind of garbage should have been left in the 80s kids drunk driving got no business playing the game that's just I can't believe that happened we'll get into the prediction here in a little bit obviously this game I'm expecting a comfortable win obviously nothing's ever easy with how Iowa plays football a lot of lows scoring games you know one maybe two possessions uh so if things get crazy you never actually know but I do think it'll be a comfortable win I if I had to put a score on this week I'd probably go like 287 you know maybe 281 if I had to put a guess on it but that's that's the over I think I think that would hit the over um which it's Iowa so that's not going to happen oh they got one on me I forgot I'm not playing on freshman difficulty I got to actually pay attention a little bit and I'm hoping the original footage from my intro had that yes I am going to be uh streaming future episodes of this play through hopefully with guests playing the other team hopefully it's not just or on my team potentially while we talk shop about football as things happen like week zero Florida State just [ __ ] the bed and it's an international game you know there's only so much you can really take away from it I mean was it two years ago Northwestern wins against Nebraska and Ireland and then doesn't win a game the rest of the season like who knows and then that Nebraska team goes on to be the greatest three and nine team of all time with how many one score losses holy [ __ ] but uh so like I said I'm predicting a comfortable win this week we'll get into my full record prediction here between the quarters that's my plan for these episodes content wise uh and then halim I've got some halftime break content and then we'll just get into the game and hopefully be salting things away by then but let's just focus on the Run game right now let's burn some of that clock Kirk faren style use the accelerated clock to my advantage I am hoping for a significantly improved Run game this year because the stable of backs Iowa has is a lot Kamari Molton lesea Williams Caleb Johnson jasine Patterson all really talented dudes that I think are going to have really good Seasons it's just obviously when you have four running backs the stats might not show it up right in terms of who's going to get the carries but they're all I think equally talented dudes oh [ __ ] no holy [ __ ] are we reviewing my D if I was down or not thank you re Davis undisputable indisputable didn't get enough under it all right well we got to see the punter if you couldn't tell I'm a little rusty I have not played this game much in several weeks I've been far too busy playing Dragon Age Inquisition I'm getting ready for Veil guard man I'm excited for that one all right good D good d cover three hard flat lot of Zone as usual from Iowa Craig let's get some defensive pressures here oh that's not good Aaron Graves up the middle Aon graes should have a good season too reek athlete he's an upper classman now looking forward to see what he's got in the tank this season of course along with black on the interior he was really coming on strong at the end of last season particularly against Michigan he played really good but he just didn't have enough in the tank to really keep up and that's really all we have to do to have a decent season just not be the worst on offense there we go there we go all right first quarter is in the books 119 yards for mamir to start the quarter that's quite unlikely to happen in the first quarter of this weekend but let me take a pause menu here so uh what I'm thinking and what we'll see for the season is obviously a win against Illinois state I'm projecting a loss against Illinois Iowa State I think they're going to be a better team to start the season it's kind of going to maybe be the inverse of the last few seasons where Iowa State got a lot stronger as The Season's gone on and we just caught them early before their se you know everything jelled because obviously last year they had a freshman quarterback and Beed um this year they also have a new offensive system but it seems to be not as big of a change um and they have a lot more returning on the offensive side of the football their best unit will be their offense our best unit will be the defense that's going to be a really good game and the oddly enough the road team in the last five or so seasons has done really well in this and it's at Iowa so my my pick is leaning unfortunately Iowa State winning I'd be very happy to be wrong I have a win against Troy I think a win at Minnesota I think that is the circled game on the calendar for the Hawkeyes this season after last year's Pasco and I don't think there's there's no way Kirk com Kirk comes back from Minnesota without the the Floyd of rosale week five obviously byy week six at Ohio State loss week seven Washington win win against at Michigan State win against Northwestern I think they beat Wisconsin because it's at home late season and as long as our defense can stay healthy I think they're the best unit out of every team we Face Sans Ohio State um at UCLA I think that's a win too though going west for Iowa hasn't been great in their history uh by on week 12 and then week 13 at Mar facing the Brian ference advised Maryland Terin I think that's a W for Iowa and then I think Black Friday Matt rule this is another one of those it really depends on how the Freshman QB looks but he seems like he's potentially the real deal and if he is I think Nebraska probably takes that because Rola is the type of quarterback that murders Iowa's defense their shell kind of structure look at the Tennessee game just destroys what the defense can do um especially if the edges aren't getting pressure to can create that pocket pressure uh to chase guys down cuz the linebackers are fine it's just we don't have the defensive line to really put that exterior pressure on the outside of the tackles to force him to make a really long Loop run or make a play into the linebackers we don't have this the Personnel for that for me so I'm thinking a loss there so my final regular season prediction is 9 and three I'd be very happy to be wrong and for that number to be higher but that's my current season prediction so that's my quarter one break done we're back to it as Lee Greenwood plays in the background I was surprised they got the rights for that to play I should have got to him sooner that was a late read cone tell EXA what they were awayan Williams up to 32 yards let's run the a little alert dive which is never going to happen in I's Playbook Kirk would never trust his quarterback actually make that read oh fourth and one no fourth and one formation special teams you know this is no goal line Sak you know that's coming at the 32 yeah got it it's no it's no snate Stanley sneak but it worked I will never forget those three straight QB sneaks against USC absolute perfection all right I form Hayden large leading the way let's go nice run Lea we'll save the rasle T for later we'll run the Jet Sweep I think I think we'll see some Jet Sweep this year once Brown's back on the on the RO you know in the game day roster post suspension that to me seems quite likely first and goal baby let's go coach suggestions let's run that power oh got one got one yard all right let's run some shotgun here actually throwing in the red zone to targets that might be schemed open oh [ __ ] oh [ __ ] oh [ __ ] throw it away throw it away I was hitting the button [ __ ] let's hope we don't see that on Saturday all right got it closer all right got the kick in taking the lead taking the lead all right this is feeling very the score so far is feeling very [Applause] Iowa but uh speaking of my prediction let me know chat or not chat I'm not streaming right now I'm recording stupid I'll stream future ones but I'm not to be very fun to watch Higgins and Jackson oh [ __ ] is that offense wow that might be the first offensive line penalty I've seen in this game that I've been playing that's crazy good pick up good pickup we'll get it back we'll get it back r that strong safety Blitz let's bring W up oh they were trying to screen again to the opposite side the backto back screens I actually didn't see that coming all so Brown was on the return this time legion's going to be doing the returning in real life I have to see about maybe trying to set this up in my Dynasty mode so I can better control the depth charts to better reflect who's actually playing as the season rolls along see if I can get ant there's no way that gets fit in between I'll take it but and are we going to get a playoff no we are not the two-minute warning I am looking forward to the gamesmanship of how they're going to actually make that work in terms of their two-minute drills and the helmet communication lot of a lot of subtle changes happening all at the same time here with college football oh [ __ ] damn another I hope we don't see too many of those this Saturday damn but hey defense is in position to do some to do some work all right black let's let's work [ __ ] did I kick off I kicked off so I do get the ball if I can hold him to at least a field goal if nothing else hey that's a pick hell yeah was that Quinn shy no it's Castro sorry I thought it was 30 I saw a great stat uh Dane Belton was in the same recruiting class as Sebastian Castro Dane Belton is in his third year in the NFL and I'm totally oh great great spin great spin great [Applause] spin I'm not throwing after that pick you know Kirk would not be throwing HB lead all day although the fairness Kirk's not going to be on the sideline get the one we're not getting crazy 17 yard field goal we made him use a timeout kick her deep make sure you know we don't give up any points cuz we get the ball back play it safe it's the Iowa way unless we're playing Maryland well the one time against Ohio State and also that one time at Indiana where it seemed like perin uh oh who was their head coach at the time like had some beef about rolling off the score that was a weird one that seemed like personal that was a dangerous throw like for me that was a if he' put that on the money that was a touchdown calling their timeout I believe that's their last one yep that's their last timeout see if we can get some pressure up the gut all right running clock here we go three buzz bring the let's bring him up get some pressure oh [ __ ] I was controlling the wrong dude TJ Hall you just saved my bacon I was controlling the edge guy I think that was Harris yeah Jamari Harris I thought I was controlling the defensive end C bot gave me a heart attack but we get the we get the punt oh did he get that out of bounds that's an excellent punt got to give it up excellent punt all right so oh it's halftime just about let me see if this punch in actually still works well I didn't want that hey everyone it's halftime so part of my halftime break will be something I'm asking in my videos and it'll be something I ask guests as well like what's on the menu for your game day week U either for the actual games you want to watch and then what's on your actual physical menu so for me obviously Iowa I am interested in I believe it's UC USC at you I want to see how the Trojans look before you know they actually kick off conference play because that's a heck of an opener let me look at the actual week one schedule it's been a bit since I looked at that to see what is all on the docket scores for the top 25 anything interesting besides oh Clemson at Georgia should be a really solid game too to to kick off you got Penn State West Virginia though Penn State Should roll in that game so I don't know how interesting it'll actually be from a viewers perspective um Miami Florida we'll see how that looks you know that's in the 230 window um the Penn State game that's on that's an Iowa's window same with Clemson Georgia so I don't know how much I'll be watching that that's definitely a probably a side monitor view here I have the three monitors in front of me Sunday is the US the USC LSU game so it's all to itself I'm very much looking forward to that and then I want to see on Monday on Labor Day how does Florida State respond after the loss cuz if they lose to Boston College o you could maybe if they go on a tear you could forgive the international loss to a conference opponent sure but not if they lose to not excusable we'll have to see what happens there so let's get back to the regular view there we go move the mic back down oh I did kick off to start right I was mixing which I've started this game twice I was getting the first one in my head well at least we stopped the score oh [ __ ] I completely whiffed that lane completely whiffed it I might have to go ahead and turn the settings down in terms of time because I don't want oh my guy just dove in the wrong direction uh I don't want these to become super long videos I'd like to keep them digestible bite size 30 minutes or less videos this is going to be longer than 30 if I'm doing the math in my head between the intro and this recording Aaron Graves nice tackle give the old bear hug so the defense the line is just decent this year let those linebackers Feast it should be a solid year defensively and if we just get some mod Improvement but it could be a case of we get better but the record gets worse because other teams you know it's not your improvement is not a vacuum other teams are also improving so it really just depends on the rest of the teams in conference we will I think be favored at least to start the year in every game we play Beyond Ohio State then Wisconsin Nebraska ones I'm not sure and Iowa State it really oh Aaron Graves coming through my dude I didn't even have to control him he's just kicking ass taking names in the middle oh Jay Higgins giving the pop now you think you come over my middle kind of hit that's a scary thing [ __ ] now they're in the go for it territory I'm going to go safe man no chance get that [ __ ] out of here take it back to Illinois we don't want it Illinois state is that a normal Illinois it might be I've driven past oh get that heal that block 70 seal that block and that's a touchdown all right just remember to bleed clock we're not looking for anything crazy and if you see me doing any Cuts here here it's just cuz I'm getting through time I'm done with most of what I was going to say oh I didn't talk actual physical food so I'm going to throw up some b-roll here I do grilled Buffalo WIS and they're fantastic it's just it's less mess than than frying I could fry but obviously it's a lot of extra oil you know and it's just a lot of work if you're doing it at home so grilling is really my go-to when I'm doing my own but they're fantastic so it's a grilled Wing you do three pounds for me bone in fresh if you can thaw's fine if you're doing bag yeah out of frozen but make sure they're thaw if you're doing that you make sure they're paded nice and dry like real dry leave them in the fridge chilled kind of dry on a wire rack mamir taking off once that's done salt pepper little little drizzles of oil salt pepper right on the grill maybe garlic powder if you're feeling you know you like garlic grill for about 10 minutes aside on low you know until they're done done basically uh nice and golden brown and done at 165 while that's happening you take your buffalo sauce I do a garlic a garli [ __ ] I thought I got the a off I do a garlic uh buffalo sauce I do Freds buffalo sauce garlic with extra butter some unsalted or salted butter depending on your salt preference honey Henne chili powder and I think some salt and pepper and I don't think salt I think just pepp in the actual oh [ __ ] right I saw that Blitz coming and I should have a uh do we'll do a PA we'll do the play action then you bring that all together while your wings are finishing as soon as they're off the grill toss them in the sauce and enjoy I try to get him timed up right for kickoff so I can just stick oh [ __ ] great that was a great read that that end did not bite in the slightest okay let's take that field goal did he sneak it in snuck it in I hate kicking in this game I can't get the angle right I've missed quite a few short field goals but we'll take the field goal go up nine points take the two-score lead I will take it now watch I get the score actually right that'd be wild I did that a couple times in my old playthrough if I remember right back in the 2014 play through let's play Ethan her Aaron Graves is having a day my dude it's tackle six for him ohte Craig no Jay Higgins no tell Craig if you make that read that's a six-yard loss you can't throw that away we'll substitute we're playing it safe substitute the injury return remember it's ouen not Caleb Brown he's suspended I don't know if that'll hold up once he's back that'll be curious to see cuz they're both that kind of returner and Caleb Johnson is going to be returning kicks which I did not coming that was stupid luck that I found a hole on the counter play that worked really well for us last year those counter runs a few things offensively that actually worked really consistently it's a different Zone blocking scheme that we using run him [Applause] over it's your time to shine my dude set that post route that corner route oh [ __ ] he didn't bite I thought he was coming up to take the running back good Zone play there good Zone play for scoozie that's going to be a fun name to hear people say o right at his feet come on dude you got to make a play make a play on the ball don't because obviously Johnson's not in this game he did not opt so Caleb Johnson's not in college football 25 huhd I don't recognize the name there's Le I'm looking forward to him having a great season we're bleeding that clock pick this up pick this first down up oh no no no we're going to play goal line and we're going to go half back that' be a very long field goal and they're not doing they're not in the goal line defense this is bad AI they would absolutely be calling a timeout and putting in the goal line in real life it ain't broke don't fix it just keep running going to right now they've been able to on it'll be nice to get this you know actually do some light editing I don't really do that much these days beyond the podcast I run just because mostly what I do these days is live streaming I mean you got to kind of in practice edit on the fly but it's not like actually editing you know getting in making sure the audio levels are good putting in you know any kind of things you want on the screen and any cuts and anything like that even that's just light work you don't do that much anymore all right let's take it good throw away good throw [Music] away oh another yeah my money on conference picks as well one of either Ohio State or Oregon obviously that's not exactly a outside the box pick but one of those two is going to make Indie if everything breaks Iowa's way it's not impossible for us to be the other team but it's probably more I'm thinking Penn State yeah Penn State would be my opposite pick versus Ohio state of Oregon whoever wins at Oregon Ohio State or Oregon that is who going to go on to Andy for the Big 10 along with him think Penn State that's my pick all right we got the two-point conversion coming up to to make the math work and we got it easy thank you Reese Davis for telling me that three scores it is 9:30 at night I can't do math I'm actually shocked so far things haven't broken on OBS I haven't been able to record on my Elgato for a long time it just it always freezes but now it's not Aaron Graves dude if you have this kind of season Iowa was in for a special one throw oh play the [Music] ball line out all right third n threw it away really the only play he had we'll take a risk which we don't need to in this case I don't think in real life Iowa would take this risk with the blitz here because you're up three scores and it didn't work which is why real life Iowa would not make that play Phil Parker is not that kind of defensive coordinator late in the game he's going to sit back and just make you beat him up scores like that part of the reason he's one of the best if not the best defensive coordinator in all college football and has been for some time I think he's the best speaking of all time though I am curious if this game depending on how the rest of the season goes is Kirk going to miss this game from getting to 60% this season for his career win percentage cuz he's damn close I think we have to win 10 games for him to get there including a bowl win and that's not impossible but I don't want to bank on another 10- win season for us to get to that to include him he will get win 200 at Iowa this year and this is going to to it won't be Iowa State I think it'll be Troy I'll have to look that up making I'll have to make a note to to look that up here at the end cuz he's already got career win 200 but not at Iowa [Applause] 200 hey that's probably game well not probably it is game I shouldn't even use that word probably one of my favorite players in this game the jet touch pass get the edge block make the spin here we go we're bleeding this clock all the way down the point where they got to start using timeouts here after the two minute warning letting it run all the way to the two [Music] like I said in the comments let me know what your record prediction for Iowa is let me know who you're picking to win the Big 10 in terms of play and Indie and win the conference like I said I'm picking the winner of Ohio State at Oregon that that team plus Penn State in Indie I I don't know enough about each team I want to lean Ohio State but it's at Oregon you know if Gabriel really works out for them that's a great offensive system actually you know what I want to lean Oregon on that one I'm going to pick Oregon and say Oregon Penn State I'm going to put my foot down make a firm pick Oregon Penn State excuse me Oregon Penn State to go to Andy and I'm going to go Oregon to win the Big 10 in the inaugural season for the Pack 12 teams coming in Oregan putting their putting the stamp on the conference to start their tenure as members of the Big 10 that's I'm I'm GNA I'm going to do with that I'm I'm going to put that in my spreadsheet oh he got the edge God the spin is broken in this game all right now we're just turtling up I don't think they're going to use timeouts they're too far down I don't think wait oh because they have timeouts left I'm not getting the quick clock so now I got to physically wait I don't like that looking up KK Bar's record while I'm waiting for [Music] at 196 and 19 so he needs four wins which is not likely to happen until I'm going to say one two three home against Washington that's when Kirk gets win number 200 that's my pick and that's ball game so week one in the books my prediction I'm going to make a simulated score Sim score s score is 24 s I'll have a spreadsheet that you'll be able to see here in fact let me actually bring this over once we get through the game see again you can't skip this which is like just let me get to the end screen please please come on game let me skip this is a there's a couple things in this game I wish number one they able to skip the intro and the outro and there's some UI things that's like they don't come together schematically like there's 13 some teams it takes forever to get through your records when you're trying to sort like stats and stuff why is the team you're playing in Dynasty and Road to Glory not the default why is it national and then you got to alphabetically find your team that that's not good I was right in the middle and you got to like go down and take a while to get to what you actually want that's not not just some baffling decisions like that that take this away from being a great game I think it's just a good college football game for me for my take so far all right we're on the screen I need we'll put this in the background I'll move myself down and then go to turn display on move display up okay and then put this down okay putting this together on the Fly zooming in there we go hey can you see that hopefully you you're able to see everything well um me fix this day of week okay well date the date he's got C off okay so I've got my schedule here you can see here my prediction is a w my sim score was 247 we'll have the actual outcome the actual score and I'll put those up on the screen as we go with this series uh and next week I'm hoping to have either my buddies Fusion or my buddy Nick um come in and talk Texas Michigan um I believe that's week two as well as you know get I'll give them my thoughts on Iowa Iowa State and we'll go from there we'll get the uh simulated scores for that I'll probably have pictures of my food uh from and for what we cooked I'll get their halftime thoughts on what they want to watch and their food and then we'll do that every single week Iowa plays a game so during the bi-weeks there won't be anything uh and then we'll just have 12 individual episodes and or either Indie if Iowa makes it and a bowl game if Iowa has a bowl game or playoff games knocking on all the wood all right I'm going to get out of here back to the scene back to this you all have a uh well hopefully the
