Arkansas Razorbacks Fans will Win AND Lose to the Oklahoma State Cowboys? Is Sam Pittman Good?

Calvin Glenn Alexander and on tonight's episode we got a quick one here tonight but a real special one we're joined by a fellow collaborator on the college huddle Network got Caleb here joining from hogs on the hill it's Arkansas perspective in the house here before this weekend Caleb how's it going yeah it's do good you know we just wrapped up you know you jumping on our show and you know giving that Oklahoma State perspective for us Arkansas fans over here so you know we're happy to come over here and do the same for you guys no thanks so much yeah if you get a chance there um I joined for the last 30 minutes or so of the show and definitely definitely letting my Oklahoma State takes flow there as well but ke want to ask you here we kind of te it up here I gave uh I'll let all the listeners take a chance to listen to you guys and what tips and tricks I gave him to how here's how you can be at Oklahoma State you know here's here's what to do but how could Oklahoma State fans look at it and what could we think to here's the tips and tricks to beat Arkansas yeah I I think for sure for Arkansas you know um Arkansas Razorbacks’ Strengths and Weaknesses would be I I would say lean heavy on Oly Gordon you know he's he's as good as advertised and I mean no matter how good a defense you have you know it's going to be hard to control a guy the entire game you know he's bound to break a run you know at some point and then I I think it would be just testing our secondary I mean we have we lost a few guys to you know whether they graduated ran out of Eligibility or you know got drafted or whatever and so you know I think we've got a young secondary and you know irine Bor that you know is very talented but not as experienced as what we would like it to be and then as far as for you guys on defense I think we just be putting pressure on ton green you know with this being his first season you know coming over from Boise State in the Mountain West to the SEC and you know a you know higher atmosphere if you will and you know he may not be have played in any of these situations before with you know we talked about in in my showco the crowd noise you know how how's that going to affect him you know when he might not necessarily have seen anything like that before you can simulate it all you want but until you get into the real thing it it's going to be different yeah so you know I we dropped a bunch you know of information on your guys show as well too but I kind want to recap a couple of things here as well um Sam Pitman from eleno or or Grove Oklahoma depending on EXA to where you're looking at it um so that's kind of a cool thing but he is 24 and 25 so far at Arkansas what's what's kind of the The Vibes with you know Sam Pitman you know is he you guys like him a lot so far is he kind of on the hoty what are you guys feeling here yeah I I think as far as you know the state of Arkansas and Arkansas fans liked him you know I think it could honestly be 5050 you know ask some people you they love what he's done with the program you know some people think it's it's time to go but you know from my perspective you know I like what he's done with the program you know last year yes was a bad year based on you know expectations we had um you look at what he did you know he came in and really took the job when nobody else wanted it you know it was after the the terrible Chad Morris era um you know you didn't really know where to go nobody really wanted to come take over kind of the the the fire that was left behind he came in you know and that was around Co year but in the next year or two took us Oklahoma State Cowboys’ Game Plan to a nine1 season you know and that it was kind of the peak and then you had you know last year happen high expectations you know you have KJ returning you got rocket Sanders coming back you know all these things that seem to be falling into place for us to have a decent year and then horrendous offensive line play and you know you know a change in offensive coordinators and schemes happened and you know things went downhill pretty fast but I think the consensus here in Arkansas is you know it is a hot seat year for Pitman and I think you know it's one of the things that if we don't see improved play especially in the offensive line because that's what he's known for um I think he's got to win seven eight games to get a bowl game to really keep his job here and you know I I would hate to see him leave but but you know you're in the SEC and you know this fan base wants to win and have success I mean we've had success in baseball and basketball over the past few years and you know football's been kind of left behind in a sense yeah I gota say the the other fun I guess info is you say he's an o line guy I mean Sam pitman's entire like coaching career so far besides being the head coach at Arkansas he has been either the associate head coach and offensive line coach or just the offensive line coach going all the way back to 96 when uh he was a coach there for the offenseive tackle and tight ends so that's that's the last time he wasn't just the o line coach is um he's bringing in Bobby patrino in in for this year though on the offense is that something where you guys were huge fans with come in the season I know seen one game Arkansas P left so I'm not necessarily asking a bunch of hey what you think about the first game by patrino calling it because we talked about it for a while just a couple minutes ago it seemed vanilla to you guys but it's also any takeaways from the first game and how patrino you know Dr up some plays yeah and I think that's another one that that's divided the fan base you know you had you know a lot of people that wanted back and hated to see him go you know 10 years ago but then there's still some people that think you know regardless of you know what happened however however long ago was you know he doesn't deserve to be back and you know there's been people that I've been told you know the old adage of Time Heals all wounds it's been 10 years you know he's you know you know earn forgiveness or you know but I think there's a lot of people that think he still has a lot to prove here I mean he comes in and I think after last year you know that was the smartest thing to do as far as a splash hire because you don't want to get rid of Pitman and have his buy out after we were already paying Dan enos's buyout after firing him midseason last year so you already paying one buyout and you Is Sam Pittman a Good Coach? know the other question that I posed to people that said oh we should have gotten rid of Pitman last year who you going to go out and get who are you going to go higher that's going to be any better than what what Pitman is and then also start over you know the cycle again of having to recruit your type of players and you know change your scheme up and things like that so I think that was probably the best higher that Arkansas could do for themselves but you know I think he does have a lot to prove he he loved Arkansas you know we have a you know football Athletics Center on campus that he designed and you know he worked with contractors and designed himself and a lot of people call it the The House That patrino Built but never got to saw because you know he got fired before it was completed yeah is it is interesting when you come in with the guy with that controversy but one thing you said there is something that I almost immedately want to have something to say back to about who else he going to go get they La last year Oklahoma State fans know this we lost two straight games um granted one was at home to South Alabama where he put up whole whole seven points uh and it just was really bad the week before then we beat Arizona State at Arizona State and the week before then open up the season we beat univers Central Arkansas which I'm I'm not sure how they Faire in your guys's world but you know you guys just played uapb we played in 2022 oddly enough um so I'm not sure how they all figure in but you know we said hey the sky's falling gundy's not really in in the nil doesn't really want to deal with the transfer stuff you know all out on it and we're also playing three quarterbacks basically for that you know first three games where it worked out okay for the first two but you'd like to put it more than 27 on you know Central Arkansas and then you definitely want to put put up more than 27 against Arizona State so then when the third game comes around we place out the Alabama and you're still playing three different quarterbacks Oly Gordon gets the ball nine times uh just looks bad overall and then we lose to Iowa State granted at Iowa State but by seven who did not have a great year last year either I I I was going hey sky's falling what are we going to do we got to get somebody else in the door who can we get besides Gundy it's got to be some change and and what you're saying just Rings extremely true who else you gonna go get like who's who's better you guys brought in the offensive line associate head coach from Georgia you know to come coach at Arkansas you would figure that would you know transfer a lot a lot of stuff over and really help out but it'll take time and of course that's what Gundy has taken here at Oklahoma State How Mike Gundy Has Led Oklahoma State how how do you guys as Arkansas fans see Gund do you think he is you know on a a pedestal do you think he's an average head coach or would you take him tomorrow if you know if if he was available yeah I think it's one of those things and you know we've talked about about this with people you know it's one of those things where you know I've heard his name Flo around for Arkansas you know a few times the job's been opening I think it was Flo around back before we hired Chad Morris and you know things like that and you know I think some Arkansas fans would take him in a heartbeat and you know I think it's one of those things where you know at Oklahoma State and the program he's built you have continuous or very similar success every year whe like there's no super high highs or low dips where you know it's just absolutely terrible like you know last year we won four games where you guys are consistently you know winning six seven eight games getting to some b games you know and that's you know keeping the fan base at Bay you know from an Arkansas perspective which is what we want we want to have just maybe some consistency and you know we had that a little bit with BMA when he was here but I think the big thing with him was he couldn't never really get over that hump of you know we would have a good line we'd have a good season but you know You' lose those tight games or you know in the second half games would you know you'd be you know winning those games and then teams would just just creep back in and you know it was like the phrase of he didn't really keep the gas the foot on the gas in the second half and tried to play that Grind game Let's hand off the ball 20 times and try to run out the clock gotcha yeah that's uh I mean I mean that's uh it's kind of kind of interesting you know overall just because Gundy Gundy seemed like he flirted with Tennessee and maybe some you know other type of head coach openings maybe the NFL but that all seems just so so long ago but also such a such a rumor mill type of deal um how that all came up that whenever Gundy kind was doing that stuff I went maybe maybe he's maybe he's just looking for you know some different things on the contract then he has some off the field stuff with tra hubard that kind of was a different contract deal you know he gives back some money um you know now he's in situation now where I think he's beloved by most and his flipped the script completely on his image and stuff comparatively to where we were a year ago at this time um with that being said What Both Teams Need to Do to Win here game kicks off this Saturday 11:00 a.m. on ABC course Central Standard Time um who who's your pick you know biased or unbiased whatever you think uh what what do you got the score yeah you know it's like I said on my show going into this game before our first game I it made me nervous you know I I thought this was a game where it's GNA affect our season you know and I said you know as Arkansas fans we got to come in and we either have to you know win the game or you lose it close and I think it's one of those games where it it's like you know you said on our show Vegas is hardly ever wrong and you know you're sitting at the you know spread for this game being around seven to eight points and it could dip closer you know as you get closer to Saturday and kickoff but you know if I had to say right now until Arkansas can prove to me that they can come out and win big games like this I would have to say Oklahoma State wins this one I think it's a tight game 10 or less I think is what um what happens but you know you never know I'm hoping maybe you know what all Arkansas fans want to see is Bobby patrino comes out and you see glimpses or you you see the Bobby patrino offenses of old that can come out and score and put up points and then I think we have fairly good enough defense to be able to at least contend and you know get some stops enough to you know if we were to win to help us do that all right well well Caleb uh I like Final Predictions and Game Preview what I hear it all sounds good by me said Oklahoma State wins even if it's by one
