UCLA vs Hawaii: Betting Breakdown with Wine Time!

discuss this game here UCLA on the island at Hawaii Hawaii week one this going down August 31st 4:30 pm on the west UCLA minus 13 and a half with the new coach chain Chip Kelly is out of there we bring in desan Foster first year coach was a running back coach steps up from inside the organization he gets seven back on offense five on defense last year they were doing about 26 and a half points on offense and they were giving up 18.4 on defense the defense was a mine last year uh only allowing 81 on the ground and uh two 221 in the air which is uh magnificent for a defense right there now also deshan Foster brings in uh the enemy from the NFL you guys know this guy from the Chiefs he's coming in at offensive coordinator and new DC because of the defense they needed they needed a new uh DC the defensive uh DC moved on to uh the other side of town and uh that brought up the outside linebacker coach and uh aaka Malo I'm sorry I'm not a good name with names at all I do much respect but um this UCLA teams got their work cut out for him they're basing the Hawaii team Timmy Chan third year um he's implemented the running shoot here he gets eight back on offense seven on defense um he gets back his quarterback who's been efficient so far but you know he's kind of mild compared to some of the talent that they had at ha whitei when you talk about passing and running but um the offense last year um averaged 21 points and and was upside down gave up 32.2 on defense so this team needs a lot of help but there has a lot of Hope in this um Hawaii team this year people are standing behind the second year the run and shoot and uh they think this Hawaii team's going to get it going they got four turnings on the defensive line as well and then they add um Jamar cinka from USC so they got a little defensive front which is what they known for in Hawaii but um still you know I don't believe in the run and shoot teams that um that don't respect the defensive side of things uh I they're trying to bring Hawaii back to what they were in the past running the scoreboard up in the middle of the morning over there on the island and uh with the guy Timmy Chan he's a guy to get it back going that way but uh I don't think that equals success in the long run um the most successful person I've seen to run a team based around their offense and just let the defense go was your boy Chip Kelly when he was at Oregon that's about the best he did and he at that time he came up with some uh with some offensive strategies that just took took some time for them to figure out but um where you at with this game right here UC see are you going by the way you gonna take a to White to go see a squad yeah you know my buddy actually he lives in Honolulu and he told me he's a UCLA fan too he moved out there a couple years ago he's like hey come out you know um unfortunately I don't think I'm gonna be able to make it this trip but they played there in a couple years down the line so I'll make it for that one but uh yeah big boss in this one um yeah we talk about Hawaii first you already mentioned Tim changen uh he's GNA return as a head coach here um he's bringing back Braden shagger who comes back a four-year guy he's kind of started the last couple years he got hurt a couple times but he's been the starter when he's been available um coming off throwing for 3500 passing yards at 26 touchdowns they return almost everybody uh their whole you look at their depth chart man and it's a lot of guys that have been there they don't go hit the transfer portal too heavy I think they've got two portal guys maybe three in there um but you know they always fight you know they always got those late night games but in reality it's really only 6 PM out there um they could really they could stun some teams I've seen it happened definitely in the past but I'm not super high on this Hawaii team going into this season I do like their quarterback brain shager um but I just don't really believe in the athletes he has around him um his offensive line struggled a lot last year as well so um we'll see about them I had their win total at over four and a half minus 160 which means the books think that they're gonna probably win five or six games this season um haven't tooken a deep dive at their schedule in the Mountain West but definitely will um we're going to move over to East CLA side now um the DeShaun Foster era begins uh boss I was tell you a little bit offscreen get rid of Chip Kelly I was stoked um you're kind of surprised on that um I think his role is perfect over in Ohio State what he's doing there he's running the offense there he's got pretty much he doesn't have to hit the portal he doesn't do the nil deal money it makes sense for Chip he's a great guy um great coach great offensive mind loved him at UCLA I backed him you heard me last year backed him every single game love chip um his postgame interviews always he wanted to go out there for UCLA it seemed like he was really um a UCLA guy he never really got over the hump though he had all the talent he had um he leaves Foster in good hands surprisingly enough not a lot of guys hit the portal they lose Colin sh the third string quarterback didn't really do too much in the air last year um so lose him I think there was they also lost you know they lost uh two defensive backs also who went across town and joined uh Dean and Lynn who came over and ran our defense last year um better than I've seen anyone do it in quite some time came in as a safeties coach from the Baltimore Ravens he had NFL experience the guys bought in um he didn't necessarily recruit the guys he had in though he had latu latu he had the Murphy twins he had all the guys he had there um he just really had to implement a plan USC buys him out goes across town buy him a mansion in LA give him all the money he wants he brings his two guys from UCLA over cornerback and a safety that will make an impact over there at USC but we're going to go back to UCLA here um they move up defensive line coach uh akiki Mala Hawaii native um this guy was a defensive coordinator at Washington he trans he I apologize he uh recruited latu latu at Washington and at Washington they told he wasn't going to be able to play because of a head injury he moved to UCLA where obviously enough he was the dline coach he coached him up um he gives him all the praise Lynn wasn't there on draft day um you know but maloa was uh they also grab a former Edge rusher five star his name's a aamu Collins out of Rancho Santa Margarita he went there for about two years in high school he's from the country Ghana he's a physical specimen originally transferred to Miami uh originally committed to Miami played a year there couldn't get on the field due to injuries this guy's a beast of an edge rusher he can get to the quarterback at any time um he's 67270 just a physical specimen shredded um they also grabbed Jacob yusk another Ed rusher from Navy foure starter over there um UCLA always goes for the higher end educational school they have a lot of academic certain standards there um and this kid kind of has it all uh he wants to go the NFL so instead of leaving he ended up coming back transferring to UCLA uh try to get ch to the NFL and with a Kiki Malo I think he could possibly get him there um they bring back quarterback Ethan garbers had a uh was four one as the starter last year in 2023 this is his job this year um the team believes in him the coaches believe in him Eric the enemy believes in him I've watched a lot of interviews of Eric benmy who also got hired as the offensive coordinator for UCLA see a lot of high highly TI of things about the guy um so I think he's going to be perfect for the offense they also returned running back TJ Harden who probably should have been the starter last year over Carson steel who left for the NFL um this kid has it all he has every tool in the shed big fan of his um I'm GNA be rooting for him all year I really think that he's gonna go in the NFL draft this year as a junior I think he's gonna have a big year at 1300 rushing yards 300 receiving he's gonna have a good year um as long as he can stay healthy you're return Jay Toya defensive tackle um he almost left to USC but a donor came out from UCLA offered him a couple 100K to stay he stayed because he needed some inl money we gave it to him I think he's going to be a big pick this year we also grabbed a couple transfers from Notre Dame and KJ Wallace uh and uh and oh it was just KJ Wallace and they also grabbed an offensive tackle I'm apologize from Notre Dame uh both played a lot of snaps over there come from a good program um where they're highly respected those positions um but yeah I'm I'm actually high on this UCLA team you know I hate to say it because I'm a fan of this team but I see their win total at five and a half plus money plus 120 I think this team could win six games this season I think they should blow out Hawaii and haw on the island time Le's not going to set them off because they're already on Cali time it's only going to be three hours behind and when they get to that Island they're GNA be ready to play ball um there's going to be levels to this and I just think ucl's Corners Devin Kirkwood um jayen Davies guys that have played a lot of snaps guys that are going to go to the NFL are G to be able to lock these guys down on the offensive side um and as long as Ethan garage can get his Playmakers involved Jay Michael Stan uh we talk about uh what about that big tight end the big tight end Miki mavo yeah so he's a transfer from Oregon 6'5 tight end um play didn't play too much at Oregon but was a four-star recruit he came over last year our starting tight end Hudson uh goes down Hudson houth torn ACL in the summer this kid's gonna get a lot of snaps UCLA always has good tight ends that put up good numbers their quarterbacks like getting them the ball Eric benamy likes getting his tight ends the ball there's a reason why he facetimes Travis felce with all his tight ends and stuff uh during practice and stuff from what I've seen he's got these kids bought into his offense I think the enemy I mean I wasn't a big fan of him in Washington uh last year the way he run ran his offense but the fact is is that he's been around the right players and the rightall minds and he's just he's really developed some really good NFL talent and I think he can do that at the college level I think this is just going to be a stop for him for a couple years um and he's going to go back to the NFL at some point but uh I'm really excited to see what his offense brings this year yeah the only thing that worries me uh with UCLA is the loss of the defensive linemen um without that defensive line support it's going to be a little tougher for the secondary to hold on in some of those cases a lot of those sacks a lot of those uh tackles for loss really plays to the to the good part of the defense so that's why I I agree totally in this game on the over uh if it could stay probably under 60 if we could get a 56 I'm not sure what it's at now but if we get a 56 or somewhere up there we get too far over 60 I'm not sure but I think a blowout is coming I think uh Hawaii can get on the board and uh it's going to be a good game it's gonna be nice to watch right there it's not gonna be coming on too late in the middle of the night so everybody get a chance to take a good look at it but you got yeah you got anything else I'll most likely take you I see they're at what is it is it 13 and a half right now boss I got it at 13 and a half right now yeah I saw it originally when they first brought the line out it was 16 and a half um I mean it's really G to come down guys I didn't mention to see this is Foster's first time being a head coach I'm bought into this guy um thought to leave UCL to be the running backs coach for the Raiders um until U called him back and said can you come back um he's still though he's never he's never been a head coach so it's going to be really interesting to see this year I think his players are bought in and I think he's ready for it but he still has to prove it so um it's gonna be it's going to be interesting to see it's definitely fun to watch as a fan to see what their program is going to do these next couple years because they've attacked the recruiting Trail they have one of the best recruiting classes in 2025 which we haven't had in a long time um so it's all it's gonna be fun you know whatever this team does this year hey everything about UCLA is fun fun fun so shout out to UCLA but yeah that's pretty much the take right here on this one uh we thank you for coming in for this
