Ja’Marr Chase WILL NOT get a deal done before Patriots game - Adam Schefter | Sunday NFL Countdown

I'm told we have major developments on two other stories that we are following today the first involves another wide receiver shy what do we know about Jamar Chase well Jamar Chase while Tyreek Hill is going to play we're still awaiting a decision on whether Jamar Chase is going to play today's opener against the Patriots this is going to be his decision but here's what we do know and here's what's new greeny the Bengals and Jamar Chase are not going to get a deal done before today's opener that contract that's been in issue all summer long is not expected to get T in time for today's game and so now Jamar Chase will have to decide whether he's willing to play this season for $1 million in base salary or whether he's going to sit out in addition to the illness that he came down with yesterday that contributed to him being placed on the injury report but he's not going to have a new deal in place and that will be one more factor that Jamar Chase has to decide upon as he makes a decision about whether or not to play today okay so we we all noticed he's wearing the $1 sweatshirt as he's walking in there talking about getting $1 more than his old college teammate Justin Jefferson should should Jamar Chase play today without a new contract if he's standing on business no if he loves the game yes if he's standing on business no he should not play cuz it's about the money but if he loves the game of football like we all sit up here at this table money shouldn't be a factor we all know he needs to take care of his family we all hear that but the game of football that you love game time is here week one is here if he loves the game he'll play Green I'll just say that this can be more of a distraction to Jamar Chase than what Tyreek Hill just went through I'm just telling you because all right I I I got I got cuffed I got put in they they arrested me I got a traffic incident all right man let me out of here and I got to go play and I got to go play this is different though now you're thinking I mean if the if it's close to being done great but if it's not and he feels somewhat irritated now you got a problem because now it's like like moss is saying I know there's two years left on his contract and then they got all these things to say to him why it shouldn't be negotiated but it's like now you don't think I'm worth it and now it's like well now I don't play at all so what head space is he in I'm more worried about what head space Jamar is in because then I mean you get down to the New England Patriots and then I mean if I'm a teamate I'm like we should have him out there and then it gets irritating when you're down three points or it's tied in the fourth quarter and it's like we aren't this team this isn't our team out here they've messed us up up top oh by the way they play Kansas City next week so this is the one they're supposed to get before they go head-to-head against their Arch Rivals Rex you're his coach now and Zack Taylor Zack Taylor actually used the words put my foot in my mouth a week and a half ago which in 30 years of covering football I don't think I've ever heard a coach say that how does the coach handle the situation where he knows the player is this unhappy about his contract yeah I mean all you can do is sit back and say listen I mean business business is is is that man's you know uh responsibility ility all that kind of stuff he did sign a contract I'm a coach I want this guy to play for me all right the biggest thing for me is show them how good you are get out here show them how good you are look the Bengal the he's going to be the highest paid receiver in the history of the game he is at some point you're going to pay it what else do he show you Rick no he's he's nothing but I'm telling you this thing historically that they try to get it done after you know one year left what presidents are you willing to to set gu coming out now is the two years I think that's the biggest issue right now but however it's going to be done at some point Jamar Chase can be looked at in that locker room as you know what this dude's coming out here they everybody knows the situation and he shows up today and plays he's sick he doesn't have a contract well and he's well-deserving to be the highest paid receiver and you know what he's still out here for who for us not for anybody else for us and he and he possibly isn't prepared physically I mean how then then it's like okay I'm playing then how many reps do I put him out there as and so then it's like the game's tight and now oh shoot we've already had him out for 30 do we keep playing him and I see he's stretching right here like he's ready to go I mean that's a good sign I'm sure in his mind he thinks he's ready to go I'm just more curi about curious about this head space all right all right and then a lot of guys really don't have any clue about what's going on in terms of being his teammate they've been doing everything I'm trying to play linebacker he's trying to play he's trying to play tight end all this stuff and then they see him out there stretching and getting warm and then they see him have certain amount of plays and you know how you should look with him playing and then if it's different it's a huge distraction for everyone especially if you end up in a contested see I can see him doing the money Downs I I can see him being out there on third down and in the red zone right the those money Downs right there and yeah I don't think he's going to be ready to play a full game you know what like Randy and
