What does Jonah Jackson BRING to the Rams offensive line?

Intro welcome back folks I'm Jake Ellen Bogan today we're going to be talking about Jonah Jackson in our long little series that we're doing here um before we dive into it be sure to like subscribe and comment also be sure to follow me on all social media at JK Bogan including Instagram let's get started so Jonah Jonah Jackson Jackson the 27-year-old offensive guard playing left guard last year will continue to play left guard for the Rams after signing a 3-year $51 million deal that came as a shock to a lot of people I think once Kevin Dawson was signed I don't think Rams Fans were expecting to see a guard sign but the Rams went out they you know looked at options potentially hey if Kevin doson gets picked up who is going to be the backup plan we have to have a backup plan and the backup plan we found out was Jonah Jackson now Jonah Jackson they like so much that after they got Dotson ink they were like we got to get Jonah Jackson and bring him in here so they did that tells me a few things okay one they really wanted both guys to be signed to the same amount of time they wanted three years they're going to have the interior of this offensive line together for the next three seasons okay probably Matthew Stafford's last three seasons of his career but we'll see um so you talk about obviously doson who will get to in this series at some point uh Jonah Jackson and of course Steve avula who's next on the list and having those three guys signed to three-year deals obious obviously you know just it works out in ail's favor that you know he's there but having those three guys signed uh for the next three years is a big deal right and so you have to ask I mean Jonah Jackson what what do what do you make of this guy besides the fact that his name is Jackson the guy next to him on the left side Aller Jackson is named Jackson by the way if you haven't checked out that video you can do so uh below but um look 64 311 lb you know this is definitely somebody who's an athletic player um e l says 315 on the ram site I checked that this time instead of using other sites I want to H always have that in front of me because uh 285 is not the case on aleric Jackson he's actually 345 so a lot of sites are reporting his uh weight wrong anyway let's get back to Jonah Jackson um what does this guy do well he is a predominant run blocker okay he is a Mauler in the trenches he's going to open up holes for the running backs and I I think it makes a lot of sense because the Rams really started to get back to running the football and Running the Football maybe that's not even the right way to say it getting back to running the football would I guess kind of make it so the idea is that Shawn mcy ran the football a lot even with Todd Gurley I I disagree I think they ran it more with Kiron I think they showed more desire to run the ball pound the rock with Kiren Williams whether that has anything anything to do with Stafford's age I don't know but kyen Williams was the second best running back in the league and I'm not even going to get into the whole I don't care what Executives and all these Anonymous NFL people have to say about Kiren Williams and how he's not even in the top 10 or whatever top 15 that's not even something that I care about does not matter to me he was a number two running back last year behind only Christian mcaffrey so my point in bringing this up is that the Rams really started to Pound The Rock and you saw it last year against ra the Baltimore Ravens who were the best run defense in the league going in that game the Rams hit him with eight may I think was eight but could have been nine straight runs with Kiren Williams so it shows their desire even against the big dogs even against the heavyweight hitters it shows the desire to want to run the football does not mean they're they're not going to pass it but it does show the desire to run it so with Jonah Jackson last year you only played 12 games a little concerning he's had some injuries um that's the big issue that was my big issue with signing him to a 3year $51 million deal I was concerned about the injuries aside from that love the deal okay 12 games last year for the Lions uh had two penalties okay so that's that's great you know not not bad at all um and he gave up two sacks and 24 pressures in those 12 games now keep in mind 24 pressures and two sacks in 12 games instead of playing the 17 so that's not the best and to be be honest with you he's not out there for pass protection he is not a great pass protector um although he did not give up a sack in almost the actually a little bit more uh snaps in 2022 he did not give up a sack had 26 pressures and then in 2021 he gave up four sacks had 35 pressures um in 607 snaps which was more than 2022 and then 611 snaps his rookie year he had five sacks given up and 35 pressure so what can we expect from Jonah Jackson cuz I don't want to make this a prediction video but at the same time I PFF think people need to know like hey like what's going on here so look Jonah Jackson is probably going to give up a sack or two this year okay he just is if he plays all 17 games I think he gives up maybe three sacks and I think his pressures will be around probably 30 okay so not bad especially because he has a chance to be an elite run blocker I think the problem with you know using too much of say PFF and all of that which to be fair I do use a little PFF especially with offensive line is that doesn't tell the full story okay I've said before I'll say it again these are essentially opinion-based these are grades based on humans humans make errors now I'm not saying everybody at PFF is making all these errors and whatnot when charting out the game data but I will say you and I could look at the same play and you could take away two great things and I could take away two negative things I could end up ultimately ruling the play as a negative against the player that I'm charting and you could call it a positive it's subjective football in reality a lot of it is subjective okay because you can say oh well you know he didn't make the textbook play there yeah but this freed up this and so forth so I guess essentially what I'm saying is you got to take things with a grain of salt um with that said though I think the film kind of speaks for itself I would show it to you but you I already explained why I can't thanks uh to people copyright striking me or trying to um you know he is somebody that is going to be dynamic in the Run game he's going to really help being next to Steve Ula um Al Jackson is not the best run blocker but I think he'll be okay next to aler Jackson and I think his pass protection is going to get better okay I think he's next to two guys I think that will help um I think his pass protection is going to get better I'm really excited to see him work um you know with of course you know Wendell and you know potentially we we'll see what ends up happening with Munchak but um I think Jackson is going to get better he's 27 years old he's in his prime I I really do suspect him to get better I think the biggest issue with Jackson isn't his abilities or anything like that it's about staying healthy and if he does that the Rams have a top five offensive line of in football okay across the board you have Alec Jackson you have Jonah Jackson then you have Steve Ula at Center you have Kevin doson at Right Guard and Rob havenstein at right tackle to me that is a top five offensive line if healthy now the key word is health because looking at you know this and everything like I'm a little concerned in a sense um you know with Jonah Jackson's you know durability um but if you know he is healthy he's a solid pass protector I don't think he's amazing but he's solid and he has a chance to be the best run Blocker on the team okay so lot of you know pound-for-pound I guess push in the pile I think Kiren Williams and of course Blake km are going to reap the rewards here but don't assume just because they went out and got Jonah Jackson they won't be throwing the ball at all they're definitely going to be throwing it and they're going to be throwing it quite a bit I think this is an offense that will be balanced but they'll have the ball so much and they'll dominate clocks and what have you that you're going to see a ton of running the football and you're going to see a ton of throwing the football okay and I think that's something that we kind of have to remember is that if you're a really really good offense you're going to be on the field a lot okay and if your defense is okay at very least with a really good offense you're going to put up a lot of points you're going to move the ball you know and so I think we get ourselves into the the Final Thoughts predicament of oh well this can't work if this is happening like Cooper cup can't have these yards if puku has these yards and kyen Williams has that's not really true like there there's no finite amount of yards okay if this offense comes out defense creates turnovers and the offense can't be stopped well I got news for you there's going to be plenty of stats all across the board so Jonah Jackson 27 years old he'll be 28 in February okay so they're getting him a good time if he stays healthy they're going to be totally fine okay if he gets hurt they have remedies for that situation okay they do and we maybe we'll see KT uh leston maybe we'll see Bo limmer the two rookies maybe we'll see Joe Noom I think likely we would see Joe Noom but the point is the Rams are ready in case anything like this happens they have decent depth on the offensive line and right now I think they're just trying to throw caution in the wind okay build from the inside out that's always been the smart way to build a football team whether people realize it or not and I know it's kind of lost in today's society because now we're we're spending over 30 million on wide receivers and to be fair those wide receivers are guys like Tyreek Hill who have speed that literally can turn anything into a touchdown but at the same time the smart approach the thing the Rams did is they're building from inside to outside and we saw that this off seon they went back to that Jonah Jackson spending 17 18 million spending 171 18 million on Kevin doson they spent a second round pick on Steve avula they brought back Aller Jackson and they've given rob havenstein a few extensions so that investment on the inside to the outside is going to pay dividends and I'm very excited for it so those are my thoughts I think all in all you can expect a very good season on of Jonah Jackson um I'm not expecting him to play all 17 games I just don't think that's realistic he hasn't done that um you know in a while so I I'm not expecting that but if he does I'll be very happy I think he'll play 15 maybe 14 which you know he'll miss like three games and if that's the case then no boom gets an opport or you know one of the rookies or you know Warren McLendon Jr can't rule him out so yeah those are my thoughts I'm curious what you guys think about Jonah
