so a runner a board to start the [Applause] inning first pitch swing in went up there with the plan to be aggressive just a solid swing right there caught it out front and ripped it into the outfield for the base hit those always feel great now here's Bobby Wht Jr he's got the power but great contact skills one of the best contact hitters in the game and a foul ball [Applause] the 01 that one fouled [Applause] off runner at first with no outs [Applause] here the short stop takes the ball [Applause] next pitch misses outside and it's to a two just missing off the plate there according to the Umpire and out there on the mound maybe trying to get an explanation can't say he's convinced but it looks like he's accepted [Applause] it three two now he's really tightening up his Hitting Zone with two strikes here I love that one hit to right no trouble here puts it away for the out one away and here now the lineup for the Royals and the key to victory for them here get their starter some run support early Bo if they can get him that run support early it's likely the other team folds because they know how dominant he can be once he gets settled in so put pressure on that other team right away jump out to a lead early and a few runs is going to feel like 30 Michael Massie now the Box comes up empty with a swing there bitford throws to First fam back to First safely [Applause] swinging a foul straight [Applause] back the pitch that one just misses really good take especially with two strikes SS through that one it's a strike down man there was no deviating from the fast right there he just coming after with here it is hit it if you can and he just couldn't find a way to put it in play and now it's Salvador Perez to the [Applause] play right through there for a strike oh one's the count [Applause] Bickford over to First fam back to First [Applause] safely and the righty deals fast ball for a strike oh and tuna perhaps not quite ready to hit first two pitches by him for a couple of strikes now back is against the walls going to have to figure something out and figure it out quickly and a swing to miss down on strikes third out Royals lead one and now the Yankees will see what they can do no score you're watching Major League Baseball exclusively on the show back here with my pal singy and today on the hill Cole Reagan what do you have on him well the hammer is in effect and he sets it up so nicely because of the Velocity on the fast Elevate that and then break you off when he's ahead the count what I love about him you get into the later Innings of the ball game and the velocity seems to go up the pitch glaver Torres the leadoff batter as he looks at ball one [Applause] and another ball two and0 and that one almost hit him in for a strike now three and one out there on the mountain he's setting the tone early with the fast ball 98 per hour up on the scoreboard to the right side and that chance handled sends it to first one up one down batting second let's take a look at our lineup and now it's Juan sto he's not going to get cheated up there no he's not he's looking to do damage with every swing he [Applause] takes that one a little bit high and it's w and know one out base is [Applause] empty right through there for a strike I got one ball one strike missed with a change up and the count two and one you got two balls one strike the pitch he swings and fouls one off [Applause] [Applause] the Lefty fires got him swinging I love to see guys compete and I know he's frustrated that he wasn't able to do anything with that pitch you see it so well but you have to respect the upper 90s velocity it is hard to catch up to here is Aaron judge Whit over to First and the Yanks go quietly Yanks held in check we played an inning no score back now in the Bronx top of the second now the left fielder MJ Mendez mende backas City [Applause] the pitch rolled softly but that goes foul [Applause] [Music] [Applause] got looks like he's picked up right where he left off well when you commit to throwing an inside fast ball to your glove side across the strike zone especially with two strikes if you're going to miss you want to miss off the plate in you do not want to leave it out over the heart of the plate so that was excellent execution on that pitch really tied him up and he couldn't get a piece at all now it's Paul D young up to the plate pitch misses inside and that's ball [Applause] one here we go yank and another ball two count great hitter at the dish if you're going to Miss you've got to miss outside the zone you miss inside the strike zone you'll be asking the Umpire for a new baseball popped up to the left into foul ground Chisum drifts towards it drops into the glove and there are two down P set the first B juli guel Julie guel comes up to hit Yan check swing he went and it's one two outs Bas is empty Mi pitch inside one ball one strike [Applause] swing and a miss and he was full he has a tendency to chase out of the zone and that slider that's down that's one of his money pitches to get that swing and Miss way outside and it's two and [Music] [Applause] [Music] two good eye on that spot two down DOL on tear ball takes the turn he's digging for second the throw to second is offline he really shot that one down the right field line and somehow found a way to keep it from slicing foul one thing that was great about the approach his head was down all the way through the pitch and that's how do it runner in scoring position now and a good opportunity to push across the first run of the ball game here's the second basem that's ripped base hit coming home the throw in but it's off R and it's one- nothing well done drives in the Run other than riing one into the gap or blasting one over the wall there are a whole lot of hits that are more satisfying than a nice Line Drive in the center field so that definitely felt good and now it's Kyle [Applause] Isbell and first offering is fouled off [Applause] bigford picks over and he's back [Applause] safely swing in a miss and it's nothing in twoe all you got to do is concentrate and execute this next pitch get yourself out of the jam back into the dugout [Applause] swings and misses struck him out so one run in the Inning on this base hit it's now a one nothing ball game bottom of the inning and now here is Austin Wells there well rein back to work wouldn't chase that [Applause] time next offering is in for a strike good zip on that fast at the bottom of the Zone if he's there all day it's a tough one for the hitters at Drummond behind the plate calling balls and strikes maybe one of the most respected umpires around the league he's not the kind of umpire that you're likely to notice back there and that can be a huge compliment really so if you're just kind of quietly doing your job staying consistent with your calls hitters pitchers managers even fans they're all going to appreciate you he's that kind of maybe caugh that one off the end little bit couldn't quite Barrel it up enough drive it here's Stanton now [Applause] that one finds the Zone strike one looks like a really good fast ball today you can hear that catcher mitt popping looking forward to hearing a lot of that one in this one one down base is empty swing and a miss and he was fooled quickly in an 02 count youve got to figure out a way to shorten your path to the baseball put it in play somewhere then you got a chance one ball that one not close and the count one and [Applause] two the line of the pitch got it by him for the K you know varant speeds can be just as useful for a pitcher as mov as you see right there it really wasn't a great location but the fact that the velocity change had the hitter off balance and that's all you got to do sometimes Jazz Chisum Jr now that's in there going and [Applause] one the Royals leading by a run bottom half of inning number two goes down looking so the Yanks go in order they're down one nothing back at Yankee Stadium top half of the third inning here's Tommy fam Tommy and a pitch fam goes 6' one hitting lead off in today's game usually in left but today he's starting in right [Applause] field and a pitch on the ground lead off hitter gone in the [Applause] third Bobby Whit J so digging in Bobby wit Jr he's over for one we talk about guys with good speed and definitely he has it but pushing the offensive side for just a second Chris it's the defensive side that I think the speed factors in the most fast ball for a strike well he gets the balls that get by most people at that position just really impressive because there's certain times the ball comes off the bat automatically that team that hit it thinks that they've got a base hit or they may have EX bases and he just takes it away righty to the plate that one down the line oh great grab on the dive and that's a great play for the out catlike reflexes on that one makes the dive has to get up clean exchange to throw a strike across the diamond and what a tremendous play and now the DH Michael Massie [Applause] [Music] that one finds the Zone strike [Applause] one rander kick steals found back ourway and that's out of play [Music] [Applause] swing and a miss struck him out KC down in order but they hold the one- nothing lead and welcome back to the BK as we go to the last of the third Anthony Rizzo steps to the play R the wi to the pitch Line Drive Bas it right field batting the short stop and next for New York Anthony vulpi in the dirt well done behind the dish [Applause] so two balls and no strikes two balls no [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Applause] stri and a curve this is outside well I would expect in this 3oh count you're taking all the way see if they'll walk you Alex Doo waiting to hit for the Yankees next offering is in for a strike calling this count Runner not known for a speed but I think you got to put them in motion try to avoid a double play here boo the 3-1 and that one is lifted in the air Melendez going after it makes the grab one down batting G the left Al Vero here's Alex Verdugo you know this is kind of a tough matchup as a left-handed hitter facing a left-handed pitcher what you tell yourself is I want to stay Square to the plate try to hit the ball over the short Stop's [Applause] head hard hit left field base in quick throw back in lead Runner holds it second with one gone didn't take long to get a result it back pretty much split the Zone down those are the ones where you got to [Applause] make so the batting order turns over now it's the second baseman Gabbert Torres he's over one that one is absolutely beled and he's the he circles the bases it's 31 listen to these fans this place is absolutely buzzing right now you can feel the energy all the way up here in our broadcast grp change up up in the zone is a hitter's Dream It's a BP fastball but you're playing in real time most times pitcher asking for a new baseball just like right there one down wato now pitch misses and that's ball one [Music] and that drops in for a strike well he looks fresh out there just needs to get a little more confidence and remember how good he's been in the past that misses two and one one strike ground ball right side steps on first for the out the center field number 99 Aaron two out Bas is empty Aaron judge at the [Applause] plate first pitch misses ball one already three runs across in the frame here in the last half of the Third and there's the [Applause] strike two outs that one the other way and that should be extra bases around first heading for two throws to second not in time it's a double anytime you rip a line drive the other way you feel really good about what you did at the plate you trusted your hands you let the ball travel and you took the barrel straight to it that's great work right there man at second here with two away Austin Wells stepping in now for the Yankees big swing in a miss the strategy of winning a ball game when you could make that pitcher work a little more expose himself by throwing pitches that can be the key to winning perhaps later on so good job of extending this inning getting a knock with two outs to bring the number four hole hitter up and now the o one foul ball there judge stands at second with two [Applause] gone got inning over and it could have been worse another look at the long ball for the Yankees it's now a 3-1 ball game it's major league baseball and it's on the show back in the Bronx on to the fourth now'll be the cleanup hitter for the Royals Salvador Perez he might just be the best hitting catcher in the game today well boo he's so valuable does a good job behind the plate but offensively he's a middle of the order TI of bad especially when you talk about catchers and their number one job is to handle the pitching staff and prevent runs this guy is able to add runs by producing [Applause] them and he deals and another ball righty delivers swing and a ball driven pretty well out towards left Center he's got it up on down every day during batting practice these outfielders get about 10 minutes of BS in the gaps they practice this and when the game comes they make the play perfectly and the batter now MJ mende that one finds the Zone it's own and one the Yanks leading by two top half of inning number four in the air center field judge getting an angle on it two away now now B third B Paul and now Paul the young get out of [Applause] here that misses one and0 [Applause] fast ball gets the inside corner at the [Applause] knees swing and a miss and that strike two one ball two [Music] strike that one in the dirt two balls two strikes [Applause] [Music] [Applause] and that's downstairs and [Applause] outside spoils the two- strike pitch and he'll see another [Applause] pay off Pitch Fly ball pretty well struck right field that's back there that's down one hops Off the Wall the throw into second and he's got a double love how he let that ball travel trusted his hands nice job of going the other way [Applause] [Applause] here's guel doubled his first time up Fly ball center field and that'll fall for a base hit now a long throw home not in time he's safe and a run comes into score well clearly he was ready to hit right there when you flare a ball out behind second base it's really a tough spot for anyone to get to and you're never trying to do that as a hitter but when you do I tell you what you're yelling at it the entire way to get down here's the second basem singled and drove in a run his first time through that one misses ball one [Applause] two outs he one ball one strike and a good eye [Music] there right through there for a strike [Applause] at the belt and fires spoils that one and it remains two and two here comes a pitch makes the grab and that'ss the inning they pick up one run on the RBI single it's now a 3-2 ball game you're watching Major League Baseball on the show bottom of the fourth and now is the Yankees G John Carlos [Applause] Carlos re back to work and a good fast ball to start him off that's strike one oh that's today's style of baseball right there right big time vo on the bump and Big Time pop at the plate the pitch gets a piece and it stays on and [Applause] two and the pitch fights that one away in the count remains 0 and [Music] [Applause] two and here it comes cuts on it and misses that's a strike out chase the fast up the ladder for strike three well he really filled up the strike zone and that it bad until that final pitch and as a hitter you sense that they're coming after you not dancing around the strike zone They want to attack and so you kind of get into swing mode and you have to protect the plate that's when you become really susceptible to something that makes you chase and that's exactly what happened right there chis stands in here takes ball [Applause] one now Fly ball to Right Center sizes this one up he makes the grab out number two up next to the Yankees the first two out space is empty Anthony Rizzo stepping in now for the Yankees singled and scored his first [Applause] time and a foul ball yeah two down nobody on we're here in the bottom of the fourth right side guel he takes it himself to the bag and that'll do it one two three go the Yankees and it remains a 3-2 ball game new pitcher for the Yankees Ron Marino and this is an important part of the this game tight score and still a lot of outs to get so they're looking for a big outing out of them right here to get some critical outs Kyle Isbell steps in for the Royals three pitch strike out last time up got to put up more of a fight in this one and he deals and there's a foul ball well these Royals from what we've seen I think it's fair to wonder if they've been to patient at the plate they found themselves behind in the count quite a bit they're trying to be patient but it's mostly resulting in outs not base runners and you could argue it's making things more difficult at the [Applause] plate leftand hitter Waits swings through that one for strike two movement in the Yankees pen Mark lighter Jr getting loose out there for Aaron Boone kanley getting cranked up as well one and two now stays [Music] alive struck Him Out Swinging pulled the string on the chain up well that's always the key to effective pitching is getting ahead in the count and as a pitcher it really allows you to start expanding The Zone hitters become defensive and all of a sudden that plate starts to get really wide and what happens is because of the pressure you end up committing to a pitch as a batter before you recognize what it is and that's what leads to the strikeout fam batting with one down takes a [Applause] strike and that's outside the Yankees up by a run and we're in the top of the [Applause] fif and it is two to one back to back breaking pitches away you get the feeling as a hitter that the pitcher is afraid of you that he doesn't want to challenge you so I think the confidence level is raised right here two1 now would chase that time first pitch strike from the pitcher but then no Panic at all by The Hitter very patient showing good discipline now he's in the driver's seat with the 3-1 count kicks and fires and boy that was the pitch 3-1 you want to be really aggressive on the fast ball one down base is empty keeps the back going with a foul ball [Applause] and the pitch and that's B perfect it's tough after falling behind a hitter two balls and no strikes but now at least he gets a fresh start against a new batter but he needs to get back into the strike zone and start pitching with conviction withit the next to hit takes high for ball one [Applause] the pitch fam on the Move pitch in for a strike throw and they got him well the throw bounced in there perfectly really nice job on the bag pick it apply that tag hold it on him just didn't get a good jump over there at first base that's half the battle of stealing bases maybe even more two down nobody on nope two ball one [Applause] stke foul ball [Music] right-handed reliever bals it back with two [Applause] strikes out to short vulpi tosses to First and Wht is out third out and that ends the frame we head to the bottom of the fifth and stepping in for the Yankees Anthony vulon line kick the pitch and that one fouled [Applause] off and now the left that one fouled off missed by a lot now one and two [Applause] struck him out looking well it's just a great job of playing catch with the catcher exactly where the catcher set up is where he threw that pitch and probably pulled the Umpire a little bit because there was no budge at all and up next for New York Alex for Dugo that catches the top part of the Zone well on the mound very efficient able to produce an outcome it seems like within the third or fourth pitch of just about every at bat kicks andand deals and that one fouled off the 02 cuts and misses it's a strikeout really love the pitch sequence right there I'm telling you what pitcher and catcher on the same page right now gaver back to the top of the line here is glaver Torres he's already homered in this [Applause] game and the first pitch misses for ball one [Applause] the Lefty fires now this is in the air down the line sizing this one up makes the grab and that is the third out of the [Applause] inning back here in New York start of the six John shami with Chris Singleton and leading off Michael [Applause] Massie the rander back to work and fouled off [Applause] [Music] [Applause] left hand batter weights and that one fouled off not even close there and the count one and two O2 pitch that far out of the Zone gives the hitter a little confidence that maybe he can climb back back into this at bat and the rander deals and there's a [Applause] ball that's off the mark and the count is filled up Salvador Perez on deck for the Royals [Applause] the pitch and down on strikes he goes now one away the B so up now for Kansas City Salvador Perez [Applause] swing and a miss that's strike one Perez an Allstar a season ago 33 years old and he was born in Venezuela outside low one and [Applause] one Bas is empty one away and we're in the top half of the six the one- one is fouled off is mixing his pitches really well laid on that fast B after seeing the change up see if he can Elevate one I think if he does he'll get the swing and miss the pitch and him looking that's a strike out set him down on strikes on just four pitches that time and this was just classic East West pitching Boo and that's not as common these days they went in away in and then back away for the call third strike and that kind of pitching makes it tough on you as a hitter to know where to look especially with two strikes MJ Melendez getting ready to [Applause] hit missed with a change up ball one two outs late swing foul to the left [Applause] he swings and fouls one [Music] off hold strike three on the fast ball and that ran back over the other half no runs no hits no errors 234 due up in the home half of for the six Yankees three and the Royals two bottom of the sixth inning here's wo he's a guy who does it all with the lack of contact in today's game this guy hits for contact so he delivers average but there's on base and slugging too not close with that one and it's w to know early in the count you have to be real careful because of that power but then if this hitter gets a strike or two on him he's still very comfortable because he has the ability to get the barrel to the baseball he's a threat deep into the count as well and a pitch and that one almost got him and that is in for a strike and now three and one swing and a miss as he was out front that time three and two now bals that off to the left and will do it again [Music] that one sizzling on its way through to the Outfield and the lead off man aboard well that was one of those high percentage Advantage counts where batting averages are just so much higher we've all seen the defensive shift make a big difference in defending against hitters but it's not foolproof he pulled it as expected but he found a hole that time now big number 99 Aaron judge nobody out runner at first and another ball Bullpen action for the Royals Sam long a lefty looks to be getting himself ready Hernandez a right-hander loosening up as well [Applause] the pitch in there at the knees for a strike in today's game not that many fast ball counts but hitters still in the back of their minds they're looking for one two change up call right there excellent pitch selection to go with the count two and one judge Ricks that one and it one hops the wall in safely with a double his second of the day well patience and discipline paid off right there as he got into an advantage count I'll tell you man it's such a good feeling when you smoke a line drive into the Gap like that I mean sure home runs are ping but I feel like nothing makes you feel like a true professional hitter more than a bulk the other way manager out of the Dugout now and it looks like we'll see a change on the mound Cole Reagan won't go any further and they Trail as he exits but he kept them close a new arm will be on the mound after the break so the Royals bring on a new arm Sam long just trying to keep this one close here and this is where Bullpen can give their players a chance to fight back into the game so here's the cleanup hitter Austin Wells golden opportunity right [Applause] here down the line it's a base hit one runs in comes in to score three two picks himself up a couple of rbies nice job of driving that pitch the other way on a line you know hitters they take so many reps in the cages working on going to the opposite field and it doesn't always translate into the game but right there it did and he did it perfectly no outs runner at first and now it's John Carlos Stanton who's over for two with a pair of strikeouts rolled to short could be two off balance feed there's one how about that double play the third saw hands on the backand right there in the six hole starts the double play that's not an easy throw but he puts it on the money really good job to get that double play started here's the third baseman Jazz Chisum [Applause] Jr that immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Applause] foul ball it stays nothing in two swings through it and that's a strike out they put two on the board on three hits no errors and no one left on we're through six full it's the Yankees five and the Royals two welcome back we're in the seventh we have a new pitcher on the map Mark lighter Jr now for the New York G number 38 Mar lighter [Applause] J so digging in Paul D young one for two the Royals in Striking Distance but have some work to do boo it starts with the leadoff man need a good and bad out of him right here tapped at the plate but it's a foul ball drilled out towards left center field that's well struck and it's gone and they cut into the deficit it's 53 things might get pretty interesting if they keep connecting on pitches like [Applause] that seey I hope you saw it because it didn't stay in the air for long long no it didn't boo stat cast telling us 110 mph off the bat and that's plenty to hit one out if you get enough air under it as a hitter you hardly feel the ball when you make contact as solid as he did right there now it's Julie guriel swung on belted that one back and one hops Off the Wall should be extra bases safe at second with a double third hit for him this afternoon oh that started and ended pretty quickly no messing around right there put a really nice balanced swing on it and when you can look into the Gap like that you're thinking extra bases from the first couple of steps out of the box and he'll feel real good about that one now it's the second baseman and that's outside and that's ball one with the tying run at the plate here the top half of inning number [Music] [Applause] seven and that's in the dir and now two [Music] [Applause] and0 no trouble here puts it away for the eye and there's one down here's a new pitcher from the pen Tim Hill pretty big spot he's coming into trying to straighten that runner at second base so he's going to need to make some quality pitches he does have first open if he needs to use [Applause] it here's the center fielder Kyle Isbell you're talking about Elite defense players especially in the middle of the diamond and this guy is at the top of the list that's through there for a strike yeah we go beyond just the you know Fielding percentage and you know what it looks like but the ability to have a range and you know close holes that you know are normally there against an average Defender but this guy is special and you can see it in his first step quickness next offering is in for a strike got him now two out well he's going to have some thinking to do when he leaves the ballpark after this one that was his third strike out and this one looking obviously so he's been a little overmatched he's got to find a way just to be more competitive up there at the plate so the Royals batting order turns over and to the pl for Kansas City Tommy fan Tommy fan swings blasts one back there and out of here it's their second home run of the inning it's 55 he only needed one swing to square it up not wasting any time in that at bat boo aggressive and it paid [Applause] off with a low 90s fast ball you have to live on the edges and hit your spots if you don't you'll get hit hard really good swing there patient waited for it was like BP all over again so it's all tied up thanks to the Home Run Bobby Wick Jr digs in now this guy is one of the best athletes in the sport the other way and it goes just foul trying to keep good speed off the bases [Applause] uhoh that got him and the potential winning run is aboard that pitch right there didn't even sniff the Zone he was all out of whack on that delivery man it first and here is Michael Massie one pitch out but no action if you're a base runner you got to stay dialed in here look for anything in the dirt try your best to get in scoring position activity in the bullpen for the Yankees Tommy Kane preparing to come on if needed Mesa a left-hander also throwing up the middle Torres whips it to First and the inning is over but two rounde Trippers in this inning the long ball was working all even to five a piece you're watching Major League Baseball on the show here at new Yankee stadium in the Bruns ready to go for the last half of the inning and now the first baseman Anthony Rizo the line and the pitch well on paper it's favorable to have a fairly quick inning here with two of the three hitters he's set to face batting from the left side same side he throws [Applause] from Pitch misses inside it's one and [Applause] one and that skips in dir next offering is foul back the line of the pitch foul ball another two two [Applause] upcoming and the pitch battling here as he fouls it [Applause] away the pitch and another [Applause] [Music] ball knocks that one away and we'll do it [Applause] again got him he didn't make it easy for him on the mound but they still get the strike out just indecisive in that inat he couldn't commit to the slider tried to sit in between just not able to put the bat on the ball and now it's going to be Anthony vulpi misses just off the outside edge I think that was a strike that one off the mark now two and0 [Applause] Andy deals swinging a foul straight back all tied up here at the bottom of the seven popped up the young settles under this one and that quickly two away that was a good pitch to hit right down the heart of the plate had pretty good just got underneath a little bit and poed it up here's the left fielder Alex Verdugo struck out on just three pitches last [Applause] time first offering and it just misses and another ball [Applause] [Music] [Applause] just missed glaber Torres would be next if they can extend the inning and he's homered already so I'm sure he'd love a chance to do some more damage [Music] here and the three finds the zone [Applause] right through there for a [Applause] strike down on strikes and it's a three up three down inning down in order go the Yankees our score holds at five a piece so they turn things over to the righty Tommy KY 31 [Applause] kley so now it's the four hitter Salvador Perez for three with two strikeouts and a fly out he's a big strong guy can untie this game with one swing here comes a pitch that one finds the zone that strike one no need to offer that pitch until you get to two strikes it's just a low percentage of success when you want to try to go after that down and Away pitch righty delivers fall off [Applause] foul that one not close going to count one and two [Applause] got him swinging well that slider was way out of the zone and for me it just comes down to not seeing the pitch out of the hand not tracking into the zone and then also being a little bit anxious not confident in your two- strike approach and so when a guy's in that position you get him to Comm in early and a lot of times you get the swing and Miss as you did right there so up next MJ Melendez sh missed B is empty one away and we're in the top of the [Applause] eigh missed with a change up and that's ball two movement in the Yankees pen Luke Weaver getting loose out there for Aaron boon [Applause] [Music] [Applause] that one to First and foul [Applause] ball and the righty deals bounced out to short vulpi fires across the diamond two up two down here in the top of the eight that's a huge defensive play in the late stages of the game might not be the most challenging we've seen today but it needed to be made that's helping your team this one chopped on the ground but [Applause] foul that one's in there that's right [Applause] two inside just missed and that's awfully close I don't know how you take that he's seeing the ball out of the pitcher's hand really well right now swings through that one it's a strike down Royals bats are quiet there and this remains a 55 ball game back now new pitcher on the mount as we roll into the bottom of the E Carlos Hernandez herandez Flor Torres up to the play he's already Homer here in this [Applause] one and a pitch that one a triple digits that was absolute gas triple digits on the gun it's just a different experience as a hitter watching that go by and strike two that split is a pretty nasty pitch explodes out of the hand looks like a fast ball and the bottom just falls out of [Music] it HS and misses it's a strike out oh clearly just anxious right there and understandably so two count you feel like you've got a lot of plate to cover and you don't want St out and you end up striking out that's just one of those pitches where it's not over the plate but because you committed to it as it was leaving his hand by the time you realized it wasn't going to be in the zone it's too late to hold up your swing now a chance for Juan sto and [Applause] one all tied up here the bottom half of the E [Applause] inning on the ground to First he'll do it himself and a couple of quick outs well there's a lot riding on that at B right there nice job for the pitcher to Bear Down make the pitch get the ground ball excellent piece of work now it's Aaron judge up to the [Applause] plate and a foul ball [Applause] two down dolman on out a line out toward Center isbel makes the play and it's out number three Yanks held in check this ball game still tied five all and we're back and here's the first baseman Julie gel kley 34y old vet a former first round pick back in 2013 kanley back to work on the ground right side and that's just foul swinging a ground ball the middle that's a base hit off to a good start with a leadoff dive he was over that one timing on the swing was good able to shoot the ball up the middle up as much as he probably would have but that's a good approach paying off here's the second basem one for [Applause] three drops a bunt down the first base side Rizzo off balance spe there's one and that's all they'll get tough play right there didn't really have enough time to set his feed and make a strong accurate throw had to rush it but he got it off and he got it there in time to get that out at second base so a change being made at first base and here's Kansas City's pinch Runner Garrett hson H Kyle Isbell steps in for the Royals over for three with three strikeouts that one Rip but foul ball one now he can't squeeze it behind the plate not in time he's safe and now a man into scoring position and unfortunate pass ball right there one he's not going to be happy about behind the plate and with the runner advancing a second that double play off the table right now so we'll see if that comes back to bite him pick off throw hson Dives back in safely good Wheels out there on second and he's getting a pretty big lead right now definitely looking to score on any hit to the Outfield left hand hitter Waits on the ground and it's just foul that was close SS and misses STP him out nice work there to get the strike out and that's a big second out I'll tell you this home crowd will be fired up they can get out of this and leave that go-ahead run stranded in scoring position this is a big moment in this game so the lineup flips over Tommy fan steps in for the Royals Runner takes off pitch miss over to third but the throws offline I think he surprised everyone in the ballark and especially the pitcher wasn't a great lead there but when he took off I think he caught him off guard nice job to get to third two down goahead run and score in position there's a strike one and one hard grounder into the outfield for a KN into to score from third and in the ninth they take the lead well he delivers in a huge spot right there oh he's so dialed in I don't think he even realizes how much pressure exists out there very easy swing nice and relaxed this is the type of approach you want to see guys take in this situation now Bobby Whit Jr kley checks the runner famam back to First safe [Applause] lead runner on the Move pitch outside safe and second with a stolen base well he picked over once just before the pitch to check on him but that didn't seem to slow up his jump on the pitch at all I think that guy's been studying some video awesome job to be prepared got the timing down and he gets in the scoring [Applause] position man on second two down swing and a [Applause] popup vulpi makes the play and that is that but the RBI single pushes across a run and the home team down a run Major League Baseball is on the show now into the game Garrett hson he'll play second number two pitcher in the game Lucas a well the best relievers love the opportunity to come in and protect the tight leag late the ball game some of them are just wired different so we'll see what he's got here well one run game and now the catcher comes up to him Austin Wells Corner infielders guarding the lines trying to prevent extra bases the pitch and fouled off [Applause] [Applause] looking to get the tying run on base called strike three and a fast ball up in the zone frustrating end to the advat for the hitter and I'm sure it's going to sit on for a little while you want to be ready to hit the fast ball sometimes you can overthink things and I think that was the case right there now here's John Carlos Stanton 0 for three with two strikeouts and a ground out bouncer to second in time to guel and they're down to their last out four pitches two outs that is an excellent Pace Jazz Chisum Jr stepping in now for the Yankees it's interesting he plays kind of a a power spot defensively but runs pretty well so when you're looking at that position you're not expecting someone that has here's a high Chopper throw the first that'll do it and the Royals hold on to win a tight one as this one ends as a one-run ball game oh you take a tie ball game into the ninth on the road you know that you've got some work to do you got to score but then you've also got to get three outs in the bottom half of that inning they did just that today very well played ball game get this win on the road everybody's happy with the w our final line score this afternoon first for the Victorious Kansas City Royals six runs 10 hits no errors they left five Runners on Bay for the Yankees five R seven hits no errors they left one runner on base time of the Ball Game 3 hours and 25 minutes thank you for joining us here this afteron to do and we remind you to please drive home safely hello and welcome thanks for joining us MLB the show with a good one coming at you it's the Kansas City Royals taking on the New York Yankees and we'll be back with the first pitch right after [Applause] this just a little bit away from first pitch Today's starting pitcher Phil Bickford Chris have a Scouting Report they're looking for him to get through the lineup a couple of times limit as much damage as possible and keep this game close he's not exactly expected to eat up Innings boo but he's capable of doing that if he plays his cards right in this one right ready to go here and here's the veteran outfielder Tommy F Tommy and a pitch bounc to the left side vulpi tosses to first one out in the top of the first and here now the lineup for the Royals Bobby Wht Jr steps in for the Royals he's turned into one of the best Short Stops in the game the short stop takes a ball [Applause] that's a strike across the top of the Zone dangerous spot for that slider right there didn't seem to quite finish out front and get that sharp break tell you what he doesn't want to throw that pitch again one down base is empty so a foul ball makes it one and two and a foul ball he alive fights it off you'll see another one out base is [Applause] empty pitch misses two and two he's dealing with a great two strike strike hitter right here the strikeout is not automatic got it by for the K he came out of his mechanics there typically likes to shoot the ball the other way but that time little anxious two outs B is empty so here's the Royals DH Michael Massie almost got him [Applause] and here it comes that's in for a strike backto back fast balls in that last one called for a strike probably go away but look for him to come back in there to try to finish you [Applause] off on the ground to third what a stop to First and they get the out and that right there was all pre pitch positioning put himself in the perfect spot to make a great [Applause] play back here with my pal sigy getting the nod in this one Cole Reagan well he comes at hitters with a five pitch mix so for him it's always interesting to see how he utilizes those weapons he may lean on one or two pitches depending on how things are going and how things are working but if he can control four or even five of those offerings look out hitter going to be a tough day he's really going to be able to keep those guys off balance here's clayer Torres line to the pitch misses just off the outside edge I think that was a [Applause] strike and now the Lefty and that's off the Inside Edge and that's ball [Applause] two that one missed free ball no stri [Music] next offering is in for a strike the Lefty fires and a strike to glaver helpful Leander out of the bullpen Chris bich number 50 Chris Bo [Applause] and there's B four leading up here's one Soo the right fi ball W air Torres gets his lead at first with nobody [Applause] out and another ball way to lay off that fast off right there you're looking for something you see well that you can handle but you also have to keep the discipline so that you're not popping up pitches that are just a little too high and the pitch on the ground to Third and he gets B just a simple ground B had eyes on it man sometimes that's all you need to do just let the ball travel put the ball in play and just hope it finds a ho [Applause] Here Comes Aaron judge Outfield playing very deep not wanting anything over their [Applause] heads just [Applause] missed no outs Runners at first and second [Applause] inside two and tough spot right here a couple Runners on two ball count you can't nibble but you have to execute and finish your pitch if you leave something out over the plate it's going to bring in some runs good hitters count the 2-0 crush left center field this one's deep forg it he powers that one out of here and it gives him the lead in the first it's three nothing the bride at a light the more he shines yeah this guy lives for big moments and right there made a statement big time when you're working with this kind of velocity so critical that you move the ball around work quickly and make sure that you keep that hitter off balance clearly not fooled by the location or the velocity he was all over that fast digging in Austin Wells swing in a Miss as he was late that time could be tough to bounce back after big home run but nobody on nobody out you just have to treat it as a fresh inning and now the count is even this has been a rough inning but sometimes you just got to work through it save the rest of that Bullpen somehow stopped the bleeding the pitch out to short Whit over to First finally gets the first out here on the grounder here's a look at Aaron Boon's lineup for the Yankees and here is John Carlos Stanton and a swinging a Miss there still only one out here in the inning and he swings and lifts one to deep center field Isbell going back makes the catch up against the wall batting the third basem so digging in jazz just junor it's interesting he plays kind of a a power spot defensively but runs pretty well so when you're looking at that position you're not expecting someone that has maybe above average speed but he [Applause] does two outs and it's fou away and I think that skill set really upgrades the position because when you have that kind of speed it makes the whole team that much better two down Doan swing and a miss and he got him out number three another look at the long ball for the Yankees it's now 3 nothing you're watching Major League Baseball exclusively on the show back at Yankee Stadium New inning getting started and now the veteran catcher Salvador Perez what about him playing another position on defense one that would require a little more range absolutely and I think if push came to shove where they had to make a a move during a game it surprise a lot of people you might even be able to put him in center field oh one's the count [Applause] [Music] Yankees kicks and fires right through there for a [Applause] strike swing and a miss struck him out well that's the money maker right there two strikes slider down and away from a same side thrower as the hitter I mean that's just tough you're looking to protect with two strikes and very difficult to lay off and here is MJ [Applause] Melendez Yankees up by three here at the top of the second up and in and it's a ball on a strike Ed Drummond our umpire behind the plate in this one yeah Bo he's a really fair umpire both the pitchers and the hitters so standard strikes he's consistent with it and the great thing is you don't see players questioning the calls too much so that's a good thing in this day and age good eye right [Applause] there and another ball 3-1 and he couldn't come up with it well he tried to nibble right there and just missed his spot hitter didn't offer at it now he has somebody to worry about over at first one gone runner at first Paul D young steps in for the Royals he that one's in there and it's O and one o and one two rander kicks deals fast ball in for a strike and it's own and two all right now he may have not liked either of those first two pitches or agreed with the umpire's calls but at this point he's going to have to bear down and be ready to hit anything close to the zone [Applause] swung on popped up on the infield and there's two down B set the first Bas juli juli guel comes up to hit [Applause] that one misses one and0 ball one no [Applause] strike righty to the plate that one back up the middle and it gets through throw stops the lead runner at second two on and two out just kept it simple played Pepper with the middle of the infield took it back where it came from and there's just no one there to knock it down now it's the second [Applause] baseman f ball for a strike [Applause] and the rhander deals SLA the other way [Applause] foul two on two outs to third Chism Zips it to First and that is the inning Royals strand a pair they Trail it here three [Applause] nothing back at Yankee Stadium here's the veteran first baseman Anthony Rizo Anthony [Applause] Rizo bit back to work curve ball drops in for a strike oh one's the count and he swings through that one no ball two [Applause] strike swing and a base hit man aboard on the leadoff single pretty much a model swing on that one as he ripped into the opp field Gap and I'm he's going to be watching that one back on video because that's the kind of Swing you want to bottle so many poses that led to that KN now it's going to be Anthony vulpi and [Applause] one the pitch don't play situation here he's been working up in the zone oh typically you look for guys to get that ground ball see if he adjusts on this next pitch kick and goes down swinging for the strike out pulled the string on the change up interesting sequence right there for the three- pitch punch out everything away so pretty much coming out of the same tunnel but that was a great job of using the change up to upset the timing and get him out front after coming at him with hard stuff with the first two pitches of the attack here's Alex Verdugo let's go popped up on his way over makes the catch for the out now back second Bas Gaber Tores so the batting order turns over here comes glaber Torres he walked and came around to score his first time up and a foul ball Rizzo off of first with two [Applause] away this one in the air right field and that's a fair ball throw in holds the lead runner at second two on now with two away now B right w go first and second two down Juan sto stepping in now for the Yankees one for one with a single and a run scored so far and a foul ball the pitch and a good eye [Applause] there swing and a pop off in foul gra no trouble here puts it away for the out and that is the inning yank strand a pair but they lead it three nothing back now in the Bronx all set for the start of the inning and now the center fielder Kyle iSell get out of here and the right hater back to work iSell 27 years old and he was a third round pick back into [Applause] 2018 swing and a miss struck him out and one out now oh really went aggressive in with that slider good two strike pitch right there at worst case scenario it's weak contact in play exactly where he and the catcher wanted [Applause] it lined and that's a base hit so a man aboard now with one away now no waiting around right there he was ready to swing it on the first pitch just a really nice approach to shoot that line drive to the opposite field there's a lot of hard work and discipline that goes into getting a result like that at the plate doesn't come naturally for most hitters checks over to First back [Applause] safely now here is Bobby Whit Jr in the air right field stto gets under it two down now batt the designated hitter Michael Massy man at first Michael Massie now at the plate 0 for one so [Applause] far top of the zone for a strike it's 0 and one throw to first over to First and he Sav I think you want to get a one-way lead be very aggressive in the secondary hitter not a power guy so you want to make sure that you can get some link on the secondary lead and perhaps scoring a ball in the Gap the Royals trailing by three we're here in the top half of inning number [Applause] three pitch misses now two balls in a strike two one [Applause] two outs top of the zone for a called [Applause] strike the pitch just misses the mark outside the zone Great RBI spot here just got to stay focused on the pitch the runner will be in motion so something Gap should definitely score [Applause] it 32 now that one lifted to left makes a nice grab at a full spread and that is that so one left for Kansas City still down three nothing [Applause] bottom half of the third and they bring in a new pitcher Sten Cruz pretty tight game so they're looking for Quality pitches out of them right here got to do his best to keep the score right where it is and the hard throwing righty trying to secure these outs against a potent Yankee lineup and it starts with Aaron J first pitch not close and here it comes and it stays [Applause] fair that one down the line and kept it fair and even when you hit it that far out you still have to keep your hands tight to your body so you don't hook around that baseball and put it in foul territory and that right there was perfect and here's the catcher Austin Wells drilled to right way back there and that is gone and they add to their lead it's 5 Z he sent the first pitch over the wall must have dinner reservations cuz he wasn't wasting any time at the plate in Ned back well he went up there o looking to do damage I think he had a sight set on that pitch he went and got it and circled the bases John Carlos Stanton to the plate now and first off bring his fou off you know these Yankees really impressing me with the quality of their bats in this one it's been fun getting a chance to see them go to work they jumped all over the starter and knocked him out of the game early he just was never able to settle in and the damage was done by the time he got the hook right-handed reliever swings through it and that's a strike out you know boo you often think of Sliders more for that horizontal movement but most of the good ones have both ver dep and that horizontal movement and that's what we saw right there good drop on the break and got him to swing over the top chisel stands in now and watches strike one two runs across in the inning here in the last half of the third fouled off left side I mean when you're chasing the opposing starter in the first inning or two that's just such a tone set for the game and it puts the other team back on their heels and it Stills a lot of confidence in your lineup from top to [Applause] bottom ground ball left side and it goes just foul one down base is empty out to Center and it drops in these days most outfielders play pretty deep and I'm not sure if that was a factor there or not off the bat you're thinking it's going to be a pop out and it just kind of nestled into that spot where no one was able to get to it on the ground to third there's one Double Play What a twin killing to add the inning another look at the long ball for the Yankees and the lead is now 5 nothing back in New York as we go to the top of the fourth now at the plate Salvador Perez salvad [Applause] Perez the rightand are back to work there's the strike he's been pitching well but going through this middle of the order second time through we'll see what kind of adjustments are being [Applause] made next offering is in for a strike he's been very consistent with his command out there on the mound consistently throwing at the knees pretty impressive when a guy can repeat his delivery like this and he deals and they'll do it again that misses the Zone one into the count here comes a pitch got him swinging for the strike out slider got him for a strike three definitely made him chase a little bit out of his own right there I don't think that's a strike if he takes it pretty textbook pitching get ahead in the count get the guy in the Box on his heel and then force him to chase your pitch where he doesn't have much of a chance to do any damage Mendez in the box now no balls in a strike well he's been incredibly efficient in this one first pitch strike percentage over 70% that's well above League average and that's what's allowed him to pitch well up into this [Applause] point come on Yankees one down base is empty good job to fight that one [Applause] off and a pitch inside play that's a really good take right there slider down and in very difficult to get on the same plane and do anything with that one almost got him the Yanks leading by five top half of inning number four on the ground right side Torres throws the first two quick outs here in the top of the four good slider inside right there batter fighting to get there just rolled over it got the ground ball two out space is empty Paul D young steps in for the Royals first time up was a pop [Applause] out ball one no strikes two out Spas is empty [Applause] [Applause] good eye in that [Music] [Applause] spot that one fouled off two and [Music] two two down nobody on swing in a Miss struck him out and a nice inning of work there as he sets him down one two three nothing doing for the Royals it's 5 nothing back here in New York bottom four here's the short stop at the play Anthony vul Anthony and the pitch and that one just misses a ball and no [Applause] strikes the line and the pitch sngs and misses and it's one and two one ball two [Applause] strike the W to kick the pitch hard hit right side on to first lead off hitter retired in the fourth now batt left field Alex Vero Alex Verdugo will hit [Applause] next swings through that one o and one and one Bo that's cheddar baby [Applause] left hand batter Waits gets a piece and it stays 0 and two that one missing inside Bo he never moved cuz he never had time to but that kind of velocity you'd prefer that pitcher work [Applause] away BS it off still one and two and the righty deals in the dirt and the Count's even a two B is empty one away we're here in the bottom of the fourth [Applause] still two and two after the foul ball five foul balls in this at bat so far and these two are going head to-head you can see the crowd they're starting to get into it a little bit more and more each pitch even though there hasn't been a ball in play yet [Applause] [Applause] foul ball and it remains a full count and an arrow with a lot of swing and miss and strike outs you got to love in it bat like this no one giving in and that too high ball four that's a great effect he saw a lot of pitches and earned a walk Bo do you think you could draw Walk In The Bigs if we gave you enough at BS that's a good question I think that if they gave the pitcher a false scouting report on me yes I think I could draw one Torres the next to hit takes ball one that Clips The Zone and that's strike [Applause] one just missed Verdugo at first one [Applause] gone got the back going two soon at strike two next offering popped in the air right field coming on is fam to make the play and glaver Torres retired two downan the right field w so new arm into the game the righty Carlos Hernandez I think's got to be a little tough coming in out of the pin when your guys are trailing so big on the scoreboard just doesn't have the same intensity to it but he's got to find a way because these batters count the same for his stats obviously regardless of the score and next for New York Juan stto singled and scored back in the first he's one for two [Applause] [Applause] two outs wow triple digits on the gun I know there are more pitchers that can reach that now than in the past but it's still impressive to watch gets a piece and stays alive the 02 gets a piece there we'll do it [Applause] again going and two now hit well right field way back and gone and they add on it's seven nothing that's their third home run of the game they're having a lot of fun at the plate in this one they've got the long ball working for them on [Applause] autopilot that one was a hanger and pitchers typically don't get away with making a mistake like that and right there he made him pay so two down it's Aaron judge now he's already Homer in this [Music] game and the first pitch misses for ball one [Applause] way high two [Applause] and0 and a strike right through there that one a triple digits way out front for strike two from a pitcher's perspective that's a beautiful splitter right there as a hitter you don't like it but he's commanded his fast balling out of that same tunnel that splitter comes and the bottom just falls out of it judge rips that one isbel makes the grab and that's the third out but two come across to score in the inning courtesy of this two-run Homer it's now 7 nothing back after this on the show back for more from the Bronx we go to the top of the fifth and now Julie [Applause] gel bford back to work well every pitcher wants run support and having a lead is nice but it can be challenging for some pitchers I think keeping the mindset to attack instead of trying to be too fine and have too much finesse go after hitters and get quick outs next offering is down low the only adjustment he needs to make is his Target if you aim at the outside corner that slider's going to end up way off the plate perhaps look a little more down the middle and you get it right where you want it guelle gets a [Applause] piece and the pitch swing and a ground ball out to short throw on to Rizzo and the lead offense set down in their half of the fif well he's doing a nice job of keeping the ball out of the air lets the defense work behind him with another ground ball good execution here's the second baseman grounded out his first time and ball one activity in the bullpen Ron Marino appears to be getting ready and I'm sure he's feeling some nerves this would be his major league [Applause] debut the pitch that's outside and it's two and0 one down base is empty right through there for a strike nasty two- slider there for a strike that tells you he's got a lot of confidence in that pitch at the belt and fires swinging a foul back that's out of play [Applause] in the air on the infield under it and makes the grab two down that was a good hard fastball with some nice ride up in the zone right there hitter looked like he was on it but I think that velocity at the end just beat him instead of a line drive or something hit deep it's a pop up and an easy out for the defense iSell in the box now as he looks at ball one second plate appearance of the day for [Applause] him on the ground to the left and foul ball two down nobody on late on that fast B looking just a strike away from five shut out [Applause] Innings popped in the air left field and that is that back to the Bronx bottom of the inning here's the catcher Austin Wells Austin well the right hter back to work that misses and that is ball one you know these Yankees putting together some really good at bats in this game there's been a lot to like with how they're approaching their chances at the play it looked to me like they really wanted to get to the starter early get him out of the game before he settles in so I'd say mission accomplished that one fouled off and a ball in two strikes and that one is inside [Applause] [Music] spoils that one and it remains two and two [Applause] [Applause] spoils the two- strike pitch and he'll see [Music] another righty delivers foul ball and another two two upcoming Five foul balls in a row I have no idea what that feels like but you got to love this battle just wondering who's going to Blink first and now it's filled [Applause] up and he walked him it wasn't easy but he earned that walk after a long at bat oh he earned his trip to first right there it's not easy laying off pitches that just missed like that and it's a real discipline as well he's put a lot of work into that aspect of his game and it paid off right there foul ball [Music] there Wells gets his lead at first nobody [Music] out that's in there and a count is 0 and two two is the count [Applause] and that just misses really good take especially with two [Applause] [Applause] strikes here's a one-w two balls two strikes sets him down on strikes fast ball to letters froze him for strike three up and it first and stepping in for the Yankees Jazz Chism Jr one for two swing in a Miss as he was out front count man at first one away [Applause] there's a strike started after it appeal to Third and that's going to be ruled the swing and here is Anthony Rizzo first B Anthony Rizo check swing he held up ball one counts one [Applause] and0 there's a [Applause] strike ring right field base hit Thro stops the lead runner at second two on and two out number 11 solid swing from start to end on time with everything really good balance nice extension and he made it out front for the line drive KN and now the short stop Anthony vulpi the short stop takes the ball two on two outs and there's a foul [Applause] ball that one drilled left field and that's just foul first and second two [Applause] down swing and a highfly ball to left Melendez drifts towards it brings it in and that will end the inning yank strand a pair but they're still in control it's seven nothing back in the Bronx all set for the top of the six here's Tommy fam the pitch F goes 6 foot one 225 lbs usually in left but today he's starting in right field kick Sandos towards first Rizzo takes it to the bag now one gone the top of the six the bat number seven short Bobby Whit Bobby Whit J at the dish now he committed to play for the University of Oklahoma where his dad went before the Royals changed his mind he would have been the number one overall pick in most drafts as a high schooler he won a gold medal with Team USA and was named the 2019 Gatorade national baseball player of the year the pitch hammered down the right side but foul [Applause] swing and a pop [Applause] up Torres makes the grab two up two down now B the designated hitter Michael maew two out Bas is empty Michael Massie steps in for the [Applause] Royals the bit behind with that swing it's strike one oh this guy on the Mountain's done a lot better than we would have expected and the hitters just don't seem to have the right game plan they're taking too many mistake pitches for C [Applause] strikes the one in the air left side for Dugo sizes this one up nabs it and that is that so another good inning for him on the mound six shutout Innings now it's the Yankee seven and the Royals nothing Sam long to pitch out of the pener they need someone to stop the bleeding and keep the score right where it is seems like a tough task today with the way this lineup is so digging in Alex Vero he's over for one as he turns on the rubber here with that good live arm delivers foul ball the wi to the pitch fires in a fast ball at 95 misses off the inside and the count one and two left-and hitter Waits foul ball still a one and two count check swing and that's a ball that pitch wasn't even close and they still got a check swing out of it he's going to have to make an adjustment and make it fast that one misses Full Count three and [Music] two swings through that and it's a strike out lead off man retired in the six just indecisive in that at bat he couldn't commit to the slider try to sit in between just not able to put the bat on the ball Torres in the box with one away as he takes ball one activity in the Kansas City Bullpen Chris Stratton getting loose out there hard hit left side in plenty of time to first two up two down fast groove right down the middle usually a lot of damage done with that pitch a hard grounder but he wanted to get that ball in the air maybe drive it into the Gap next to hit Juan sto he's already homered here in this one in the air left field and that should be extra bases now he'll turn for second it's a double and he's three for four tonight and his hot hitting continues they kept him in the yard that time but all he's doing now is passing the Baton and everything seems to get started around this guy here is a judge ball one no [Applause] strikes runner at second two down here in the bottom of the six and judge spoils that one [Music] man it's second and another ball [Applause] one next one misses and that's ball three swing and a line drive curling foul down the right [Applause] side got him looking for the K the Yanks leave one and they hold a seven nothing [Applause] lead top of inning number seven and now now the catcher comes up to here Salvador Perez this pitcher has done a good job of disrupting the hitters timing with the mix of pitches and changing speeds you want to keep that front foot inconsistent for the batter their swings are hesitant and that's exactly what you want on the mount not sure if he was exped for the pitcher to come right at him but he got a nice cookie there and just watched it the entire way that one finds the corner that is strike two activity in the bullpen for the yanes Tommy Keeley getting loose out there for Aaron Boon lighter also getting ready and that one's a little bit low and the count is one and two you can tell by their swings this lineup is having trouble gauging speeds timing is everything in hitting and right now they just don't have it yeah that's too high [Applause] [Applause] and the right-hander deals swing and a miss and he struck him out and one gone that was a tough slider right there he couldn't get a piece of it just to try to keep thebat alive and hitters will tell you that slider when a guy's able to really tunnel the pitch where it looks like a fast ball and then late has a really good bite so tough to lay off of because you've made the decision you don't want to get beat by a fast and then you swing and you miss you go back to the Dugout shaking your head Melendez in the Box again takes a strike the Royals with a lot of ground to make up here in the top half of inning number seven next offering is fouled back not even close there and that's ball one [Applause] one down base is empty and a base hit up the [Applause] middle could get any air under it but he smoked that ball back up the middle timing was just perfect got great wood on it and there was just no chance for the infielders with how hard he hit it so a man aboard now the third baseman Paul D young sliced hard but foul he'll one swinging a foul over the screen and back out of play and a pitch he goes down looking man at first and next up for the Royals Julie [Applause] gelel right through there for a strike kicks and fires fought off [Music] foul two outs pitch misses there ball one his understanding the strike zone very impressive that was a very close o02 fast ball I just don't know how you take just missing there the count now two and [Applause] [Music] [Applause] two out to short vulpi they get the first and that is the inning Royals lead one they continue to Trail seven nothing [Applause] back at Yankee Stadium set for the last half of the seventh and here's the catcher Austin Wells well long back to work and there's a ball ball one no strike ripped to short and the lead off hitter set down to open to seven now B the designated hitter John Carlo St John Carlos Stanton at the plate 0 for three with two strikeouts and a fly out that one finds the Zone that's strike one B is empty one away here at the bottom of the seven the pitch hard hit to third slings it across and a couple of quick outs now bat third BAS Jaz chis J two outs Bas is empty here's the third baseman Jazz Chisum Jr one for [Applause] three just off the outside edge and it's w to know and another ball two down nobody on and there's a hit two outs runner at first Anthony Rizzo steps to the plate gets the call one one here comes a pitch now a check swing but he held up nice job to keep the hands back on that one out in front just a little bit Chism the runner at first with two [Applause] gone swinging a miss one and two I think he was a little excited there saw the fast but needed a step ladder to get to that one he's going to have to tighten it back up he wants to have a good at B bouns it off still one and [Applause] two and he deals and a swinging a miss that ends the [Applause] frame welcome back in a new arm of the mound to start the eight Mark lighter Jr compared to some days this is a pretty low leverage appearance for him so he should be fairly free and easy out there still have to keep yourself sharp and attack the strike zone now it's the second basas City the second Bas Michel Garcia the wine of the pitch right through there for a [Applause] strike Off the Mark there and one and one right-handed reliever swinging a foul straight [Applause] back and now it's even [Applause] up C on and Miss struck him out and that's one away as the lead off man is out in the E Kyle Isbell steps in for the Royals you talk about Elite defensive players especially in the middle of the diamond and this guy is at the top of the list and that's in for a strike and you played behind guys and they loved having your speed out there defensively one of the things that we talk about is how much pitchers enjoy having those Elite Defenders behind him and a one1 and that one fouled off H and the one thing about that is speed never goes in a slump and defense shouldn't either hitting wise you can struggle you can lose your mechanics but the thing that you can do consistently every single game is play great defense if you're talented in that way and this is what this guy does twings and misses it's a strike out two up two down here at the top of the eight now back to the top of the lineup Tommy fam the next to [Applause] hit 1 two outs swing and a highfly ball down the right field line stto makes the grab and that'll end the inning this one pretty well decided at this point home half of inning number eight straight ahead it's the Yankee seven and the Royals nothing back down new picture on the mount as we roll into the bottom of the eight Chris Strat and with the big deficit on the scoreboard he almost has to just put out of his mind every outing matters for relievers in their numbers but I think it's tough to get up for this type of appearance the same way you for one in a close game stepping in Anthony vul over for three a fly out of ground out and a strike out and the pitch and it's fou away he'll one foul back ourway and that's out of play and the pitch fights that one away and the count remains o and two [Applause] and here it comes battling here as he fouls it away also really good at bat what I like about this guy his Bat stays in the zone for a long time gives him the ability to foul off tough pitches here's the 02 and that's outside [Applause] foul ball left side he'll see [Music] [Applause] another swing and a miss for the strike out had him way out front of the slur the leel number and up next for New York Alex Verdugo a strike out and a walk [Applause] and a foul [Applause] ball and the pitch bottom of the zone and a called strike meanwhile activity in the bullpen John shriber up a throwing one down base is empty got him looking and he did not like the call no that's not the best two- strike fastball I've seen but certainly got away with the location there sometimes as a hitter and you're down in the count you're so focused on a pitcher pain in the black and you just get a little bit locked up on something down the heart of the plate not expecting it and it just kind of freezes you Torres in the box with two gone and takes a look at a called strike they tried to get him to chase on a slider down and Away the yanies up big in this one here the bottom half of the eighth [Applause] inning that's in there one and two [Applause] swing and a miss struck him out and good work there as he gets a one two [Applause] three here at new Yankee stadium in the Bronx and the batter will be the short stop Bobby Whit Jr lighter measures 6 feet even 210 lb and they traded for him earlier this year swag in a line drive base hit out of the center field so Runner aboard to start the inning everything came together for him that's about as textb as it gets got his stride and load out of the way early he stayed inside that ball and squared it up out front man that was like he was in the cage Hitting off a te next to hit Michael Massie and immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter well the late off man gets on you want to minimize the threat by playing sound defense hopefully the pitcher can get a ball on the ground and they can roll him up for two swing and a miss two ground ball could be two off balance feed there's one but safe at first it's a fielder's Choice tough play right there didn't really have enough time to set his feet and make a strong accurate throw had to rush it but he got it off and he got it there in time to get that out at second base Salvador Perez getting ready to hit three strikeouts already he's over for three breaking ball in there for a [Applause] strike Massie leads off first with one [Applause] away and there's a breaking ball to drops in there ball two St righty to the plate struck him out looking Royals down to their final out the left number one MJ mendz steps in for the [Music] [Applause] Royals and a foul ball the Royals with a lot of ground to make up here at the top of the [Applause] night this one high in the air to left Center he's got it ball game the Yankees use two pitchers to combine for the shut out we saw complete domination in this one the offense exploded for a blowout and then the pitching staff Nails locked down the opponent this team did everything right today this one ends 7 nothing for Chris Singleton and our entire outstanding crew here at MLB the Show I'm John shami saying so long [Applause]
