because well um as we know the University of Tennessee Big Time favorites in this football game sitting at 38 and A2 Point favor with that total of 56 and A2 uh here in segment number one I'm going to give you my score predictions my keys to the game all that and more here coming up in segment one then in segments two and three going to chat with my buddy Boogie Bentley and if you guys are every day or as you know that Boogie joins me for a couple of segments every Friday there in football season of course he's the host of The Talk invols network over on YouTube they've got a ton of subscribers they do a lot of good stuff over there so we'll have Boogie Bentley here in segment 2 and three and they're not going to lie um we have reached the end of talking season there's nothing else to talk about so we talk a little bit about football uh we get off the rails and talk about stupid commenters on YouTube we're a little all over the map but I think sometimes those are some of the the best shows because you get to see some of our personalities even more so all that and more coming up here on a Friday show all right so Tennessee getting set to take on Chad NOOA for the season opener and uh just in case you forgot remember this is the Smokey gray game Tennessee's uh debuting this year's um iteration of the Smoky Grays the TriStar there on the on the sleeve you got Tennessee across the chest plate um you've got uh the TriStar on the orange strip of the helmets um you've got the state of Tennessee logo with the TriStar there on the pants and if you're watching on YouTube I'm I'm flashing up a lot of the uh the the pictures of the jerseys um this is what you should expect to see at nean Stadium on Saturday and it's it's going to be fun um I love how they've done this Smokey gray series um each and every year kind of changing some things up and I'm not a huge fan of it being here for the uh for the season opener I know last year technically it was for the home opener as well uh but kind of get it in get it out of the way and then focus on the the big opponents where of course you're going to wear orange and white and Tennessee will wear black later in the season I would assume it's going to be somewhere around Halloween it's almost a given it's always that Kentucky game but nonetheless Smoky Grays you have that to look forward to here on Saturday for the season opener so uh Tennessee Chad noua gave you a bit of a scout on Monday but just briefly um they were a playoff team a season ago in FCS uh they went to the second round they lost to Ferman who they also lost to in in Southern Conference play um they lost two games in the regular season by a combined Five Points um really really good football team first time they went back to the FCS playoffs since 2016 the quarterback Chase arpus um formerly of UNLV UCLA excuse me UCLA came over first year with Chattanooga last year and let him to the playoffs he threw for over 2600 yards lost some stuff in the Run game lost their best receiver but do bring back two starters at wide receiver bring back a seventh year tight end bring back four starters on the offensive line Williams Reed is an all Southern Conference Center and he kind of leads the way at center right there for the mogs defensively they lost a little bit at every single level they lost two really productive players on the defensive line to the transfer portal they bring back an all conference defensive lineman bring back Alex Williams their leading tackler at linebacker bring back a three-year starter at safety as well um but this is a a well-rounded pretty good football team for Rusty Wright head coach of the MOX um they were preseason ranked nine and eight in two of the polls for FCS so a top 10 team at that level level but again this is a a game where Tennessee should just should just run right through him again that spread according to fanduels at 38 a half at the time of this recording with a total at 56 A2 so official score prediction for um me here on lockon balls um I've got Tennessee winning 55 to13 and again in this the these these score predictions are impossible in games like this um but because there can be an excuse me touchdown later on there can be a cheap one giv up I mean Tennessee is going to be playing a ton of players in this football game but I do expect Tennessee to cover the spread and I'm I'm not comfortable usually picking a team to cover a spread that's any more than like 25 26 but in a game like this that's exactly what should happen just because it's uh just overshadowed that being Tennessee of of UTC so um that's my official score prediction I've got Tennessee winning 55 to13 over UTC so what are my keys to the game what should Tennessee want to accomplish in this football game well first and foremost I think Tennessee needs to have a clean operation on offense early in the season um you see teams that often you know have pre- snap penalties false starts um delay of games that shouldn't happen for Tennessee using Tempo but kind of stuff like that and then you know pre- snap but also when you get into the snap you know you're going to be tired um this is their first game action you're going to be huffing and puffing sometimes when you're tired you get lazy you hold um you have false starts need to have a clean operation offensively and um you know try try to try to limit those mistakes because I mean you're going to make mistakes in a football game you're going to miss an assignment you're going to drop a football you're going to miss a coverage whatever you know those mistakes are going to happen that's Ball but what you can control is your operation is you know pre- snap penalties uh laziness with your Technique that leads to penalties and pass interference or Holdings or whatever so would love to see a clean operation for the University of Tennessee in this football game number one number two want to see some explosive plays want to see explosive plays on offense want to see takeaways on defense offensively in a game like this I characterize explosive plays and we'll talk about this on Monday show um when we come back and kind of re recap everything that was on Saturday I characterize explosive plays of 15 yards or more on the ground than 20 yards through the air I better see a ton a ton of explosive plays offensively for Tennessee from from Nico from the backs and Dylan Samson Deshawn Bishop cim Seldon Lewis um receivers Brew thoron Brazzle squirrel you know all those guys defensively I want to see some takeways um you know Chase artus is a pretty solid quarterback um obviously a division one quarterback that went down to FCS which is still division one but you know FBS quarterback that transferred down had a really good year last year with the mocks um I don't know how much he's going to challenge Tennessee over the middle I don't know how much he's going to challenge Tennessee down the field but I want the pressure to be up there in his phase for forcing uh ill decisions ill time throws poor decisions ill time throws um and I want the defensive backs to go get it I want Bo Carter Chase Harrison to uh to to go to go um to go and get it right um Christian Harrison not Chase Harrison I want to see you know tennessy safeties that we've been talking about all off season go and make some plays and maybe create some separation I'd love to see those quarterbacks that I'm high on and jond McCoy and Ricky Gibson to go out there and ball out so um exposive plays offensively takeaways defensively and then number three get in get out empty the bench get in get out empty the bench Tennessee should play every player every single player who's in uniform on Saturday okay remember you got the red shirt rule means people can play in four games players can play in four games and no more you're qualify for a red shirt everybody that is dressed on the sideline and is available needs to play in this football game I'm talking true freshman I'm talking guys who will go on in red shirt I'm talking veterans that um don't get often get to play a lot Navy Schuler should be the last quarterback on the field he should get an opportunity to go out there and play games like this is when you reward if you take care of business which you what you should which you better you reward those guys that put in the work every single day in the off season put in the work at practice guys on Scout team that give your gu to give your team a look that help prepare the starters for Saturdays it's games like this where you go and reward those guys so this should be a big time win for Tennessee this should should be a good season uh opening victory for the volunteers and of course everybody's thinking about next week but enjoy it on Saturday it's one of seven games at nand Stadium this year I believe one of 12 regular season games nothing's ever guaranteed and we only get so many football games in the fall and then we spend eight months in the offseason talking about it right so enjoy tomorrow for sure don't look ahead to NC State we'll talk you I'm fired up man we get to see them hit somebody else in a different color uniform we were kind of laughing right before we hit the old record button we've been talking about the same talking points for months we finally have football we finally get to see Nico man I I made a video yesterday morning and Josh hpel during V calls talking about how this Playbook is going to be wide open I think I think we're not only going to see an offense similar to 2022 calling my shot shooting my shot I think it's going to be better than 2022 46 point 4 45 points a game and gosh I forgot how much total low it was I mean that that was pretty good that led the nation so you think it's going to be better let me clarify points points per game wise that's going to be tough with the changes to the clock and everything I don't think we'll see that again but I'm talking as far as efficiency and what they're bringing to the table we've talk we've talked about the tight ends how they're getting them involved they're opening up the middle of the field that that's something that hyp will said on ball calls too he was talking about how you know Nico's accurate over the middle and that was a big problem for Joe throw a dart at the dart board Joe just didn't have it and you know kudos to this staff kudos to this staff because they they Joe was the starter and they tried to dumb down this offense so that Joe Milton could have the most success in it so I don't blame them for that I think that's smart but now we're wide open we are full steam ahead we're at Talladega with no restrictor plates doing 220 down the backstretch let's go I'm ready I'm ready what is success i' I've asked this to everybody this week what is success for Tennessee in this game outside of the final score you want coach speak or do you want uh Boogie speak do you want Die Hard passionate psychotic voice of the commentary give me Boogie speak I hear coach speak enough I am sick and tired of going into a cupcake like a Chattanooga or a Kent State or whoever we go into a cupcake game and we make excuses and we come out of the game we go well it was a vanilla game plan ker we only scored 28 points because it was a vanilla game plan it's Chattanooga and it's Tennessee I don't care if we go out and we run inside Zone 72 times we should do it we should do it efficiently and we should put up 50 points on Chattanooga on Saturday so I just don't want to come out of that game with excuses of being basic and vanilla of course we're going to be basic in vanilla but that should be good enough how many times have we done that in the past not necessarily against you know with Josh hyp coaching the football team but how many times did we do that under under puit or especially puit good Lord we went out and lost to games we we weren't even coming out saying it was Vanilla we lost to Georgia State none of that none of that the Austin P game last year was the crown jewel of that I mean it was just I mean you know and some of that's players in my opinion I mean you go to you go to a game like that you have a mindset and you're not ready to roll I'm not saying that that's how it was the entire locker room wide but I mean obviously you weren't motivated to play you weren't motivated to get out there and get stuff done and I mean it was just such a such a gross football game and so yeah I'm with you I mean it doesn't matter if you run if you don't run trap left trap right if you don't run you know 32 counter whatever you should not score every play but you should run it down their throats and you should run up the score um so I'm expecting I mean the spread is 38 and a half I'm taking the over I think this going to be a big win a big win Point wise for Tennessee yeah I think we're going to come out talking about just how good Nico is maybe maybe maybe some people are going to see how good this defense is and again it's Chattanooga so whatever you say all next week really isn't going to matter as you get ready for NC State but I like that I like the way the schedule's laid out you know you got a cupcake now we're going to up the Annie just a little bit for NC State then you got another game to get ready before you go take on Oklahoma and I think I said this when you were on the show with me Monday morning I this feels eily similar to 2022 when you look at the way the schedule's laid out and you look at the way week by week Tennessee can take on a little bit tougher opponent continue to build momentum and then week by week the stakes get higher and then the next thing you know Alabama's rolling into nean stadium and Tennessee six- and0 I think this is setting up for a fun season let's stay on this UTC game first who who's a who's a young guy that you're most intrigued most excited to watch um take Nico out of the equation it could be a freshman could be just someone that didn't play a lot last year who's the young guy you're pumped to watch oh man a young guy guy cuz I I'm going can I go the opposite can I cheat I can talk about a young guy too I'm excited for Keenan peely man I'm excited for Keenan peely I'm excited for brew McCoy and yeah that's that's really not answering your question but guys that you know bouncing back they play a lot last year so yeah they're bouncing back from injury get their feet wet I think you know this coaching staff was so high on Keenan peely and then for brew McCoy he was one of the first names out of Nico's mouth man that he wanted to come back for this last ride in 2024 but young guy give me Ethan Davis how about Ethan Davis man I I think he has the opportunity to be a big- time playmaker we talked earlier about Nico and his accuracy across the middle I think you're going to get the tight ends involved and I think we've seen you know those two guys connect before in the spring games and playing backyard football rolling out making plays down the field I I think Nico and Ethan Davis uh could have a nice little connection I think he's a guy that we'll be talking about coming out a Saturday Boogie you say you're the voice of the common Tennessee fans so let me ask you this when you see will Brooks line up a you when you see Christian Harrison line up at Star tomorrow what's going to be going through your mind I'm going to be shaking my head and saying is Will Brooks really the best guy and I hate I hate to be like that I hate to say that but it's will Brooks and he's a walk- on and yes he's a guy that's played a lot of meaningful SEC football he's a veteran guy but it concerns me it concerns me because is that the best guy that we can roll out there at safety now Christian Harrison at Star you know I think he's got it in his blood to be a pretty dang good football player so I don't really I don't really have as much concern there I think you're going to see Harrison and buard of course we're going to see everybody on Saturday against Chattanooga but that one doesn't concern me as much as maybe will Brooks does and it's it's interesting because you know a big question I asked when jacobe Thomas transferred from MTSU is is he ready is he ready for SEC football there's a big difference between going out there and playing for MTSU and coming and starting for the University of Tennessee and I didn't know if he was ready to make that jump a lot of Buzz a lot of hype people talking about the way he played against alab last year I get it clearly this coaching staff doesn't trust him is is that a Tim Banks thing you know we we laughed about tank Mulla the guy played at the University of Tennessee for 17 years made it to the NFL I think he's 43 years old but hey made a starting roster right he made a starting roster I mean that you don't you not a starting roster an NFL roster you don't make ANL yeah you don't make an NFL roster by not being good at what you do but yeah I I'm I I get it I'm not in full-blown meltdown mode like some of the people are on the en quarters but I'm not excited about will Brook starting at safety I want to get into more of those vs that made NFL rosters in segment two I I did a segment on it earlier in the week and it was like so like the cut off was like what was it like Monday or Tuesday at four o'clock Eastern I recorded the show like at 5 o'clock and in my mind I'm like okay this can all change like like this is just the first round like you know we'll see who the other teams cut they can cut this guy go pick up this guy so like I just said like this guy made this team this guy that and I didn't put the disclaimer there like hey this could all change so there's a couple things I want to make up for but uh that's a good point I mean jayen McCulla makes her roster and you know for will Brooks like I mean you want to root for him because I think it's a great story I think it's an awesome story um but I want to see what jacobe Thomas looks like I want to see what Christian Charles looks like coming back from injury because he's been getting some more buzz and you know Le going into week one I think Christian Charles might be ahead of John Slaughter in the pecking order right now which um I would not have guessed a couple weeks ago so I'm intrigued to see what that secondary kind of looks like um look at the defensive front man obviously all those guys are going to play ores ORS ORS or ORS who's a young defensive lineman or just a defensive lineman in general outside of James Pierce that you think is gonna have a good year maybe have a good day tomorrow Tyreek West not a young guy right he's a junior but he's a guy that I felt like really started to come along last year the dep chart has him as a junior is he a junior he's a junior Tyre West yeah he's got to be a sophomore He's listed as a junior on the depth chart no let me check it I've got the roster pulled up right here he's a junior he's a junior Kaner we could since when hey uh Hey somebody in the back room edit this out clean this thing up for Kaner I know he's a rookie we'll get him up to speed Ty West it was it was yeah I forgot about because he was the they got him on uh national Signing Day actually in that that 2022 okay well yeah that I mean it kind of you know you saying he's he's a sophomore right he's a sophomore I mean kind of tells you like he was a huge get I'm pretty sure the video that I made when he committed was Garner gets another big fish like that was a big deal and then he's kind of been quiet but at the end of last year I think even particularly in the bowl game I felt like he started to come along and just man you just run down the depth chart and we kind of laugh at the ores that that defensive line unit that's pretty realistic sign me up for that Caleb Herring I'd be all right if he's out there with the ones but you know it's going to be James Pierce Joshua Joseph's uh Jord man I want to see Jordan Ross make some plays right we're all excited about him you know I I went out on a limb and took him in in the the locked on talking balls draft we did that was a fun show I think he's going to be special and I would like to see some confirmation on that on Saturday but gosh just so deep man and then you know a guy like Jason Jenkins that that you know talked about entering the portal and Coach G was like you know ideally I wanted to Redshirt him but he's done so did make an NFL roster rough day for some for a portion of the Tennessee fan base rough day tough day um am I trying to say Jaylen McCulla was an All-American here no he was not he had limitations absolutely I'm not blind I understand that was he as worse as everybody said he was heck no nowhere close the fact that that guy made in the NFL roster should show you that hey maybe maybe maybe Tim Banks knows what he's doing just my two cents uh but him Joe Milton's gonna make the roster he had a horrible preseason but good for him uh hendon's going to be the backup in Detroit that's awesome um couple other surprises I had him written down the other day but overall oh veis Jones made the roster as a running back I love that he had a really good preseason uh overall thoughts on some of these Fringe vfl making NFL rers I'm I'm happy for Joe man and I know we we we throw darts at the dart board and we we take Jabs at Joe all the time but you couldn't ask for a better person you couldn't ask for a better teammate than Joe Milton so you know sign me up ker when when we have a nine- win season we go eight and four and win a bowl game to get to nine wins and we're we're talking about how terrible this quarterback is he's the worst quarterback in the history of Tennessee football and he gets drafted and he makes an NFL roster sign me up for that sign me up for rfl years to be that good uh you who else uh Jaylen Wright obviously made the Dolphins R Keaton made the Raiders good for him yeah that D Williams made the Seahawks I'm looking at the actual V Quest article okay oh hubs did it hubs did it I thought this was definitely a gr Grant Remy special do do you all just make Grant Remy go roll around the internet and write articles about the most generic things but it's great it's great but I use his articles a lot I do too it's that 247 background dude I mean that's just like I mean like he we don't ask him to do any of that he just does it it's incredible but like I make a joke in our game Quest podcast that'll come out uh at some point today over on bqu I'm like yep the total sitting at like 10 and a half articles that great Ramy will write on Saturday and he's like oh way over it's opening day way over oh I love it I love it let's see Jor small was cut by the Titans but he'll be retained on the practice squad say same with Gabe Judy LLY the Titans have no cornerback so I'm actually a little surprised that Gab GD Lai didn't make the team because the Titans have any cornerbacks but um he'll be on the practice squad Aaron Beasley gosh man it's like so many vs play for the Panthers um Aaron Beasley was cut by the Panthers K Haden did that surprise you that he got cut very I actually said shocked by that I said in my show the other day like we know Kamal Hat's making the team yeah yikes uh very surprised that he did not make the team to be honest with you yeah that was a big one that stood out to me but uh man it's how many this this what about this question how many guys get drafted from this 2024 roster somebody somebody asked me over under it 10 and I pulled up the depth chart that's a that's a pretty dang good number I mean got a lot of guys I don't think any of the tight ends will get drafted right now not no left tackle not yet no left guard Cooper will get drafted that's one spragens get drafted that's two we'll see about Campbell he is so old for the sake of I think he gets drafted I really do I really do for the sake of but I'll say he gets drafted that's three McCoy get drafted that's four thoron depends on the year for thoron yeah he the year um right now I'm gonna hold him out though because but I think he can you know my thoughts on him so where are you at right now you're at four I'm at four and I'm done I'm done on offense okay y Pierce is five um if Joseph's goes off he could get drafted this year but I'm not going to count him right now amori 6 Bry e May maybe om more Norman lot for sure I'll say e so you're at what eight yeah Keenan peely is so old like some of these guys that I'm counting right now like they'll get chances they might not get drafted but they'll get chance like Keenan peely will certainly be in a in a in a camp somewhere but like he's 278 years old or whatever I mean I don't know if anybody's going to draft him um and then that might be it that's probably it that's it so I'll say I'll say uh 10 or 10 and a half whatever you say say under but guys that could be in camps I might say over because I mean look at this last year I mean Tennessee had three guys drafted but you know Keaton and small and Beasley and Crawford and Judy Loi and Jacob Warren I mean all those guys were in Camp so um I just think it's going to be another good group I mean this team I at the end of the day when you look at all this stuff I mean it's proven that not only can Josh hyp evaluate talent his staff and he can recruit can lock him in and then develop I mean you know why when you cup all that in with winning here at Tennessee and the volunteer Club has this crap together I mean there's it's it's pretty it's a pretty Dynamic force on the recruiting show for Tennessee right now yeah it's it's a good thing man just seeing all those guys get opportunities and then looking ahead to two 2024 and and look look at the draft after 20 24 you got potential for James Pierce to be a number one draft pick is he I don't know we'll find out he's at least a top 10 draft pick but I mean there's a lot of people out there saying he's going to be the number one overall pick if Nico is who we think he is he could be the number one overall pick the following year we're talking backtack years Tennessee being the number one player in the draft that's huge that tells you the type of talent that's rolling through Knoxville right now go back to January of 2021 and think think about this Tennessee potentially is living in a universe where they could have back-to-back number one overall draft picks in in the next couple years I mean just nobody nobody nobody thought that nobody man we're saying six years to rebuild this thing and here we are complaining about a 8 and4 regular season in year three all right so we talked a little bit about what we're going to see tomorrow okay we talked a lot about stupid people in the YouTube comments that's just a small little fraction of the 99% that are amazing so thank you guys we talked about how my team beat your team in the draft that we did a couple weeks ago we talked about vfl in the NFL we were literally all over the map but I think it's great and again this is the last time we'll be all over the map before next Friday when we're talking about Tennessee what we saw from this past weekend of course getting a getting ready for a huge game uh in Charlotte against NC State yeah I'm excited to see NC State and I know they don't have a big game this week of course it happened last night if you're watching this on Friday morning I'm I'm excited to see what NC State's got I think Tennessee beat tenc state by a couple of scores but people around me in my circle wink wink nod nod how you doing coach J are terrified of NC State I'm not I think we uh beat him by a couple of scores but be fun to watch them or to have watched them last night at the time that you're watching this but yeah I'm ready for football man I'm ready I'm
