e e what is up everybody what is up if I could use one word for that game one word it would be ugly um sadly we have way more time to fill than just one word um ugly is not sufficient enough 4421 um on the surface it looks like LSU um dominated you know Garrett n SM throws for six touchdowns over 300 yards 27 of 37 really damn good game from him um LSU just barely Edge Nicholls 378 to 295 but if you really go into the numbers really actually watched the game LSU were terrible LSU were lucky to win this game LSU were lucky to to pull this out in the end it was all because of Garrett NES Meer it was all because of the passing attack LSU still could not run the ball with confidence even against Nicholls I am stunned by that I am stunned by it even with the lineup changes that LSU odyssey.com forecasted we had some sources that said PJ Woodland would start opposite Ashton stamps Sage Ryan would be moved back to free safety Whit weeks would start those changes occurred Tyrie Adams at left guard those changes all happened it all worked out just like we had said and really it didn't matter you saw Mistakes by PJ Woodland M tackle bad coverage you saw bad coverage Mistakes by Ashton stamps getting beaten on these big plays Jordan Gilbert major Burns once again making horrible busts you even saw Jordan Allen making mistakes tonight and he had a great first game it was all over the place all over the place from LSU's defense at one point Nicholl state had 17 minutes of possession to our eight minutes at one point it was 2321 let's show The Run let's show the run I don't want to get into trouble with any anything here so we're going to make it as small as possible but my God you just saw some things tonight that just make you wonder about this team is this team as good as we thought is this team even close to the level that we we thought they could be not when you're allowing plays like that just this just a disgrace gugenheim gugenheim doing that to our defense LSU allowed 150 rushing yards to Nicholls State we let Nicholl State go six of 13 on third down they ran 60 total plays against us what is this the Lincoln riy offense USC ran 6 63 plays against LSU last week once again Nicholls runs 60 plays against our defense they average 4.9 yards per play 9.1 per completion 3.9 per rush we kind of clamped down on it in the end but we allowed Colin gugenheim to go for 145 rushing yards and then on the other side LSU running the ball 21 of 64 our leading rusher was Josh Williams and Caleb Jackson with 19 yards together 19 yards 19 yards for LSU's leading rushers tonight I mean we are lucky nus Meer just had some cramp or whatever it was and he was able to come back in the game because I'm not sure if we have a hope in Hell without him really like it is so we are right on that precipice as a team right now where things can go in a lot of different directions and things have gotten way out of control way out of whack really quick here you let that type of a game of a performance happen against Nicholls I know LSU got the win I know it looked better than it was in the end I don't care I saw the game I watch every play of this game the passing attack is great the pass blocking is superb we cannot run the football to save our lives and defensively you saw a lot of the same mistakes you saw last year it was unreal unreal I mean take a look at this look at this photo again how many times have we seen that image of a big whiff by major Burns when is this when when are we going to figure it out and stop playing this you know you have seniority you're a veteran over a young cat who is gonna at least slow that guy down there was mistakes from all over the place though it wasn't just from One Source there was mistakes all over the place I mean you even saw this you even saw a drop from Lacy which I mean he's he said all offseason I'm the number one receiver he's proven it but then he's doing the same stuff the same stuff we've seen from him for for years here these key drops I I don't get it I know he has three touchdowns in the game he is LSU's number one receiver this year but my God what is it with these drops I don't understand the drops I don't understand the issues the continued issues from LSU I don't understand the fact that we let Nicholls do this this is the biggest play in the game right here LSU were in a dog fight until this play allowed us to separate Woodland allows another catch Jordan Gilbert almost decapitates his own teammate here like are you kidding me Jordan Gilbert he can't even tackle the right guy he has to smash somehow gets up gets the ball boom beautiful strip and and then secures that thing before the guy probably jumps on it and it goes the ball probably goes back 15 yards what a play Here by PJ Woodland watch this boom and then that was the play that really helped LSU create that separation until that moment though I mean this game was truly a nightmare in a lot of situations where you had an injury to Jacobian Giller where he was in a wheelchair at one point nus me Lacy hbling it's just like how many more injuries are LSU going to be dealing with as well like it's just we were relatively healthy throughout the off season no big injuries at all and then John enry Jr Chris Hilton Jr nus barely gets out of this unscathed Kiren Lacy it seems is okay it's delinger is down as well like it's just how many more injuries are LSU going have to deal with this season the stats are ugly stats are ugly y'all yeah we only allowed 145 passing yards we only allowed 150 it is so bad the way we allowed these passing yards the way we allowed these big plays it's just it's just not good enough it's not even close to good enough and it's shocking to me that we played so well against USC in some in some good stretches had some good drivve some good moments way better than we all expected the defense played well enough to win us that game offensively we couldn't get it up right tonight we let Nicholls walk all over us Jamesy verus says long way to go Lis I'm completely disappointed absolutely I mean you you hobbled you you literally hobbled to victory tonight James you hobbled to Victory like literally figuratively metaphorically you hobble to Victory against Nicholls and you already have a loss on the board against USC a team that was supposed to be soft supposed to be a team that we could manhandle ready for the fist fight and a team that physically manhandles us I mean I rewatched the game once again yesterday and it was just blown I was just blown away by how many times that like we were allowed to be out executed or like the other team was able to just make the play and we could not withstand it we could not respond and make our own it was stunning to me Blake baker has his work cut out for him yes um it looked good in week one it looked really good it looked it looked very promising it looked like okay you know we we knew there would be some mistakes they're playing lincol Lincoln riy offense and then you thought tonight it' be like six points 10 points maybe 14 at the most they had what almost 20 I think was 21 right after half pushed LSU to the brink here killed us on third down we only got that one turnover I don't think LSU had a sack tonight let me look at that I don't remember LSU even getting a sack tonight nope zero sacks for LSU against Nicholls State zero sacks two tackles for loss one for Braden Swinson one for PJ Woodland and um a half sorry two and a half a half of tfl for West weeks unreal just a single SLE quarterback hit the entire night from parisan zero sacks two tfls one single quarterback hit just three passes broken up two from Z Alexander one from Deshawn Spears it's not good enough it's not even close to good enough and you saw some changes on the defensive structure you saw some things that okay maybe maybe this is the way forward no it's hard to say this is the issue this is the issue that's the issue it's almost just like these guys aren't playing good enough these these players these coaches everybody is just off 64 rushing yards from LSU 64 rushing yards Chris milder what's up Chris our man Chris milder says Jan Joan Johnson who who was making some plays out of the back field had a a nice little dump off in the in the flat for a touchdown his first game is a running back Chris milder says Joan look good nus goes down we are screwed gotta play the young guys but a w is a w yes a win is a win but this actually reveals a lot about LSU in in a lot of ways what kind of team we are like this is a game where it's like where where are you going to go from here is this going to be kind of the Rock Bottom moment where it's like we could have fooled around and really let another Troy situation happen here we could have really Fooled Around and let this thing get close it I mean it was close in the to start the second half but like this is the type of night where LSU was really just we were off it was ugly it was it was a hard watch NES Meer though saved the day G nesme those receivers Mason Taylor zavon Thomas with 114 return yards um that that was the difference Chris melder good question what happened to Shelton Samson we were told by Brian Kelly that Shelton Samson was literally a focal point of what they wanted to do in the passing attack a focal point that is a direct quote and Shelton Samson let's see Zero targets for Shelton Samson zero interceptions um we'll see what the snap count is for him when Pro Football Focus updates but wow focal point zero z00 Z CJ Daniels leads the way with 71 yards four catches he looked pretty damn good tonight um Kiren Lacy five catches 65 yards three touchdowns of of course that drop um Aaron Anderson five catches 63 yards he looked good once again Aaron Anderson looks like a very Speedy by you blur type of player that you you always hoped he could become always knew he had the talent to be he's seeming to put it together here and we need to get him the ball more just um six targets five catches zavon Thomas too five targets five catches 50 yards one touchdown zavon Thomas was LSU's biggest big biggest gainer on the day with 50 receiving yards 114 return yards big day for him 58 yard return um zavon Thomas was brilliant get him the ball more five targets five catches 100% conversion rate obviously the touchdown awesome in the return game get him the ball more Aaron Anderson get him the ball more Mason Taylor four catches 40 yards from five targets see it was all very effective here Joan Johnson three catches from three targets 16 yards one touchdown Javin Nicholas had that eight- yard catch that really good play that he could have broke and then you got this is kind of funny trade as green one catch one target for one yard yard for one touchdown oh that's hilarious one target one yard one catch one touchdown that just looks so funny on a stat line but tradez green gets his first LSU touchdown tonight Garrett nesm six touchdown passes 302 yards 2 7 at 37 W without nus Meer who knows where LSU would be seriously um he's such a baller he's such a gamer zero picks six touchdowns he threw one pass that could have been picked it was probably the only bad pass see through all night that I can really remember um LSU win this game because of that 21 Point third quarter and then we go scoreless in the entire fourth quarter LSU wins scoreless the entire fourth yes Nicholls State went scoreless the entire fourth and we held them to Seven Points the entire second half but LSU goes scoreless in the fourth quarter with our starters in the game that's that's another that's just another ugly stat from this game that's just another ugly ugly stat drunk Blake Baker what's up brother he says time to hit the panic button I mean maybe not panic button but worry Big Time worry because there's so much potential on this team but they're probably a year away and this game might be the thing that kind of proves that and just there's so much potential here there's so much explosive potential on the offense but when you cannot run the football 64 yards 64 yards a leading rusher of 19 yards damn we needed John John Emory to stay healthy damn we needed him why didn't why did we take care of Z Alexander's injury and his recovery more than we did John Emery jors notice that we were a lot more careful bringing zy Alexander back from his ACL tear than we were John Emy Jr why is that and why was John practicing just 12 hours Monday after a game where he really pushed that knee and I understand he he injured the other one but that's what happens when you when you have this double injury is because you're overcompensating on one to not um to hurt the other and that's what happened and it's just non- contct again and LSU were so close to an injury just Deluge again tonight it was so close to to nus going down and then Lacy going down we we know for a fact Jacobian Giller is hurt we don't know how bad L he is hurt we'll see what Brian Kelly um says about that in the press conference um just just a ugly ugly night if if if Brian Kelly isn't pounding the the the podium tonight it's just because he he's probably resigned to like this is just this is what we're going to be this year let's take a look let's see if um Brian Kelly has said anything anything here o did I just see Cal beat Auburn wow Cal triumphs over Auburn yep wow 21 carries for 64 yards with a long of 12 yards from that was from Josh Williams like just pathetic the rushing the rushing was pathetic tonight you can't you can't look at it any other way tonight really LSU yeah even the passing game was underwhelming because you're you didn't even have a guy get over 100 yards and I understand you want to there's a lot of melts de feat all that type of thing no LSU goes scoreless in the fourth quarter I think they just scored seven points nine points in the first quarter nine points in the in the first quarter and zero points in the fourth that's just a joke like I'm as big of an LSU fan as anybody win lose we're going to be there this is not Tiger football this is sloppy this is is ugly it's incomprehensible to me that we let nickel State push us around literally physically upfront push us around beat us up nearly knock our quarterback out of the game nearly knock our number one receiver out of the game knocked our number one defensive tackle out of the game like this is just this is not this is the last way you wanted this season to begin the last way you wanted the season be James E barus says I noticed some backups playing also at the beginning of the game I don't know what you're talking about maybe you're meaning that they had they did some lineup changes to try and see if they could figure out something um I'm not sure what you mean but they did uh have withit weeks in the game and has which was a smart decision from the start um they did play Sage Ryan at free safety which was better than him playing corner he I didn't see him make too many mistakes except for this one clear one where he completely got lost and completely got blocked and then he made the tackle on the play but just completely got lost on it really the main culprits tonight were once again major Burns PJ Woodland had some mistakes Ashton stamps made some mistakes there were missed tackles all over the place we couldn't run the ball we could not run block period we could not get a push zero sacks t two tfls one quarterback hit against nickel state is just never going to be good more the vonka D Silva my man hi from Sri Lanka it's Sunday morning here what do you think of the unimpressive wi of LSU well we're telling you we're telling you right now um Sanka this is not good in fact I need another cigarette it's not that it's it's that that's how bad it is this is an this is an ugly win you you just you're happy you get the win sure of course duh but this is nickel State we shouldn't be talking about being happy to get a win against nickel State like how low are we going to let the bar drop before we pay attention to the fact we're letting it just plummet where we're okay and we're satisfied with saying USC is actually a better team than we thought USC are actually tougher than we thought no we should always be tougher we should always be stronger we should always be more brutal than a USC team and that's the that's the Crux of the issue here is maybe we're just not as good as we think we are and that is down to some false ad ising all over the place that is down to some players who are just not delivering that is down to some coaches who are maybe delivering on the recruiting Trail but aren't delivering it on the on field development part of it I wish we had a war daddy like goo heims Trey Jameson I remember hearing that I remember hearing that commentary that was hilarious jamer says I'm not going to lie I had to take a trip to the daquiri shop during halftime you weren't alone I'm sure I'm sure you are not alone I cannot wait to hear some of the uh postgame show thoughts from some people because I'm sure they're going to be Savage um this was a diabolical performance for a lot of this game and yes we win the home open and Garrett NES Meer he just he just didn't really care what was going on and just put the pedal to the metal and delivered Victory but man the defense did everything they could to get in his way tonight it was shocking it was shocking to me here's a rare great play from the defense Braden Swinson with one of only two two and a half tfls on the night this was a great play sniffs that out boom that that was literally the face of the game that was the face of the game right there that was uh the emotion of the game James bur says I agree one one year away I mean it's looking like it it's looking like it I don't want to be that um negative so soon and just kind of throw the baby out with the bath water but it's looking like that baby might be uh Damian from The Omen right now and uh not quite be a baby but maybe a demon because oh my God we've got some if if we play like that in these close games we're going to lose a lot of close games this year it doesn't matter how many points Garrett NM puts up it really doesn't it doesn't matter how many touchdowns he throws for how many yards he goes for Jaden Daniels won a Heisman Trophy and still lost three games this year it could be more with with how things are where things are at the schedule how tight these games are going to be we know these games are going to be tight there is no excuse for going scoreless in the fourth quarter against Nicholls State there is no excuse for having zero sacks against nickolls State just two tfls one turnover created over two games and thank God we got that one because it changed the game tonight it's just it's it's not anywhere close to good enough it's it's just not even it's it's embarrassing at this point really and I'm wondering can the standard fall off further because LSU are going to lose another game here LSU are going to lose another game here somewhere and it might be sooner than we think but can this team continue to find its footing for maybe that 2025 push I'm not quite giving up on the 2024 push I'm not giving up on competing for a championship this year I'm not giving up on competing for a college worldall playoff even as crazy as it sounds we still have only one loss on the board it's just we're going to lose way more games than this if um we continue to play like this this is just this is so bad this is so this is heinous to see the defense keep regressing by the game and you've got such a damn good defensive staff by the names on paper this shouldn't be happening and then Jacobian gillery a big big time key player goes down you're so short on the dline already and now let's see if there's any update on um on a uh jaob and Giller here when's the Brian Kelly uh press conference [Music] starting I'm just I'm just I'm I'm blown away I'm Blown Away the LSU let this happen against Nicholls State I know there was still some big plays some big moments some big performances tonight but there's so much to be critical of so much to be just blown away by in a negative way like and you don't want to harp on the negative and get all down on this team and all this stuff you don't want to go in that direction it's hard to stay completely positive about the direction this team is going in when you just see an a performance like that it's hard to sit here and pump purple and gold sunshine and and rainbows and that everything is perfectly fine here when you're when you're seeing that kind of performance you're seeing the performances continue to regress under Brian Kelly and it's not a good thing because the staff has actually you you felt like you upgraded on the staff I mean it's it's impossible to say you didn't but you're not seeing it and you're not seeing the players react to it either you're seeing some good stuff happen you're seeing some improvements happen you're seeing some good signs here and there and then it it all gets undone it all gets unraveled it's really hard to know what to think of this team right now or where this team is going to be you know in October in November it is almost impossible to tell because it's going to come down to winning close games that's what I'm going to continue to say and I'm going to continue to harp on it will come down to winning close games and thank God we have Garrett nesm on our team thank God James if we play like this we're going to lose five or six games like we're not going to get away with it we're going to lose five or six games this year if we play like that we we'll get beat by A&M in a game we shouldn't lose we'll get we'll get sneakily beaten by them you know we could get upset by Arkansas in a close game that we shouldn't we should not be losing you know like this stuff can happen in the SEC when you're playing like garbage against a team like Nicholls State you know I mean we saw some great receiving performances we saw a great performance from nus Meer we saw some signs from Whit weeks some great plays by him it's just not good enough it's just not good enough what we're seeing out there 44 to 21 doesn't even come close to painting the the picture of this game really is more like a 28 to 21 victory in my book in my mind especially when you're talking about a team LSU playing an FCS team were shut out in an entire quarter the fourth quarter the most important quarter of all even though we we we took the lead and and took a a comfortable lead at the end of the third we coasted that entire fourth quarter we coasted against an FCS school we coasted and we okay with winning 44 to 21 because we didn't want to give them the ball back let's see what time of possession was in the end to 31 minutes to 28 minutes LSU got some back in the end with some longer drives milking the clock but my God they were killing us in time of possession 17 minutes to8 and a half at one point God the message boards are a buzz we'll um we'll show this uh comment by our guy Josh gillery here because this is very interesting he says this P this performance was disgraceful and disgusting Our Own Line got manhandled and unblocking our dline is an embarrassment I like that we use more skill guys this time using what we have in the cover perk nowhere to be found yeah he only had two tackles tonight we have no pass rush did I mention how bad our dline is our dline is underman Big Time underman we just do not have the bodies on defensive line we do not have just losing Jacobi and gillery is such a catastrophe for the defensive line you just you knew it would be and and here it is this soon against Nicholl State i t i tweeted earlier this is a nightmare scenario for LSU at halftime because it seemed like Garett NM was hurt luckily he came back we knew that Giller was hurt and was not in a position to be coming back we knew Lacy was shaken up and had already been shaken before the game it's just it's it's just too much too soon guys too much drama too soon it's exactly what this team needed to avoid was to open the season with toxicity negative Vibes fan base upheaval the team having some guys who are not satisfied not really settled in their positions kind of being us utilized all over the place a running game that is just completely inept I mean this is a team that was supposed to be able to run the ball down your throat you know and to see an offensive line with Will Campbell emry Jones miles Frasier Garrett delinger before tyriek Adams tonight get pushed around get pummeled get bossed only allow I mean sorry only go from 64 rushing yards on the night leading rusher of 19 yards without John hry Jr over two games let's look at the numbers [Music] let's look at the numbers because I bet it's bad okay LSU rushing against USC 113 yards was subtract so just 52 just 52 rushing yards without John Army Jr in that first game leading rusher of 33 yards and then tonight 64 Jesus we're gonna tweet that real quick e e e it's just one game it's just one game but it tells me so much more about this team than even the USC game because the USC game neutral side tricky opponent at least a ranked opponent you know it's a game where it was kind of a coin toss thing a lot of new blood in their in their debuts high profile all this stuff but you're at home week two against nickels State and you you you can't just put a complete performance together you can't just you can't just put a complete performance together for four quarters there's a lot of questions to be had for Brian Kelly not not fire Brian Kelly not get rid of Brian Kelly not fire the staff but they're they're he has a lot of questions to ask because the he Roose he he raised the bar immediately on arrival from that those dismal 2020 2021 Seasons right it seems even though we're getting these 10- win Seasons under Brian Kelly the bar is lowering in certain respects this season we cannot run the ball anymore as a program we cannot defend the pass anymore as a program the defensive line is just we we feared that this would happen in the defensive line we thought the defensive line looked good it looked good enough in week one we we held USC to just seven rushing yards for most of that game I mean there was a lot of good penetrations and good plays from that defensive line in week one and you see the complete opposite against Nichol State I think the common threat here is this team is going to be inconsistent it's going to be a wild season emotionally kind of a roller coaster maybe some injury issues we've already had some maybe some some Dam Dramatics late game Dramatics some close games all these games Arkansas Miss Texas A&M uh South Carolina you know maybe even UCLA you thought there was some games whereis she was going to get some some 44 to 14 wins some you know some unexpected beatdowns here I'm not sure if that's in in the carts anymore I think LSU are going to be lucky to win any close game they can like it's going to be really tight and LSU are going to really have to make play after play after play and hang in there and really take games over and and you cannot go scoreless in a fourth quarter you cannot go scoreless in a fourth quarter in any game let alone against Nichol State I cannot stress that enough how much of an anomaly that is in all the years I've been watching football paying attention stats I have never seen that kind of a just a zero completely Coast in a game where you're leading already by 23 points and you don't even score in the fourth quarter you just don't see it and it's because LSU were like actually lucky to be in that position we were gifted penalties at some crucial moments that killed drives for Nichols the turn over by P Woodland was the biggest play of the game I just tonight inexplicable errors inexplicable play surreal to see us struggling against Nicholls State in such a way it was hard to Fathom tonight we cannot get Caleb Jackson going running the football I don't understand why this guy was supposed to be plowing over people Trucking over everybody Going the Distance taking it to the Limit being an All-American and a thousand yard rusher he doesn't look anywhere near that Caleb Jackson 9 for9 tonight Caleb Jackson 9 for 19 tonight and then what are the evidence us see four for 20 or something like that five for 14 so Caleb Jackson 33 yards rushing over two games how can LSU get this running game going tell me how can LSU get the running game going what's the answer because LSU cannot just depend on Garrett nus throwing six touchdowns in over 300 yards every single game here we have to get the running game going if we want to win dou digit games this season if we want to be in the college ball playoff all these stuff that seems like a pipe dream when you're playing like that against Nichols how are we going to do it if Caleb Jackson is running for just 33 yards in two games there's no there's there's no dogs out there I don't see any fight I don't see any like hey that's a guy who's going to be the next Superstar at LSU that's going to be the next guy who's he's ready to ball he's ready to like there's guys who make plays even like a Kiren Lacy had three touchdowns T night but then he has these drops he only has 60 something yards he he's banged up every other play he's leaving his feet he's doing these things that are going to get himself hurt there's just there's there's the mentality of this team is weak right now the mentality of this team is soft right now you know how bad it hurts me to say that because I know a lot of these kids aren't soft I know these kids are just as dis disappointed 10 times more disappointed in this performance than we are I know the coaches are too but it should be a hundred times more disappointed I don't feel like they care as much as they could I don't feel like they own this as much as they should there should be some contr control in these games there should be some I'm going to dictate terms to the opponent we haven't seen any of that the only times LSU is in control LSU are leading things LSU look like they can really hurt an opponent is when we're throwing the ball we might see some record passing numbers from Garrett nesm this year because really that's that's the way we're going to win games we're not going to win games by asserting our dominance physically and running the football [ __ ] that we can't do that we're incapable of doing that the numbers bear that out in a really gross way we cannot run the football can't is Joan Johnson the answer I'm not sure we're going to get to writing our article we're going to be um going fullbore on this all night we're going to watch this game again and tonight 44-21 behind Garrett nesm six touchdown passes in 300 yards LSU still cannot run the ball only 64 yards on on uh 15 carries or sorry 25 carries it is pitiful rushing the football it is at times Blissful throwing the ball but defensively LSU were pushed around were bossed and really in the trenches on both sides of the ball had their ass kicked but LSU were able to pass the game away and get those yards get those touchdowns and zavon Thomas made some big plays in special teams that also made the difference and then there was some big nickolls penalties that also really hurt Nicholls and of course the play of the game in my opinion that turned everything for LSU to get control finally the PJ Woodland uh forced fumble and Recovery brilliant play by PJ Woodland that we showed earlier but really it is not good enough it is piss poor it is lacad Daigle um they don't look ready to play Brian Kelly doesn't look like he I gotta say this right now Brian Kelly looks like he's enjoying being a CEO more than he's being a enjoying being a coach he looks like he would rather be seen on Paul fine bomb repping the brand of LSU then he is of like taking care of the brand on the field by winning games because that's the reason the brand is so strong is because LSU has the second most championships in the 21st century to Alabama it's not just the great players it's the it's the big wins that we have it's all about winning LSU got back to winning ways tonight but it doesn't look good for the future of winning these close games that LSU are going to be in all year
