Jets DT Quinnen Williams talks about iron sharpening iron at camp | Pro Football Talk | NFL on NBC

joining us now one of the very best defensive players in all of football you know him from the New York Jets you may remember him from the hoodie that he's wearing Alabama little success there just a little bit of success a lot of success individually in the NFL he's quinnon Williams quinnon what's up buddy how are you doing good how you doing good good I can't believe you're starting year six I mean I know I'm old how do you feel after getting pounded around in the NFL for Five Seasons I feel good man you know I'm still young so I feel good do you ever get single teamed uh yeah I do get single team I do s single team something but a lot of times probably not what's what do you think the percentage is between double and single I probably get double team probably gotta be 70 plus if I'm just guessing probably 70 plus do you remember the ratio when you were at Alabama was it similar or or Worse Alabama probably was was was not that similar probably get double I mean I was getting single team probably a lot in Alabama double team yeah Alabama ran a 34 so it was like five down every time um does it frustrate you when it happens or you're just used to it by now uh I'm just used to it it don't frustrate me at all man you see the the greats like Aaron Donna and Fletcher Cox and Chris Jones all them get double teamed and stuff like that so uh you it's kind of come with being a good player I feel like so it's pretty cool Sims and I have been saying for years and this is really his idea that there should be a stat called f the playup because it doesn't matter if you don't get the tackle it doesn't matter if you don't get the sack what matters is you completely blow up the middle of the offensive line and allow your teammates to go get it done how would you like that if that was recognized with an official number you'd probably be near the top of the list if it make me get all pro that'll be cool so well All Pro in 2022 and a couple of pro bowls and it's been fun to watch you play so far I saw some talk this week about training camp being a little harder this year with the Jets what what did you sense through Camp I enjoyed it man going against a guy going against a great guy like Aaron Rogers and a great offensive line that they that we have has been unbelievable man so getting a chance to iron Shar iron and ballot it out every single day and get each other better has has been great for me and it just remind me back to those Alabama days I've been reading the Aaron Rogers biography and it seems like everybody ever played with him or against him says the ball sounds different when it goes by have you noticed that yes 100% especially when I'm on a defensive line the ball go right past my head you just hear this like little whistle like a like go right past your head so it's like man he's he's getting it out there fast so are you glad it doesn't hit you in the head is that how fast moving I'm 100% glad because I almost it almost did in a walkthr one day and I was like that was pretty close Aaron um what's the vibe this year it seems like last year from watching hard KNX so many guys were in awe right it was like God came down from heaven and decided he was going to play football with the New York Jets is it is it like that this year with Rogers or are you guys more used to him being there uh he's an unbelievable player I think it's like having somebody like a Hall of Fame on your team every single day is gonna be one of those uh at all moments but at the end of the day he's he's an unbelievable teammate unbelievable person and we have a we have a standard and we have a mindset right now that we want to win football games so um I'm pretty sure some guys are in allwe on the things he do every single day like everybody seeing the the the joint practices and the practices of the great throws that he makes so um but the end of day we want to win football games I think everybody just focus on on winning football games and doing the necessary things to do to to win football games so Quon what are you doing this year to challenge yourself to go to a higher level not that you need to but I'm sure you know we all try to be better each year what are you trying to do to get to a higher level uh be consistent man every single day I I step on the field be consistent and U just uh allow people around me to um be consistent and be a better leader vocally especially when um things are going right man just pushing people helping people out um if if I see something I think that would be better or like say if I watch film on chatler Jones stab rush or um Von Miller dip ghost a dip rip I just send it to the guys on the on the dline and say hey man look at this check this out we all can learn every single day on different things like that so uh really being consistent and being a better vocal leader so what teammate have you noticed this year has made a jump and seems to be ready to be much improved for 24 uh it's a bunch man just having a great a training cam a great offseason that we had here um but and I can only speak in the defensive line room for sure uh is Will McDonald's man will McDonald has been unbelievable especially the comfor in that he has in his pass rush game and to see him take a next Lev AC and tiring um different things about that asking Morgan Moses different things about his rush and just learning watching film on other guys and doing necessary things that he can do to get bigger stronger faster and better when it come down to being a football player so seeing the jump that he's had this off season has been unbelievable okay you're here with us today as part of the college color Day program and you've got your college College colors on I got my law school kers on although black really isn't a West Virginia K sometimes it is tell us about your involvement in the College colors day I did a hype video this offseason man that was amazing just celebrating the College colors and the different things that they uh do especially when you get come down to get your College colors gear and just the day itself it's the 20th anniversary uh on August 30th um so you can go to college color day.com to get college gear to celebrate your team man everybody know well I know for sure Alabama is the best college on the planet so I always rep my school and rep my team so well that's the way to do it hey before I let you go you guys have a screwy schedule with Prime Time games and short weeks you got three games between the 9th and the 19th how do you feel about that how's the team feel about that kind of a grind to get things started uh like like like you already said in the beginning man we've been grinding this whole training camp so it's nothing going to be nothing new to us man we've been working hard grinding this whole training camp and doing the necessary things we doing to get our bodies right for the season for the grind the whole season of The Grind especially when you talk to guys who go to the Super Bowl and win Super Bowl and stuff like that um it's all it's all a grind so having a mindset to win football games and do the necessary things we need to do to be consistent on the field and off the field is going to help us with that so well we wish you all the best you're one of our favorites to watch and you're one of our favorites
