Rob Burrow and Kevin Sinfield get their GOLD Blue Peter badges | CBBC

Best friends and rugby league legends, Kevin Sinfield and Rob Burrow have raised millions for charity over the last few years. Rob was diagnosed with motor neuron disease in 2019, two years after retiring from a 17 year rugby career. And since then the pair have been relentlessly working to raise awareness and funds to tackle the disease. We think their efforts have been nothing short of inspirational and because of that we're here to surprise them with Blue Peter's highest accolade, the Gold Badge. To help deliver the Gold Badge surprise, junior rugby league team, The Leeds Modernians, are the perfect helpers. But first, time to give these guys a surprise of their own. It's time. Follow me. Du, du, du, du, du... Come with me. Come with me. Come, faster. Come, come. Guys, guys, guys, guys, guys! Stop, stop, stop, stop, stop! You guys are not going to be doing a normal training session. What? No. No, you're doing a very special Blue Peter training session with two rugby league legends, Rob Burrow and Kevin Sinfield! They’re coming right now! [Screams of excitment] But there's only one question I have left... Do you want to meet them? YEAH! For these young rugby fans, this is a dream come true. I’m never washing this hand! [Laughs] I believe these guys have some questions for you. How long have you been playing rugby? I think Rob started when he was five, but I was seven. But we're really old now. How old are you? Eight. Eight. And how long have you been playing rugby for? Years. Three years. Three years, wow. So you are like Rob, you started when you were five. Me and Rob played 15 years together. I had to sit next to him every day in the changing rooms. We never stopped talking. What was it like playing, playing in front of the Headingley crowd? Ah, it was brilliant. We both really, really enjoyed it. We were lucky because we played in a fantastic team that won a lot more than we lost. And as you came down the steps, you could just see the south stand open up and all the fans would be cheering. So we both really like that. Well Kevin, I believe you guys are going to run these folks through some drills, right? Are you ready, guys? YEAH! Yeah! Let's get to it. Right guys, you're going to jump into a 2 v 1 drill and Harry is going to be our defenders. So we're going to try and use all this space to beat him in whatever way we can. Ready to go? Yeah! Let's go. Ah, well done, you two. Well done. Put some feet on. Put some feet on. Unlucky. Excellent. Well done. This looks so much fun. Even I'm getting involved. It's been years since I've done this. I was like this high when I last played. [All chanting Joel, Joel!] [Cheering] What do you think guys, out of ten? [All shouting different numbers] I’d say that’s a mixed review. What? What do you think? Erm... Considering Harry's only 13, I’d probably give you a five. Okay, my rugby skills definitely need a bit of work but we're not here to test me. I want to find out more about Rob and Kev’s fundraising journey. You run seven ultra-marathons in seven days, is that right? Yeah, that's right. Yeah. How did you ever do that? Well, it’s Rob’s fault. We try to raise a load of awareness on MND and some funds to try and find a cure and help families out there. I think when you're passionate about something, then you find the energy and enthusiasm to have a go at something like that. Well you guys, it's been a genuine pleasure to hang out and spend some time with you. And I must say, we here at Blue Peter, we see the work you do with MND to be genuinely inspirational, but also showing the true meaning of friendship. And as such, we have something kind of special for you. Bella! William! So here on Blue Peter, we have one thing that we hold above all else. That's the highest accolade we have in the show, and that is... Do you guys have these? The Gold Blue Peter badge. So these are for you, guys. Thank you very much. Wear them with pride. We will do. We both grew up watching Blue Peter, so to have one of these, was very nice. Yeah, I know how prestigious these are and so we're both really, really honoured. So thank you very much. Well no, genuinely, what you guys do is incredibly inspirational. It's well deserved. Wear them with pride. Thank you, will do.
