It is a Balmy Wednesday evening in our nation's capital. It's the Yankees against the Nationals in the rubber game of a three game set from Washington DC. It is a district Sizzler tonight at Nationals Park. 94 clear skies. Feels like a buck and a mckenzie Gore. He started against them. August 23rd of last year in New York lopsided, lost by the nets as he stuck around for four innings. What was the big theme for him falling behind so quickly and giving, you know, having to come right at guys 27 start here for Mackenzie Gore. You're looking at 131 and two thirds innings. How about the 23.5% strikeout rate got down a little bit, but we saw some more swing and miss last time out, torres gets things going and a two hopper it back up, jose Tana, he's got a gun over there and the ball skips off of Andres Chaparro and out of play and you would figure that's going to be a two base error on the Nats third baseman with a short throw next up is one. So you kind of feel like you're sitting on a powder keg with these middle of the order guys. Soto for that ground ball is now zero for nine in the series. It is a productive out as he moves the runner for Aaron Judge and here's judge who has a couple of hits and a walk in the series, he got him down and in Aaron Judge thought it was hittable, Then it dove on him and Mackenzie Gore comes back with great pitches on SOTO and Judge John Carlo Stanton is zero for two career against him. Ball is out over the plate and it is high over the top of this ballpark for Jacob Young. That's tremendous by Mackenzie Gore and a good job behind Mackenzie Gore pitching around the error to start the inning. The veteran left hander Carlos Rodon in the middle of warm up, toss his 27th start, 14 8 record the year just over four. If he wins this game tonight, it will be a career high with his 15th. Now Dylan Cruz leads off against Carlos Rodon. The Yankee starter and a ball launch in the air to left. See you later. His first in the major leagues for Dylan Cruz and his family. Well, they're on their feet. It's the nationals one and the Yankees nothing looks to me like grandma's fighting back some tears right there. Dylan Cruz a mighty blast. That's what she came from the Memphis area to see what a moment. What a here is James Wood and now Wood out to the gap in left center Verdugo has to cut that one off and a couple of NATS kids some great swings to start this game. Now, and Chaparro stands in his first major league home run last night against the team that originally signed him. Now time is called Rodon having a pitch count issue. Runner goes pitch low and in a great one on which to steal. That's number nine for James. So it's ball one to that ball gets away, almost hit the batter. And for the Nats, it's a good thing. It didn't, would have been a dead ball leaving wood at second and now he sits at third base and nobody out and a good at bat by and not getting too over eager with nobody out in that runner at third comes to hit. And what do we have here? We do. We have a ball and a run is going to score and now Rodon is really gonna let loose on the umpire. He is really upset. The run scores here comes aaron Boone and he tells Rodon, I'll argue for you. He separates Rodon from the home plate umpire. The run scores from third, the other runner goes to second and they call the balk on Rodon and Carlos is hot right now. So it's a balk that cost him a run two down, three ground ball outs already. Dan for mckenzie Gore Chisholm skies that in the air to center and deep Young racing back and that is gone. Jazz Chisholm Jr jolts one to center field that ball taking off as well. Chisholm does not waste any time. Gets a first pitch heater out over the plate and the ball is flying here tonight at Nationals Park his 22nd of the year and it's a 2 to 1 game. Jacob Young has been amazing here he is tonight. Set is a base hit. That's his 10th bunt hit of the year. Base Steelers have stolen 13 and 16 tries against Rodin with the steal in the first runner moving swing and a miss. And that is not close at second base number 31 for Jacob Young who has the fourth most steals in the national league. Munoz still hunting that first run batted in. Well, there's a possibility ball hits bpi's glove. Here comes the runner Verdugo throw is up the line and by the time that happens at home, Nunez is at second. So there's that first RB I 31 Nationals team speed on display. Got to love that. Here's Dylan Cruz standing in now. He's going to third no throw standing up. Wow, that is the third stolen base already tonight for Washington. Strike three good slider there from Rodon to get Cruz James Wood, a great stroke to left field for a base hit first time. 12. Oh, look at that. The other way by James Wood, his 31st RB I and making his living in the first two months in the big leagues. For the most part on the other side of the field, the body control for a guy at that size is just incredible and we talk about the aaron Judge stuff all the time. This kid is 21 young and Nunez are four for four at the bottom of the lineup. Tonight. I got two fast guys out there. Dylan Cruz, a fast guy at the plate and a ball well hit left center by Dylan Cruz. Young scores easily. Nunez to third. Get back over there and he's out. I Nunez got caught too far beyond third base. Nets get a run and lead by four. What a sweet swing. I mean, that is absolutely pure. He was waving him around and Then he stopped. So he had already taken the turn at third base. That's on the third base. Coach Dugo advances to third. Here's judge zero for one walked his last time. Yankees zero for six with runners in scoring position tonight. That is cute. Fair inside first down the right field line. Verdugo will score. It's about the softest contact you'll see from judge and a result in an RB I single. It's five judge having one of those years when he hits it hard. It ends up in the seats when he doesn't hit it hard. It's a base hit an RB I and an RB I for judge to make a 52 game and Mackenzie Gore's second wild pitch of the night and right now it's all about pitcher versus batter with his two hits. Tonight. Jazz is three for six career against Mackenzie Gore and he's going to get him on a big breaking ball strikeout number six. Nasty with that curveball trying to finish off six innings as Patrick Corbin did last night standing in the way DJ Lema to right Cruz feeling very comfortable in that part of the ballpark. So a scoreless sixth inning for Mackenzie Gore and through six innings, he's held the Yankees to two runs on six. Well, the Nets in position to add on here two on nobody out with the lefty Tana coming up, Tana will rock one to center judge going back. He's in trouble. It's over. His head hits the ground hits the wall. Gallo coming around. He's got to keep coming now and we've got a jam on the bases and it's going to end up 2nd and 3rd here. Now, where's juan Leez going? There is a play at first? Oh my goodness. They had 2nd and 3rd with Gallo about to be tagged out and all yet Pena had to do was stay at their bases and Davey is in a little bit of shock down there at worst. The Nats had 2nd and 3rd with one out. I mean, I mean, that was one more bad decision away from being a triple play on a ball that hit the center field wall. And here's kyle Finnigan who last night got a four out save. There were some moments in the night. They gave up three hits but he got torres on a fly ball to end the ball game. 5 to 2. Now, two in scoring position for New York, we're down to our last out here with Gleyber Torres and the Nats do not want this to go any farther because an overdue SOTO is on deck. What a dramatic sequence here at the tail end of a three game series. The Miss Finnegan once again leaves Juan Soto in the on deck circle to celebrate a nationals victory 5 to 2. The final. What a series by the boys. What a win tonight.
