Smith Hey Taylor what's going on man how are you how you doing excited to be here steephen obviously a big fan big fan Stephen and I'm excited for you just to absolutely roast me if there's anything I hate it's having an opinion a strong opinion especially after one game in week one of the NFL season but we're going to give it the best go we got have time let's go let's have a Time we can do that we can do that I just feel the need I feel compelled to say this to you on national television first of all welcome to the show and I led being on your podcast as well thank you for having me a few months ago during Super Bowl crushing it with the podcast but when but when did you and Joe foron ball hook up I mean I mean clearly the mustache that he rocks I mean he got it from you or was it vice versa you know what if I knew who that was here what I'll say we got to bring the 70s back in a big way I that weird influence in the southwest region growing up in Arizona the cowboy The Vibes the star skis and hugs those types of things the Dukes of Hazard I enjoy that type of look so that is what I'm going with today you sir in fact you have a fitted suit on I heard this is a new thing for you so I'm very excited for you to have a suit that fits on real nice I love the brown you look fantastic I'm excited whoa whoa there's no shots being Tak for he tried to slide in the shot there okay it was a subtle I'm just trying to find away in the wat we're having a good time we're having fun you seem really nervous about it all right Thoughts on Jackson's comments uh Taylor what do you make Lamar's comments I love the delusion it Tru not my cryptonite that was a touchdown like that to be successful in the NFL you have to be talented you have to be smart and you have to have this undeniable ability to have a complete chip on your shoulder and other all circumstances be able to live in a truly delusional world and I say that as a compliment we all think every time I would watch film hey you're going against Chandler Jones this we garbage we're going against JJ Watt this week garbage TJ watt garbage Aaron Donald garbage and it's like you just got to tell yourself these things and hopefully you just speak them into existence and that's what our man Lamar Jackson is doing he's going to be just fine I believe I think that Lamar's comments about saying that they aren't his Kryptonite is Lamar finally becoming Fed Up and sort of getting defensive I think when you look at what he was saying last year going into that game he was talking like a quarterback who believed he could win who believ that he was going to now dispel all the narratives that said he couldn't beat the Kansas City Chiefs and when you have your best team when you have one of your best years when you feel like you are better than the team that you're playing on your field and you don't win that's when the doubt starts to creep in and also I bet the messaging in the Baltimore Ravens locker room in their building is different during that week it's a lot of positivity we can do it guys we know we are as good as this team and you're like well hold on you don't do that when we playing the Carolina Panthers you you you don't do that when we playing the Cleveland Browns why now all of a sudden this week you're giving me these pep talks and I think you hear from the media too people are starting to believe that Lamar Jackson though a great player cannot find a way for his team to beat the Kansas City Chiefs and it's not that it's a belief or it's a perception it's a truth and until Lamar Jackson does it he's going to be faced with those question hey guys let me say this to you let me throw this out to all of y'all okay put everybody up on the screen so I can see them please I you know it's interesting that y'all bring this up and Lamar Jackson said what he said because you know what it had me thinking about especially with what you just said RC remember pton Manning remember when pton Manning kept going up against Bill belich and Tom Brady in New England and couldn't get over the hump until they finally won the AFC Championship game and Tom Brady had thrown the interception for the Indianapolis coach to seal a deal and get to the Super Bowl and ultimately capture Payton Manning's first Super Bowl championship pton Manning I don't know of anybody who was considered to be greater with a Super Bowl championship having escaped him than pton Manning at that particular moment in time that is where Lamar Jackson is he's a reigning he's he's a two-time league MVP okay he's a two-time league MVP we know he's an absolute stud we've never seen anybody at the quarterback position being able to run the football and create opportunities and extend plays for themselves the way that he can and here you are it would be bad it would be really really bad and it would be something he could overcome if we were just talking about him not winning playoff G like when he had his first playoff game against the charges and he snuck up the joint and then he had to finally get over the hump and he was going up against Tennessee if I remember correctly right but in this instance now I think it's worse and you can speak to that better than me this one guy that's standing in your way it's one thing for somebody to say you got to get over the hump it's another thing for people to say you can't beat him that to me is what's starting to great at Lamar Jackson and with a one and five record against Patrick Mahomes I can't blame him yeah I think you guys are nailing it I think it's a man that knows by the way at least has one win against Patrick Mahomes in his first six contest pton Manning was 0 for six to start right against Tom Brady so at the very least if we're bright sighting it he has that but you're talking about a man who came into that game yesterday with the best witing percentage tied with only Patrick Mahomes except for in the postseason where of course it counts the most where Patrick Mahomes is I think 15 and three and he's two and four right including Super Bowls that's his closest contemporary and he is frustrated and a little bit defensive because he knows that a usually in the beginning of the season is when the Chiefs are the most getable but also because they had him it was I hate to be Denny green here but they had him and I understand they didn't come close to playing a perfect game in they were Abal can speak this new MERS of theive line that's not a br new defensive coordinator so many sloppy penalties so many untimely penalties a missed field goal from Justin Tucker who's just about typically as good as it comes from that distance and they still came within a toe of tying that game up and potentially winning that game and I think that's Will the Ravens and Chiefs meet again? where the frustrations at you won't say it and it won't come out it won't come out of your mouth it would be like nah how ate my cryptonite I just went crazy yeah right like like like that's your thought process is like no they ain't shut me down I put up 400 I threw the football to isaah likely and only a toll was out and we were that close to winning and so I do believe it's that feeling but it's still another L right in the Lost column it's still Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs finding a way to best you and maybe we get to that point since since Stephen A brings up Tom Brady and PT Manning maybe we get to the point where we can say yeah Lamar didn't win a lot of them but he won enough right because when we get to the end of P Manny's career we like man he had a great career he was a MVP five times and he also won two Super Bowls but Tom Brady's the go maybe that's the conversation Lamar Jackson has to be willing to have at the end of his career that I didn't win them all I didn't even win the majority but I got one but when does that one come in the most important moment and the biggest thing that's going to happen with it coming is the the here here's the problem is this is week one of the NFL season we still got 16 more games for both these teams to play the issue is is these teams know they're going to see each other again and the Ravens know that they're going to have to go to Kansas City again and one of the hardest places in the NFL to play with that crowd noise you saw it affecting the Ravens all day yesterday now will Lamar be able to get over that hump then I think that really depends if John Harbaugh and that coaching staff can figure out what to do with derck Henry what kind of offense are we going to see cuz they were caught so many times yesterday and being under Center giving Derrick Henry what Derrick Henry did with the Tennessee Titans for so long and then offset gun and so there's going to be a lot of different situations that they're dealing with an identity crisis on offense that they need to figure out before they get to this inevitable game again in January I tell you this guys and and and and from a media perspective I remember when I was covering the NBA for years as a beat Rider and one of the things that I thought gave me a decisive Advantage as a reporter is that we were sitting Courtside and so when dudes would come out after warming up they get intro and all of this other and they'd walked to the scorers table before entering the game you had an opportunity to look at them look at them in the eye see how focused they were see what see see what kind of attitude that they had and you also sorted the tail in the games when games was over and who was at fault you know what what their mentality was whether they looked defeated whether they were hungry angry etc etc I watched Lamar Jackson walking off that field last night you know what I saw I saw him pointing to the fans in Kansas City and then he went like this like I'll be back I'll be back and that that was the best thing that I saw from Lamar Jackson all night long despite the 122 yards rushing despite the near 400 yards accumulated I I looked at that and I said yo okay I see you this is what he's talking about I'll be back to get y'all he believes he can take them we gonna find out we gonna find out yeah I think that but Stephen he you talking about basketball what we saw from Lamar last night was the other four Dudes on the court didn't play great I went for I took the last shot and it rimmed out so I'll see you talking about that one shot yeah like that's he saying to himself that's not my anal that's not my analogy my analogy Ryan to use the basketball analogy you just brought up it's a difference between missing the last shot and going to the free throw line and missing the free throw he missed the free throw to use a basketball use basketball par cuz they fly was
