WVU Doesn't belong in the Big 12? Kirk Herbstreit breakdown and reaction!

right what is he talking about what's he talking about man is is West VIR the Big 12 weird is this A New Concept should West Virginia be somewhere else should they go somewhere else is the big Club holding West Virginia back from a travel perspective another perspective there's a lot to get into with it and I thought it'd be a fun stream for tonight until we can do some other stuff so welcome in which is just gives me content for days the season for both those fan bases and you're right it's it's it's a different time you're the Big 12 it's just weird you know you think of the future we just talked about where this thing's going to land in a couple years who knows you know I'm not saying that West Virginia is gonna you know get out of the conference that they're currently in but how great would it be if we could get back to them playing against teams that their fans get excited to be playing against I can't wait is he right is he right what's up Papa what's up Jared what's up Savage Hill Billy hey UC FS hey welcome in man hope you're subscribed to the channel man I appreciate other uh fan bases in here love the UFC UCF fan base the fastest growing if not the fastest growing in the country so a lot of respect for you guys and what you have going on there this year you guys might actually you guys got a shot to push us for the best rushing team in the conference this year so I'm super stoked about that but uh as people pour in I'll probably replay this clip but Kirk herb Street brings up an interesting question the build around this game is unlike any build I've ever been a part of ever you know uh obviously doing this for a living gives me a closer view than the average casual that's probably looking at this from a 30,000 foot view uh people like yourselves who are more than casual but probably not as invested as I am as far as the research and everything I put into it this is a won hell of a build on both sides Penn State has leaned into it which is great even though their fans don't really want to acknowledge us which is fine acknowledge me uh West Brazilian fans are all about it all right we obviously show up and show out when it comes to the National stage when it comes to putting on a show oh you want to come see morgant toown okay well we're going to have Pat mcky on Friday big noon on Saturday College college g day what you know like I'll take those two things over college game day but um so herb Street's talking about it's just weird he grew up obviously watching West Virginia PN State way back when and most anybody can tell you the last time wbb beat Penn State because it was a rare occurrence uh and but it still meant something right uh herb remember watching hutler and those guys play against pen state as a child that's a core memory of his and so from his point of spe point of view and he's you know he's kind of a national guy but well not kind of he is um he said it's weird you know uh and and he said something I don't know if we all agree with so what are your thoughts on this statement about K KP Street let's hear it one more time uh oh I lost track of my thingy all right here we go uh might be I have to do this one more time all right you guys morgant Town holy cow going to Morgantown I I'm so excited that they're gonna be playing that game this weekend what a way to start the season for both those fan bases and you're right it's it's it's a different time you know the Big 12 it's just weird you know it's just weird you think of the future we just talked about where this thing's going to land in a couple years who knows you know I'm not saying that West Virginia is gonna you know get out of the conference that they're currently in but how great would it be if we could get back to them playing against teams that their fans get excited to be playing against I can't wait for so how do y'all feel about that because I get excited when we play Oklahoma State Utah you know this if we play them in the conference Championship game or you know obviously that's way far off I don't even know why they came to my head UCF is in the chat uh you know I do get excited about those teams but it's not the same level you know and and and they call us they tell us we should be thankful and grateful that we're even in the Big 12 and I get that I I am 100% grateful for the lifeline that the Big 12 through West Virginia but yeah but you know when herb Street and people like this bring up well this is this build here this build that we're leading into the Penn State build speaks for itself raise your hand in the class have you ever been ever a part of a build as big as this one since West Virginia's been in the Big 12 uh I mean you'd be hard pressed to find one that Rivals it it's it's it's bigger than the Backyard Brawl uh last year maybe not the 21 would that was pretty big too but I mean that's a rare you know it's in the category of the Backyard Brawl as far as the buildup to this game you know so is that going to happen any other time for us I you know it's regional it's it means something there's this we're definitely in our role as the underdog in this game and so I just ask you the West Virginia fans or other fans looking in maybe from a different point of view is Kirk Street right is should West Virginia be in the SEC closer to some more Regional rivalries you know maybe we you know maybe it would be easier us to forge a rivalry because who who are we Rivals with exactly in the Big 12 can somebody answer that question for me who's our rival Cincinnati now is it UCF now like Cincinnati would be the closest thing really you know like I can still remember Tony Pike and those boys beating us as the buzzer basically went off you know at Cincinnati probably would have been oh probably been 2 I don't know when that would be seven six I don't know but you know I I just think it's it's frustrating right Mo Carpenter man thank you for all the support brother uh I can't say that last part out loud but it's it's there on the screen for everybody to read let's effing go Mountaineers spit sucks and pin State I need to take a drink of Mountain Dew really quick so the algorithm I was just told this by a guy from lockon who's like into this the algorithm actually knows when you cuss and I have my channel labeled as uh not for kids but uh at the same time it also asks me like are you going to be a mcae type show where you cuss you know when you've got National sponsors that doesn't really matter the monetization of a video doesn't really matter for me it does so I have to be careful with certain cursed words like damn is okay but like some of the more derogatory ones whatever that means they're all just words smack the devil with good insight as always thank you for joining I think 10 12 years ago you could say WB didn't fit especially Geographic Al now though I feel like we fit culturally football and social culture geographically it still does not fit right and that's the biggest piece though you know we still have to sell for every Rodney Gallagher that grew up a West Virginia fan uh in Pennsylvania there's GNA be 15 drew allers that grew up in Ohio which is also close to West Virginia uh and and is going to stick close to Penn State right because he plays every every everywhere he knows in his from pretty much except not anymore everything's all messed up with UCLA and USC and Oregon and Washington but you get my point and it's a tough sale sometimes on the recruiting Trail for West Virginia to say hey love to take you on this Conquest across the country from one Coast to another now everybody's kind of dealing with it but the past 10 12 years it's just been us nobody else you know and I don't feel like we get enough credit for that like and also I feel like it is a huge thing to to blame for the flying WV I would say how Utah is viewed now is probably about where we hit maybe a little bit further because we've won just a bit more than Utah has at in the early when we had our run in the early 2000 middle 2000s you know it's in that realm uh you know just let Clemson win a notch further than we did uh you know so it would be like Utah having to relocate to the ACC never play BYU for 10 years uh or you know it would be like Baylor Texas Tech TCU never playing one another or Oklahoma and it'd be like Oklahoma and Texas being split apart and now you've got to go play in the pack well that's not a good example maybe the ACC for them as well or the Big East or whatever uh and and so you lose all these Regional rivalries that everybody's excited about and you have to recruit a new type of player that doesn't really care about playing in front of their family you know and while we are grateful for the Big 12 I just think herb Street brings up a good point could the can West Virginia use this game to grab the proverbial bull by the horns in the conference and clutch on to that conference flag and make this West Virginia's conference because this game by far the biggest impact right on the conference for West Virginia this this had we have a chance to rekindle some of our former glory we could still lose the you know we could still we could win this game and still perform poorly in the Big 12 I actually do believe that because it's just such a you just everybody knows each other so well and the games are just close in the Big 12 just the way it is even even when teams are much more talented you know Oklahoma and Texas are great examples but I I'm curious what you guys think Big 12 I wish I was actually able to attend Road games living in Tennessee I'm hours away from the IND team yeah and look I'm not trying to say I I feel your pain you know uh but you guys were coming up from group of five level I don't feel like it's exactly the same UF ucfs not that what you're going through it doesn't matter it does absolutely it matters but I'm just saying we've been going through it for like 10 years now you know and it's fair question like think about where okay what you guys did the year you guys claim is a national championship year for yourselves we had like three of those maybe four you know and three for sure and uh that were similar to that and that's all gone now and in large part I think due to the Big 12 but at the same time it kept us relevant you know it's just a weird it's a weird dichotomy because I feel like the big 12 saved us you know we would be a group ofi probably would have been group of five maybe we got picked up by somebody but at the same time like I said it's really taken away from the big TW the Big 12 or the West Virginia brand and also at the same time educated a lot of people on it there's a lot of just Nuance to this and I wanted to get to you know just kind of want to see what everybody thought about this premise blah blah blah last year what the f ever can't wait to see the CRI gets out of these people come Saturday let's F and go Mountain here's Mo fired up for this Andre are arigas the six out of n times we be pit Ste state was at home that's a good that's a good point it's a good point listen at the end of the day this the I don't think history matters too much in this game because I mean it does from the standpoint that there's a lot of the same players on the field but like with the series The Series history this just these aren't the same programs anymore Penn State's nowhere near is dominant nowhere near is dominant as they were for the majority of those wins and West Virginia's no we near as talentless as they were for some of those losses West Virginia is much closer to I I would say the upper three fource or to maybe the middle of of of f five teams you know talent wise as to where pit State's on the upper ason no doubt but this year's West Virginia team is a what I would consider to be an old school it's a developed team right there's a lot of three star guys on this team but they if they were hit to hit the transfer portal Garrett green would would be a four or maybe even five star transfer Wy M most definitely a five-star transfer and you start looking around the roster toas remac would easily be a four-star transfer he's going to be a draft pick so pretty obvious both running backs would be four-star transfers you know like so like there's a lot of four-star Talent on the team that may not have been in high school three you know fourstar players they've been developed over the course of three and four years so I think that's what even the playing field that a lot of people are talking about I've seen so many Penn State fans this week say look at the stars Penn State has 40 to 54 and five-star players on this team and they do but we have some too that are developed into that and it just never gets the talking point that it needs in my opinion West Virginia's flat out better at a few position groups on this in this game you know but pen State better overall Talent no doubt you know and in some spots like offensive line is a great starter if you want to be West Virginia obviously the best lineman in this game is Wy mil left on the left side of West Virginia's offensive line Tomas remac being the CL the second best lineman of the game Wormley from Penn State I think is in that conversation as well but um you know they don't even have a right tackle or at least as of yesterday that battle wasn't solved yet so West vir has pretty much have solidified in the offensive line obviously Brandon Yates has been been a starter at West Virginia since his freshman year and he's starting at Center this year jqu hubard is three years removed from his transfer from Virginia he just mentioned on his thing yesterday he was the number one alignment in the state of Pennsylvania and Pen State didn't offer him you know which he went to Virginia so you know he must not have been setting on complete fire at the time but but I I mean you know I I think it's a fair point for jqu to say look I I have a chip in my shoulder and uh he's definitely got a lot to prove this year but West Virginia Center left guard left tackle are all really good in my opinion uh the the the Right Guard right tackle I feel like have something to prove Jay has proven a lot he started a lot of games but I think he needs to take it up a notch this year then Nick Malone on the right side while he played really well last we just got to see okay Mo's fired up he's all over here David Lee did y'all see Greer got cut yesterday maybe R can get will to help out WB program maybe so David that's a good point I like it Max Spicer thanks for the for the uh comment man not say I don't recognize the name but stick around brother W is gonna P smack pin state in the face wow okay interesting interesting Mo said it'll be up end up being four super conferences each conference will send two and two teams and four at large bids maybe so well that's secondary to the oh that's secondary to my premise though Patrick I agree you do have to have an invite first you're right absolutely but I think what I'm trying to get at here is okay K Street's hearkening back if you will to we've got 200 people in here now we might as well just play it one more time just so for context because I feel like it's kind of important here Friday for you guys guys in Morgantown holy West Virginia Penn State was again Jeff hotler I remember watching those games and they played Penn State early in the year and it was always a big rivalry I I'm so excited that they're going to be playing that game this weekend what a way to start the season for both those fan bases and you're right it's it's it's a different time you're the Big 12 it's just weird you know you think of the future we just talked about where this thing's going to land in a couple years who knows you know I'm not saying that West Virginia is gonna you know get out of the conference that they're currently in but how to say in that I'm not trying to come out come out against Kirk K Street here but I think we're all grateful to be the big 12 like I said but um you know do we long to play against some of these teams I I think the build for this game speaks for itself the buildup to Penn State Barone the best I've ever seen you know along I mean in the Big 12 so and that includes the 11 Bama buildup I would say the Chick-fil-A kickoff was was as good as this because we social media just Amplified it had if we had had uh you buildup to the 12 I think it was 12 maybe it was 13 for versus Alabama and 11 versus LSU or 10 versus 10 and 11 versus LSU those buildups probably would have been as large or larger but the the mix the right mixture is here because Wu fans see this as a rivalry I think pen most Penn State fans do too but there are some that will say it's not because you know West Virginia hasn't won a lot of games here but regionally it matters we recruit a lot of the same players and and there's a true dislike I think I think based on how last year ended uh Penn State fans are saying that West Virginia fans and players are crying about the way the game ended that we shouldn't be crying about their second team trying to get better and I understand that West Virginia fans are saying you could have took a knee you didn't have to score at the end and so that's kind of Amplified it and then McAfee talking has definitely Amplified it Eddie Eddie Vin had Amplified it Garnet Hollis and his fiery words Amplified it and so I think it's a combination of all these things all these swirling topics uh are kind of just morphing into a melstrom of insanity that's going to really culminate probably Friday you know when if he's there and then explode Saturday at noon lucky for pin State this isn't a night game I really do think it would add a little extra oomph because the lights and everything that West Virginia has brought out for this year would be a huge impact I think you know just for the overall uh feel of the game and everything but you know noon's noon you know it is what it is you know we're not going to get the 100% best uh environment out of noon but we're going to get really close to it because of how much buildup there's been but point for the Big 12 being weird like hery said and us going somewhere else is definitely I thinka case in point this buildup I'm talking about this buildup would never happen with another big 12 team unless it it was it would have to be two top 10 teams somewhere that you know something something like that you know and it just doesn't happen a lot this conference right now between West Virginia and another team a lot of that's our fault you know because we haven't been as good as we would like but I just think you know it's a fair conversation to have is all I'm saying is all I'm asking here I'm not saying I agree I'm not saying that I disagree I'm asking is K curb street right about what he said do West because he basically said West Virginia fans get excited about you know we want to see them play some teams that their fan base gets excited about like this well I don't think that's 100% right and I took a little bit of uh you know I took a little bit of offense to it because I think the Big 12 has been great to us but I also miss all of our Rivals so it's like you can live in both worlds kind of so I West Virginia goes and pit it has been one-sided West Virginia's favor for probably 20 years but pit has the overall lead in the series and it's most definitely a rivalry it's not even the conversation like I I think there's a lot of must fans that would fight over that um it sucks because I here's my feeling on this everything pit state is is a fan base I wish pit was and and and and I don't mean that in a mean way towards pit fans I I do have a special place in my hardcore in a a lot of ways because they're kind of our counterparts right and like what Ohio state gets out of Michigan or Michigan gets out of Ohio State fans we don't necessarily get out of pit fans they just don't care as much uh you know that's the narrative anyway um you know they they get up for us and pin State and other a couple other games but like we sell out no matter what you know and I just think although pet fans are mad that that narrative created for them uh it's true in a lot of ways you know they they're at least that's the narrative around their fan base now I could be wrong about it to be honest I could be but I don't think I am you know like there's a lot of empty stadiums uh for pit games uh it is what it is with that but a lot of it has to do with where they're located unfortunately couldn't imagine the Steelers Shadow looming over you it' be really hard to deal with we don't have that but everything we're getting from pit state in turn we do get from pit but I think it's been amped up a level I've never been involved with a pit buildup like this so I don't know man yeah don't love it especially with everything that's coming out uh oh but there's like a grassy field that is certainly no like uh in between two buildings where our stage it they're telling uh students that they can't get there until 9:00 a.m. on Friday no overnight camping and the fact that that was even a thought that they had to put that on there is wild to me I'm excited to see if anybody comes if they do can't wait to have a blast we got some surprise guests you know coming through I think he generally does I you know one thing about mby that freaks me out sometimes is I think he doesn't realize how big of a deal he is and you know you could say it's it's a little bit of uh what do they call that whenever somebody's being false about being humble false humility I guess uh I don't think that's what it is here I think you know he they announced it late and I think he legitimately is kind of worried that nobody's gonna show up he's so wrong on this like they're gonna be it's gonna be it's gonna be insane you know I really do think it's gonna be a game day scenario like a college game day type maybe even more like I think it's G to be super impressed I I really do we got some West Virginia Legends and and uh it's the biggest home opener since 1998 in Morgantown and The Whole Town's bed give give me your top five WVU football legends your personal we'll do that on Friday I do believe uh so I'm curious yeah I know you are that's great watch out Friday he's such a dick to him we will we have we have a I have a we have a piece being made right now for the open like I'm I'm gonna really try to uh let this just warm your heart up man like Pat's trying man does it just fire you up that he's trying so hard to it's like a long lost brother has returned because for years it's been like we've all wanted this to happen and now it is like it really does mean a lot uh let the world know that like there's a lot of history in this town there is and this town is uh I I don't want to say the Big 12 isn't home but it is like the big 12 we are so far removed from and that's probably Neil Brown calling right now saying make sure you mention my goatee which he looks super cool but like WVU ending up in the Big 12 instead of like the big 10 or the ACC I think for some people especially in the area maybe forget about West Virginia a little bit because they're not playing against their team it's like Morgantown is a phenomenal College Town West Virginia has a lot of history and there's been a lot of superstars that have come through there now with that being said I don't like that James Franklin's already saying like yeah don't like uh my guys providing any bullettin board material for anybody else so we'll say it's like if I'm helping feed this Penn State team that doesn't need any more assistance after everything has happened to them so I think that's a little shot at Franklin um you know because Franklin said yesterday he prefaced it because obviously he he he walks the line on this stuff he didn't want to offend Maxie because he's got a lot of power in the media excuse me and he can control a lot of narratives right what's up Pokemon and uh I think you know how I put this so Franklin said yesterday first of all the Pat McAfee and then he said we want to make sure we're not talking out both sides of our mouth right or neck or however you said it uh implying that West Virginia did because gett Hollis said some stuff in his press conference and so did edv and so has Neil Brown a little bit on how the game ended last year denied that they even played the videos which Ed did say they played the hundreds of times they were watching the video of Penn State scoring right Neil Brown played that down so West vir lost that battle if you want to talk about bulleon board material I don't know how much it's GNA matter on the field but I feel like ma is kind of responding here uh saying like listen if I'm feeding it then there's something wrong you shouldn't need me to feed it right and I feel like it's a fair assessment so if you if you need Pat McKie and what he says to feed your your uh you know whatever you want to call it then there's an issue there to get them motivated go to Morgantown that is obviously some because they're a great team coming in ranked number eight and with his 12 team playoff I think they have more hopes and dreams than they have in the past because they knew you lose to Ohio State you lose to Michigan it's over like we got no shot it's going to be them because the way it was East West now 12 team no division it's like Penn State has more hope than ever West Virginia does too it's like this is a celebration of what's kicking off here in West Virginia that's so a celebration you know and Pat's gonna be I I think it's gonna be special I really do I think he's gonna be he's really gonna try hard to they're putting a piece together so I'm assuming it's going to be like a lot of you know a lot of former players vide him probably in Morgan toown and just just really cool stuff but there's so much healing that's happened I'm telling you guys this is our biggest weapon that nobody probably talks about except me obviously I I react to makab stuff a lot because I personally feel like he's the single biggest proponent of West Virginia football outside the program you know he he really is he has the chance to impact Us in so many ways on the nil in the nil space he's got the cool Factor right he's everywhere he's in WWE he's on college game day uh he has a lot of people that hate him too so he's polarizing but that's good because he stays in the news and then obviously the nil part of this too is a big deal and I think you got to consider all that you know so he he's the single biggest weapon for us moving forward and I think this has been so big for our program to have him back and I think he realizes like you know it's not in stone as to what's going to happen you know you a year you never know any year you could be Washington State in Oregon State and nobody wants to be Washington State in Oregon State I feel horrible for those programs because they have fan bases very similar to West Virginia very similar I don't know if they're they're probably not quite as rabid because we're you know full State uh and those teams they all have other power five teams in the state stuff like that but um you know Pat being our biggest Advocate is it's huge because it you're in the news like I said players are F like you know how many upand cominging teenagers that are G to be really good football players watch this show uh get a lot of their cues uh what is cool comes from this show like Pat still relevant and the young crowd and I feel like you know he's gonna help bring some kids to Morgan down I really do I'll do that Pokemon I sure will oh hey look guys it's a53 I got a roll uh hope you guys enjoyed the video I don't want to leave there's almost 300
