Rob Burrow's Funeral and all tearful tributes. try not to cry

[Music] n we're here at beverston Lions where Rob borrow the number seven the legend that he is started his career in rugby league people have been paying their tributes they've been signing a book of condolences and now Crowds Are lining the streets all uh a lot of feelings mate really coming through and uh like all the emotion and sadness and stuff like that and feels like nerves as well you know that's that's what it feels like um and it's just crazy to see everyone lining the streets and the roads as he driving in you know all the way from Escape on the Ring Road and coming here and me bumping into teammates and stuff that I've not seen for a long time and um all to celebrate Rob and it's real Tim to be honest and I don't know how I'm going to feel when I get in there well this this is the final journey and it's a remarkable outpouring of support and love for what's been a remarkable man I you're a terrific young player but are you ever going to be big enough I didn't think he would be 5 fo four and a half but he certainly proved it me and everybody else wrong he became be he he was is a giant in stature and ability and effort and determination and become a terrific rugby league player for Leeds rhinos for England for Great Britain uh and after that of course he went on to coach the leads round his Academy team pass on his knowledge and expertise and then of course his battle with M andd him and his family have been remarkable in that battle raising awareness and funds as well and he leaves a remarkable Legacy both M andd and feed for for rugby league and for sport sad day to be honest to say goodbye to a legend really I know him as a kid I mean everyone think he won't make it but turned out one of the best players in the world yeah he always had time for you no matter what I can remember one time I guess I were at leads we are leads fans first to come over and talk to me leave leads players alone and had half hour with me just really sad day you also coach here I do yeah and how important are is today really in memory of such a legend I think it's not just important for the club but obviously for these young you know these young girls that are getting inspired um you know not just for girls but for boys as well it's a great inspiration you know these young girls and Lads that are coming on board and I just think how much of a you know how much of a career and inspiration showed for these upcoming people that can make a future years Rob B who was an extraordinary rugby league player but who went on to capture the heart of the nation with his incredible approach to living with M andd inspirational is often an overused word but Rob was certainly that his bravery his fight to uh increase awareness of M andd and his refusal to give in to the terrible disease was just staggering little warrior both on and off the pitch um I was so lucky to have spent some time with him last year and leads and rugby league and the sporting World At Large will remember him forever yeah it's an incredibly difficult time at the minute to uh reflect um but that's what we've been doing for last few hours certainly last night was a difficult evening uh but this morning the love the sentiment that's been pouring in as a reflection of Rob's life and the Legacy that is Left Behind it's just amazing you use the word they transcending gave out a message they know to do it for a mate with a mate we' run the marathon here a few weeks ago and you see the the the outpouring of Love there and benevolence I think for me it's the Courage the word courage that stood out Rob his courage to play the game with his size and his stature something that people at the start thought was a weakness he used it as a strength he was world class he Shan he was a superhero inspired so many young people to play the game had some wonderful moments and then that courage shown even brighter post career in that Journey that I had from the 15th of December 2019 right through the 2nd of junee 2024 and that courage will continue the sentiment in the center of what blue and Amber jerseys and Lead Rhino leads rubber League sport the nation uh banging that jump Chanel light on M andd community and for the people that need it the most can see well obviously the center is is named after Rob but it wasn't about Rob he wanted a center for people with M&D um that would provide them with hope a place for space a place to to think and and Rob's Legacy far transcends out obviously he's been working with the m andd Association for to find a cure for research with through research so he's he's elevated m andd in people's Consciousness not only in this country but far wider than that he was a club Legend he he he he just fought know carried on fighting till the end didn't he it was um came down as a family and it's It's just tough but um Rob was he was it's just what rugby was all about oh just inspirational what a great rugby player love watching him love seeing him play and then obviously last couple years the courage is for the horrible disease M andd against and the money's raised truly amazing character I wish you could have seen the outpouring of love I think we all lose special people you lose someone who's so special to so many different people and as you can see it's pretty raw still he's um he leave a massive Hall a lot of people from the M andd Community will be out broken this morning um but he cared about everybody what's really really important is that robber all continues to live forever and our team I'm sure the M andd community and everyone who supported us previously will make sure that Rob's name is at the Forefront of everything we do going forward but he's to see what he's done the last four and a half years you know I saw and we amazed at some of the things he did in the Rugby field but has been unbelievable and the respects and love and um admiration I've got for him uh couldn't be any higher the inspiration he's given everybody across the UK who's who's been across this story um it will live in the Memories Forever best wishes and um the thoughts and you know it's a really sad time for everybody involved um the burough family especially with um how courageous they've all been and then to come here today and see some of the fruits of Rob's work um he was so proud of this and um I've heard they're going to try and build it in record time now because that's what Rob did he he broke records and and um he wanted people to have a better outlook on life he wanted people to have hope he wanted to find a cure for this disease and building this Center and the work he's been able to do over the last four and a half years will ensure that those who come after him if you don't remember Rob bur as a rub player going take a look because you'll be amazed at the guy like he was the super human Superman in a game of big strong athletes and um you know I'm I'm sure there'll be a big for a Rob in this building and I'm sure there'll be some little kids who walk through with parents and grandparents and relatives who who ask who's that and uh I'm also very very sure the answer that we'll get is he was a legend behind this building and some Legacy for him to leave um yeah we you see we're pretty heartbroken this morning but um he's a special guy he'll be looking down on us now and he'll be so proud of today be so proud of his his family and to Jeff and iron and Joan and CLA for turning out and and being here he'll be um yeah he'll be smiling like he always did a very emotional night um especially because Le's against Lee was the first own game I brought Rob to and uh he loved every minute and he always used to look for Philly their results as well so I'm glad they're doing so well in Super League it caused them a little bit of difficulty that leads League game you were here as a fan and he couldn't distinguish between Leeds and Lee yeah yeah he had a fabulous sense of humor and uh he he he used to always go on about different teams and um but I wish you could see the this crowd but it was it was a lovely lovely lad and I miss him so much Brian Kath mu has been living with M andd for the past 10 years Kath can you tell us what kind of impact what kind of influence Rob burrow had on you I was diagnosed with m andd just over 10 years ago when very few people had heard of the disease it was the summer of the Ice Bucket Challenge where lots of people got buckets of ice cold water and tipped it over themselves and posted the video of it on social media and donated to MD but many of these people didn't know what the charity was about then unfortunately Rob was diagnosed and bravely told the world about his diagnosis him and his lovely family showed the world what a horrendous cruel disease MD really is how it takes away every part of you bit by bit sarok had a huge effect on me and my family he became a huge inspiration to myself and the whole M andd community at last there was hope for us all Kath I understand you designed this jersey can you tell us about it I was honored to be asked to design this year's leit right no charity shirt which the players will wear tonight because I can no longer hold a paint brush I designed the shirt using my ey machine on the bottom corner of the shirt is a copy of the picture I painted on my ey of prop and Kev which I gave to Kev last year on one of his amazing challenges I also picked drops number seven and toon flow which is a flower associated with them ending I will feel very proud tonight seeing the players and lots of fans wearing the shirt passed away this week yeah he he had his all of his rugby league cuz I'm a big rugby league fan this shirt out G is cell which is where I come from laner they call it mey side now but it's not it's laner and Rob played for lead all through his life and he was a fabulous player he was about 5 foot four and he could run through all the big Fells no problem at all and Denise and I and my dad and me brother Jim we used to go to the Grand Final most years have a nice nause old traid and a good game and it didn't matter who won we it was nice of your team one that's no doubt about that had a stroke in 2010 so we couldn't take him anymore he was in a nursing home so he went up for the 2011 game and it was shellin and Leeds and it was all 2 two I was going on Aging it wasn't breaking then the Saints Captain got and took off and then they brought this fell they brought him on the pitch all 5'4 of him and I was in the street for then well we were with our s jerseys on all since 's in that and we watched this fell from the halfway line he went through cellence like a knife through butter they couldn't touch him just couldn't lay a finger on him and it's turned out now it's been classed as the greatest ever Grand Final try and when he scored it and remember I'm s ens and his leads I jumped up out of my seat and cheered for him and everybody around is going did your dad not tell you that it's entertainment it's two teams and when you see something good you do this and what he did was fabulous and he won the Harry Sunderland trophy that night as well which is the man of the match in the Grand Final I have a cousin Michael Michael Burke who won that trophy as well with witness and witness is quite near C Ellis but we don't forgive him for that anyway this fell passed away and I'm sure You' have seen his captain there Kevin sinfield doing marathons for him seven marathons in seven days and poor Rob past away I think it was Sunday he's got a lovely like wife Lindsay three lovely children his mom and dad they were just beautiful people first thanks for that intro J great to be here guys already flew in last night and I wouldn't have it any other way if I out s day um can't wait for tomorrow night um I know there's some opportunity for some guys they're going to debut for the club uh for that wait my time up at the nights was up um and I didn't know where I was going to end up but I I knew I would love to come to the UK one day and it was to be lead Ros so I played um a lot against the lead Ros players in B Kev during the uh the series of ashes and against Great Britain and England and I just respected the hell out of the way they played even Ry Bailey had F against him but J was good to play with B but um those guys Kylie and you know we can talk about the Y year but it's all about you guys stay boys and it's all about you guys from here on in as well so this is a big club uh the identity of the club for me has never been flash um I loved what it had it had an identity and it was always a lead way it was a tough way a lot of flash this club gets spoken about but it's not not that it's um a hardworking Town my town in Newcastle is a blue col hardworking Town um a big uni Town Newcastle this is a big uni town so there's a lot of similarities a lot of I just spoke about the sevens that were the Jersey Andrew Johns and Rob Rob Barrow uh for me the halfback represents the personality of your team and then as extension of that is your nine so you get to pass it to him 100 times a game so uh you got to have a combination together the middle obviously that that's where it's won and I can see tomorrow night no different the game's always been one on the advantage line um you big boys got an amazing opportunity uh along with the deut on to to set a tone that a full house super excited old boys to see uh you guys do your thing so um congratulations to your debutants um like I said it's I can talk about the old days that's what I'm here for to talk about the old days to the older players but it's about you boys it's about you boys being the best you can be and being first and foremost the best teammate you can be first Sunday sth juy CRS SC to pay their respects to the lead leg and M campaigner B fun took place on a day holding a special significant seven dry known as low Barrow day an
