perspective okay Syracuse needs this game more than Georgia Tech does the reasoning is pretty simple cuse has a first year head coach in Fran Brown and they haven't really had a signature win in the Fran Brown era mainly because well they haven't had the opportunity to have a signature win obviously Fran Brown is one and0 with Syracuse so far this is his first chance to get a signature win the oranges are currently two and a half Point home underdogs to Georgia Tech who by the way is the 23rd ranked team in the country so Fran Brown has a chance to get his first ranked victory in just his second game ever as a head coach and I say that literally not just with Syracuse this is the first time ever that Fran Brown has been a head coach at any level and he already has an opportunity to get a signature win it's also possible and this is also a tease for tomorrow's poll Friday that Syracuse can be ranked if they beat Georgia Tech this weekend I want to take you back to the previous head coach of Syracuse football he was the head coach for eight seasons from 2016 to 2024 and that is Dino babers now I think most people remember one particular victory in the dino babers era and that came in 2017 when Syracuse knocked off number two Clemson in the dome now that was in Dino baber's second year as a head coach but Dino baber's first signature win of his tenure actually came in year one and that was a 3117 victory over Virginia Tech who was at the time the number 17 ranked team in the country that was in 2016 Eric dundry had over 400 yards in that game so Dino babers got a signature win in his first season can Fran Brown do the same thing for Georgia Tech for their signature win perspective let's look at it from their eyes too because I see you Georgia Tech fans commenting in the comment section and I love it keep those comments coming this is a a shout out to you guys because Brent key who is the head coach the yellow jackets LED Georgia Tech to a bowl game last season for the first time since 2018 and they've had a couple of signature wins since Bren key has taken over at Georgia Tech last year they had two ranked wins at Miami albeit Miami essentially gave the game away by not kneeling the ball down but still you got to capitalize on your opportunities and that's what Georgia Tech did in that game right Miami made the mistake Georgia Tech capitalized on it you got to give him credit for that and also they won at UNC last year who had Drake May in case you missed it about Drake may he was the number three overall pick in last year's NFL Draft okay to the New England Patriots I know he's not starting in week one even though he's better than jacobe brassette but that's besides the point they won at North Carolina and in case you missed it in case you missed it Georgia Tech beat Florida State in Ireland in week zero now I know that that win maybe doesn't look as impressive but at the time Georgia Tech was a double digit Underdog and they found a way to win that game and to be honest with you all I think Georgia Tech even though the margin of of Victory is 24-21 on a last second field goal Florida state has a really good kicker I think he made multiple 50-yard field goals and aside from the first drive of the game FSU really didn't move the ball well at all so Georgia Tech handled their business against Florida State but with that being said in the Brank key era for Georgia Tech they have signature victories Syracuse in the Fran Brown era because it's only been one game does not have a signature win just yet and when you take a look at Syracuse's schedule and where a signature win can come from there's really only two opportunities left for the orange to get one of those wins at NC State would be a nice win and Miami at home looks like a tall task but would obviously be a huge victory in the final game of the season I think that is a long winded way of saying for Syracuse that this is a resume type building game where if you can beat Georgia Tech at home home even if you're not ranked in the top 25 you're going to be on people's radar that's that's that that's the reality of it we're obvious I think most Syracuse fans are happy with how the game for the most part went against Ohio and we know how good this offense can be because we saw it against the Bobcats last week it's time for the nation to be able to see it this would be a signal ature win to Kickstart the Fran Brown era which by the way I didn't think was possible through two weeks I didn't realize how good Georgia Tech was actually going to be they're a pretty good team 23rd in the country Fran Brown and company has a prime opportunity to get a statement win and this is not a far-fetched upset there's a reason why I mentioned the point spread off the top of the podcast the orange are two and a half Point home underdogs that's it that's it it's not asking for too much to be able to win this game I think against Miami right now if I had to guess the line which is the final game of the season for Syracuse they're going to be a double digit Point Underdog at at this point I mean that that's just respect to Miami they look incredible right now and they demolish Florida in the swamp they look like the clear favorite in the ACC when I look at their schedule for statement wins this might be their best chance this season perspective we just went over that Syracuse needs this game more than Georgia Tech needs this game mainly because well Fran Brown hasn't yet had the opportunity to have a statement win this week is his first test whereas Georgia Tech in the Brent key era has multiple signature wins right they they beat Miami last year on the road they beat North Carolina on the road last year they also beat Florida State in Ireland to open this season in week zero they got their statement wins it's time for Syracuse to get one so from that perspective Syracuse needs it but let's talk about bowl game and playoff implications and I want to start with playoff implications and contending in the ACCC race okay which a conference by the way that feels pretty open because Clemson looks vulnerable NC State's not really impressing me right now Virginia Tech a lot of people thought was a dark horse and well they just laid an egg ad Vandy so it looks pretty open but let's from a from a playoff perspective an ACC race let's take a look let's start with Syracuse this is a Syracuse podcast obviously Georgia Tech is a tough opponent than anticipated they're tougher I think for the most part going into the year we thought that this was a game that served use should win and now it feels like a tossup game because the yellow jackets look pretty good and as I said earlier it's a resume type building game in fact this could be the second toughest game on Syracuse's schedule only Miami I think would beat them right now that's it from which games are the toughest Miami I mean you can argue at UNLV could be pretty tough too as a non-conference but Georgia Tech might be the second toughest team on Syracuse's schedule so if you're looking at the rest of Syracuse's slate of games for this season if they were able to beat Georgia Tech then I think Syracuse established themselves as a contender for the ACC title number one they would have the tiebreaker over Georgia Tech in the event that they had the same conference record and number two the other conference DS for Syracuse aren't so daunting right they still got they got Stanford at home that's after the byee this week at NC State who I have said already did not impress me at all against Western Carolina at pit Virginia Tech who just laid an egg against Vandy at Boston College and then to end the season is Miami so if you beat Georgia Tech the pathway is there for Syracuse there are not many tougher games left on the schedule than the one they have coming up right now so from contending in the ACC and a college football playoff perspective Syracuse if they win this game has a prime chance to really Elevate themselves nationally and put and get everyone on the radar about Syracuse all right from a Georgia Tech perspective it's pretty simple if they lose this game they cannot contend for an ACC Championship they can't their schedule is a lot tougher than Syracuse first of all they would obviously lose the tiebreaker to the orange second their conference names coming up they still got to go at Louisville who is the 22nd ranked team in the country right now and they also have to play Miami and NC State at home if they were to lose to Syracuse their margin for error for contending in the ACC and a possible chance at the college football playoff gets razor thin how many wins is it going to take to get to the ACC title at minimum six you're G to have to go at least six and two if one of those losses is to Syracuse who could also go six and two you lose the tiebreaker so you're essentially if you're a Georgia Tech fan and you're listening to this channel you're watching this podcast you got to win this game to contend for the ACC you have to because otherwise you're gonna have to sweep at Louisville Miami and NC State in order to get to the to the ACC Championship game so from now a bull perspective okay Georgia Tech needs this game more than Syracuse and again it goes back to the schedule so before angry Georgia Tech fans come at me in the comment section let me explain I already gave you guys the tough games in Georgia Tech schedule in the ACC but if you look at their out of conference slate they still gotta play Notre Dame fifth ranked team in the country right there and you also got to go to Georgia who's the number one team in the nation just demolished Clemson in the opener Georgia Tech has to win they they absolutely need the game from a bll perspective if they were to lose and now they're two- one I'll give Georgia Tech this if they beat they're they're gonna beat VMI that's the following week's game and I'm also gonna say they beat Duke on October 5th that gets them to four wins but they're still gonna have to win two more and with those Dames that I've already mentioned that might not be a guarantee so Georgia Tech from a Bowl win perspect from a b game perspective has to beat Syracuse and conversely for Syracuse if they lose to Georgia Tech my record prediction in the beginning of the season was that Syracuse was going to go eight and4 and one of those wins was going to come against Georgia Tech so let's say that game is flipped I still think there are six to seven wins on the schedule period it comes down the schedule that's really the main takeaway from this Georgia Tech might be a quote unquote better team but they're playing tougher competition than Syracuse is this season so Georgia Tech maybe they don't need this game from a signature win perspective right I don't think this is a game where the committee is going to look back on and say yep that's the reason why we should take this team to the college football playoff for Syracuse it be the other way around they do need it from that perspective because their schedule's not hard but from a playoff to a bowl game implication Georgia Tech needs this game if they lose they cannot contend for the ACC and if they lose all of a sudden their chances of making a bowl game they go much much lower whereas Syracuse I still think they can pull out five to six more wins with their schedule so that is I hope that is the answer to who needs the game more from maybe a practical standpoint gone Prediction over some of the main players on Syracuse and Georgia Tech obviously a big quarterback battle between Kord and hannes King two of the better ones in the ACC we just set the stakes for the game from a signature win Feelgood perspective this is a game Syracuse needs but from maybe a more practical standpoint this is a game that Georgia Tech desperately needs so we have set the stakes we have laid out pretty much everything you need to know about the matchup coming up Saturday at noon it is now time for my prediction and how I think Syracuse and Georgia Tech will go Saturday at noon I have the orange winning this game that's right I have Syracuse 34 Georgia Tech 31 I think both teams have explosive offenses and both teams are going to give up yards in fact 34 31 might be underselling how much of a shootout this game could truly come or truly be however the reason why I only have it at 3431 is because both teams can run the ball really well and when you can run the ball you chew time off the clock so this is going to be a game about possessions we know that Syracuse needs to stop the run or at least contain the run in order to win this game I think that is pretty obvious but I'm gonna give you guys two keys for Syracuse for beating Georgia Tech on Saturday because I'm already accepting the fact that the oranges are going to give up yards Georgia Tech is a good team they're going to give up yards it's going to happen so there are two keys number one red zone defense last week against Ohio Syracuse had the ball for three plays they were they went three and out on the opening drive yet they only trailed six nothing why is that despite Ohio dominating the first quarter of the game the could not capitalize in the Red Zone the orange defense stiffened when it had to and gave their offense the chance to be able to find the Rhythm and catch up which is exactly what happened against Ohio so red zone defense is once again going to be critical Georgia Tech is going to move the ball they got a top quarterback in Haynes King their running game with Jamal Haynes is very good they have two Elite wide receivers Malik Rutherford and Eric Singleton Jr they're a good team they're going to move the ball and Syracuse hold Georgia Tech to field goals in the red zone that is the key number two the turnover battle turnover battle is often really important in games for this one in particular it is incredibly important dare I say that the team that wins the turnover battle is going to win the game here's why I already laid out the fact that both teams can run the ball both teams can shw the clock if a team has more possessions obviously they have more opportunities to score but they're also going to have more time to chew they can chew the clock if Syracuse especially can get out ahead and force Georgia Tech to throw that would work in Syracuse's favor Haynes King is a very good quarterback but at the same time last season he threw 16 interceptions he's goingon to throw you one or two or at least give you that opportunity to get your hands on the ball winning the turnover battle for Syracuse is imperative red zone defense and the turnover battle and call me an Optimus I think Syracuse is going to do a pretty good job in the red zone and I think they're going to force Georgia Tech into two turnovers Syracuse in my opinion will not turn the ball over two times and that's why I have Syracuse winning 3431 I also want to point out this stat about the run defense there was an article that recently came out on the post standard from Chris Carlson who does excellent work for syracuse.com I believe right there were 19 Miss tackles for Syracuse against Ohio 19 most of those came on running play most of them I gotta be honest with you all again this might be me just being optimistic I think that is an an aberration I I don't know how he missed 19 tackles again I know Georgia Tech is a better team than Ohio but that is such an absurd amount of missed tackles that I don't even think it's I might be just jinxing it completely but I don't even understand how that's even possible you miss that many tackles again so I think the defense particularly in their tackling is going to be better because I don't think it can be much worse than it was against Ohio and hopefully this doesn't get clipped and then shown around to everyone if Syracuse decides to go out and Miss 25 tackles which I don't think they're going to do overall I have Syracuse in a close one once again 3431 leave your score prediction in the comments Tech this is pretty much a pick them game I would say that it's 55 from a neutral perspective obviously Georgia Tech is the favorite team but it's only two and a half points and they're on the road so
