Joey Chestnut may have missed out on winning $10,000 and a 17 title at the Nathan's Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest this year but he scooped a $100,000 prize less than two months later following the controversy surrounding his amission from the annual event Netflix organized its own contest which was aired live on September 2nd and Chestnut clinched a six figure payout which made a mockery of the financial offering on July 4th the special competition named unfinished beef was a straight battle between two competitive eating Legends Chestnut and takaro Kobayashi the latter dominated the competitive eating scene and is credited for boosting its popularity before Chestnut took over and the Rivalry spaned over several years Kobayashi announced his retirement from competitive eating in 2014 with his last major achievement eating 62 slices of pizza in 12 minutes Netflix's lucrative offer brought him back into the world of competitive eating but once against he was dominated by the current number one eater in the world both contestants had 10 minutes to eat as many hot dogs as possible and Chestnut ended up breaking his own world record Chestnut ate 83 hot dogs which surpassed his record of 76 set back in 2021 while Kobayashi still managed to put away 67 both men smashed the leading total at Nathan's this year which saw Patrick Bert theti eat 50 8 hot dogs to take the crown away from Chestnut for the first time since 2015 Chestnut wasn't there to defend his title due to a complicated situation involving contracts for years the top heating contests have been organized by Major League eting who signed the majority of its participants Chestnut was signed to ml until this year when his deal expired but during an extended negotiation process due to his increase in stature and fame he opted to a deal with impossible Foods at the time this didn't appear to be a conflict of interest at least in Chestnut size however due to Impossible Foods being a brand it complicated matters as the annual hot dog eating contest started registering its participants Nathan's who sponsors the contest and uses its hot dog products considers impossible Foods as a direct drival and therefore didn't allow Chestnut to compete it led to mass backlash from fans as Chestnut is the main attraction due to his ability to eat abnormal amounts of food after statements were issued by m and Chestnut the tension cooled during the Nathan's event on July 4th as announcer George X said on stage that Joey was welcome back at any time Chestnut accused Elli of altering its terms and conditions after feeling gued to miss his favorite event claiming he had no knowledge of any wrongdoing when signing his contract Chestnut told Sports Illustrated at the time everything with impossible was perfectly fine by all my previous agreements they Chang terms and conditions around exclusivity and it's not the first time they've changed some things but it's the first time they've really changed things after the fact and I had to say hey it's too late I've already started working with this brand this was never an issue in the past and they tried to dance around it they changed a lot of terms and then they escalated things to a ree they didn't imagine when they started leaking information and telling people I was banned and that I turned vegan which clearly isn't the
