Why the Panthers shouldn’t sit Bryce Young!

Derek Brown is out for the season Bryce young is trying to find himself but the Carolina Panthers have to move on let's talk about it [Music] now hey folks thanks for tuning into the show this is most downloaded episode all time for me as a podcast content creator it is much appreciated for everyone that is tuning in around the world listening in in 41 countries I guess 40 countries outside of the US so it is much appreciated but now we got to talk a little football folks and hey you know this is the second year for me doing this of course yall know the podcast runs and runs and runs but second year in season that I've been able to do this and I got to tell you Sunday was frustrating I did go back I watched highlights watched the film and hey one second I'll plug before I before we dive into it I'll plug if you're looking for a film breakdown I do mind a little bit differently but I do offer a film breakdown exclusively on X formerly known as Twitter so if that's where if you're interested in that follow me on X just two growls one roar I never plug where to find me but I'm out there folks you can you can easily search it up my plan this year is after each game to go through the film do a breakdown when I say film I'm looking at the highlights it's about 10 11 minutes and it's a good portion of filming there some good plays by the offense some bad or hopefully good plays by the offense it's a mixture of plays so good plays for both sides or both teams I should say that's what I did so it's about 101 minutes of game tape I go through it in about 30ish minutes and then publish it out there for y'all to see it you can watch it live but we do not post it directly on YouTube just to avoid any copyright infringements making it easy for me personally as we grow and monetize and yeah all that fun stuff so that is that is out there now we got to talk folks and yeah the dust is settled like I said watch the film Carolina Panthers I there there's no way to come away from Sunday feeling good I'll be honest and y'all know I am Mr optimistic optimistic I guess right I I have a lot of optimism for myself in this team and I've always been like that it's difficult for me to get fired up even watching the games like watching the game on Sunday doesn't phase me as much any anymore like I get more upset watching college football than I do watching the Panthers and I don't know if that's because of where my head is watching this team like laser focus and I'm watching everything that happens throughout the week and doing a bunch of episodes recording listening to interviews I don't know what it is but it's just a little bit different for me but coming away from it it was a poor for poor performance absolutely terrible and we quite literally add insult to injury with Derek Brown in the announcement that he is going to miss the season it was a head scratcher if you didn't see I did a video this morning on YouTube recorded it right from the truck posted it so it's not of course like this standard setup but we talked about the impact of Derrik Brown and how the injury came about he doesn't know the team doesn't know I mean adrenaline is running High it happens at some point the meniscus and he when he got home I guess they figured it out so they evaluated he had a second opinion and official and you know Canalis yesterday said that it was a hair so odds were not in his court and it stinks man it stinks because he is the leader of the defense the pass rush and not that he even is one that usually generates a pass rush but we know who he is in the middle 100 plus tackles most by defensive lineman since they started tracking it that's the type of player he is he's a leader on the defensive side of the ball monster in the middle close to the middle it it's bad man it's bad news it's almost like you go back and remember sha Thompson getting hurt last year it feels kind of similar to that it's like man very early in the season Shacks was a freak play no idea how Derek Browns came about but it happened Panthers have to adapt and adjust and to DAP adapt and adjust I don't know where and how that's going to happen so news came through one like we said defensive tackle Derek Brown was placed on IR there were a few corresponding moves one being Felipe Franks was waved that was on the ninth they waved outside linebacker Jamie Sheriff they signed running back Mike Boon and cornerback Lonnie Johnson to the active roster Lonnie Johnson makes sense because it was talked about when he was brought over that the plan was to get him on the active roster I don't know he was promoted up Mike Boone as well I think Mike Boon possibly getting a few more touches in the running game like that's that's my two cents and what I would love to see because to be honest miles and Shuba Hub did not look the part the other day they also signed Deshawn Williamson remember him to the practice uh yeah to the practice squad and aiz Hearn now the other transaction and unfortunately have to go back the Panthers picked up and I'm going to have to scroll scroll scroll I apologize because I thought it would it would be recorded in the panthers.com transaction history but it was not so now I've got to find it as I go through looking this up we're getting there maybe slowly but surely it was earlier here we go they are signing veteran defensive end Charles Harris as reported by Tom peliso he was a former first round pick of the Dolphins he has 16 and a half career sacks he's labeled as a defensive end some folks saying Edge wherever he's going to play we need some help and there's no doubt that we need help we got to get some sacks I think they said signing him in week two versus week one has to do with money so I think the Panthers don't have to pay him nearly as much as they would so it's logical but I think the question of when we talk about logic it's and you you probably wonder this with Derrick Brown being out it's like how logical is it that we are going to see an improvement on the defensive side of the ball compared to what we saw last week and so I went back and well one I already talked about the film a little bit there was a lot of bad not a lot there was a ton of bad I mean all around execution we can start with Bryce Bryce will always be the focal point he was terrible I have folks out here that are like oh I saw some good stuff on the all 22 film like no no you didn't I'm sorry like whatever you saw was garbage time this dude put up a little right at 50 yards in the first half 50% completion percentage 22 something qbr he was absolutely terrible he puts up 160 yards what 111 in the second half garbage time when they were getting blown out 30 to3 had the interception right a after halftime I'm not here to harp on that I will say you know cuz coming out of Sunday it's easy to overreact I will tell you I don't think it there's a future right now where they bench Bryce young yet I'll use the keyword yet it's a little too early and even me is a realist and person that's kind of uh very upset over the performance and what we've seen in his first 17 NFL games that's just not it I think they've got to give it a little more time to the flip side of that I'm just tired of losing and I want to see competitive football but the pockets were there receivers got separation running game wasn't there but Bryce has got to figure this thing out on the defensive side of the ball like I said and missed tackles missed assignments blown coverage effort wasn't great but they were getting destroyed special teams special teams concerns me like we're not we're not talking about special teams enough blocks terrible on coverage like there there is no coverage on this team maybe you miss a Sam Franklin in a situation like this but it it's it's so bad man I talk about Chris tabber having this team coached up on special teams he did and we look pathetic so you have all three phases not working things aren't going to pan out well but let's take a look at the defense and I went through X if you follow me on there you've already seen this if not go out and see it so I did a threat on the Panthers defense and I'll just go through it so one I don't post many long messages on X I felt like the subject deserved a thread just to talk about the the state of the Panthers defense on Sunday so let's acknowledge a few things one they performed poorly I said that they performed bad I rewatched the game and I agreed that they did not play up to standard I don't know that they are as bad as people think so we got to consider the circumstance and let's start by talking about field position so I went through this but the Saints had a 14 yard Advantage when it comes to field position over the Panthers 14 yard difference starting the average starting field position for the same was their own 44 yd line meaning that they are practically starting at almost Midfield on every single drive and so no defense is going to look good when you're giving the other teams a short field and you're giving them a short field one off of turnovers two off of poor poor coverage through special teams but the second so one guess taking it back so how that Advantage came to be which we said the offense had three turnovers on Sunday two interceptions which we know the one fumble by Mingo the other fumble was recovered by us defense held New Orleans to a field goal attempt after the first interception and not just any field goal attempt it was a 57 y like the Saints kicker dominated it hurts second turnover which was the Mingo fumble resulted in a field goal so you really only gave up six points so both both situations New Orleans could have easily scored 14 or even more defense managed to hold them to six and again right before the half the Panthers gave up the big punt return that's part of the field position game Saint score got the ball at the 16 yard line like there there's just nothing you can do with that how many teams are going to stop that we know coming out of the half we already down 30 30 to3 offense turns the ball over after three plays the Bryce interception and that ends up you know opening things up 37 to3 so in total 13 points off turnovers say that's pretty good could have been up to 21 and then you throw in the punt return cuz the punt return I mean where they ended up Landing down there at 16 yard line you're now you you jump all that together you're talking about 20 points that was almost out of the the defensive hand on Sunday on top of that you have the busted coverage so you got 20 points there busted coverage 27 points that were given up came off of turnovers they were tied to poor field position or a busted coverage so that's a difference in this game finishing at 20-1 set of 47-10 by the way this was the biggest blowout in Saints and Panthers history as they battle each other biggest blowout in the series most points scored by either team it was bad I know I've talked about special teams I don't know when special teams are going to get better but they've got to figure it out and you now turn to the defense and the defensive side of the ball which we know without your your anchor in the middle Derek Brown it's going to be hard it's going to be very hard it's not going to get easier and I think the the other way that it can become a little bit easier is seeing Bryce young be successful and I want him to be successful we are not asking for a lot I tweeted out at some point the number one overall pick you select has to perform like the number one overall pick someone wanted to respond to me and say that's I mean basically say that's a dumb statement because the player can't help that they're drafted where they're drafted I'm like you understand that you are drafted that high because your expectations and scouting across all these teams says you are this good like it's lame to me like do you think people want to say oh yeah just like I can't get over that that notion that notion is completely BS you know I don't cuss on here it's completely BS statement that there is no pressure or that he does not have to deliver or he can't control it that's this whole no I can't even go there but it it's just not it folks so I do want to see Bryce develop I want to see winning football for crying out loud and if things are not going well and I threw up a chart most people want to give Bryon till the end of the season it's logical to do that but for the sake of just football if for some if somehow defense finds life running game comes alive and we start to maybe squeak together some winds and it still looks like Bryce is holding us back I'd love to see Andy and I don't think Andy's going to do anything but Andy still has the most passing yards by this the Bry younga he played in the one game against Seattle I know they threw the ball a lot but Bryce is nowhere close to that Bryce is not one on the road all the things that we thought he was out of Alabama and it it does suck to be on this side of the equation because we've seen a lot of bust in the NFL I talked about way back when he was drafted when I started this podcast and I was talking about CJ strad and Bryce Shong I said who you know one you're always going to have to compare these two number that's one statement number two you're you're going to have or wherever you land with this pick is going to impact the franchise for X number of years in a good way or a bad way we're seeing a lot more of the bad than good listening yall know I like to listen to a lot of sports radio I mean at this point we're not even comparing Bryce young to CJ strout at least in Carolina like that's that's years down the road far out the window we just want to see a competent NFL quarterback that can throw for 200 210 15 yards maybe two touchdowns manage the game it's unfortunate that Bryce young the Gunslinger out of college is now just trying to be a game manager you stack up and look at his production compared to some others and rough starts there was a a funny tweet in I'm not going to remember the quarterbacks but they were comparing like Caleb Williams stats or Bo Nicks to Josh Allen and then someone chimed in and because they were trying to say like oh it's going to be okay and someone chimed in yeah well Bryce is pretty similar and look how that worked out oh my gosh anyways folks we got football coming up man and uh Chargers coming into town good news is with both of these fan bases we are used to other people coming into town and taking over our stadiums I went back though watched the Chargers they looked impressive I mean they didn't look like a scary team but they did the right thing had some things fall their way forced a few turnovers the running game looks fantastic offensive line stood up great defense looked good I said with the forcing the turnovers I think it's going to be a competitive game I was going out here to look and tell you what the line is right now oh this is wild the oh okay the Line is now six and a half folks they opened as three-point favorites and it's now they're almost a touchdown favorite the Los Angeles Chargers six and a half I was going to say I knew it was like three three and a half on it this was like two weeks ago as the lines move so they are six and a half Point favorites let's look the Raiders line should be out here too may not be n they're I'm just using using espn.com I'm sure that you can get your lines wherever else you want to get them but and other news unrelated to anything Michael Barrett remember Michael Barrett draft pick who got traded in the Mike Jackson trade he bounced around with Seattle practice active practice he was released by them unfortunately I wouldn't be surprised if the Chargers try to pick him up because harball had ties to him speaking of harball man har ball squeaking out the winds and I know I personally wasn't a big fan of him coming here but the dude just wins football games man I I I don't know how he figures out how to most motivate these teams it's not more the motivation because I would say from a coaching standpoint you must be doing something right Scandal aside I just throw that joke in there but it looks looks like he's goingon to have a good team coming into town so sorry you I just bit my tongue so anyways I don't care about that anyways folks anyways folks that is going to do it for today's episode we will have a Chargers preview coming out later this week
