okay let's bring you some uh very sad news this Monday morning and uh we are hearing that Sven yuran Erikson has passed away after a long illness he died during the morning at home surrounded by his family the closest MERS his daughter Lena his son Johan with his wife ammana and granddaughter Sky his girlfriend yanet with the son alas his brother La Eric was there with his wife yum Nong as well um the family are asking as you could quite understand for respect for their wish to mourn in private um and they have said though condolences and greetings can be left on the website he had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer reports coming out sadly just over the weekend that he was too ill to do his favorite walk around his Lake in Sweden where he lived uh but we are hearing this morning that he has passed away at the age of 76 Steven Warner sad news uh a man you knew well a man that gave you opportunities yeah really sad news um such a lovely guy um he was the obviously England's first forign manager um someone that gave me my first opportunity of international football called me up and um I'll be forever indebted to him for that but what was very apparent was just his his likability um when you stepped in a room he made you feel very comfortable um very calm in the way he was where he approached his the football side of things and when he was on the training ground he was very relaxed but he also had a an authority about him uh and an AA about him with on on the training field where you respected him um but away from the pitch he was just a real likable guy and someone that I'm I'm sure I'm not speaking on just my behalf but a lot of people within the England squad had a lot of time for him a lot of respect for him as a person because he was very respectful towards them as people as well yeah and there was that lovely touch wasn't there Sue where he was given the opportunity uh to manage at anfield for Liverpool uh he sort of team that he supported a long long career started with deer fors in 1977 he went there originally as an an assistant to the legendary Tor grip and then took over uh as manager and he he went all the way around the world really the likes of benica gothenberg Roma all way into Italy had a good spells there and International Management as well as that spell at Leicester too and Manchester City let's not forget that one a long career yeah a really long long career and you know managing at the the top level like you mentioned winning titles in in Portugal in in Italy the Cup winners cut with with latio obviously managing England being England's first foreign manager and you look at all of his achievements on the field but I think the thing that that comes out with sengar and Ericson is is his character how his likability I think that's the the word that you used and and that's something that you know I think we'll we'll all remember when he he was the England manager and yeah it's just really sad news and you obviously just pass on your condolences to all his his family and friends yeah because if you if you hear reports Stephen and you give us the inside track here England at that time was could be quite difficult to manage yeah because you had quite a big rivalry between different camps coming in to the group how did he handle that was that his area of expertise because he seemed to be a wonderful man manager yeah he was he was brilliant at at that side of the game and I think it's something that's very probably underappreciated with his with his style of management let let's not forget if if Wayne Rooney hadn't got injured in the oros England would have probably have won that euros and it was down to people like Sven picking a young Wayne Rooney and believing in him giving him that confidence to go on the pitch listen he was Untouchable unplayable at those times but you've got to build you've got to have the foundation behind him to to be able to achieve that and creating the right atmosphere within a camp was something that he was very good at doing um as as I say he was he was a great man and when you've got them skills to be able to put that into a camp with 23 grown men uh or from different clubs or from sort of rival clubs and bringing them all together he made it work extremely well yeah we we heard about especially when when it was the World Cup I think out in Germany where he got the extra long beds in uh for some players who are a little bit taller than others so he thought of all those things and he understood kind of how to deal with the players but tactically what was he like he was good uh extremely good I think the the work that he did on the training ground he did a lot of it he wanted to be involved in it uh Sammy Lee was his coach who I knew at Liverpool as well um but they had a great relationship of knowing Samy knew when he was going to step in when was the right time to step in um and I think that's obviously the the skill set of a manager but as I said before when he spoke you listened as well um on the training ground because you knew the information coming across was was good information as well um so I think uh listen he'll be he'll be very dearly missed by the football World he'll be missed by his obviously his friends and his family and people that he's he's worked with along the way because as I said he he's that that type of character where you couldn't help but wanted it want him to do well um and that speaks volumes for the man I think he's he's kind of in some ways Roy Hudson Springs to mine as a Trailblazer these these managers who can seem to go to different countries and Italy is a hard nut to crack isn't it because they they have that long tradition of football yeah um but being a a foreign manager in charge of England for the first time is also a a difficult one to do but he seemed to take that in his stride didn't he yeah like you're saying to be able to be successful in in all of those different countries just shows the quality of of manager that he was and the ability to to have those player management skills to be able to get the best out of players tactically put things there but making sure you get the best out of them and and those little like those small margins like you said about you know an extra long bed or you know just something that makes the players go okay we really want to play for this guy tactically he knows what he's talking about but he's also looking after us as as people as well and and that says a lot about a person he also had to handle that Eternal question of uh Lampard Gerard skulls in the Midfield didn't he that I mean that was a tricky one yeah and and one of those situations where now if if formations were a little bit different it might have been a little a different sort of uh conundrum for him to change or to to to get the best out of those players but he did exactly he did what he felt was right for the team and the way that he played them um it was always a big ass to try and get those those players into a system and keep them happy um but I think he did a magnificent job for England I think one thing you have to look at when you when you look at a manager like this is is longevity you you don't stay in the game for that long without being a people person and understanding how to manage players and that is a one of the biggest skill sets that he possessed as a manager as well I I also think back to his time just thinking off the top of my head now when you you think of him in a Press Room when he when he was greeted by the English press he was so welcoming all the time so relaxed in the way that he approached them any question that was fired atad him whether it was his personal life whether it was football side of it things he dealt with things in the right manner you never really see saw him off the top of me head where I think back and think he lost control of a situation he was always very calm in the way that he was yeah I can remember after the World Cup when he finally stood down he walked into that into that Press Room didn't he and and he said don't Hammer the players have a go at me yeah turn it on me because it's it's unfair I think he was talking particularly about Wayne Rooney maybe at that moment in time and and that sending off and he said don't have a go at Wayne put it on me and and that takes a lot good it because lesser people would have gone around ah it's all his fault you know I'm out of here you know but that showed the the courage and the decency yeah of the man yeah and the type of man that he was to to do that like you say because it's quite easy to say oh I'll step back you know I'm I'm walking away from this let's blame other people but no he didn't he took full responsibility for that and and was still even in that situation looking after his his players so yeah there's so many you know when you you think of different things that he's he's achieved both on and off the field you he's done so much in his his life but yeah of course he's going to be sadly missed by the football world and of course by his family and friends yeah and the fact that he didn't perhaps stay he could have stayed in a comfort zone didn't he but he he he took the risk went out of China at one point went to the Philippines he's just a love for football that Rob and that's that's what's great about him and again that's what I admire so much about him and and you look at his career that he's had is like he's never just like you say stayed in the comfort zone and stayed in one country and stuck to his stuck to what he knows he's gone and tested himself and that's made him arguably a better manager along the way and he's learned from different cultures and the way people are so different within different countries and I think it's a credit to him of what he achieved in his career and I guess sadly what sums him up the dignity he has shown since he revealed in January that he had terminal cancer he's his his public appearances since then have been very dignified there's never been seems to be a moment of self-pity no very dignified in in how he has conducted himself yeah cuz I think everyone was devastated when they heard the news when he came out and and said that he he had terminal cancer and you know it obviously the thing that stands out when you mentioned earlier when he went to to manage Liverpool in in that that game which he was obviously a Liverpool fan he wanted to do that and and you know he did that and he he continued to to show that that dignity right until the end so there was reports coming out wasn't at the weekend that he was too ill to to actually go and do the things that he loves to do whether that was going for walks and um so yeah it's it's terribly terribly sad but dignity all the way through and and there didn't seem to be any self-pity it was just about this is what's happened to me and and this is how I'm I'm going to sort of deal with it very sad news uh we are hearing this morning then that uh Sven yuran Erikson has died at the age of 76 El
