Does Jenn the Bachelorette get the Ick with Sam?

Housekeeping update welcome back to reality TV therapy it has been a hot minute in this video I'm going to do a summary for the first three episodes of Jen The Bachelorette season what we can learn and the theme thus far welcome to reality TV therapy with me Dr Diane well let me do a little light housekeeping before we get started I'm happy to hear that Joey and Kelsey and charity and dton and Zach and Katy are all going strong as couples and of course you've heard that the golden Bachelor has called it quits I'm not surprised but I will admit I'm actually bummed now the good news is that uh Joan is going to be our golden Bachelorette and that is going to start this September 18th it looks like it's going to be on a Wednesday night and I am here for all of it but I want to make a big announcement because I'm pivoting I'm not been on YouTube as much I will tell you I've been having some of my own health problems I'm doing fine but menopause has really kicked me hard I'm a middle-aged woman and I actually am going to be doing a channel that talks about issues like hormones um like identity like relationships later in life and I'm going to call it reframing midlife but I will announce that soon it's going to be a podcast and videos and I'm actually super excited about it but I have to admit I feel a little old in this space and I'm just wanting to do something that's a little bit more in sync with where I am now enough about me Who is Jenn Tran? and I'm happy to answer any of your questions but let's get into this episode with Jen what do we know about Jen Tran well she's a 26-year-old beautiful Asian Vietnamese woman and a lot of people can relate to Jen so often in this franchise we have not had the diversity that we really need diversity matters Jen explained herself that growing up she never saw anyone that looked like her find love on TV so I think casting here makes a huge difference in the lives of many young Asian girls there's been no Asian Bachelorette thank you so much seriously it means a lot there is a lot of responsibility being the first Asian American Bachelorette you know I want to be able to make everybody proud of make you know my Heritage proud finally we're having representation they deserve now if we recall Jen on Joey season she made her grand Bachelor entrance riding on the go-kart and her and Joey went surfing she was really adventuresome she played the piano I got the sense that all the girls liked her and she made it to episode 7 right before hometowns when she was eliminated but I really think Jen was an unpr problematic Queen I saw her on the women tell all she has a real vivacious energy again and she is just a stunner what about what else do we know about Jen and her background well her parents are immigrants both of them were raised in Vietnam her brother was also born there she however was born on the east coast and her mom now lives in Boston and she was raised by a single mom Jen said that her mother gave up med school to um help her children she was raised bilingual she Jen also admitted to Joey that her parents did not have a good relationship we're going to watch for this theme but that she felt unwanted by her dad not loved and what we know in Psychology is called repetition compulsion when then you look to replicate what you learned from your parent and Jen admits that she's been in some relationships where she's not been put first again a theme we're going to be watching for now what else about Jen she play play basketball lacrosse and high school she is a smart woman because she graduated with the Bachelor's of Science in molecular biology in 2020 from Madison Wisconsin she's dedicated to her life to helping others and she is now in PA school which is no easy feat um again her mother gave up CH her chances for medical school so I sense that this is following in her mother's footsteps but she's in school in Miami Florida and when she's not not studying she loves reading books paddle boarding traveling whenever she gets the chance but what I'd like about Jen is that she seems really self-made and she is a whipper snapper she is going to tell you exactly how she feels and what she thinks no holds bar I don't know if you got to see her on Kelly Rippa but Kelly Rippa usually brings on The Bachelor Bachelorette because it is ABC and she was asking Jen well why do you need to go on the show why can't you meet somebody like everybody else at work or online and Jen said well I am on hinge and Kelly by the way how did you meet your husband Mark Consuelos because they met on TV so I'd like that Jen holds her own and she can sass back a little bit now Jen also tells us in night one that she is looking for what she calls a fierce love what does that even mean well I think the goes back to her dad right when her dad didn't fight for her she's not surprisingly looking for someone who's going to fight for her I'll get into Jen's attachment style when I get to see her a little bit more at this point again I just like that she's outspoken and she's not going to put up with crap okay so let me go through the knights pretty quickly and Limo Entrances tell you what stood out for me thus far KN one limo entrances now what I love I love a catchy theme okay I love when people will go all in and when the theme kind of matches the lead right when um Rodney came out like an apple for Michelle because she's a teacher I think those are that you're really taking the next step and paying attention so for me the limo entrance that's stood out was Jonathan he was the one who came with the hospital gown you know he had no underwear on um but like he had bandages and she works in a hospital and I really liked that theme we had a couple swaave guys right rant came out making music there was Sam of course with the shot clock there was a guy in skis we had Thomas a with the puppies Jeremy and his car that was he was confident but there was like that conflict I just thought okay this is kind of silly but what I did like is that the producers mixed it up a little bit they had them play Truth or Dare and I thought that seemed a little bit more fun to me and then of course we had Brett who um did the splits in the truth or dare and we're going to talk about Brett because he left way too soon but he's getting lots of press and if you follow roses for everybody I've been on Jen's podcast before um you know she really talks about we do want more diversity and are they using Brett for publicity but maybe he is going to be like grocery store Joe maybe we're going to see him in Paradise but I do think that we are ready for bigger bodies the trouble is we don't need just one to stereotype we need more bodies like that I did like that Jen didn't kiss everyone right she was selective and then she gave Sam um Sam M the first impression Rose and when she went in for that kiss boy that was like a fantasy sweet kiss very hot very steamy um and we know sometimes first impression Rose matter sometimes they don't so I'm not going to put too much weight on that but anyway I like the first episode I thought it was fun I thought it was light-hearted and what I did love is the mixup that we're going we're traveling already going to Night 2: Australia Australia I think that was a bold move it was because we were not at the old Bachelor Mansion I don't know if they lost their contract what happened there but I do love when they travel and let's face it that's got to be expensive when you are uh you know legitimately traveling with that many guys so the first date we start in Australia with this veite date this is kind of the group date they're at the Australian Market um and Devin gets a lot of flak because he pulls Jen to have a private moment with her and he really kind of Ruffles some feathers okay we'll get to that later but then we've got the first oneon-one Marcus who got a really good package I think Marcus is going to go far Marcus and Jen share an instant connection but he is an Army Ranger and we have to thank Marcus for his service he um in their day portion of the date they did um they jumped out of a plane which was really exciting and Jen you know went for it she had this adorable little outfit and um this reminded me of Matt and Rachel kirkconnell when they went skydiving and Rachel had took like a bad crash at the end I was so hoping that wouldn't happen for Chan so that was a fun dat but then in the evening portion Marcus shares a vulnerable story about that he was serving in Afghanistan and he was injured at first I was like is Jen really kind of responding well to that but she does ask a lot of good kind of follow-up questions and I do think she has empathy she did say that she thought that this was the start of a beautiful love story so I'm hopeful about Marcus okay next we had this group date and I have to say I'm so over like the old you know bride date and the you know fashion shoot that I thought this one was really fun not to mention the guy down under was a super cute host and then we have all these animals and poses and we've got hakee with all of his face play and then of course the snake comes out and Jen's afraid of snakes and Dylan steps up recognizing her threats and then they have a little private one-on-one which I thought was great now the end of night two is clearly highly produced by The Producers yes okay because now we're seeing all the tension between Aaron and Devon Evan is pissed that Devon you know interrupted the group date um these two just do not respect each other but what's interesting is Aaron of course is the twin brother of Noah and if you recall uh Noah and Bennett they got into it because Bennett was calling Noah a baby and gave him this book on um emotional intelligence or something like that well similarly there's this book which is actually a madeup book it doesn't even exist principles for self-growth because the author on the book is like one of The Producers I'm like okay okay this is just kind of silly but clearly to highlight the tension between these two and Devon's like he's not having it and Aaron you know is like oh this book was helpful to me so that was the old reference if you didn't know let's get to night three um we Episode 3: Down Under start with Spencer and their helicopter date a lot of this was edited out because we didn't get to see that much it was a very quick you know they they're on this beautiful helicopter and then in the night portion Spencer really does um get vulnerable and talk about the fact that he had a fiance who ended up cheating on him but interesting on Spencer's um Instagram stories he was sharing something that he had a backstory that he was like 300 pounds so good for Spencer that he um uh again has lost the weight it kind of reminded me of Zach's story a little bit but we didn't get into that I'm not sure if we'll hear more about that I didn't see huge Chemistry Between Jen and Spencer but I thought it was a lovely date and of course the fireworks Etc now let's get to what they're forewarning on if you have a weak heart I thought this was kind of funny and I'm an old lady but I don't have a weak heart um of the Australian Thunder from Down Under And I also thought they just did some great editing here like they had the slow-mo kind of dolphin dive um and the men really brought it right this is supposed to be fun light-hearted um there's kind of like a lot of eye candy Jen is clearly into it she's got these women from Australia who were on I guess their equivalent of the bachelor Bachelorette um and I thought that made it a little bit more fun but the guys Marcus in particular he really brings it he is the astronaut we've got Jonathan in the firefighter kind of uh hose he whips whips it off and he has the J uh shorts we had Thomas a with the ABS um but I have to say that Sam underwhelmed me like there's all this hype about you know he's in his element this is what he does this is great there's nothing he won't do and yeah he did the dolphin dive but I just was underwhelmed by this and I really think what was important here was that these two other women the Australian women say to Jen don't choose the hot guy it didn't work for me and I got the sense that Jen was listening because it was just like that moment and there was a moment later where I felt like she got a little bit of an ick I know she's into him but I'm or maybe I'm projecting that maybe she's not that into him okay so Devon though really brings it he goes all in he's goofy he does not have the best body he admits it um but he makes fun of it and and I really like that because I think Jen in particular she's not a super serious though she's smart I think she likes to have fun and he definitely brings that he's loud he's confident is really forward later of course he admits his insecurities um that you know he too had struggled with being overweight but I give Devon a lot of credit now when it comes to Devon's attachment style for me this is why I watch the show right it's got more of that anxious kind of flavor um but I don't think it's too pompous I think he's really focused on Jen and so that's why I'm really okay with it now Sam n you know they're building this story I'm a lover not a fighter kind of thing but this is the same Sam who said that he was a love virgin which was kind of provocative but I'm guessing that the producers put Sam up to this saying you know I mean he doesn't want to like you know strip and get naked so they're like you got to come up with something else so they come up with telling her that he's falling in love with her this if you also recall because I I love the history was Luke p on Hannah Brown season at the talent show where he did the exact same thing said I'm falling in love with you and I think you're kind of flattered like this is working but at the same time you're like okay that's just kind of weird and of course the guys cannot let this go we've got Sam and Thomas a they're really you know hating on Sam along with hating on Devon um but again Devon's one of the girls he's ordering like you know Soda cranberry um so I don't know the second group date was smaller and it's the four guys who are in the race car driving I actually think that four is like a perfect number because you get to spend a little bit more time with these guys but it was fun they're in the race car Jen by the way when she comes in in her pink little tracksuit and that car and that slow-mo sort of whipping of her hair I'm like she looks adorable she is just really in her element and I love that for her um so now we're back to Aaron again Noah herbs twin brother they really do look alike but there's something about Aaron and I can't quite put my finger on it like first off I'm not quite sure where we're going with the pearls you know there was a bear that they show with the pearls but like he's stirring the pot and then there's this whole story about that he gets a call um you know from Pilot training school that he needs to go but I've heard a rumor that it was Jen sending him home so I'm not so sure if that actual conversation happened or not but why did his brother tell him hey if you want more airtime stir the pot but I'm not quite sure about all of this and to be honest Aaron again there's something you know he's the manly guy he's the pilot um you know he's the only guy who knows stick but there's something about a little bit of metrosexual no judgment here at all but I just feel like um there's a little negativity Along With Sam and um Thomas and now Aaron I feel like it's these three guys that are kind of just negative right then even bringing up with Jen later when he's already leaving like stirring the pot that some people aren't here for the right reason but I'm not going to tell you who and she kind of gets pissed off about that which I do not blame her it's like why are you doing that okay let's get back to Sam he Sam: Does Jenn Get the Ick? reminds me of Juan Pablo do you remember he's clearly the villain of the Season there's so much talk about like respecting each other but at this point he's becoming obsessed with Devon um but he was a problem from night one do you notice he was critiquing everyone's entrance I pay attention to these things I'm like ooh there's just like negativity right from the beginning then he gets Thomas in on it and then the question is why is he so bothered by Devon okay so and I love the producers when underneath somebody's name he says needs to know the definition of bully because he's saying that Deon is a bully and I don't think that's true at all um I don't imagine that Sam's going to be there for long it kind of reminds me of Charity with Xavier like you think there's just so much chemistry but I don't get the sense that she's going to keep him from along because again I think she got the ick here's where she got the ick after Aaron leaves Jen comes back and addresses the crowd we've seen this before and says if you're not here for the right reasons she wants the men to get a little bit nervous and then when she confronts him and she's talking with each of them at the Rose ceremony Sam is just cocky like I've got nothing to worry about I'm not scared but there was something the way she held her mouth that just looked looked a little bit like an ick like why aren't you a little bit scared I want someone to fight for me again this is this Fierce love okay so and then Spencer finally confronts all the guys like can we just stop it already because this is just getting kind of silly now my only concern about Jen wanting the fierce love somebody to fight for her does that set her up for someone to love bomb her like I'm going to be watching for the guys are they coming on too strong because in her mind that's what she wants right if I didn't have that my dad didn't fight for me and my past I've had exes that haven't made me a priority then I want somebody really to fight for me but I want to make sure it's a good balanced uh love relationship right with some good healthy communication so I'm hopeful for Jen so what can we learn about a reality check because this is how I like to close my videos can we learn learn Reality Check: What Can We Learn? anything from this season well what not to do don't be Sam he says that it's about the thing but he's distracted because the thing is Jen right um but what I like about Jen what we can learn from her is she doesn't appear to get too flustered we're not seeing that in the promo usually they forewarn that or usually the lead says something like this is hard we're probably going to get to that but I haven't heard her say that just yet and thankfully no ceremonies have been cancelled I think there are some good guys though I really like Marcus Jeremy um he was the one who in the race car driving right he stops the car pulls her over for a kiss I thought that was a bold move and I think that's going to suit him well Spencer I really like Jonathan um again he got the rose for the men down under um so I'm thinking there are just some good guys now they've teased us what's going to happen there's a lot of travel up ahead but I think there's going to be a powerful ending right there's always the neverbe seen ending what if Jen asked somebody to marry her like that would be a different ending cuz I feel like Jen is going to control her own narrative she's going to even tell her mother hey it's my choice and I like that she seems again empowered educated and gosh I've hoped this for my bachelorettees in the past please go back to what you were originally doing because when you get deep into the social media and become an influencer it's like your essence is gone I love the women who go back to what they're doing she's taking a break from PA school but let's hope Jen finds her way back so that's what I'm going to end with today what to do be your own person be empowered speak up what not to do is get wrapped up in somebody else's story um so good to be back as I said I missed
