Aaron Boone on 14-7 loss, Nestor Cortes' outing vs STL

Aaron a little bit of a rough day in the outfield for SOTO starting in that second inning. What did you see on that ball team? I think early on it was a tough guy with the, just the weather. Um, so there's tough reads. I think he just read it as a shorter pop up and went in and Then just got himself in trouble there and couldn't recover. Um, but, but just overall, you know, obviously tough day for us , you mentioned the weather. How much do you think that played into that fourth inning? Um, I don't, I don't think a lot , you know, I think maybe the first couple of pitches of, of the inning when it started raining really hard, but, you know, I mean, that's part of the game, you gotta, you gotta settle in there. And, um, so, um, you know, once we got kinda got through that, maybe it affected a couple of pitches. Um, you know, we still had our chances to get out. I thought the, that was at the inning walker hit the ball in the hole. It looked like it did field condition just wise, it looked like it kind of skipped, there were a couple of balls that skipped out there. A couple on Anthony one that he made a great play on and the other one later in the game with , uh, with win, it was just kind of skipping. So that, that probably had a little effect. Did you think Verdugo had a chance at that ball down the line? I was hoping we're, we're shading in the, in the left center gap there. And, you know, I mean, Doug, he's got about as much range as anyone. Um, so you, you kind of pulling for it, you know, wind didn't hit it great and it wasn't hooking. So it, you know, kind of, I think he caught it off the end so it, it stayed straight. Um, I knew it was gonna be close. It was, but a long way to go was soto playing too shallow on the new bar ball in the seventh inning. Did you view that as a catchable ball? Um, I didn't off the bat just watching new bars at bat. I thought he had a really good at bat and, and, and got, you know, hung in there on the 32 pitch and, and stung it. So right off the bat. I didn't feel like it was, um, I didn't feel like that in the moment. Bill. How was Nestor today? Um, how was Nestor? Yeah, the stuff, you know, I thought, you know, his fastball profile was all right. Um, he wasn't getting the swing and miss that he's been getting , um, obviously they had a really good day offensively and , and, you know, they were putting the ball in play pretty well against him. He had some tough breaks, a couple soft contacts, that ball that skipped through the whole, um, you know, win hits the ball off the end of the bat that bounces around. So, you know, you, it didn't really bounce his way, obviously , but maybe not quite as sharp with some of the, you know, didn't have the swing and miss that. He's had really the last several , uh, your bullpen didn't have a good day today. Uh What happens tomorrow as you set it up? Yeah, I mean, we're, we're fine going in tomorrow. We just, you know, we gotta, we gotta get the outs, you know, we got, you know, battle back in, you know, you know, cousins have been great, obviously. Um, you know, a little unfortunate there with, he probably gets a double play ball before he comes out. It hits off his leg and kind of kicks around that's probably going to be a double play ball. Um, you know, tommy struggled a little bit. Um And, and we, you know, the difference is we just couldn't close out that inning. Um, you know, I think we're still tied with two outs and they got all five of those runs. So one of those games, um, you know, Tommy's been so good cousins have been so good. Um So, you know, no issue going right back to those guys and, and knowing what, how, how important they've been to our bullpen and, and our success at the back end, aaron, what's next for Nestor since he and Schmidt are coming back? Do you expect him to make his next start? Dan, how did rizzo look to you? I thought Rizz looked good. I really like to play on the bunt, obviously getting the lead runner there very much under control but not sped up, you know, so that was good to see. I thought the game moved slow for him really good, good at bat. Uh off the lefty in the middle of the game there to, to set us up in the inning, we tied it. Um, you know, obviously going the other way with the double, um even his last at bat where he punched, you know, off a really tough lefty too. I felt like felt like it was a good competitive at bat. So, um I thought overall good day for him and you guys have lost four or five overall. Is there any anything that you want to shore up here? You know, going forward? I mean, look like, you know, today we didn't get out, you know, I mean, from two guys that have been terrific that they put the big in on them. Like that's, that's part of the game. It happens, um, wasn't from those guys being unprepared or, or, you know, it's the other side had a really good day offensively against us today. So, um, you know, we know how important these games are. Certainly. And, um, you know, another opportunity here to, to, to win a series that we weren't able to finish. And that, that sucks. But it's, it's onward, we got, we got, you know, Texas team that's, that's playing well. You know, we knew Saint Louis coming in was playing well. Texas is playing well. We go to Chicago, they're playing really well right now. So, um, you know, we gotta, we gotta play our best, we gotta put our best foot forward to win these games and, and hopefully we start that tomorrow night. Uh Clap and MEREDITH Aaron, I know we talked about this before the game, but with he and Schmidt coming back, what are your thoughts on, on the rotation? How they all fit? They haven't pitched yet. So, I mean, Clark's pitching tomorrow in a rehab. So we'll see, we'll see, we'll have, you know, we'll have to make, if we have to make a decision at some point in seven days, you know, Then we'll do that. But, um, you know, right now we're getting those guys ready to come back and start MEREDITH Peter last one. Just, uh what, what if anything have you heard about heels outing today? Not that I heard he threw a lot of pitches in the first inning. But that, that's all I got.
