EVERTON U21s SCORE FIVE! FULL MATCH REPLAY AS ANDRE GOMES RETURNS

man he right right good good good evening everybody and welcome to a very wet a very windy and a rather cold Finch Farm the Everton training complex here in hailwood it's Premier League 2 action snods Everton against Southampton and uh well you do like a little bit of moisture on the pitch you said it gives it a little bit of zip but probably not this much like the cold don't like the wind I don't mind the rain but uh he's got all three elements that uh that you said does but uh it'll make it an interesting game it's h a long way for Southampton to travel up on a Monday night as well so uh yeah I'm hoping our boys are well up for this game it'll be difficult here won't it because it's quite open at Finch Farm isn't it yeah it is and it can spoil a game as well the wind up here but uh yeah the surface as you can see is in fantastic condition uh I just hope the I just hope the elements of the weather don't spoil don't spoil AB well I was at the Monaco game in the Premier League International Cup last week and it was a terrific win for the boys 4-2 just a few points on the board in the league now don't we yeah that's what they do and uh I know Southampton are just slightly in front of us but yeah for uh for the morale and for the confidence they need to get a few wins in the league and and start climbing the league up uh up the table sorry you you've been on both sides of the fence here with regards to reserve team football in your day as a youngster coming through and also as a senior professional we've got Andre Gomez in the side tonight what will that do for the young boys do you know what it it be it's great that Andre is playing uh because that I know there'll be some professionals that say they did even say no I'm not playing uh but I think it's great he's coming back from an injury um and I think it's great that the young Lads will see Andre Gomez in the team know what a player he has been uh not only for for our club uh but throughout his career and I'm sure he'll play it the right way I'm sure he'll talk the young guys through it as well so yeah I used to look forward playing with experienced players in in the reserve League you got impressed them I suppose don't you yeah of course you do and uh that's what the the young Lads will be saying and they'll uh they'll be telling him to hold the ball turn and stuff like that so yeah it's great it's uh it's experience for the young Lads as well nice to see J Virginia getting the game as well yeah he need important that is yeah very very important uh Jordan pford is obviously the number one but if anything happens to uh Jordan you don't want to come in cold you need to be playing games and it's good that J's playing this evening well as I mentioned the under 21s had a terrific confidence booting 4-2 Victory against Monaco at Walton Hall Park last week here's the pick of the action [Music] a oh oh [Music] oh [Music] a [Music] [Applause] what a great win that was and you know what it was a really good game of football ball as well I thoroughly enjoyed it let's hope that Paul Tate boys can take that form into tonight's Premier League 2 game and I caught up with Paul just a few moments ago Paul it's certainly not going to be on for the farted tonight is it no it's a bit um blustery and wet out there but uh good good oldfashioned football weather do you have to change your tactics or your approach of the game when it's like that cuz it's quite open isn't it here a finch far yeah no no we don't unless this the wind's really strong but I I think we'll get away with it tonight um just try and concentrate on uh the principles that will been trying to do all season um in and out of possession and in transition so that won't change two wins in the last two games against Continental opposition the win against Monaco in particular was a cracker wasn't it yeah I think the boys would perform really well in the international cup um you know on the B like I think there four wins on the bounce now so you can see a little bit more confidence in that play as well um which is great um the international clubs a really good experience playing against the the teams that come over from abroad to players and but tonight's a different on it's back to the league um you know we haven't played in the league for a while now so we're looking to to get a good result and a good performance first and then hopefully a good result what type of opponent you expecting Southampton to be yeah we played them last season were very good but good individuals um good team good Academy always produced players have Southampton so yeah it's going to be a tough game we were just speaking off camera there about the goals that you've lost this season in the other 21 Squad you you've lost Tom KH and Stanley Mills Isaac price Charlie whiter that's 45 goals they contributed last season yeah um that's you know that's under 21s uh football and and managing the players at this level you you have to know that they're going to either go out on loan go in the first team hopefully or go into somebody else's first team um and then it's for the other boys to step up then the boys underneath them on 18 players um some of the first year Pros um so yeah it's it's we we need goals from all areas really um it's a collective isn't it yeah we're asking the Midfield players to get forward more you know um sha mck chip in with goals you got two the the other night um Jensen we're trying to get him Y at the goal cuz Jensen could score a goal so it's a little bit more responsibility for the Midfield players as well as um you know likes a Frankie and dobs Sh mall is playing well isn't he he is he's had a nightmare injuries Daren to be fair um been really difficult time for him but hopefully touch what he tears fit Eddie Jones is in the side tonight the viewers have enjoyed watching the 21 games but might not know a lot about Eddie yeah Eddie's com from our system he's been here a long time um and again unfortunately he's he's one who's had a lot of injuries and again we just managed to get him fit and we hope we might get him some minutes tonight some of these boys who are just making their way into the 21 Squad you've known them for years haven't you how much pleasure did you get from seeing them come through all the way like that fantastic um you know it's the ultimate when they get into the first team but it's it's really satisfying to see them go on and play you know like like Tom kannon going now and you know forging a career at Leicester and and then the lads out on loan you know Stan Mills doing well at so yeah it's great it's great for the whole Academy when um the players progressed to First Team the punters will know about Andre Gomez what's it been like this week yeah great we we had one training session with him yesterday he was excellent and obviously a very experienced player top player uh we're happy to have him and hopefully it be a really good um influence particularly on our young Midfield players you've had a couple of first teams involved recently it's great for the young boys that isn't it absolutely I think it's terrific when they drop down and play and they set the standards and yeah know in every shape and form on and off the pitch and we've had some great examples come down and help us and then wondering if the rain was going to stop it's not no I don't think it's I think it's in for all evening does I really do but as I said the surface is good it to be uh a good competitive game this evening long long way to come isn't it for a premier league two gam as you and I speak about it regularly when we're doing commentary there's the EV side we just break off we'll come back to that subject shortly he's got a little bit more experience to play with now Paul T he didn't have at the start of the season but your Ryan Ashley's and your ja virginas and and even Andre Gomez today Shaw malles has been in the round that Lewis doin's played in the Premier League yeah they've got they've got loads of games now experien them kind of players that you mentioned have been in and around it for the last two or three seasons so yeah makes a difference doesn't it of course it does yeah it really does and then you get some youngsters coming up from the under 18s as well and uh yeah when you're playing with players that have played 50 60 60 games at under 21 level they bring them youngsters along K John there as well back to full fness good yeah I was just going to say that that was good to see Kyle John back Roman Dixon's caught by a couple of times this season he's one of the quickest players I've ever seen he's quick he's he's direct as well uh he's one of them Defenders you don't want to come up against or you don't want him to go keep going on overlapped if you're playing against yeah they're all teenagers in the Southampton under 21 side it was the number nine those kns wow I'll let you pronounce that one D I've just been speak to the Southampton one of the South back room staff and he asked for a pronunciation he didn't know no I said well do me a favor take him off after 5 minutes uh one of the scouts upstairs has recommended number 10 Tyler dling yeah I've heard I've heard good things about him uh yeah a couple of Scouts up there with saying he's a decent player so he's one we'll have to keep an eye on this evening nice to see Eddie Jones back on the bench he's had no look whatsoever with injuries he'll be a name that the evertonians won't know a great deal about uh he's been in and around it for a couple of Seasons but uh he's missed an awful lot of football through injury Hal chanata served his suspension Isaac Heath and Jacob Bowman Clark also on the bench alongside the substitute goalkeeper Jack Barett we needly ready to go just waiting for the arrival of the teams and there you go that tells you just how much rain has been falling here at Finch Farm it looks like fish pond wow that's not that's not the pitch I ha to have thankfully might be a few mistakes this evening on this surface yeah let's hope uh they're not in not with with the boys in blue here they come cold night for the players it won't be as cold as us now put it that way I'd rather be playing sat here Tedd I'm looking forward to seeing again tonight Shaw mallister has been he's been an excellent yeah he has he's he's another one not's no no he's he's grown in confidence as well he's playing really well and uh yeah he certainly puts himself about he's a j top scorer as well with three alongside Francis sarono and scoring goals has been a little bit of an issue for the 21s at times this season 4-2 win against Monaco was uh much needed and it was the first time since August that the 21s have scored more than one goal in a game but as I mentioned to Paul T it's not when you losing Tom Cannon when you losing Stanley Mills who's on loan Oxford United when you losing Isaac price who's left the football Club Charlie Whit has had injuries those four between have scored 45 goals there is a lot of goals in them uh four that you've just mentioned as and he does he takes a lot away from your team that you actually put out K just done the J J remembers to take that T from round his neck he's hoping for a quiet evening I think with the tow around his around his neck let you say not he he your subtitute goalkeeper needs games yeah rightly so he does he you just can't even out for your players you just can't keep training and training you got to have a a match game at the end of the week or and it's same with Jo he he he needs to play games like this it must have been must have been horrendous to be number two to Neville sn't it you no chance I know when he got an injury uh Bobby Ms came in and did a reasonable job but yeah other than that you're not getting you're not getting nowhere near Neville will you no 250 odd consecutive games he once played nice is you can't you can't sometimes you can say referee must have seen this or must have seen he was going to blow and then just we play on and then he did blow yeah City lose the league by a point get a many teams win there we a little bit disappointed in the FA Cup draw yeah when you consider that Maiden head United still in there but that's not in the last 10 seasons we've had six Premier League teams in the third round you were saying that that on the way back from uh from Nottingham and yeah draw we're hoping we could have got a slightly easier one but we've been there this season on one there yeah half possession camon BR took a chance then and Lewis do not only read it but he intercepted it as well Le do there's Gomez the best of balls from Andre Gomez strange pass selection yeah be leis do in the scorer snots yeah great ball played out to him plenty Pace on his first touch is good and he's C inside instead of going outside on his left foot he's come inside as we see here just these thoughts there I'm going to I'm going to be positive I'm going to run in there it's a good strike Defenders laid laid off him and he he had no option but to shoot but it's a great finish start this time Shan mallister is the offender and it's a free kick for the six that's a little bit frustrating that Sean's got him he he's got him under pressure the lad's going to make a decision do I play hard to play do I turn but he's made it easy for him uh Shan there by by giving the foul away kick see yeah straight to M player Shaw mallister takes them on the wide goes for goal from the angle was a terrific strike it was a very good save as well from Josh Jeff what a good strike I thought the angle will complete against a tremendous effort from where he was nice turn by Gomez lays it off Dixon goes to ground oh I tell you what he's done brilliant he's done brilliant cuz he's got a tow into to it the lad come inside him and he he got him to ground and then how quickly he recovered to fullback Kyle JN leads the charge goes himself gets a nudge and that is penalty kick for Everton done well did it all himself won the ball put the defender Under Pressure nip the ball off him gone into the box and the referees had no choice from where we are we're we're quite a way away but yeah we just see him intercept it there then he thought what I'm going to run in there yeah he just clipp the back of his ankles and uh he's a certain penalty yeah give little nudge as well just to make doubly sure he goes down Kyle John gets himself into the penalty area wins the penalty now Francis soer comfortable good penalty confident sent the keeper the wrong way I like to see the center FS taking penalties yeah rightly so and I'm sure I'm sure he's wanting to take the penalty as well but he yeah he stred up to that no problem plenty of confidence sent the keeper the wrong way two n up here we go good angle I think the performance so far showing that we're comfortably in front as well do I know know it's 2- but uh yeah we're uh we're well on top Everton 2 Southampton [Music] nil Z the man who got his pocket picked by Kyle J this time he lumps It Forward good header from Ryan asley I think the pressure has been very good I think the the strikers and the wi players are putting their back four Under Pressure the midfielders squeezing on tight as well not allow balls played into Midfield and the Defenders are on the side of their Striker so if anything does get played up they can they can get in front [Music] there cble hold to time back to J Virginia Dixon Callister Kyle John is quick but he's not that quick no going on the first 25 minutes I think J Virginia could have played in that towel [Laughter] d y he's been a virtual spectator Dixon again bounces back up when whatsoever I think well we mentioned before that the 42 win against Monaco was the first time since August that the 21s have scored more than a goal in the game they've uh they've just done it again but just as they're getting ahead of steam up just as they're getting some confidence the squad may be decimated by lone moves which is always a shame at this time of year but it's what the 21s is all about say yeah it is um the boys have got to have the opportunity to go out and play he just gives some of the under 18 Lads a chance then to uh to show what they're all about a good first down pass picked up by Tyler dling they do look a little bit uncertain of themselves don't they at the back the uh they don't look confident at all do they well spins back into play not going to get there you your flask of B yes no that's at half time you're not getting any got two cups one for half time one for full time you're not getting any after the B the sweets for Nottingham D back to dibling Bo again no way through brag good shape from Everton yeah they are Midfield of protecting the back four as well all keeping with the runners ding not matches him stri for stride and again salans have to Premier League Cup Southampton were not in Premier League 2 last season we beat them 3-2 down at Southampton and they beat 2-1 at sou [Music] for br to Davis Abu Jo s from Arsenal in the summer again they have to go back to go [Music] forward just no way through is it sh and pressure has been very good the boys are working really hard even though to T them up not allowing sou up to any time on Bo possession from Southampton but they're just unable to do anything with it every time they triy to break for a Roy blue jersey in the way as Gomez just manages to keep the ball the game down at Southampton that we played last season was quite farle it was in January the pitch was frozen the training ground and we had to play the game on the first team training picked but we had to wait until the first team had had their training session so the players were changed and ready to go out and has to sit back in the dressing room for another two hours [Music] Virginia swappy from Ryan there ball he knows it as well they had more of the balls since second go haven't they yeah they have but as I said they've not really tested our ja in uh in our goal they no not really got beyond our back four Davis again goes with the switch really good ball offside joshl towards Robinson inside the penalty area does get inside the penalty area but then he runs into Eli Campbell only stops the cross he also fashion a clearance for Everton get good cover from Eli then for his defensive P he just got the wrong side of Ryan Ashley got him behind him but uh Elijah Campbell read the situation and did well to protect his teammate dlink rabu again there a blue jersey there this time it's Andre Gomez go kick sure about that one I don't think the Southampton players are as well no certainly thought bit the hydraulic Tower it's absolutely fabulous and and structurally now it's as safe as houses isn't it yeah we've had to do a lot of remedial repairs and there was a lot of original make safe works that we had to do to obviously get the building to a safe spot to actually start works but yeah now we've got on with all the different structures so we did like I said we did a lot of repointing Works uh put the new roof structures on um and done a lot of structural works so actually make the building safe in the first place you've had to be so wary from the start of the heritage of the building haven't you you've had to be very very careful as suppose to stick to the original plan yeah so obviously originally at the start there was a lot of plans put together that all had to get signed off by Liverpool city council uh CBR and heritage project management themselves so we've had close relationship all the way throughout inspections throughout the process to make sure they were happy we've had to have samples and we had uh listed building conditions that we've had to sign off and go through on the process as well just to make sure everyone was happy with what we're doing to the grade two listed structure what are listed building conditions um so some of the examples um it just includes a lot of the time about samples or showing them drawings just so they can keep in touch with what's going on in the building so like one for the windows and doors once all the drawings were done at a stage five design obviously stage 4 One got signed off from like the the actual design from the architect and then once it was developed into a stage five I submitted that and then we get like a conditioned discharge but it's just keep them in the loop so so for them they wanted like the frames to be as thin as possible and to make sure it's fitted into the rebate of the window so it's just make sure they're happy and we can sign it up on that basis it's been a very specific project hasn't it so when you've taken bricks away to strengthen it have you got to keep those bricks and then put them back um yeah we some areas so like the little office plot which you can see in the background over there the little building on the roof um like I say that was very unstable at the start so that got knocked down to sill level because of how out of place it was just over time due to like you know the weathering um so that get knocked down but all them got salvaged and the rebuild of it has actually been done with the existing brick work to keep it exactly the same but then again that was a listed building condition in terms of the brick work that we've had to use to do all the repointing works um that all to be signed off for a specific type of brick so at least it could match in as much as possible to the original brick work that was there it's going to be a unique football stadium feature so structurally it's sound you can see there the roof looks like it's all completed on both sides the windows are in so what happens next yeah so we've got ongoing works with the windows last bits of glazing with the louvers and it's just like kind of a lot of the final touches so after the works have been done on top there's just a few bits of flashing details to do and then yeah just give it one last kind of that clean over and hand it over have you enjoyed seeing this come together oh yeah definitely um for myself being like one of my first major projects as well it's definitely been very very interesting times has been hard at times obviously just with it been the nature of the building itself but yeah definitely been very interesting I don't think you can you can beat it to be honest there's history in every single brick this area of Liverpool was really peppered during the war it really was please tell me that that air rate siren is staying exactly where it is yes it's staying where it is now yeah so when we first came it was on a bracket the bracket was obviously quite loose so it had to be taken off and then we've replicated that bracket and refitted it onto the building it's had a special coating so it can be stayed on that building now
