long last the Brandon auk Saga has come to a likely End San Francisco wi out will remain that for the next 5 years following a 4-year $120 million extension 76 of that coming in guarantees it was a 38 day hold in if you will took some twists and turns but in the end auk becomes the sixth $30 million per wide out in the game CBS Sports NFL analyst Ryan Wilson in with his thoughts Ryan this was a long time coming it certainly seemed like he'd be playing in a different uniform this year at multiple different junctures but didn't like what those places looked like in the end how was this the reconciliation between auk and this front office seemingly getting what he want was it the guaranteed number that maybe was the win for San Francisco I'm at a loss Joe I'm glad the deal got done for the 49ers for brand yook but uh we heard reports maybe earlier this summer a month or so ago that uh the 49ers just under 30 million maybe 2728 which is sort of the jayen Wadd rain range and then we heard the Patriots one of the teams you talked about they were interested in acquiring brok when he became available in the trade market we're offering in the 32 neighborhood which is AJ Brown money and then they meet somewhere in the middle and it just wonders I wonder how long has this been on the table and why did it take so long to sign and part of me thinks BR nuk uh had the had the hold in quote unquote he just didn't want to practice now that's just me speculating uh I I know that John Lynch the GM and Kyle Shanahan the head coach seemed frustrated in recent days with the inability to get auk signed but I think we got down to the 11th hour and I don't know if it was a 76 million guaranteed that push him over the edge or the 30 million is the number that the 49ers came up from in recent recent days or maybe weeks uh but he's not the highest paid he's not the second third or fourth highest paid he's number five as you noted that's right about where he should slot in just below Justin Jefferson and uh what we saw uh CD lamb get the other day but it's curious the good news is he's there now and they have all their weapons and the other looming issue uh before the Brock py looming issue arises is getting left tackle Trent Williams under contract but right now uh something to feel good about and BR bruk is is back in the wide receiver room and apparently he's going to work out so that's great give thanks for that extra day it's a Monday nighter for San Francisco here in week one we'll see if how you can get up to speed we know he knows the offense but game speed is a little different especially when you have been practicing all summer long this does underline what's going to happen in the years to come for San Francisco though as well you got a $30 million wide out you got young all Pros all over the field you got Trent Williams still not in practice what does this mean for Trent and also the roster Construction in the years to come with so much talent ready to come back for a bite at the Apple well as recently as three hours ago before brand auk signed they had salary cap space to get both Trent Williams and bruk the deals that they presumably won are close to it one down one to go so there's room to maneuver and typically when you sign these deals the first year the cap number goes down and then you push push the money off into the future uh but I think and I've been saying this for a couple days now because we've been talking a lot about auk and Trent Williams Trent Williams is the most important person in that offense and that includes the quarterback and Christian mcaffrey and George KD and Debo Samuel and brand iuk you can Shuffle those guys and pull their names out of a hat Trent Williams has to be number one uh we saw last year when Trent Williams was out for a few games Christian McCaffrey's productivity suffered running the ball so Kyle janahan is well aware of what this means as is John John Lynch and it strikes me that Trent Williams isn't one to mess around Joe so if he says he's not coming to work don't count him showing up holding in or doing he's going to be on his couch until he gets the number he wants so they have the money to do it that they're going to have to get that done because this Superbowl window to your point is eventually going to close two three four years from now you can't keep everyone and they do have to get Brock pie under contract pretty soon here uh a year from now or so uh so I think Trent Williams is now the the the biggest issue they have to resolve they feel great about auk but I if you ask me to give you my honest opinion Trent Williams is the most important person that they have to get under contract and they need him out there week one no doubt about it yeah despite the a long-standing constant there on the left side we'll see if they can get Williams done in time for week one meantime the last remaining QB question got an answer on Thursday the New England Patriots plan to roll out veteran jacobe brassette week one against the Bengals that means the third overall pick in Drake May will begin his season as a professional on the clipboard first year head coach dad Mayo said prior what's best for the team today may not be what's best for the team down the road certainly leaving that door open for May to earn the job in the not too distant the future Ryan this appeared to be the direction things were heading in New England not because of Any inefficiencies out of Drake May and camper in the preseason but broader issues here on this roster you assess the will pop so I I think that the plan going into the preseason was toob brassette and then to your point Joe Drake May caught fire the preseason he looked pretty good and I I was concerned that Gerard Mayo was going to waver he didn't new offive coordinator Alex Manel has a history with jacobe veret going back to Cleveland it sounded like he felt jacobe knew this offense better a few weeks ago I don't think that's changed the athleticism the arm strength the leadership uh we see all those things from from Drake may but he's also 21 years old and there's a lot left to learn and it's hard to learn those lessons when you're on your back 50 60 70 times a year because you're taking sack after sack after sack so I think this is the best long-term and short-term interest for Drake may this team ain't winning 10 games Joe they're probably going to win five or six and if that's the case let Drake May learn by watching maybe you play him after Thanksgiving once the season has been decided playoff wise but until then there's absolutely no rush to get him out there all right so all 32 have their qb1 for week one we got a new deal for auk the chase hold in continues but we do have more receiver news as well on this day Kansas City's Rashi rice will not be placed on the commissioner's exempt list for week one rice facing multiple felony charges for his role in a six-car crash this off season he was felony speeding uh being one of those charges the league not likely to hand down discipline before the courts do and that date has yet to be set Ryan I know we've seen Mahomes succeed in different iterations of this passing attack but just how integral is Rice's contribution this season this is a huge development Joe because we know that the Chiefs had sort of been scrambling this off season to fill some of the wide receiver holes Tyreek Hill left a few years ago of course and they still were able to win a Super Bowl in large part because of what Rashid rice did as a rookie he got off to a slow start but by the time it was all said and done he was second receptions among all rookies behind some guy named puukaa second in receiving yards third in touchdowns and he was one of the best Yak receivers yard after the catch receivers in the NFL so all those things taken together you see the yak right here uh there was a huge void about to be on this uh in this wide receiver's room had Rashid rice gotten suspended we know uh that Mars Brown you see his name there's going to be out for a few weeks with a shoulder injury Xavier Worthy's a rookie burner but he's only about 165 lbs he can run 4 tws and judu Smith Sher is a veteran who's uh probably wide receiver four best case uh as we sit here we know about Travis Kelce of course but I think getting Rashid rice is a huge development for Patrick Mahomes a huge safety blanket to go along with his other safety blanket in Travis Kelce and don't forget that their week one match up against the Ravens uh Mike McDonald is now the the their defensive coordinator is now the head coach in Seattle so they're trying to figure some things out defensively without him and he was a a great DC in those two years there and that's why he got a head coaching job as a young a young coach but I think Rashid rice is going to give them all sorts of problems and as long as he's on the field and it's not suspended that's great news for that offense Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes started with a misstep a season ago against Detroit no doubt a couple in route to their second consecutive Super Bowl as the looking at us as their homecoming game all of these different criticisms that we faced as a team that no one expected anything from but now that you are one of the best teams you aren't hunting you're the hunted how do you find that balance between oh we're still we're still pissed off we still want to go out there and prove ourselves but also we're a pretty damn good team you know what I do like about this offseason is they made some decisions over the last couple of years to lock in some key guys of course they want to make sure that golford is their quarterback he's been doing his thing since he's been traded and let's keep it real he got traded for Stafford Stafford went to the Rams W himself for Super Bowl people didn't think that jarro g was going to dig himself up out of the Grave they were like oh he's going to Detroit that's the graveyard for the rest of his career he'll probably retire an oblivious quarterback no no no on the contrary he's been balling so they locked him in pan Su Aman R Brown that's a sign to your squad when you're giving your best players deals and extending them and saying we're going to lock in some key figures I think they're playing for right now and by right now I mean win a Super Bowl right now but it's going to be tough though because regardless of what you say about that division there are some Superstars that we're familiar with and some upand cominging superstars in the NFC North so it isn't going to be some easy road to the Super Bowl for the Lions you know they say dogs look like their owners sometimes I got to think that teams look like their coaches and that's a team a fact that looks like their coach they have bought in and they believe and they're going to be a tough out any week under Dan Campbell let's let's talk about the north because it's an even taller task in their own backyard than it was a year ago coming of a age across much of that division the Packers were essentially 30 minutes from meeting the lions in that title game a year ago a growing belief in Chicago for my Bears I got to say it it's in the first overall and everything around him and then producer riches Vikings well I guess we don't have to go there right now but what do you see being the Discerning factor between all that talent in the north this year you know shout out to producer Rich one of the best in the business we go way way way back um we've always shared that connection with my stint with the Vikings you know let let's start there though you know that Justin Jeff is an absolute monster he has an opportunity to go for the Triple Crown we're talking catches yards and touchdowns but for me it's not about his talents about who's throwing the ball Kurt Cousins were looking for him early and often every single game so it's G to be a little different Dynamic him having a new QB throwing him the Rock and then moving on to Jordan love and the Packers you know I've been hearing a lot of Buzz about Jordan love being a potential MVP candidate and I I'm not going to lie to you I'm not there yet I do feel like he's easily a QB that can work his way into to the top 10 conversation but saying he's going to be MVP caliber he's going to have to start the season off hot and then continue that through 17 weeks now the Bears this might be the most thrilling and exciting team in all of football you know what we saw on the pre preseason even though it was like that that Costco sample size of Caleb Williams it still was enough to get us excited everybody was like oh no I don't need another sample no no give me the whole damn box yeah yeah I'm sold on that what we saw in college is what we saw a little bit and what we've seen in practice listen my son both my sons now go to Nevada Reno two years ago so my my oldest Nate's freshman year they went to USC I was able to see it in real time and I'm sitting there on the sideline I'm like all right let me see let me see what this Caleb Williams dude is all about and man he got the ball in a shotgun full pressure he's doing what you're seeing right now moving out to the left throwing across his body absolute dime he did that Time After Time again in this game and I left thinking to myself he's for real now you're seeing it in the NFL you know what it reminds me of it reminds me of a young Russell Wilson you remember when Russell Wilson was magical in the pocket and dare I say Caleb WIS might be slightly more athletic I believe a little bit taller so he might have that that that Russell Wilson esque magic when it comes to extending the pocket when it breaks down because inevitably it will break down this is the NFL so you got guys coming off the edge running 44 4 five 46 he's going to get Pockets that are extremely cramped and collapsing in front of him but when he has that ability to move outside the pocket for a wide receiver let me just break it down for everybody why we all get so excited about quarterbacks that can run and this is why the Chicago Bears fan base is so excited because you have a guy that can not only run but when he leaves a pocket he's not looking to get the first down with his legs that's the last resort he's looking for the wide receiver so imagine me coming out of my route and I'm running a curl route right towards you right towards the camera and I look at the QB and all of a sudden he breaks the pocket he's spinning to the right now I'm going to put my foot in the ground I see him he sees me I'm taking my course back up field that's a sideline pass deep it's hard enough to stop stop a starting wide receiver running one route now imagine if he's running two that's why the the Patrick Mahomes Chiefs offense has been good for so long because what used to be scramble rules that rarely happen in the NFL game is now something that these teams practice with a quarterback like Caleb William don't be surprised that you'll see those broken plays turn into Big Time highlights all season long I'm not going to say l but certainly a compliment in a defense there in Chicago for the rookie quarterback just as a young Russell Wilson had when he came into Seattle you got me go you got me going now talking about some wide receiver to man not not just those bears but when you get to talking tape on wide out stuff I mean as a former D3 slot guy you're speaking my language so let's talk about that let's talk about that wide out economy a little bit in today's because demand has certainly highlighted this offse we saw the most recent one met with Brandon iuk but Supply is no shortage either there's playmakers all over the place having played that position at the highest level what do you look for when you watch wide out play of that caliber and who's a guy maybe you could see playing himself into that upper echelon this year you know I used to be your traditional wide receiver that thought guys slightly bigger than me that were big fast and strong were your prototypes that's because I played with Randy moss and Calvin Johnson but then the more that I looked at the league and how it was changing and evolving those shorter guys that used to play slot running back and even DB are now being wide receiver Playmakers for their teams I mean look at Tyreek Hill so yeah you can go get you a tall long statuesque R wide receiver but when you find a guy like Tyreek Hill who runs a 4-3 maybe even a 42 can climb the ladder and catch the ball with his chest his hands and take hits while running past everybody it has changed the way that offenses look for Playmakers so he's number one on my list right out the gate an interesting guy is also Stefan Diggs what's going to happen with the Houston Texans he's a guy that he loves being targeted and he's been successful over the course of his career because he's had QBs that would Toss The Rock to him a lot throughout the season but it's tough though when you have Nico Collins and tank Dale guys that are legit and they were legit without him I think if they can find some balance where everybody is all in on this offense there's not one man above the squad they can go in and really give defenses fits because you're coming in trying to figure out who you're going to stop and not to mention they got good tight end play a running back play with the quarterback and CJ Stout that can also run and throw the ball so that's an interesting Dynamic and it could shape out to be the best wide receiver core the Houston Texans make sure you mark that down um a couple other guys that stand out Malik neighbors you know what I've seen from him and what I'm hearing out of Camp I mean he's going to be a guy if they can get the ball to him he's just going to open up the Giants offense um and then Xavier worthy a Speedster he might be the fastest guy in the chief's Jersey since Tyreek Hill left and they've been looking for that guy to kind of fill in that place along with the playmakers that they already have and the last dude I'll mention that could just immediately make his name like one of the more recognizable ones when it comes to Playmakers Marvin Harrison Jr I mean you got you got Kyler Murray who is who is motivated like never before he understands the criticism the injuries has really pushed out of the conversation of an elite quarterback he wants to go out there and prove that he's a guy worth his money and possibly another deal down the line and he has a big tall wide receiver that did it on high level in college and now could soon be the number one Target in a team that really needs him to make some plays to take the pressure off of Kyler so those are my list of white outs that I'm keeping ey on hey in this household we pass to set up the run and not vice versa always we always remember that uh we couldn't be more excited for September 8th Nate it's going to be an awesome season and we know you're going to be be at the Forefront of it the team with the NFL today primed to get the stage set every Sunday all season long like any new team with new Personnel there's that jelling period but I see you guys already on social media looking like feeling like family what's got you most excited about the group that you're rolling into this season with you know it's tough man because to keep it real you know I love boom I Love Phil um you know so you you feel for the guys that you started with and those are my ogs my mentors guys that embrac me so I'm doing the same thing for JJ and for Matt Ryan listen JJ is a beast and I'll just tell you straight JJ can do whatever he wants like JJ can be an actor in any movie he can go be a mayor or a governor uh in Texas like this dude has the gravitas to really do whatever he wants and he's deciding to spend some of his Sundays with us so I feel extremely blessed and he's just a he's a dude's dude that is a defensive guy but understands the offens side of the ball and when he gets going as far as like how we watch the games and him get the popping is is if you know what I mean like it makes our show better now Matt Ryan I I gotta I gotta be all the way real with you I didn't know Matt Ryan enough to know what he brings to the table if you know what I'm saying all I knew was this quarterback that played in Atlanta that was part of one of the best offenses cool as hell respected by his teammates but I had no idea that his personality was bigger than like I've spent some dinners some lunches we've did some photo shoes together and I believe the best place for Matt Ryan is the studio this is going to be a reintroduction to the world like never before and he adds so much to our team Matt Ryan is a cool mother shut your mouth I'm telling you listen we've been kicking it and I'm just like BR I'm blown away he's funny he's passionate he got some grit to him and he he loves the game so with that Dynamic of course still with the ogs of Bill coward and James Brown this show is going to be bigger better than ever oh and the backdrop by the way is the star players of the NFL we have the best quarterbacks that we are going to cover this year we're going to see what Harbaugh is going to do down with the Francisco 49ers unfortunately the deal didn't go through as a signed an impressive 4-year $120 million contract to stay in San Francisco what a real shame Michael Lombardi a well-known NFL expert has revealed that this lucrative contract for aak could open the door to another very interesting move for the Steelers according to Lombardi as the season progresses we might see the name Debo samel another 49ers receiver appear on the trade market San Francisco could be forced to cut costs for the 2025 season making Samuel an NFL star available on the market just before the trade deadline imagine what it would mean to have Debo Samuel with the Steelers now let's be realistic Lombardi mentions that an immediate trade is unlikely but as we get closer to week eight things could change for the Steelers to consider this possibility several factors need to align first the team must be in contention mid-season which is possible with a more favorable schedule in the first half moreover if our current receivers like van Jefferson Roman Wilson and Calvin Austin fail to stand out as expected the need to seek a star receiver like Samuel could become urgent but keep in mind this doesn't
