wanted to contribute to that move these hostage negotiations along the Israelis bristled at that saying that they've come to these conversations uh in a serious matter later a Us official uh saying that the president has made clear that he believes Hamas is responsible for the latest hostage deaths but also stress stressing that Israel needs to approach this matter with a sense of urgency now the president convened his National Security team yesterday in the situation room to talk about the next steps that they can take to try to reach some type of an agre agement National Security adviser Jake Sullivan was working the phones with Israeli and Qatari officials yesterday to try to advance these negotiations but it still remains unclear what track what path this will take uh and whether they can get the side both sides to an agreement now in that meeting yesterday was also vice president kamla Harris who so far really has not departed from President Biden when it comes to their policy towards Israel that is something that she stressed in an interview she did with our colleague Dana Bash just last week we are also waiting to hear from President Biden uh directly today he will be uh hosting an event relating to how his agenda has impacted Americans but it could be an opportunity for him to also address questions related to the latest situation in these talks as both the president uh and other officials have stressed that there is some urgency to try to get this deal done the question is what can they do to try to get Israel try to get Hamas into an agreement to push this across the Finish Line all right or let's signs live from the North Lawn thanks so much my panel is back all four of us have covered that building in this Administration where they've dealt with no shortage of intractable issues on National Security Mario have you ever seen something uh that has gone on for this long where there is every day it's there's urgency we're negotiating we're getting in the weeds we're in the granular details and I don't see a path forward here and every six weeks uh President Biden expresses optimism that we're close to a deal and then something happens where we backslide there every six weeks or so we have this segment or this this news cycle where we talk about his frustrations with Benjamin Netanyahu the back and forth between the two men a tur phone call rinse and repeat I mean it's an albatross on Administration it's an albatross on Biden who has pride of himself on being a foreign policy leader here his frustrations again with n Yahoo bubbled over to the surface so far one thing that is interesting is the fact that kamla harrris hasn't quite been punished for this as well by voters right the uncommitted movement during the the primary you saw some protests at the DNC but Mo for the most part none of those protests became unruly again to the point we made about the economy it seems like the voters and the protesters at least are giving her a shot just by her having a little bit of empathy if not having a full departure from Biden's uh Doctrine here it's been one of my biggest questions why why are voters giving her some space on this right well I think that voters wanted a a change they wanted a change in this what was a rematch they didn't want to see Biden and Trump go head-to-head and the fact that Harris gave them that meant that a number of Base voters voters of color or young voters just immediately came back to her because she gave them something that they had been wanting for so long now there are still uncommitted voters that haven't heard what they want to hear from her but they also say that they feel as though she is much more empathetic than they believe Biden has been in terms of palestin and in terms of Gaza now the question is is what Biden said yesterday saying really calling out Netanyahu even though it was very brief does Harris start to do that more and more now she has been stronger when she talks about Gaza than Biden over the last few months but does she start to separate more and more and say that that ultimately it's Netanyahu who's uh who's preventing them from reaching a deal and use harsher language when she talks about how the negotiations are going or not no it's a great point because there is a fascinating Balancing Act uh going on within the Democratic party both obviously the the young voters voters of color who had significant issues with this and polling um but also Jewish voters who are a democratic constituency who you have to try and figure out and I think one of the things that's been interesting is Republicans trying to find a way to continue to elevate this issue including an ad we saw in Michigan where to Mario's point I think there's 133% of Voters in that primary were were uncommitted or non-committed um and we've now seen this watch vice president Harris has chosen a side for right side Harris has made herself clear she stands with Israel and the Jewish people she has again and again and supporters of free Palestine they hate her with this K lair's gets it we can trust She'll always support Israel now those are digital ads it's not a big TV buy it's a GOP linked group but clearly trying to start some stuff here yeah they're trying to because even though much of the base has come you know come home to the Democratic party and KLA Harris the issue is when we talk about how tight this race is they have to be afraid that there could be enough people who are frustrated on the Israel issue on in places like Michigan who are like they don't feel like enough has been done um to counter what they believe are harmful actions by Israel and Gaza who will just stay home who may not vote and will that be enough could that be enough to put Trump over the top so there has to be a concern about that now of course in Pennsylvania you may have the opposite concern right and so I think that is why you may see these sorts of ads from the Republicans trying to poke a little bit because all they're trying to do is get at those margins they don't need everybody to stay home they just need a few and they could make a big difference it's such a good point because people frame it as I think the vice president did at one point to with her response to protesters during debate where it's a binary Choice it's it's Harris or Trump no there's a third option here which is stay home and I think the Harris campaign has to be cognizant of that right yeah no absolutely and saa's point I mean the the Democrats when I speak with them they're worried about this last mile these last few yards and getting these uncommitted voters who are largely uneducated who don't tune in to to the political cycle who may be impulsive they're worried about those people being able to turn those folks out so anything to Aisha's Point anything to dissuade them he who hesitates is loss and so if you get them just a waiver just a little bit there you go Lor you were on the floor throughout the convention in Chicago were you surprised um there just wasn't a lot I I I wasn't sure what to expect given how much it change it was so fluid but were you surprised by the fact there wasn't a huge uh kind of issue on this issue I was I I mean they did it all in a very organized strategic way in terms of the the uncommitted delegates you know they they had some press conferences alongside of the DNC there weren't really any major outbursts on the floor of the convention there were a few ones during Biden's speech uh a small one during Obama speech when he thanked Biden you know people calling for a free Palestine but they were all very small the overwhelming feeling on the floor was of unity and some of the de reolution I believe in hope I believe in believe can I be like you someday you can be anything you want to be you know how to get you fired up here's Johnny [Music] [Applause] in an exclusive new interview Jimmy McCain the youngest son of late Senator John McCain is slamming former president Donald Trump for holding a campaign event at Arlington National Cemetery last week calling it a violation to use the National Shrine as he did joining me now with much more on her exclusive reporting in CNN National Security correspondent Natasha bertran Natasha um I this is fascinating we have not heard uh from Jimmy McCain really at all on these types of issues what did he tell you yeah Phil and look the fact that he's speaking out right now he really doesn't take lightly right because he never has spoken publicly about Donald Trump before but he has decided to now because of what he saw last week at Arlington National Cemetery which he believes is a violation of the men and women that are B buried there if you'll recall of course Trump did visit the cemetery last week at the invitation he says of these gold star families who lost their family members uh during the abig gate bombing in in 2020 in Afghanistan and he posed in front of Graves and he you know put a thumbs up and he was smiling and Jimmy McCain who had actually just returned from a seven-month deployment to the Middle East to a base where three US service members had been killed just weeks before he arrived there he really saw that as deeply inappropriate and deeply insulting to the people that are buried in that Cemetery because they didn't have a choice he says of whether to be part of this political campaign this political backdrop so just to give you a sense of what he told me he said quote it just blows me away these men and women that are laying in the ground there they have no choice of whether to be a backdrop for this political campaign and he also got into the a bit of the psychology behind why he believes Donald Trump repeatedly tends to criticize service members particularly his father of course as we've seen in recent years and he said you know quote many of these men and women who served their country chose to do something greater than themselves they woke up one morning they signed on the dotted line put their right hand up and they chose to serve their country and that's an experience that Donald Trump has not had and he said I think that might be something that he thinks about a lot so essentially saying he thinks that Donald Trump is insecure about the fact that he uh has not served the military so his decision to speak out sparked by that moment but he's been in the midst of a political Evolution which he described to you right yeah and this is really interesting because you know as far as we know he is the first member of the McCain family to actually publicly break with the Republican Party itself yes other members of his family including his mother uh broken with Trump himself publicly including his sister Megan but he says that he is now going to be voting for KLA Harris in November he has changed his registration to Democrat which is a really significant move of course for someone who is the son of such a prominent uh you know GOP Senator he was a GOP political candidate so this is a big dramatic move uh for Jimmy McCain and and I should note you know it remains to be seen how the rest of his family is going to react to this because his sister Megan McCain she has indicated that she is not going to endorse KLA Harris and she said quote in a in a tweet last week I am a lifelong generational conservative she says please stop trying to turn me into a progressive it's a fever dream Jimmy McCain now says he's willing to do whatever it takes whatever he can to actually help uh the Harris walls campaign [Music] vice president KLA Harris's campaign kicking off what it calls a reproductive Freedom bus tour today in Trump's home state of Florida now the bus tour will make up make at least 50 stops across the Battleground states to tie former president Trump to the overturning of Row versus way and while Florida definitely not likely to be a swing state in November Democrats are hoping the state's ballot measure to overturn the state's six we abortion ban will help Democrats up and down the ballot so how will Republicans in the Trump campaign counter that effort joining me now to discuss as Florida Congressman Byron Donalds Congressman always appreciate your time there's where Democrats are on this which I think is part of the reason why you've seen the former president have a gut instinct of being cautious on this issue I think he's been reported to have said uh this was a problem in the 2022 midterm elections for Republicans there's also where anti-abortion advocates are on this which to some degree you've heard them over the course of the last several days be very frustrated uh with where the former president is wish he would sound more like as one told me his first term version of Donald Trump what do you say to those reliably Republican voters who are concerned on this issue uh I would tell those voters in the State of Florida and around the country that President Trump's been very clear uh when it comes to abortion specifically to Florida uh he thinks that the six we ban is not enough weeks uh but at the same time the ballot initiative is far too radical for the State of Florida and so every voter in our states having to make that decision he's decided to vote no just like I have and so many other Floridians but I think it's important for voters in swing states to understand that the ballot initiative in Florida has no bearing on the cost of food in Pennsylvania Wisconsin and Michigan or anywhere else the fault lies with your cost of food the cost of goods the wide openen border terrible foreign policy that f at the feet of KLA Harrison and Joe Biden and those are the issues that are actually going to impact this presidential election Florida voters are going to decide what they're going to do on Amendment four we'll see how that comes out but the presidency and the issues facing the next president of the United States are not going to be the same issues not even close to a ballot initiative in Florida you know it's interesting you mentioned cost there's no question the economy is the number one issue uh prices and inflation uh goes right with that in every swing state pretty much for every American at this point when you look at polling um president the former president endorsed something related to uh Reproductive Rights um that may actually increase costs on some people take a listen under the Trump Administration your government will pay for or your insurance company will be mandated to pay for all costs associated with IVF treatment fertilization for women IVF Tre because we want more babies to put it very [Applause] nicely Congressman it's been interesting having covered uh the healthc care debate over the course of the last decade plus particular with Republicans the idea of a mandate um the idea of both either the federal government paying for something or insurance companies paying for something is that something you could support well obviously it's something that is possible to support depends on the details at the end of the day what Donald Trump and JD Vance have been saying is very clear they want to make sure that IVF is available to every family that needs to take advantage of it because yes having families building families in America is critical to the future of our success as a nation and so I think it's something that members on both sides sides of the a will try to find a way to make sure that we can get there we'll see what the details look like but at the end of the day the core issues face ing the American people are the cost of food and housing Donald Trump has the recipe to make it better for the lives of the American people having a secure Southern border we know what Donald Trump did and we can see the terrible job kamla Harris has done this is the reason why migrants are getting uh welfare benefits in States all across America California now wants to give $150,000 for illegal immigrants to buy homes in California that is the type of policy the value set that Kamala Harris supports it's way outside the mainstream of the American people on immigration policy you know it was interesting being uh on the floor in Milwaukee you spoke at the Republican convention there were signs saying Mass deportation now the the former president has promised the largest deportation operation in history um as part of that it would be a significant shifting of federal resources would cost a significant amount of money would require States and local authorities to partake uh or be incentivized to partake uh the former president has talked about deploying the National Guard as well um between the cost the Personnel shifts and law enforcement is that something you think people should get behind it's not something that I think people should get behind I'm telling you people are already behind it uh you if you pull deportation the American people support it pretty much overwhelmingly at this point massive majorities whether you're black whether you're white whether you're Hispanic because what the American people want is legal immigration they do not want illegal immigration they do not tolerate it illegal immigration is out of the Playbook of the radical left Democrats led by kamla Harris so if you have criminals in our streets like in New York you have to deport them you have to send them home if you have illegals like in Chicago who are taking over uh Schools they're taking over recreation centers they're taking over hotels and they're not getting the vital need the vital Aid that citizens in these cities are looking for is going to illegals you have people in our country who saying enough is enough send them back to their home country there's nothing wrong with that I'm not I'm not disputing the the Overton window of sorts on issues of immigration and deportation has dramatically shifted over the course of the last several years in large part because of what we've seen at the southern border I think my question is more related to there are costs tied to that uh both in terms of Shifting federal law enforcement resources in a major way to actually do that but also economic costs there would be a significant hit based on economic analysis to GDP it doesn't come for free it's not just people get deported at the snap of a finger and I think the scale of what being described hello beautiful people it's a day video going
