semi-final of the dialog schools rugby knout 2024 between is Pana college and St Thomas's College St Thomas's College getting the better of s a college last weekend to book their spot in the semi-finals while is the college they received a buy to qualify for the semifinals yesterday St Peters just managed to get that win overly College 23 points to 20 and who win today will face St Peters next weekend and joining with me on com for the second semifinal Clash is shanaga aming good afternoon sha good afternoon Luxy great to be here interesting conditions under fooot there was rain last afternoon last evening and the ground has mudded up a bit so it'll be interesting to see how it plays how the kicks roll and how the kickers do manage to place their te and get some purchase on their standing foot but this is what we're looking forward to semi-final one St Peters versus Wesley what a close game yesterday Lu see St Peters leading 20 points to eight at one stage but Wesley coming back strongly just not able to go through and qualify for the semi-final they chose to go for the win uh towards the extra uh extra uh time part of the game but they didn't manage to get it and a brave team coming to the end of their season yesterday and of course isipatana will be looking to go one better than they did in the league tournament coming up against St Peters they'll have to beat their fors St Thomases today they have done so already in the league competition but that was a close game and we'll see what St Thomases have learned from that yes the weather forecast for the day maximum temperature of 30 minimum of 25 win speed of 20 it's mostly cloudly but at the moment the weather is really really good for some good rugby but it's the under foot conditions as Shan mentioned which will play a role and as Shan mentioned these these two teams in that League encounter it was 41 points to 27 but at half timee it was 10 all and in in that encounter is just ran away with the game in the last few minutes so it was a very close tussle and St Thomas's as zat ended their super round dream Sy th will be looking forward to in that final dream of isipatana college in The Knockouts well since that last game LX ISAT have had some really intense rugby they've played Royal since then they've played St Peters since then and they didn't have to play a match in the last week so they are fresh perhaps but also some Thomas has have gone on playing opposition that they've managed to be there a little bit more battle hardened and they've got a game under their belt last week a close game also which they managed to close out under pressure so I think the experience of the last three weeks will be the differentiating factor from the toan team that ISAT faced in the league exactly sha after the first round St th's College managed to beat St Joseph's College in the lady J shield and as I mentioned earlier they managed to win the quarterfinals against Saha college so expecting to see a very very close game Shaka Blockbuster rugby in the last 24 hours he were there when shal managed to that 53 M 55 M it was about 55 M on the angle yes it was well pretty much straight out in front a little bit of an angle but uh 54 55 M I think that was just a stunning kick uh luxi I thought when he pointed to the post I thought no it's just too far even for a guy who has been kicking this well but my goodness what a nice way to be proved wrong and what a great way what a poetic way to win the shield back after a decade so uh this encounter hopefully it will be another close Dazzle as we mentioned so many times two very close games and even the premier TR semi-final been down bit close and the college however managed to get the win in that semi-final and book their plays in the finals against mahanama College know that's another encounter we'll be looking forward to next weekend but at the moment it's all about e paana and St Thomas's College St Thomas College I think they're trying to book a place in the final after 15 years isn't it the last time I remember them being in the final was 2009 luxi that was uh under shavin kapu an outstanding rugby team that was in 2009 came up against that unbeaten Royal side of 2009 under Narin daon as well and that uh it's just it's like having Stuart Stuart Shane ju and Stuart McGill in the same side two outstanding teams just one couldn't get in uh because the other one was just a shade better but it was a superb season that 2009 season 4 and Thomas is of course Royal doing a little bit better but uh since then they haven't seen this kind of rugby for a long time on the other hand as CH mentioned earlier they lost the finals last year they managed to win the title in 2022 when they won the double so is another opportunity for them to have a crack at s Peters if they get the win here but let's see whether St thers can change that pattern of viip and St Peters finales in the last two years well that's a long way to go for that 70 minutes of rugby before we start talking about isip and St Peters No Doubt ISAT would have learned a lot from their last defeat in very difficult conditions against St Peters but if it's a sunny day if it's a non-rainy day I should say then that match is going to be very different the result is going to be very different in whose favor it will go we don't know but without Yumi shihar also in that side uh St Peters will be a little bit shaky than they were in the last game in the final I thought they really controlled that game superbly and as the crowd builds up it's nice to see The Knockout rugby has brought the fans back to the grounds in a big way and also syus College talking aboutus College sh was SED off yesterday not quite sure what the update is hopefully he's fine so St thom's College they're taking the field in this semi-final and this is their starting lineup Lena galasa rat and Pereira have been main stairs in the front row for S Thomas's wanasa and wanua in the second rows that's a new combination for them Fernando jaing and karunaratna so Fernando moving to The Blind Side flank ja sing No Dwight in this in the team this time and karuna ratna has been outstanding for them at number eight Vikram Aura hoping to lead the side next year but we'll need to show what he's made of this year to make sure that he wins the coach's confidence bulat sing Yan that is Udan that is comes in at number 10 uh dasas in at number aaas that is in at number 11 on the left wing and Hela and L gadon have been excellent in the centers and one of them will be given that really tough task of having to to Mark the everpresent Shahid zum at number 10 and chamod Pereira and Yan bul sing will be taking a place that he is not unfamiliar to at fullback at number 15 and from St Thomas's College it's misses out today as he was down with denu a few weeks ago and then the backs Shri ABD mad and ABD and from that League decide Shish kalhar misses out because of his knee injury yes so a couple of changes there and they will miss zum in at the third row there luxi because he has been very good in the broken play I think his support play linking the ball Runners with the rest of the backs has been really good this season one of those underrated skills that we don't talk about in Shakib zum the younger brother of course Shahid zum will be the one everyone will be turning to and he will maybe want to take some of the linelight back after Shan alov stole it all for himself yesterday exactly as we know all about Shan ala in the last 24 hours or the last two weeks to be honest coming out of that first league as well as ISAT College they come out so just moments away from the kickoff of the second semi-final of the dialog schools rugby Knockouts 2024 the match officials Hassan theang will be the main referee and his assistants arant and thina chat going do an important game for him as well to try and put the credibility back on the local referees because uh we've had high-profile friendly games with the bradby shield having foreign referees and of course uh we will take some moments to reflect about how those refering decisions went in those games as well and the I'm sure the Sri Lankan referees would have seen them and said look there's something that we can aspire to hear something that we can improve on and try and make sure that they give everyone the product that they've been uh willing to see on their television screens and when they paid money for tickets so one thing Lux to is that this tournament has proved and the league tournament previously has uh proved in both tiers is the fact that these teams are so close and that it's very important important that the referees don't make any kind of uh interference in what the result of the game is going to be because the players uh just so close to each other in every team and as we kick off semi-final number two it's isip from left to right going nice and long trying to pin s Thomas's back in their own half and Udan bulak single is the one who's under pressure immediately but manages to get the ball away just short of the 22 and a will have their first attacking line out and talking about Singa didn't play all the matches in the league so who are this high pressure game as well so he'll be twisted quite a lot in this encounter but to be honest an opportunity to put th is under pressure very early in the game so Thomas is also making a few changes ran Dwight not in the side the thir Colman so they will miss his experience and his defense and Akash Fernando having to move to the third row as a result of that and the younger wua coming into the side interesting to see how he goes he's a bigger boy in the number 19 Jersey so we'll wait and see what kind of uh addition he is to the line out but first K Miis throw in up goes isipatana in the form of Abdul Ahmed who has been excellent and they go straight back to the short side where Miis takes it forward khinda it's not a great pass and Udan bulas Kingler tries to hack it forward for the second time it is bounces kindly for abdulla f but they've lost about 30 m of ground it's not a great pass from khanal just getting his bearings early on zri now with the outside of his boots Bo that there's no one home for S Thomases and puts vuri under a lot of pressure but what a kick what an outstanding kick just manages to find the touch line inside of the corner flag and they'll go to another 5 m line out sh once again sped the Gap went for that little kick and managed to find touch probably wanted to find that Shas but anyway no harm done they'll get an opportunity to attack once again Danga with the shase no fullback at home for St Thomas but Vikram sua did well running that second line of defense as scrum halfs need to do and that time is Wu goes up but it's untiy ball and it's won by setum rajaka so on the side they knew that if they get into that 5 meter Mark they can apply pressure on the stoian line out exactly what they've done and now they've got the ball 5 m out Miis try to rip the ball away from him and aloda makes a tackle on the triy line khena zum what will he do he goes long and it's an easy ball for Abdullah F and very simple rugby easy does it and it's going to be a long afternoon if St Thomases don't get that line out right nice B the college making use of that attacking line out opportunity and getting the job done Shahid Suri with that long cut out pass to Abdula fisa who had no problem whatsoever isad on the board for the first time in this second semifinal what I like about this move luxi is that he looked up he saw the defense he looked to his side and saw that there was nobody out there and has the time and the skills to get the ball out to where it needs to go and that's what I really like about Shahid zum that he used to be a bit of a Flash Player I thought he was very good but I thought he had bit too many back of the hand behind the back passes last year but to see how he has matured from that to a guy who manages to put his teammates into space take GS when they available and to put the pressure kicks over the maturity he has shown in one year is outstanding exactly sh and that's something that I remember you saying quite a lot last year about Shah Suri but this year as you mentioned he has matured quite a lot and as the senior player has done the job to Perfection but the conversion actually goes through so seven points me e b in the leading the first for me inside the first five minutes of the game well the short uprights of the Royal College sports complex coming into play once again but the assistant referees having no problem judging that and zum adds these two extras and seven points to nil S Thomas is finding themselves down on the scoreboard early on oh here's the ear play of the conversion the First amama Bank try off the second semi final scored by abdulla F and Shai Suri converting it buul sing will want to make sure that they stay out of their 22 as much as possible St Thomas's were behind in the league game and did come back so it's well within their wheelhouse here's Zumi again making no mistake with the exit and that's a thumping kick managing to find a good 60 M and even though they've conceded the ball it is a really good game especially after you've just scored to get back into the opponent's half again that's exactly what he want to the coach and as a forward back seven points unil at the moment is B the line out to St Thomas's College can turn things around here and put more pressure on St Thomas's de and this one goes right to the back it's gone to ja sing but the referee will say that there was a crooked throw which there certainly wasat will opt for the scrum so once again inside s th stag isip with an opportunity with the position from this R to mount an attack s is just not getting things right shanaga in the early onset of the game yes they've got to get that line out right they've had a few changes of course rashan Dwight was a main stay in that line out for them jumping at number two or four but now they've got a new man in and Dean senaratna who's now fit after suffering a bad foot injury early on in the season so few new Personnel oh dear oh dear that's something that they're going to have a look at for sure that was uh Vikram arachi who got upended and U referee Wanga doesn't have the option of having a second look at this does he luxi so he will have to play it on what he saw here's the pass from kalindu nice short ball and it looks like it's uh the number 13 that's Udan it's gone way past the horizontal and he's landed on his elbow which is probably what saved him there and uh we are being consistent I would have to say that that should have been a yellow at least getting alive very early in the game but is an opportunity to make that that lead go up to 10 points Shah Suri was successful with the conversion can he add the three points here and S Suri unable to add the three points so it will stay as seven points toil Thomas is getting lucky there not conceding that three points or a yellow card hudan buling has to be really careful it's good to be aggressive in those tackles but you are if you are lifting the player you've got to make sure you're driving them back can't lift their legs past horizontal and can't risk because you don't have control over what part of the player is going to hit the floor whether it's going to be his head his back his arms so here's wamara recovering well from that upended tackle and running the ball into the center of Midfield setum rajap Paka carries strongly here's kalindu nice short ball from Shahid to adya madushan looks just a tad flat and the referee has picked that up forward pass called by the referee so it's going to be a strong in Fair of SS's College SS's need to get need to get inside is the college half they have not been able to do that so far in this encounter here's a re play has a forward pass from Shah to ad madushan ad madushan who has replaced aishka kalhar in this starting 15 for the green machine interesting substitution that is that because of injury Lu we'll talk about that later but here's the STA of s Thomas's this season here's bull single again taking the Gap find some support now on The half needs to make himself available as a ball carrying option now Vikram Asura here's UD ball still available and dragging the defense across the field wasad again here's karar ratna has a bit of a time to wind up but vikari with a nice chop tackle on him vasura here's Akash Fernando looking to make ground Dean senaratna Dam pumps off the tackle of sandipa here's vikam mura here's Akash Fernando again not winning the Collision that time but doing enough to make the ball available here's Udan again to aloda but really well met in the Tackle by Kena Miis outstanding work in defense by Miis there managed to rip the ball and dislodge it they will now look for the clearance kick so a good passage of play from St Thomas's undone by some great defense by the second row forward now they'll go all the way back to the Pucket and zum will thump this one way up field and find the safety of the touch line shum taking his team almost towards that halfway mark But Ken are 100 out of 100 for that defensive effort s THS say just when they managed to reach that 22 me Mark isad turning back ption and getting the ball back what's in Thomases haven't done as well as they should luxu over the course of this season he's get the right people into the right positions and if I were coaching the S Thomas's college team I would want Lena and um karar ratna carrying the ball a little bit more often even Cil Pereira but again another crooked throw Jinger comes away with it but to no aw and it's the second time they've made the same mistake so I really want those two boys carrying the ball and not the all the other forwards trying to carry the ball I want some of them to be ball carriers others to be Rock hitters and that would give them a little bit more options a little bit more uh winning Collision it's all about Royal Clarity isn't it Shaka S Thomas while the second time the crook throw in the line out the third line out that didn't go their way in this encounter so far inside the first 20 minutes of this second semi-final there's a bit of confusion going on because I think the referee wants sesad to go off and uh I don't know if I can say this without being funny but to get his head checked literally uh they've uh seen a bit of a head knock that he's taken so somebody spotted it maybe from the touch lines maybe the doctor on the bench but they want to take him off and make sure that they go through the protocols recognize and remove is the call here so there's no hiia the referee is in charge that's exactly what Wanga has done but for some th's point of view they' desperately want the center to come back on it's a nice P for zat Zumi again with that right foot but it's Fallen straight into the hands of mik karunaratna ball is available and Via goes for that box kick and it's dropped by Abdullah fisa and beats everyone to the touch line so a little bit of conf Fusion play not coming off the way they wanted it for isip and S thas was capitalizing and just trying to get a little bit of momentum now that they've had the ball they've felt the body into the contact luxis there looking like a better side they started off in that first 10 minutes very nervously as th College getting the right in this second semifinal and it's going to be a scum in their favor look out for karat karat scored two tries against in that League encounter if I'm not wrong vikasa to feed the ball in for the tomans so this is where vikasa suffer in the league game as well khu shanal always in his ear and he doesn't seem to be able to shrug off a little bit of sledging that Chanel keeps doing do well not to get involved in that because khid shanal is obviously very good at it but vikasa suffers a little bit just watch him just being a nuisance and here's M Kar picks up and goes goes a little bit too laterally and allows the isand defense to regroup here Akash Fernando carrying S Thomas is picking and going but uh stationary on that 22 me line Udan bulat Singa dropping the ball cold looked up a little too early into the face of the ISAT defense and dropped the ball when they had a little bit of momentum so again that move broke down because karuna ratna needs to run a little bit straighter off that number eight break luxus all he needs to do is commit the flank and make sure the ball is available because by the time he's run across the entire forward back has time to break and time to form a defensive line now for the second time s's College after coming close to the 22 M line just unable to keep doing what they have done the continuity of play they have not been able to do that SS's college now we an opportunity to get out of their own 22 you've got to feel for Udan bull single GE as well after the first game this is uh probably only the third game he's playing this season that he's coming into that first line of defense or first line of attack rather as the first receiver so always difficult to come into a high pressure semi-final game like this against a team like ISAT who really know how to get in your face zri vikari taken well in Midfield by Hela and buan sing [Music] again playing a little bit of football was Yan bullet single but now they've conceded the penalty because vasura played the ball well in front of his [Music] Skipper a little bit of game awareness there from monua who needed to get out of the way and zum losing no time in getting back into the thian half and trying to settle things down here's a replay Kalan going for that little kicking playing a bit of football there Shan mentioned but I think that was uh the number 19 who played the ball well in front of sing Cardinal era and they need to make sure that they minimize these mistakes Shaga in a crucial encounter like this yes and you have to feel for yahan because he was looking straight into the Sun as the sun sets onto the left side so behind theat Team exploiting the conditions putting that kick up and forcing the error from attacking line out K ball in Abdul ahammed but the line out s go as they plan isana Abdul Ahmed drops the ball forward so it's going to be a scrum in favor of s just 5 me away from their own TR line not as clinical as forwards coach danush kotu would have liked see that Abdul Lama just dropping that ball into Vikram Asura's hands and there's no Advantage coming from the knock on so they will have the scrums and Thomas is deep On Their Own Line one man shot in the backs as well not sure if uh lunard has made a comeback doesn't look like he in fact he has with his head strapped up Witham sua to his captain angled touch finder which Arun says is well inside the 22 so again a little bit of a lack of awareness that bul sing could probably have moved a little bit further away towards the touch line so he can get that ball away and stand in the pocket not allowing the Defenders direct access to block his [Music] kick still inside the SC 22 me teritory that's still with an opportunity and still inside that danger zone they need to get design out right ISAT was unable to do so in the last one still seven points to nil and near in the 20th minute Mark of the second semi-final the dialog schools Dr winner CS 2024 the winners of this encounter will face St Peters next week if yesterday semi-finals anything to go by luxis he waiting for a treat today as well Wesley really coming back into that game after they realized that they had nothing to lose and it was going to be their last match of the season if they went out 20 points to eight and they really did upset St Peters and if they're without both those First Choice centers Emit jaira and Yumi jiara then you have to think whoever wins this might have a good crack at that knockout Championship Abdul Ahmed this time gets it right and Sedum Raja Baka comes back they do the same they did on the opposite side but kisar keeps it in field [Music] nicely but Arona Santa's flag stayed down but like that was a forward pass tried to put the ball back in before he went into was tackled into touch but uh the ball went forward unfortunately is the replay so and thus once again it's going to be a strum inside their own 22 they have been stuck inside their own 22 for the last 5 minutes fora need to make sure that they get out of here and try to mount an attack here it is from vikasa oh that's uh no arms tackle is it from khanal yes it is no attempt to wrap and the referee Wanga very quick and very decisive in both those uh incidents luxi could have been very dangerous so K the shanal won't have too many complaints let's have a look again yes I think that call was absolutely spot on does take his arms out but when you drop your shoulders below your hips that's always is a Telltale sign for referees and no second thoughts there from the referee straight yellow to K the from half so and S thas is both the teams playing with 14 men s th of course they'll be restored back to 15 in a few minutes till the last 3 4 minutes of the first half they'll have to play with 14 it's the lineup for St Thomas that's better from wanas in the middle of the line out and they have the penalty coming as welling with the little chip through and that's beautifully collected by by but is there a moment of Madness that might have changed this around let's have a look here it's Dean senaratna that dives onto the back of thura not sure what that was about he didn't throw a punch as far as I can see but uh really not sure why he did that but they're lucky they've got the penalty but they did seem to have the advantage and it's silly because Leona Gad looked like he was absolutely in the clear when he collected that because it was not the player who Ed the balls and THS are still had Poss so I think probably the referee actually didn't notice that because he was actually more focused on what the AR had to say is the AR calling play back definitely there but the AR also probably needs to allow play to go on and then call it back for Foul Play if it's necessary or when it's necessary vasura winning winning this one in the line out and St Thomas is setting up the driving mall it's dragged to the ground but legally so that time and here's aloda this time they wrap their arms around him and over goes Abdul Ahmed Sena ratna cutting back in field that's better from them they've got numbers [Music] now offside at the line out is the call and thians are probably not going to win this match by kicking penalties but they want to have a start on the scoreboard thought with one man down perhaps they would think of a scrum because without the scrum half then it gives Mak karuna ratna maybe one less player to beat and the scrum half doesn't have his man so he can run off his shoulder so there are little things that will come with experience of course sing he has had a lot of points for thses throughout the last three years from 2022 2023 to this year he'll want to add these three well that's interesting there luxis he saw Dean senaratna or was it l that time who walked up to the referee and just uh opened his collar and showed something can only assume it's a bite mark and uh maybe that's why he took leave of his sensors as he jumped on the top of Dietra dang's head and the kick is accurate from Mian bull single and it's seven points to three you can see referee Wanga having a chat with uh nishir and saying look boys it's just a few moments for halim wait for your snack there college they open their count in the second semifinal seven points to three bu Single Again The Keeper adding the all important three points good accurate kick from G now with the restart kick it's long and bullet single will try to exit cleanly which he does but I thought that S Thomas has just missed a trick there luxia would have gone for the kill especially with an influential player like kalindu shanal out of the action gives a lot of options from the back of the scrum when your scrum Hof is off cuz if they want to defend that scrum half position then they need to bring one of the backs in which leaves more room outside so I think they might have sacrificed a good opportunity cost there exactly Shan again he's one of the core players from M and that will definitely disrupt their whole mindset playing without K in an attacking move by S Thomases dang wins it nicely off the line out vikari goes all the way back and this is jair dumping his Way Forward Dean senaratna seems to be galvanized by that little incident and they've managed to rip the ball free and here's chamod Fernando with a really good follow through and that time as the player put the ball down Abdula fisa put the ball down and knocked it on on his way back up so good skills from the fullback but just the accuracy at the dying moments a good Chase from St Thomas's now St Thomas is off adding the first three points of the game with another good opportunity at the 22 M Mark of his partner College half a try here will give them the lead and they can certainly think about that with the absence of kenal here the replay Abdula fiser thought he thought he did okay but while trying to make the collection again he knocked the ball forward fiser really good chase that time from shamod Fernando coming through it's an important scrum and an important moment of the game there's uh adiya madushan who's come into the scrum half position and there's two players over on The Blind Side and M karunaratna probably should have thought about going the opposite way here's Akash Fernando now driving his legs this is better from the experienced second rower and as I say that he conceives the penalty ni about the college doing really well there inside their own 22 they have been really really dangerous for them if St Thomas has managed to continue in that same manner abdulla with the again for and St Thomas's College restored back to 15 men Sha so now they have the numbers Advantage for at least six or five or six minutes yes they've got to make that time before halftime countdown there to try and get as close to the score as possible but again what I was talking about earlier but not the right players with the ball in hand so close to the linei I think Lilla and Pereira need to carry the ball a lot more for S Thomases beautiful take by Danga taking after his brother in the front of that is a line out here it is now available for Shahid zum who hopes for the territorial gain with a man down and might have just overcooked that one a little bit so there'll be another scrum all the way back to where he kicked it St Thomas's will B Be Third Time Lucky sh Suri trying to uh fine touch inside the St Thomas's call 22 minute Tory but overcooked it big time St [Music] Thomases another chance inside is about the colle so theyve got the man over now with d back in the fold they've got to ask him to hug the touch line just try and get the ball out as quick as possible ad madushan will come back into that number nine position which means that the Blind Side is completely open for M karunaratna all he has to do is make sure he beats a flanker so let's see what they can do at this and this time he's not going to go off the back well it's like a anti- tactical Master Class here thead takes it up andul single again now gives it to karar ratna makes a run he should have probably made a few seconds earlier vasura off the back and aloda lovely little step from the center takes it deep into the 22 now they've got to make sure that they don't give the isipatana a defensive line time to form that's a better carry from Akash Fernando cutting back in field but met with a thunderous tackle from Vikram arri is wanua S Thomas is with their tails up here's Lala getting a bit of the action alongside Sia perea it's better from Akash Fernando clearing making the ball available as the thorian contingent in the crowd find their voice finally after almost half an hour's wait this is disciplin stuff from both teams isip very careful not to give away the penalty and making sure they wait until the thians make a mistake how long can they afford to wait is the question still going away from the goal post might want to think about changing direction ction now that's exactly what they do Dean senaratna with the Good carry here's Kar ratna once again trying to add to his rce of tries in the league game really nice
