y'all get it popping with the firecrackers this weekend or during the week I did um well no I didn't actually off no Canon no Canon uh did not light off any fireworks watched some from afar uh so where my where I live is right now next to where all of the people come to watch fireworks here um and I wanted to get out of that mess so we went to a uh to a friend's house to watch them from afar uh but I you know I've seen enough fireworks in my day uh and then of course Instagram probably put about 17 hours worth of fireworks into my feed I got man they just never look good right they just don't look like what you think they do when you're taking the video right do you put that up there with put that up there with the uh 400 updates on Instagram story from a concert yeah know I get it concert's okay I don't mind it depends on the concert and you can't overdo with a concert you're sitting you're sitting you're drunk and you're screaming into your phone it it's just not good whenever I see Dan concert [ __ ] it' be a Vibe I'm be honest with you be like okay I wish I a little fomo jumps in when I see D that one good seats he's not too excited just maybe five clips and he's out of there you know five is pushing it maybe two three from Dan okay it look like a dope concert yeah well the way Dan the way Dan goes to concerts you know there's caviar uh champagne box seats Andor uh the point America Freedom like we did it we shout out to us right but let's you know Danes two weeks two weeks in a row Dan takes the I hate America stance one no Canon two please stop celebrating uh our freedom I mean if you're gonna light off July I mean if you to me that doesn't show that you love America if you light off just one firework you know what I mean now you're just a nuisance if you light off a whole barrage of fireworks that's the American Pride I need so you know if you're gonna do it go all in but no [ __ ] footing around you know 100% I'm with you on that man but uh overall good good week didn't get into a whole lot over the weekend uh what fishing that's just been a story of my life just fishing fishing fishing uh tried to get a little break my son was hassling me had a friend come into town Fourth of July also brings a lot of like family on vacation so seen a few friends and just did some salt water fishing instead of fresh water fishing caught a few Snappers man that's yeah I saw that you were looking to maybe catch some new types of fish yeah Snapp yeah salt water alog together but Snapper is probably one of my favorite fish to eat that and grouper is my bag but um we've been catching a lot of fresh water I don't really eat the bass and anything that come out of the fresh water I don't trust these canals and whatnot so we just been Catch and Release so um my son wanting to do some more bass fish and there's also no Breeze Inland man I was like y let's let's get on the ocean in the coast to catch a breeze and also we can scale and Fry this sucker up when we done you know we need to get somebody on a charter so silk can take Harlem and they can go out catch some tuna some Marlin some Barracuda really just get after it out there um you're not really fishing at that point you're just like riding along and hoping that something catches on but I'll tell you what when you bring a wahoo in that's a that's a cool feeling right like even if you didn't cast it you know you bringing it in bring it in yeah a cool feeling that's why he keep it's cool we did that down in bimy it's cool just being on the boat because that's a lot of that's a lot of fish yeah that is going straight home with you I don't I don't need to do the work I can watch I can watch you reel it in that's fine I mean some of these chars let you scale it up and fish it right there on the boat depending on which one yeah yeah the captain that we paid to take us out there can scale it up and and yeah yeah and filet that form me and we're not listen like like fishing like Dan goes to concerts that's what that's like right there yeah like when so when I was born my dad's a lawyer and I was born the doctor's like hey do you want to cut the umbilical cord and he's like I don't let my client give uh you know the final the finals whatever it's called the final saying at the end at the end of trial you go ahead and finish what you started the if the boat captain was like hey do you want to scale this fish I was like absolutely not you go ahead scale one fish you scaled another I don't I've had the experience before it how was your weekend uh Nick good good my Gainesville uh to the firework show or actually that was the sorry that was New Year's decided to bring him to the park uh gave him some CBD it just it just made him paranoid um and he took off running so we went we went with we went with we went with an all natural approach just let him sit there with his anxiety and he just ran into the ran into our closet so Norman was fine Boomer was well we are join we are we are going to break down until the season starts the next six seven weeks or so we're going to break down each of the Gator's opponents uh we're going to try to bring on a beat writer uh for each of those programs something somebody that knows a little bit more more about that program than we do uh so we can break down what how the Gators are going to fare against their opponents this season uh the first one is Adam lonstein he is from the Sun Sentinel he's gonna join us now longtime uh friend of the program friend of Nick UF grad as well uh but we want to bring on know American exceptionalism is loud and proud for sure nuts Adam it was it was great art man like from every from start to finish is a lot to like dissect and and on on pack um when I first saw it I was like uh this is kind of stale you know like just watching how slowmo it was moving I want to get deep dive into this but you know as I kept watching I start seeing cargo boxes I was like yo this this is next level anywh who go check out the video If you haven't I love it I love it um so Adam want to discuss uh Florida Gator first game of the year is going to be against some Miami Hurricanes in Gainesville August 31st at 3:30 uh p.m. uh we have talked you know pretty extensively on this show during the offseason about who the gator are going to face the difficulty of the schedule and then ultimately a discussion is is the Miami game the most important game on the gator schedule at least for the beginning of the Season uh to set the tone and what that future might bring uh this game has been called The Battle of mid this game has said whatever coach loses has the hottest hot seat in America so a lot of storylines around this so excited to uh to dive in a bit about the Miami Hurricanes probably first things first first couple Seasons under Mario christall Miami probably hasn't had the record that many fans wanted or expected recruiting has gone well there's been a lot of transfers in there's also been a lot of transfers out uh big fish cam Ward uh from Washington State joins the program this year so I say all that to say give us kind of the high level overview of what Miami thinks about themselves and how they're preparing for this upcoming season uh well I definitely think uh that they believe they're a competitive team this year and I believe that too um I I think this team has got a ton of talent um they've got talent in like the crucial positions like quarterback offensive line you know defensive line uh that I think they think they're going to take a really big leap this year and and I I believe that too I la I I bought into the Kool-Aid a bit my my first year on the beat in 2022 last year I didn't as much and that kind of panned out although the there was Improvement uh but this year I think I think the program believes they're going to take a big leap and and I I kind of agree with that I think this team's in a really really good spot this year what do you go ahead Dan no go ahead uh how do you feel on cam Wards uh first year I know a lot of first year guys uh you look at um LSU's quarterback I'm forgetting his name the J Dani J Jaden Daniels um even Graham mer or anybody that has transferred Joe Bur Joe burrow second years were good you know first year was solid not bad but it wasn't like Championship run type uh caliber of uh display of talent football whatever you want to call it how do you feel with Cam Ward's first year uh being the quarterback them having a cool Aid out um trying to you know get the playoff playoff talk going do you think year one is enough time for him to be able to execute that and also game one in the swamp first go at it um how do you feel about that I I think it's going to have to be because he's not going to have a second gear at Miami uh you know I think this his last year of Eligibility uh although the co year makes everything more complicated but I think this will be his only year and even if he does have another year of Eligibility possible I don't think he wants that I think he wants to go to the NFL that's why he declared for the draft to start and then changed his mind um I think he wants to be a oneandone at Miami and I think he's he's definitely capable of having a really strong one season at um uh I mean first off the big thing he was there for spring you know um brought back there was some continuity with um offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson back for a second year a lot of the wide receivers are back you know guys who have been in the system so that helps there's a lot of continuity around him even if he's new to the team and I I think um he's building that bomb pretty quickly like it seemed like um there's a lot made of uh um's top receiver Xavier or stpo and his bond with Tyler van djk their former quarterback they were roommates and all that stuff you all the stuff that the cliche and stuff um but when we talked to Restrepo in the spring he was like well it's not like my girlfriend left you know I he was a friend of mine and I wish him the best but you know cam W's the quarterback now and I'm you know excited to work with him and yada ya y so I mean I think they they built that throughout the spring cam W looked really good in the spring game um so I think it's an he's had enough there's enough continuity around him and he's talented enough to be a very an impact player uh even if he only plays one year at Miami you got a got a whole new Pilates partner yeah just went went up and forgot who he' been doing Pilates with it's crazy cam Ward and it's and I warned Florida fans who are making jokes about uh Jordan Travis's age because Jordan Travis is I think six months older than grah Merz who will be uh 24 before blll season this year but cam Ward I think would have another year his first year was 2020 so it doesn't count so he played in 21 22 23 I guess no this will be his fourth year who who knows the the year yeah the co year makes everything weird and I assume anyone who wants another year can take it I don't know cam McCormack is back for his ninth season so who can say my son's gonna get a CO year when he get to college I could tell yeah yeah I think I have one year of Eligibility left yeah we all do um what what is so part of that too with with what silk was saying I think in when we've talked to Grant Merz here in Gainesville um this spring he said you know hey this time last year I was still learning guys names now I'm I have command of the offense I have timing and chemistry and and it's so much different how much can we expect from cam Ward I mean he is a touchdown maker I think he averaged two and a half a game on his own at Washington state in the pack 10 12 minus 10 um and he gets in the end zone but how much can you expect from him in his first game and it being on the road um in front of roughly 80,000 more fans than he'll play for at Dolphin Stadium it's hard rock now it's hard rock now get that right it's Joe Robbie age bro you showing AG that in my heart it's always Pro Player Stadium um you sh you showing your age's younger yeah my favorite change is when they went from Dolphins stadium to Dolphins stadium yeah yeah dolphin dolphins yeah huge but um yeah I mean it's kind of a it's a tough question because we're we're not going to know until he's lined up in the swamp you know whether or not he's ready ready um you know and the chemistry is there and all that like we're not we're just not going to know because you know we can see him in practice he's going against his teammates who he's been going against for you know in August it'll be like eight months or nine months or whatever uh and it's not as intense as a game and we're we're just not going to know like I said I do think he is building that chemistry like there was a lot of talk of that in the spring that you know that cam got down here and he like one of the first things he did was host all the offensive players or all the skill players for uh a Super Bowl party and like took all the offensive linemen out to dinner which I'm sure that was a you know four or five figure bill um look at niil working yeah yeah look P pays off but um so I mean it's it's impossible to say until we see that on August 31st but I think I mean as much as anybody can be ready to go um on in their first year with a team I I think he is like he seems to have a pretty good grasp of the offense I don't think the offense is like I'm not an ex's and O's guy I'm not like the big you know I'm not a ski like I don't I don't pretend to know that stuff as well as a coach does but I don't think the Washington State offense was dramatically uh different than what Shannon Dawson wants to run it's kind of a similar Vibe uh similar schemes even if it's not the exact same Playbook so I I think he'll He he'll get in well I think he'll I think he's learned the Playbook pretty well uh from what and he's a veteran guy he's not you know we're not talking about a freshman you know a freshman transferring into a sophomore year and stuff so I think he's got a pretty good grasp on it and you know like I said we'll we'll see for sure uh in the swamp I guess my questions are he seems to be a guy that turns the ball over a bit takes a bunch of sacks um throughout his career I think he had 42 years ago and 39 last year yeah more than Grant Merz who spent the entire season on his back yeah no for sure yeah easy Nick um is that something that uh you think is a is a talent deficiency in a Washington state or was it Houston before um is Miami prepared for that are they prepared for a quarterback that is g to be more mobile maybe holds on to the ball a little bit longer how do they anticipate maybe trying to cut down on that number of sacks per game um well I think one Miami's offensive line uh should be pretty good this year they were really good last year and I was just impressed like they started all five uh linemen last year for every game until the ball game which they were very very impressive unit last year and they returned three of The Five Guys um they return Jaylen rivers and Francis maoa on the edges uh and ANZ Cooper at guard BR in Zack Carpenter to play center and then left guard's kind of an open battle between whether it's it'll be uh Samson Oak Lola uh one of the other younger linemen or somebody else but they should be a a pretty solid unit again so I think that's going to help I mean he he has had issues in the past holding on to the football he's fumbled a lot um I don't remember the exact number but I know it came up when we spoke to um to Shannon Dawson in this spring when we spoke to Cam Wen the spring um it's something he's got to work on I think having a talented offensive line in front of him will help you know whether that's you know keeping like you said keeping him off his back uh and and lowering the sack numbers um but is something he has to work on and we'll see how much it crops up because he did fumble a lot like there I think he had multiple games with multiple fumbles and you just if you're playing you know in a competitive ACC and you're trying to get to the AC title game in the playoffs like you can't be fumbling the ball in the pocket two three times a game just can't do that yeah he has fumbled I just found 46 times yeah it's a lot that's a lot of fumbles dude I like that he's played a lot of football yeah yeah I know but like that's that's still like 10 I mean that's not good I get that what has he played four years or five years already so I mean he's four Okay so he's averaging more than 11 fumbles a season it's not great no that's like that's one per game it's actually terrible yeah actually pretty terrible I don't know if I've seen a quarterback fumble that many times in my life combined but that's like the old old school coach would make you like walk around campus with a football that has like your name on it and if one of your teammates brings that football to the coach means he got it away from you like you're you're just running during practice Yeah I love the pettiness that I remember that in high school my best friend was the quarterback and he had he had some fumbling issues so he had to walk around the football for an entire week kind slap it out of his hand oh it's not it's not ideal I think it's something they're working on and I think having a good offensive line in front of him will will help bring that that down a bit what does he didn't go to Miami but maybe he needs to be like Teddy two gloves maybe Teddy some some receiver gloves little spit hold on to that football easy Nick easy little H to on the ball so that was crazy next week I'm I'm gonna end on that it's just trying to keep the podcast relevant you know what I mean um he's been throwing the ball somewhere between 38 45ish times per game there's one game he threw it for 59 uh what do you think he's going to have in terms of number of throws per game is Miami going to be a more runhe heavy offense more pass heavy pretty balanced what what your fans anticipate in that game um assuming everyone's healthy and and we're kind of going with the I mean it's and it'll be game one so hopefully everyone's healthy for that I think it'll be more balanced because um um has a really talented running back room they brought in Damen Martinez from Oregon state who's a thousand yard rusher uh they bring back Mark Fletcher uh who had a pretty solid freshman year he he he was pretty banged up he didn't play in the spring um the end of the year he suffered I think it was an ankle injury uh an ankle injury in the bowl game um but if he's healthy he's a a great you know second back to pair with martinez very uh powerful running back uh and then AJ Allen's a pretty solid running back as well to have as your number three guy so I think and it's Mario Chris Ball you know Mario chis ball team like he's not gonna air it out 60 times a game unless yeah well that too um but he's not going to want to throw 6 times in a game if he doesn't absolutely have to so I think it'll be pretty balanced I don't know if he'll throw it quite as much as he did at Washington state but I mean he'll probably he'll still probably throw 30 plus times a game so I I think you'll see a good share of the running game as long as it's working but um they're gonna let him air the ball out a bit how much is that is that where you kind of see the strength of Miami right now I think both lines of scrimmage I might give Miami the nod um and then you know I think the the running back rooms both both have very deep running back rooms but is that kind of the strength of Miami's team both lines of scrimmage yeah I'd say so I mean the o line like I said you know returns three starters all of whom pretty solid last year uh and like one of them was you know a freshman All-American Francis Mai Noah so you you'd expect him to get better at right tackle um as long as the guys who they brought in you know either either the younger guys or uh Zack Carpenter the transfer center as long as they kind of you know play their role and stuff I think the offensive line should be really good and the defensive line I mean the defensive line it's like a whole new unit like I I did a preview of them uh last week and I was like they only brought back I think five scholarship defensive lineman they lost 12 in the portal and they brought 12 in you know either as freshman or or through the portal so it's like a whole new group so and the players who they brought in like through the portal I think almost all of them if not all of them were starters at their former their former stop so like they're good but I I've never seen them play so I I can't say definitively oh yeah D Line's great but I think it it should be pretty good I mean they bring back Ruben Bane who you know was a terror as a freshman and I think he'll be even better um and if they have a Keem mesidor back healthy he barely played last year he was really good um in his first year at um after transferring from West Virginia so if everything's rolling like the defensive line should be a strength uh but you know people get banged up and guys adjust to a new system and all that so it's hard to say like with 100% certainty but I think they should be pretty good Mario has a reputation of of like pulling the Reigns back of or or putting a cap on you know offense like you were saying if he can run the ball he's going to run the ball how much of that does he have to change this year for Miami to be successful and to live up to a little bit of the preseason expectations um I don't think he has to change per se like I hope he doesn't I don't think he has to because because the running back room is so good like that running back room can carry an offense if they're rolling so like if they're cooking like he'll keep running the ball he'll run the ball down your throat and like if it's working great um what he has to I guess what he and Shannon will have to do is that if they're getting stuffed to let cam Ward air the ball out like don't be afraid to let him throw the ball um if he has to throw the ball 40 times a game to get the win like do it don't be a slave to the running back the running game just for the sake of running the ball um I I think that's the key I don't think he has to deviate a Tong because I do think that running back room is really good and they can you know do damage but if they're not if there's a there's some games last year where they just were not getting anything going on the ground um and he just kind of kept going to it um waiting for you know a hole to open waiting for that running back those running backs to to make something happen and just kind of never did and part of that was also because their passing game had a stretch last year where that was just awful um Tyler van djk had a run you know during ACC play that was just abysmal uh so they kind of had to rely in the running back room and it wasn't always working um he would assume cam W being better than Tyler van djk won't have that kind of awful stretch and they can switch around you know change things around around more easily but you just can't let yourself get stuck in any one particular thing even when it stops working no doubt uh what do you guys uh how do you guys view our depth chart or what do you hear from the Miami side with this this game one on what fears you from the Florida roster um well it's funny because if you asked me that like two three months ago I'd have been like Miami is going to win by 10 points like this is not going to be a close game I was not high on Florida at all uh and then the transfer portal opened again um and I started thinking more about the Florida roster and I'm like okay this team is better than I thought uh there's more there's more here than I originally thought um the biggest thing that would worry me from if I'm Miami the biggest thing that would worry me is the secondary versus grah Merz because gr mer is a very good passer uh very accurate and Miami's cornerback room is probably and its safety room probably are its biggest weaknesses um they lost a bunch they lost their two starting safeties to the NFL um they lost trying to remember off top of my head uh one of their starting quarterbacks uh to the NFL and I think another couple other to graduation who didn't who didn't latch on with an NFL team so like they're basically returning one starting quarterback in their secondary um and they've got talent but there's just not a lot of experience in that in those groups not a lot of starting experience so you're up in game one in the swamp you know like we talked about um and you're going against a quality veteran passer like Graham Merz like that's my biggest concern for the hurricanes in that game is whether Merz can kind of pick apart that secondary and if if if the gator offensive line can hold up against um against um's defensive line and give Merz time then I I think that's the biggest thing that Florida can do uh to get a win because I just don't know how the secondary is gonna do they don't have like they've got one guy who's like oh yeah that's the uh the guy who's going to step up who was a freshman last year deari browni Brown yeah like he he's he's good but he hasn't really been a starter and they brought in Michelle Powell from Washington um who could play safety or or nickel quarterback and he's good as well but it's his first game in the system and everything his first game with um so TBD on that like they've got guys but I haven't really seen them do it and it's gonna be it's gonna be a really good test for for both teams see whether they can um whether mer team pick them apart or whether they can step up and and perform at the level that I think the rest of the team probably well man you call murder you call murder MERS a very good passer man that was not the tune last year of everybody man so I like your honest what was his completion percentage last year like 75% right well who whoa whoa whoa whoa like listen all right here's Nick we need we need to go into uh the stats like when you are just tossing a ball seven Ines forward to a streaking Jet Sweep like that's that's that's a handoff yeah Adam asked a specific question the answer is his completion percentage was 72 Point led the SEC he led the SEC 20 interceptions three or 20 touchdowns three interceptions um his long ball was 61 yards 69.3 qbr uh Nick's just a hater um's he's I mean regardless I mean maybe he's not a Heisman candidate but he's a capable passer oh for sure no I mean he's definitely decently good grah was draft like third fourth round like that's where I got him at I think he's gonna be a quality draft pick too Graham did everything he was asked to do early on and then when Florida got into you know the Arkansas LSU uh those games where it was like Hey really started at South Carolina where they you had to throw the ball late to win and and you saw Florida play this slow plotting run first offense through the first half of the season and the second half of the season was kind of like if we're gonna have any chance to win these games we're gonna have to air it out and then Graham did that and did that well um so I think that's where the really the change personally my on Graham okay they can he can win games with his arm you're just really hard to hang out with every week you know what I mean you know sometimes you just they're hard to hang out with Adam asked a very honest question just what was his completion percentage then all of a sudden your PhD in Gator hater Aid came out you got all the uh the higher level analytical stats on onall I think gr merch is the best quarterback in the stadium in August 31st so take quarterback in the State of Florida negative Nick haters interesting interesting how do you think the uh I'm sorry I'm sorry Dan go ahead how do you think the 990,000 affects um Miami I know they used to seeing like 78 Grand a week do you think do you think the crowd becomes a factor for them communication wise game wise that's one thing one thing I think is interesting because he's talking about all the new pieces in the secondary it's probably better if you're new in the secondary communication wise to play your first game on the road because it's going to be quiet when you're out there and it's easier to talk and easier communicate versus having a 22 find something every time Dan I listen I every time well that's that's something I'm I'm trying to think back the last two years like what are some of the bigger environments they've played in like they played at A&M uh in 2022 uh 106,000 people there and I the crowd noise was a little bit of a factor but wasn't like the decisive thing most overrated stadium in college football in my opinion I I disagree I I think I thought it was awesome when I went there um compar in comparison but um trying to think where else they play they played at you know at Virginia Tech was which is pretty loud um UNC wasn't crazy but I think it'll probably be a factor but if they get out to like an early lead like say Miami goes up 103 or something say and say the gator offense is the same kind of slow plotting kind of thing that doesn't get the crowd fired up and things kind of quiet down from 110 DB to 95 um then you know that that's a big factor if you know cam Ward get picked off on his first drive and the crowd's going nuts then that can play a role but I I don't I think I think they can handle it cam Ward cam Ward I don't know his exact what road games he's played in off the top of my head but he played in big environment just once he played he played at Wisconsin uh and at USC those were the biggest environments he played maybe at Oregon or at at Washington yeah he played at Oregon yeah so those are en Stadium can get after it yeah it's not like huge Stadium yeah they can get loud um so I me I think it can be a factor it just kind of depends on on the flow of the game um but I I think the players are are pretty capable I'm sure they'll be blasting you know crowd noise and practice and all that stuff that you do in the week leading up to it but uh I don't know we'll see if if the crowd's at its peak I mean I've been to Gator games like like you said I I went there and stff where it's uh you can't hear yourself think and if it's that level of delium um the standout experience for me was um when Florida almost went up 143 on Bama in 2011 that was the loudest I ever heard that Stadium okay but so if it's like that then yeah I'm sure it can play a role but if it's just normal normal swamp I think they'll be okay a no normous one is that when Andre the Bose returned to kick yeah yeah yeah yeah I think so I think it was the Bose returned to kick and then Brantley through a pass I think it might have been also to deos that they called a touchdown on the field and then it got like overturned review or something and but for a moment it was 14 to3 yeah I was lying I remember that night y time I I expect a very loud yeah I expect a very loud building I'm I'm be real with you it's just a rivy game we don't play Miami all the time the tickets are like sold out already yeah um I'm expecting a very rowdy crowd at 3:30 humid in the swamp it's gonna be yeah it's gonna be miserable weatherwise man but it's gonna be one of them games bro and I think both coaches can go on the hot seat after this one like whoever loses this game I'm not gonna say Hot Seat but they G well Napier is definitely gonna be on the hot seat I'm not going to speak for uh Mario Chris the ball but he lose that game is definitely going to draw some bad and negative attention from the uh supporters of of Mario so that game one is very important for both programs yeah and I mean context is so important I think Mario I don't think Mario's gonna be on the hot seat even if they lose like one because the rest of the schedule is not that hard like they should be able to even if they lose that game my goodness yeah it's a pretty easy I pulled up I pulled up the schedule I mean it's not that Ball State USF I don't know what Cal is but shout out to I think the big you don't know what Cal is theal know what they are Powerhouse accous oh yeah sorry I forgot the longstanding ACC rivalry between Miami and C the all Coast Conference baby um yeah their schedule's pretty manageable as opposed to Florida which is very not um so I mean if even if Miami loses this game especially if it's a close game like a good game okay you lost the game on the road to arrival in front of 990,000 people turn things around you could still win nine 10 games like and still compete for the the conference and the and the playoff uh whereas Florida you and you have that excuse of it's it's an away game like right like if this game was in uh the Miami Dolphins stadium Florida has that excuse hey it's it's first game we're on the road had a bunch of transfers bunch of new guys playing in their first game lose to arrival on the road how can you possibly remember what Jersey everyone jersey number everyone's wearing and stuff yeah yeah yeah man Miami fans gonna lose their mind when they lose this game like the fans the media it's gonna be think pieces now will he literally be on a hot seat and and and like possibly fire I don't think that's going to happen but from a fan standpoint to lose to Florida oh yeah people people would obviously be pissed I I like I I remember one thing that always always stuck with me I think it was on the in the athletic piece about you guys um and about like uh how with the big three in Florida Miami Florida and FSU like it's just always two against one so like whoever loses this game in week one they're gonna just be hearing it all week on Twitter from everyone uh it's going to be nuts like yeah and it's going to be and that part's going to be awesome um I just do think like if I think Florida has more to lose in this game than than Miami does what um I agree with that like look at the rest of Florida schedule like you got to catch wins early um and and I think especially for Florida they struggle so much on the road um you have to you have to get home wins um and getting a win over Miami is would be huge for for Napier in the program and like I I don't want to live on the message boards or on social media uh in a world where fla starts out1 man you talking about some think pieces and it's going to go crazy if we lose to be real with you like that seat's going to be scorching hot we'll see how it all plays out yeah from this moment are you guys uh or do you think Mario is planning or or in the back of his mind a DJ lagway package U he bring brings a different element to the table I think DJ lagways get some some uh totes and some some snaps week one is that something you think you get those guys a prep for you said you said DJ lagway package I thought you might have meant like uh to sway him to transfer after the year um but whoa whoa no I mean you have to you have to you have to be prepared for there there's no film you know there's no breakdown of what they're going to do you're coming into this game pretty much blind uh you you have to be ready for for DJ lag way and prepare for him um to have some kind of impact on the game because you have you have no idea you have to be watching that High School film see what he can do uh and go from there and prepare you know tell tell your players get them ready you know show them film on on lagway from high school and just be like hey this guy could come in and and do some different things so I think you have to yeah that's my exactor in the game right there it's some DJ liveweight packages that nobody's really expecting I think you got to get him on the field early um from a run game perspective this run this offense runs different when you can RPO merch is not a real threat to run while he can run but he's not a real threat a Lag Way could come in if it's like third and short like TBO did early in his career a goal line situations whatever it may be but I think he comes in and bring some wrinkles get some 2006 Vibes I mean not I don't have those vibes I wish I had those vibes I do not have those vibes right now Adam I'm be real hoping for those is um like just looking at Mario so like I think Mario and Billy are kind of tied together they're both highered the same off season um both are under 500 heading into year three um so I've kind of called it like the Hope Bowl like good luck selling hope the rest of the year if you lose this game um but if you look at Miami like if they just decide to take a knee um they have eight wins last year um is there a sense that Mario was on a hot seat at all this year if especially with a manageable schedule if you go six and six seven and five against what is perceived as a manageable schedule do things get spicy at the end of the year um yeah I think that if if things go that badly then yes then I think there's there conversations going I I don't know if the school would pull the trigger on it anytime soon because that's a lot I that's more money than this isn't the SEC you know guys aren't getting $70 million buyouts um so shout out to Jimbo Jimbo hey man good for him get get that money um I would love to get paid $70 million to not work but um I just don't think they'd pull the trigger on that anytime soon I think you'd they it would take at least another down year after this year to really get things you know outside stuff notwithstanding or something or like some Scandal or something but um just in general just from perform I see you're still scarred from your uh from your uh independent alligator days covering Florida or you you never know off the field scandals yeah you never know I remember I wrote something called the incarcerator when I was bored one day in the summer that was fun oh good um yeah but uh I was bored and there was nothing to write about in the summer but um but yeah and I I think if the season goes poorly and they like squeak into a bowl you know then it's a problem then now then we're talking about Chris Ball on the hot seat but it's a lot of money wrapped up in him a lot of money wrapped up in the program now they they invested a lot of money in the program uh after they got uh taken a task by Kirk herbstreet on college game day so like I I don't see it happening this year unless things go really really wrong um and I just don't I think the team is too good to be that bad but it's Miami you never know um that's happened before I but I I think I think this team's floor should be eight wins if they lose if they win fewer than eight games then there's something deeper there's a deeper problem and that's when things start getting heated up I think yeah I think fans are gonna be mad with eight wins as well they would be mad but I think I think eight wi you go eight and four fans will be mad but it's progress and they're recruiting well and it's not GNA get eight eight and four is not except would not be acceptable really but it also wouldn't get him on the hot seat I don't think just for performance so like eight eight and four is like that that gray area where people are pissed but they're not going to fire him for that they'll probably start boycotting games though how not showing up they do that at weekly Adam you'll be you'll be back in Gainesville what are you looking forward to going and seeing uh by the way significantly different that's what everyone tells since you were here yeah I I haven't been back in Gainesville in six years I was up there for the UF LSU game in 2018 um trying to think like everything everything's gone like from what I hear everything that I from when I was a student you know everything's gone but I'll have to make a pilgrimage to satchels like I know that's that's the it's a cliche answer but like since Leo is gone like I have to get over the satchels um trying think what else um I have a new I have a new best pizza in Gainesville it's Blue Highway oh been I had blue high before off the beaten path over tooga but best pizza in game didn't they didn't they used to have something on 13th too or am I thinking something different like down like towards mopi like way down 13th maybe I'm misremembering but yeah Satchel will be I'll have to make a pokri midge up there um get some pizza have a couple have a couple drinks inside of smoky salty oh God uh I probably first mag too got to hit up first mag all right we will bring you back on when we get closer to the season you know this is a a far long look at the entire season we're about to do here but I'm excited for that week one game if you're if you're in time definitely hit us up we'll be tailgating and hanging out a little bit so pull up on us yeah I got I gotta I gotta get back into football mode I've been covering the Panthers for the last like two months so covering a championship team that's different for me yeah Dan's actually from South Florida and has forsaken his home and a hockey guy has forsaken his home uh Town p in favor of the not Stanley Cup champion Tampa Bay Lightning what were you thinking you're muted Dan you're muted Dan but it's probably better that way um no so um grew up a Panthers fan for the first 20 five years of my life they provided me nothing other than one disappointing Stanley Cup loss uh to the Colorado Avalanche when I was eight years old uh moved to Tampa went to a Lightning game and I was like oh this is what hockey should feel like so um longest sellout streak in the NHL still um I thought congratulations to the Florida Panthers really really cool to get their first I've seen the lightning playing three win two uh in my 10 years of being a fan so that's been pretty cool too but not hating on the Panthers happy for them and always enjoy keeping it out of Canada shout out to state income tax uh in Florida uh helping the best player State been a bad year for Canada man we win in in hockey Kendrick Lamar it's been a rough year for Canada for Canada Drake Drake had a $500,000 bet on Edmonton and he obviously lost that and I was like damn it's rough when losing 500 Grand is like the second worst thing to happen to you this summer not even your biggest L of the year does he ever win like I I feel like every time I hear about Drake doing fine no I mean obviously Nick BR Sports he's a curse for sure yeah yes yeah man um Adam let everybody know where they can follow you on social media um yeah I'm mostly on Twitter X whatever we're calling it now uhab yeah Twitter always Twitter to me just like uh stadium is always Pro Player um you can follow me at AB lickstein you can read everything I write uh sunsentinel.com we're always running subscription deal so if you want to read all about the hurricane stuff uh in the leadup to the game you can subscribe probably for like a dollar for like a year so um just sign up you know it's a dollar it's like onethird of a cup of black coffee at Starbucks so like uh make sure you check me check out my uh everything I'm writing I'll be at I won't be at ACC media days but I'll be at uh you know fall Camp all August sweating my butt off outside um and uh looking forward to coming up there and uh end of August yeah black coffee at Starbucks is also a wild decision I agree no no I agree I agree I I agree if I go to Starbucks I got to get I got to get some milk and sugar in my coffee you got to get all the shenanigans in it man you just can't be drinking that black that's crazy black coffee I was I was I was going to say it's like the price of like like like half a cup of coffee I was like wait a second no my order at Starbucks is like five bucks now yeah yeah yeah this is 30 ounces of uh black coffee that was $5 that's that's love it well Adam we appreciate you have a great rest of your uh your offseason and uh congrats on the Panthers winning that I'm sure that's cool to cover as a uh as a report writer so oh yeah oh yeah it was awesome game seven was coolest environment I've ever been in but maybe maybe August 31st we'll top that we will see be scra as ganza man come yeah pull up you're gonna see how we party out a big win man see what happens thanks for having me guys thanks appreciate have a good one what was I what was I W what was I inane Forte just everything I do think uh that it was funny that Cory you mentioned to him about seeing how Wild and Florida gets when they win a game because he went to UF uh yeah like you have no idea how hard we parted so I do but yeah yeah a little bit I was there bro not that time that he was there probably not right who do he have m m yours I don't know I just pulled this up my buddy was some good wins that that year yeah he said the the B game uh with no he he wasn't even a student in 2011 I don't think Adam was I think it was we correct 17 Deontay Thompson that had the kick return Florida is uh I went and did the math Florida is 80 and 58 in the 138 games they've played since I've been here I have covered 11 Seasons five of them have been losing Seasons which is unbelievable so we know we need get rid you yeah we got get rid of you I I'll go back and live in South Florida cool I know you down bro prices are crazy you go cover fa if Lane goes back to fa I'll cover fa cost of living is nuts man you g you gonna miss them cheap beers in Gainesville real quick when you go to a random bar and in in a in a draft beer is 20 bucks like what the hell's going on that's that's insane yeah same prices they got charged 20 7 from espresso Martini on Wednesday night so sir what yeah you're telling me um all right let's give a quick shout out to our friends over at Alumni Hall go check out next game of the season gentlemen is Samford it was interesting a couple years ago it was very interesting game a few years ago um you might remember uh the Gators were in a a dog fight Dan mullen's Florida Gators were in a dog fight against Samford and then live streamed Club Dub in the locker room yeah yeah uh let me just pull pull up that wow that was that's when I knew it was over yeah so November the Sid these jobs are to like help us and like hey here's a program record career record and they're like telling us this stuff I'm like hey man nobody cares that emry Jones is getting close to Breaking this School record in passing yards because it's the fourth quarter he's thrown the ball 57 times against Sanford yeah so I'll never forget I was down in Miami for a wedding that weekend and we were just gonna go to the bar for a few hours to watch before we yeah because we thought it would be like 36 to nothing buddy if the score wasn't 42- 35 Samford at halftime uh the Gators did win that game 70- 52 after heroic 35 Point second half um out scoring Samford 35-1 in the second half uh in the only meeting the Gators have had against Samford uh um the gator will then uh play them again week two uh not a lot to report back on the beautiful Samford Bulldogs who are in the Southern Conference um yeah they yep they start their game uh against the or they start their season against the University of West Georgia before playing Florida then Alabama State then Ferman VMI and it goes on um so statistically Samford we're just going to run through just a couple things here guys I know you guys don't careford had an F had an FCS first team All-American quarterback who graduated last year so statistically the offense of numbers will be a lot yes Michael hes yeah yeah who threw for 3,56 yards not a lot to report uh J Stan a leading rusher from last year um their second leading uh rusher damont Witherspoon is going to Tote The Rock for them uh this year uh their leading receiver from last year Chandler Smith he looks exactly like you would imagine a Chandler Smith he's graduated uh Tai King their second leading receiver uh also graduated DJ Reyes their third uh wide receiver also graduated as well so um the upstart Sanford bulldog will be replacing a lot of offensive Talent uh in this game this is a game the gator should win by a lot um for a variety of reasons but the Gators absolutely no matter what happens in week one have to absolutely figure out way to uh to get DJ lagway into this game get him some packes get him an opportunity to play and hopefully they're not losing at halftime yeah I was talking to um to Zach Alie yesterday and I was like the the hype that Anthony Richardson had that year um when emry Jones was a starter and you just saw like enough glimpses of him uh you probably should have started him Dan Mullen thumbed his nose went double Birds to the fan base being like hey you guys wanted me to start in richardon we'll do it against Georgia this week right and I think we were all like we we' waited three months we can wait one more week not against the Georgia team that's going to have six guys on defense draft in the first round maybe right the next week um but you have to get like you're not going to get DJ lagr for four years he's not going to be a college senior if he is at Florida if he is what he's going to be what we think he is he's a three andone player um if he isn't what we think he's going to be he's probably in the portal and going somewhere else um that's just what that's just what the nature of college of college quarterbacks I mean you're looking at um d j ulele i I have no idea yeah you got it right he's on his former number one player in the country is on his third school and in his Fifth Season like those type of quarterbacks aren't going to be at one school for four years um there's no point in red shirting DJ and I think you need to talking to recruits um guys who are visiting campus it's wild to hear how they talk about like oh I'm excited to meet DJ lag I'm like this guy dude hasn't thrown a pass yet but he has that kind of Aura around him with recruits you need to build some sort of hype around DJ manufacture situations for him in games where you can get him a run a touchdown a deep pass a highlight play to show people Hey listen I don't care if Grant merch throws for 8,000 yards this year that means nothing to the tight end wide receiver offensive lineman you're trying to recruit Grant Merz will be 24 years old in December and drafted in February or March whenever the draft is like you need to show ail fans April and April you need to show fans you need to show recruits like hey this is this is the guy that you're going to be catching passes from this is the guy that's gonna be leading our team um and I think especially for fans too like there's there's a probably minority of fans but a loud minority that are like just off the billing apier train and unless he wins 10 games this year they think he St anymore bring bringing up a bringing up a comment from the very beginning from our old friend I'm army sniper yeah Billy apier has been getting getting at it this our getting hit getting hit gez Lise all offseason right there's been no letting up uh for this Gator fan base this off season uh yeah I think the fan base kind of split 5050 at this point uh game one is going to be very good uh very important for um um fan morale recruiting and a lot of different things going on around the football program uh what what part of the roster do you guys like going into the Miami game or into the season not into fall Camp which room do you guys feel that we need to like you know see see some improvement for to have some progress this year are you guys offensive line yeah I would say sacked 31 times um I think we talked last year like I don't think I don't think there's a huge difference or I I I think you disagreed so but I don't think there's a huge difference between Montrell and Trevor etn I just think Trevor eten Has a Little More burst so when he broke his first tackle it was at the line of scrimmage and when Montell was breaking his first tackle it was two yards behind the line of scrimmage so when you break two tackles to get three yards or just get back to the line of scrimmage I think that was the difference between them and that goes to the offensive line if Florida's going to be successful they're going to have to be able to uh run the ball Grant m is going to have to not be peeling himself off the turf 30 plus times again this year I think dline is well one of the guys said in the comments shout out to David but our pass rush was abysmal last year Prince Le's gone we brought in some guys with the porter we got slackman some other guys uh and also the linebacker room um Shamar being healthy bringing in pup like that front seven getting cheed up the defense just was I was losing the little hair I got left you know all last Season watching my defense so that front Seven's got to get better with stopping and run and also uh just getting to the quarterback yeah no absolutely um you know and I think that those obviously helped the secondary the secondary was an easy target last year to to criticize and and they certainly were not without Faults Are blame but when they have to to try to block somebody for for five six seven eight seconds on an island it's it's you're going to get beat and things are going to happen so you got to be able to get after the quarterback you guys are 100% right there uh I I think for me it's just the offensive line defensive line everything that you guys said to add another Wrinkle in there is just a being able to figure out those the difference makers on the offensive side of the ball right like you know what you have in Montreal Johnson you know what you have in Trey Wilson you know Elijah Badger coming over you know how does that translate uh who's your number two wide receiver who's your number three wide receiver are they going to be able to to step up some opportunity you do or you don't I love the wide receiver ruin I like the I like the potential I just don't know if I love what the contribution has been thus far right um play calling is is is more so uh in like contribution I guess you losing uh peaw who was the number one target last year but from an ability standpoint I think Elijah Badger and and Trey Wilson just brings a lot of problems for a lot of defenses is it's to me it's play call and if we can figure that out but the weapons are there in my opinion offensively I I think you have some weapons um I think it's a matter of badger new to the system new quarterback still has some sort of injury concern out there not enough for Florida not to take him but but that's sitting out there uh DK Shamar DK obviously had a great couple years with graham Merz at Wisconsin fell off last year didn't look great in the orange and blue game Andy Jean is a guy we're hopeful for Aiden miselle is a guy that we're hope full so there's some guys that are are highly rated in that class it's just a matter of they're all going to be new right except for Trey Wilson C Jackson like what he did at times last year but he had one maybe two catches a game right so there's going to be some Reliance on him um you know for him to be able to be more than just this like showstopping like one time make that really cool catch and then you don't hear from the rest of the game right so there's just a lot of different pieces that you look at the talent it's like it could be there but I want to see it and who's going to step up to that role right a lot of stepping up got to happen this year like all the way around uh we was a very young team last year and that was a lot of excuses of of the young snaps that were giving out but it's the SEC it's big boy football it's Florida Gator and sophmores juniors all those young boys got to step up there's no excuses this fall the Blue Chip ratio I think they had us ranked 11th in the country as far as how many blue chippers are on the roster so it's not a lot of excuses there bro is win or you don't this this year bro yeah I mean it's Napier's roster uh there's like eight guys left over that that were signed like by Mullen like this is Billy Napier's roster um you can argue that you can flip a roster much quicker with the transfer portal um Florida and this staff wants to build through High School recruiting and supplement through the portal I think what they added in the portal this year specifically on defense is experience and Veteran leadership because um you can use the young excuse but like Jordan Castell is not young he's a sophomore but he played in every game last year yeah played more snaps than anybody else on defense so he's not young anymore um you're GNA have a guy like shmar James who's a junior but maybe young in terms of just snaps taken because of his injury last year uh pup Howard's young but you can't use young as an excuse like you said so yeah yeah no and I just want to see some more fundamentally sound football I want to see us get the right number of players on the field with 11 different numbers I want to see some better tackling and just you make sure the play call gets in on time if you're going to call time out let's not get a delay game outside of that um you know let's just play some some good sound fundamental football and it'll be wild to watch if they can do that how much better a team can perform if they don't constantly shoot themselves in the foot and if they don't if they don't we'll bring uh Matt zenet back on the show and we'll talk coaching hot seats for next season or coaching take my turn you leave in December yeah get Pete thill on the show him and Scott Strickland are boys so um find out where Scott Strickland's next home is um and find out where what Florida's gonna be doing so all right gentlemen any uh any final thoughts before we get out of here 8:31 we going up top man we G to start this season off one and0 um I I like uh our match up with Mario chrisal ball he's super conservative coming into the swamp I like my run game um we not talking a lot about Kan and Daniels but I think he's going to go absolutely stupid game one sort of game one I think is going to go stupid um Trey Wilson is going to be a problem I like our match up the secondary is food uh we just got to be able to you know uh keep Ruben Bane and sustain him as much as possible because he's a change just the Difference Maker on defense period um cam ward he has fumbling issues we just got to keep him in the pocket contain him for the most part but live stadium I think it's going to be a lot of problems for them I'm just we got more Miami coverage as we get closer to the season but rest of the the rest of the schedule is a lot of iffy stuff but I feel good about the Miami game okay um I had one question I thought of it when um heal heal health is gonna matter Camp Health on both teams matter for sure yeah maybe maybe one scrimmage instead of two scrimmages in Fall Camp just one just one okay you lost I mean you lost two guys you lost Justice Boone and cam Carroll last year yeah that was brutal Justice boom was big brutal I need him to come back mad this year bro need Justin boom to come back with his hair on fire for sure hey tra tra why you out there in Dallas hurricanes on his way man blessings stay safe if anybody that's in Texas tr's trav's a Florida guy it's a category one no just Dallas not Houston so he's fine yeah week no it's just like the rain at that point right like Brooke just got back from Tulum she was flooding she stuck there an extra day um but you so she was they were only like 30 minutes from where or like yeah 30 minutes from where the ey went you know we're talking about like tropical storms and depressions and obviously the the hurricanes are really bad for the wind and storm surge and everything else but those depressions and storms just bring like just Monumental amounts of rain and they're just annoying so so stay safe yeah that stinks you'll be you'll be all right Kyle brings up a great place that schoolo pizza that's off the beaten path too very very good pizza it's like a Greek restaurant but they have some fire pizza um but I wanted to get what is how would you rank since we're starting off with a rivalry game how would you rank in your opinion you personally the rivalry games in terms of importance hatred whatever metric you want to use like I'll give you I'll give you I'll give you guys top three so you're gonna leave somebody off okay um and I think I think the answer to this probably tells people's age because like growing up Florida just beat Georgia Georgia wasn't like a huge game in terms of are you gonna win or lose this so for me growing up it was Florida State a lot of Florida State friends down in South Florida um then it was Tennessee that game was always the first or second game in the SEC National Title implications in September um SEC Championship games for sure in September um and then I think I would do Georgia thir um growing up LSU wasn't really a rivalry but I think LSU might even be I I really enjoyed the Florida LSU game I think we got order I got the same order uh Florida State for me uh my brother was the Florida only Florida State fan in the family we shared room yeah yeah bro um no pun intended definitely the black sh oh yeah yeah I get it yeah uh and I think it's the same order I would go Tennessee just from that era like now it's probably flipped from my childhood and most my gator life now I probably flip that to Georgia since they've been getting some hella get back um but it's the same order Florida Tennessee Georgia Florida Georgia yeah I'm sorry Florida State Tennessee Georgia yeah yeah no I would I would agree that that was the order for a while I think now it's Georgia Florida State LSU St St one for me yeah um them the Ops yeah but I don't I don't even know where Miami would be on that list for me I I just growing up inth Florida I was around Miami a lot so I just thought their fans were just kind of annoying U but I don't even know if it's like really like a rivalry I know we're in the same state but I don't even know if it's like much of a rivalry for me but but it's like Florida Auburn if you talk to somebody a Gator fan who was born in the 60s or 70s right Florida Auburn's a great historic traditional rival and it's like Florida's play Florida plays Texas A&M more than they play AUB right sure yeah I mean I miss our now yearly rivalry with Vanderbilt going away I miss the by anual trip to Nashville that's what I miss it's it's a crying shame also like what are we doing look at I'm looking at like Missouri's schedule versus Florida's and I'm just like Missouri plays like think like Alabama and Oklahoma and then they get like South Carolina um vanderbelt and I'm just like could have thrown me a bone you could have thrown me a Nashville trip Nashville and Austin in the same and somehow you would have made the Nashville trip negative somehow yeah somehow there something about an 11:00 a.m. kickoff it's cold you know I me we can personal Vibe any trip to Nashville is fantastic yeah somebody my brother calls it the white white Atlanta yeah that makes sense yeah I don't see it music big big in big in the yes I've always known Atlanta as a big music scene at like bars and restaurant s yeah no a Magic City Y got they got a Magic City in Nashville too they have a pink pony Pink Pony not that you would know yeah maybe drove past it once oh yeah I mean it's it's close to downtown yeah pink sound like an experience sounds like there's one in Atlanta too I think there's a few of them I think the Pink Pony in Atlanta is a little different though no no no Nashville the white Atlanta is funny is it I haven't been but that's what my brother call it my parents just went up there then my parents uh just went up with uh my um godparents and and another couple first time they were in Nashville loved it my brother Lov it I got to get out there bro last time I was about to go we lost a Vander build and I was so glad I didn't go because that have ruined my first experience in Nashi oh we would have made it a lot better real quick get you out to this out to the stage Get You On The Honky Tong singing friends Low Places trying to make it that's that's a that's a vlog Sil getting fitted for some cowboy boots yeah go alligator yeah I tell you what I got ready to do that dordon interview so I was like we were going to a f so I was like let me go get me some boots and I walked into the boot story and I surprise yeah yeah yeah there's a couple zeros yeah yeah think there might be one zero there's a couple zero cple no yeah every boot I like was like crazy expensive I was just like y'all can't afford the paons baby I gota get up out of here yeah it's not on a ring never wearing these boots again nah I'm cool DK what's up man congrats on the kid again bro uh Cory you have song of the week my friend oh I do okay make this sweet and easy yeah different yeah mine was like mine was Irish drinking so I see I can see the correlation yeah I see the correlation for sure all right gentlemen we appreciate you guys for watching we'll see you at the
