[Music] [Applause] [Music] hello and a warm welcome to the makahara messi hall for day nine of the tokyo 2020 summer paralympic games and you join us here for the men's classification matches at the makahari messi hall in the sitting volleyball competition [Music] in this session we're going to have the men's seventh and eighth classification where japan take on the people's republic of china and then we'll have the men's fifth and sixth place classifications where egypt take on germany [Music] in the competition in the separate polls japan were yet to register a victory while china just with one victory and two losses put them in this seventh and eighth classification match japan hosting this paralympic games to get their first victory on the board and finish in seventh place an experienced team in the people's republic of china and are on the left-hand side holding up the shirt of ito number seven there's the team that's there tanikawa and the captain yanagi they're big key attackers taking on the team from the people's republic of china i have one victory to their name in a strong pool they're going with a strong starting lineup led by the captain 13 that dink out for late 7 12. national anthem before they get [Music] um [Music] [Applause] first the anthem of china [Music] and now the anthem of japanese [Music] [Applause] examples of these two teams very well respected by each other and they then face each other on the three meter line show their sporting spirit as the teams from japan and china get ready to be introduced onto the court and get this men's classification match underway winners will finish in seventh place in the competition the losers will finish in eighth here in the tokyo 2020 summer paralympic games it is japan taking on china best of five sets should we need it and yet to mark a set in their column very established an experienced team very new to international sitting volleyball i played the game in the right spirits but i haven't managed to get the victory under their belts they'll be taking on team have experienced similar matches in the paralympic stages a loss against brazil but then a victory against a strong german team for people's republic of china and then they had to go into the game against one of the best teams in the history of sitting volleyball islamic republic of iran to win to go to knockout stages he's not able to officials for the match take that game to iran and random victorious three though from germany utter fisher fisher on the left-hand side will be the first referee from brazil [Applause] the first referee mr bishop will be in control of the game and i'm going to get the two teams introduced onto course and start at six and then starting libra will be introduced onto court [Music] china [Applause] he's a 25 year old he's got 28 kills in the game so far on the tax [Applause] and then number 11. lee lay the top scorer for japan 40 attacks four blocks from the bases to his names and then i think shall shout the captain 34 year old [Music] paralympics and he's also got in the yellow shirt the defensive specialist 24 year old mix i've used an experience here for yeonjing their opponents receiving in the first place in the redshirts are china the home team now of the paralympics japan all smiles and their black shirts for the grey fronts joint top attacks for japan with 10. germany so they're competing here this is the men's seventh and eighth classification match between host nation japan and the people's republic of china here at the makaha in massive hall point goes have that top spin on it and let's get the ball back [Applause] 24 kills in the competition so far with that cross-cut shot paralympian experience with three prior competitions chased down by china but just outreach 52 year old one of the oldest players on the court just dropping outside japanese were hopeful of the ball dropping in chinese team blowing the ball just out wide they lead by one point here with the score 3-2 switch of the attack this time go to reverse to tanaka i'll get past the block four blocks to his name so far following his brother's footsteps to play on the ball paralympic games japan looking to get off the mark for the first victory and we see six from 30 though there's a bit of return on investment for their attacks 11th to 34 slightly better for china they'll be looking to improve that in this competition as this game continues as well that's a great work by lee lay quick reactions puts the ball up in a nice position [Applause] for shoe to attack it on the left hand side in that four position [Music] tight angle for cato he does get the swing but called for lifting two points in a row for china so japan call for a timeout they now trail by six points still smiling i just want to stop this runner points coming for [Music] quick drink quick chat also just puts off the server waiting there to go back on to serve just makes them think a little bit more [Music] a little bit of added pressure for the people's republic of china substitution japan outcomes hold his player on the court for japan paul from the back court attack oh tanikawa goes into the tape no touch off the block might have been using a variety of attacks both front core and backcourt a great kill for the backcourt attack bye zhang pulling away from the block so just leaves that core open really hard to defend when that blocker's out of position another barcode attack that japan can't put enough pressure on so trying to just recycle that ball get it out wide on the reverse use the hands okay with a big blocking combination of wong and shoot and it's the second japanese time out now it's 22-12 and it's just been point after point for china a couple of errors and then the attacking options for japan not causing enough damage this chinese defense and they're just turning that defense into attack securing each and every point going forward china need three for points good time at this time they get that first point back always important you are calling a timeout you want to win that very first point back that's a lovely swing down the left-hand side from the back court in the car getting the bet up it was counterpart and then they've just pushed the ball slightly long on the serve all right tanaka so he departs and on comes the libro defensive specialist in the team for japan oh almost gets the touch he does get the touch [Applause] he was going very flat on that attack gonna use the hands his little finger oh what a swing that was frank jiang he has respect of the elders they've gone straight in the chest of the oldest player on the court there and again another swing does get a touch off the block china showing why he does what he does and takes the set 25-14. a little bit more resilience in at the closing points they may not have gotten the way they wanted but japan were fighting harder asking a lot more questions putting the chinese defense under the task but it is a team in red from the people's republic of china taking the first set 25 14. sharing the top scorer number 11 from china with five points [Music] and we see eight from 40 for japan not enough return on investment there and the 16 digs shows that result for china as japan not able to close out their attacks china just recycling the ball and then turning it into attack and get the advantage 25 14. this is a best of five sets should we need it japan will be looking to close this game out quickly if they can japan looking yet still to score their first set first technical timeout when it was 8-7 by the captain ding to his team then at 16-12 after that point it was all china a couple of attacks for japan they'll be looking to start this second set stronger maintain that level all the way through [Applause] they're not changing the ends on each half so stay in the side that they are here japan in the black and grey on the left-hand side china in the red tops black shorts and trousers on the right-hand side and it gets underway with the first attack but almost made it good eight feet out of court [Applause] and the car up number one rolling over onto his shoulder can use in the backcourt option both teams are doing so on that ball just drifting over and then seeing the gap in the corner at position one just tips that ball over the three points away to china they've got to make them work this is the challenge with the game the fact that you can block the serve as well you can't just drop the ball short on the net as it's going to come back with you back to you with interest and another attack down the center this time from wong and flat and hard trying to use the hands get too much on it the incoming is coming in for china from a backcourt position to set to give them three front court attackers and then it's a great swing on the right-hand side [Music] japan have the lead 4-3 top spin of that ball just dropping it inside the line this time [Applause] the number three again goes cross court [Applause] [Music] defense the number nine got the ball up turn it into a point oh it's another huge swing wong has got his range on that right hand shot a little chicken wing defense from tanikawa blocking via shoe good hustle lifting given against the block [Applause] separate referee looking for the body position on the floor and also anybody touching the net on the top clay's just getting a towel just to dry any moisture on the court [Music] so from 4-3 down china now lead 6-4 here in the second set china leading by one set to nil take that first set 25-14 and try to run that fast attack in the middle [Music] blocking duties for china [Applause] tries to go off the hands of the block and wipe off the ball just drops in like they just pointing down to the referee just so he knows telling her that they're at the ball to drop him ding leading the team timeout here they lead more comfortably this time eight four four points in a row for the people's republic of china [Music] hey back with the action then eight four this is where china are gonna look to extend their lead now i'll just stretch it around this middle part of the set four out of eight for wong in the center he's had some of the most powerful hits from that central position to the right hand side there he goes again speed hit no messing though from shoot in that position too [Applause] tall reach reverse set [Music] because they've been bringing the middle into play [Applause] just means that tezawa has to work extra hard whether he goes with middle or gets across out wide to the sets that's what dean is looking to do from a setting point of view he's break that blocking unit up for japan gives the attackers one-on-one options nice little chicken wing by minikawa over by the side of the body but not able to get that second lift up on it and the timeout called whereas the last three points have gone the way of china since the technical time out it is now 11 4. okay and working on how they're going to start to tackle this block while china have got a three-man front court option and ding coming in from a back court setting position the number 13. he's been able to dictate the plate because japan haven't been able to get the attacks with enough ferocity or enough power on china playing in system they've got all the options available to them there's an enforce error tanekawa get another back court attack the shoe swinging out wide and then the back attack again the second time of asking for japan on the tape another two points from the enforced timeout from japan back on the way china that's better for cato on the right-hand side first pumps around block pulling away sometimes you'll see that we've seen a few for japan doing that as the chinese attackers have tried to hit the block and wipe off it the ball sailed out court [Music] good pressure serve that's an aceh with a huge top spin serve there when you're down 513 from the service line he's gone his shoulder all the way through it same time not enough top spin on that one the second referee just having a word with the head coach from japan about where he's allowed to stand on the court off the block by china oh the windmill [Applause] what a point has a little pose so you see this from minikawa oh i think of beauty look at that shot even has we're about to get his hand around the back of the ball getting the top spin on it [Music] [Applause] fantastic point 7 14. hidaka comes on to serve drops that ball into the net it's a 52 year old for japan one of three players in their 50s competing out there 2020 paralympic games here in tokyo for japan [Applause] and then on the right hand side minikawa almost little pose for the camera there we see the shoe shoot on defensive duties the corners wide open for the number four [Applause] goes back to the service line the big swing goes long looking for the hand of the block there poker faced from the number 11. no mistake though this time from the top scorer from the chinese team in lily we go to the technical time out japan down they're not out they're fighting hard and keeping this game alive but at the minute it is 16 9 in favor of china and china leading by one set to nil okay thank you [Applause] hey team spirit isn't lost for the japanese men's team i know they're under the pressure there he laid the top scorer at four china on the ball on the service line [Applause] [Music] [Applause] the setter dink give me the ball back let me have another go [Music] but it is experience of tanaka that left hand off the hands of gao and out of play [Music] [Applause] what's up truckers had to defend well in that fire position from the attacks off wang and then he's now showing the experience he's got this time for the cheeky little wipe off [Music] again getting the better of gao i'm not getting the full press on his block making it slightly easier she needs to push bend those wrists over the ball [Applause] referee saying the ball was down oh disheartened only got underneath it if his hands weren't flat underneath it be pretty hard to do so gal goes for the angle errors just start to creep in here from the team on the right hand side in red and they're down and they're only up by two points japan have clawed this back it's five in a row [Applause] japan call for a timeout now 14-16 technical time out it was 69 china a few errors great work by tanaka at the net with a wipe off twice of gao can japan maintain this momentum they've got both had a timeout each had both technical timeouts have been completed now just two points in it japan on a roll at the moment five in a row there he goes zhang number 11. he's had a couple of those errors on those five points makes amendments motionless as he goes back to the service line and then enforced error causing an ace for china 43 year old back to serve [Music] okay [Applause] a couple of points in a row this time for china forcing that japan to call for a timeout five points the difference now 19 at 14. [Music] last few points has just been the error free work from china they haven't made the mistakes this time like we were doing before [Music] and into gels and drinks taking on liquids taking on four team from japan the host nation here in tokyo what a venue this is for this city volleyball competition in the makahari messe hall all the team behind the scenes the volunteers the organization committee doing an amazing job put this event on trying to get the next point back from the timeout with the wipe off the block goes off the hands of tanaka 2014 now five points needed for china to take the second set but japan not giving up but too much for tazawa he has his lift on his body first referee saw that she had the best view for china [Music] 33 year old departs ding the number nine the youngest players on the team for china just 22. could block in full two-man block captain it's mainly tanaka he's already celebrating he knew what was going on there [Music] the game on the front court ding gets the wide set out to left-hand side i'm sure it is this time off the fingers [Music] [Applause] three points required now and i'll be looking to close this point gap and they deal with a beautiful line shot by cato went one-on-one ding was out wide left the line open for him cut his hand across the body lovely technique by cato [Music] again goes cross court tanaka is at the front end of all these big attacks in that five defensive position he hasn't shied away though he's got his body behind every single ball servicer for the young player who's just come on for a couple of points 17 23 then two points required for china japan will be looking to get another couple of points first time defense was good but wang at the net this time sorry wong at the net this time number three goes to the left-hand side changes up its angle free ball comes in giving seven set points for the people's republic of china backward attack from the captain net touch given against lee lay one set point saved [Music] [Applause] three three attackers front court there's things in there is the back court set up off the hands and just out of play to secure the second set it took a while for that ball to come in edwards watching it just landing wide so the second set finishes 25 18 much more improved play by japan it is the people's people's republic of china leading by two sets still here 25 14 25 18. cato getting up on the point scores for japan and minakawa has five points the game for himself again still china higher up on the digs which means they're doing much more work defensively and it means japan aren't getting as many attacks in as we see 10 from 35 instead of 16 from 33 for china china's attacking options have been a little bit more successful in this game but japan much more improved than the first set a lot of pressure on china and lead for part of the way there oh [Applause] [Applause] [Music] oh [Applause] [Music] [Applause] uh [Music] [Music] the team's continuing to start as they did in the first set of teams making a couple of substitutions through the game china remaining their strongest lineup going into the third set here leading by two 25-14 25-18 maybe china's gonna get us underway [Applause] this point goes into the net on the server but japan can't take advantage of that free point given to them as the captain that serves into the net a lot of fine margins in city volleyball where the serve goes too close to the net as they can block it dangerous for your team goes back to serve the number 11 steely focus to his eyes [Applause] using your head his head was in the right place there and then kato just a little chicken wing or she couldn't get the ball over on that third touch japan giving it everything oh good hustle [Applause] to attack the block is too strong from the captain [Applause] 34 year old [Applause] fourth paralympic com competition for the captain alongside some of his teammates and then we've got others making their debut here for china [Applause] lifting given on the plot [Applause] [Music] [Applause] shoot she was really looking for that hand on that one he gets another opportunity [Music] again another swing put his hand up to his captain sorry [Music] team chooses to go back court to zhang as the option rare smile from the number 11. [Music] this time japan get a block on wong but then they can't do anything about the tip down the line from shoot and height advantage of shoot dipping over the block inside the court nothing japan could do about that [Applause] eyeball out wide to four really pushing his shoulders and wrapping his hand over the ball with an ace again he's had a couple of those in this competition and a couple in this game as well [Applause] 28 year old [Music] oh it's two in a row this one's a beauty down the line what a great serve that was see this angle one was less stranded they've come up really close to the three meter line on this defense if it is deep they've got to take it high on their hands and now lifting against gao and this game goes into technical time out the last three points go in the way of japan they lead here at eight five okay well japanese bench the much happier of the two [Music] [Applause] that's par for the course they lead by three here in this third set with three aces in this game the last two have been back-to-back aces oh he's done it again that's a beautiful serve straight down the line again [Music] [Applause] i think the captain just settling himself down getting the team back motivated young 28 year old in comparison to some of his teammates really putting on a showcase of how to serve trying to get the ball back as the ball just hits the antenna off the block it took a lot of pressure to change that serve and get it over to china japan are we looking to get back in this again [Music] not giving japan the opportunity out y through four through the hands of the block of minakawa he knew as soon as that happened chicken wing off the block delivers that ball expertly from a setting perspective japan not getting an attack underway giving china an opportunity again it is the power through four from lee lay a 30 year old you're in the end just the movement of the ball meant mini coward couldn't keep getting across to the y position so left up one on one that just opens the court out [Applause] one quick reaction to the net but too much on it see his left hand just clipping the tape turned away celebrating hopefully nobody will notice unfortunately that's what the referee is there for shiro comes on here the 46 year old makes his first appearance in the game [Applause] just when japan thought we've got china on the ropes upstep shoot that height advantage over the captain of japan just pops the ball back into the center of the court china back within one point [Music] make that they are now level with that a serve from the left-hand side floats that ball dropping short [Music] this time yanagi tries to tip the ball down the line but momentum on his hand pushing the ball wide [Applause] focus now he's determined not to let japan back in this one now they've got the lead 11 10. okay [Music] [Applause] loving the timeout chance keeping the spirit going keeping it alive for japan they're only down by one it's these points here in the middle of the set they can just make or break the game for them [Applause] just hang out wide using the block [Music] with the big swing oh great pick up by chen lou from the libros perspective and then the ball goes wide clip of the aerial great hustle for china you see a full stretch [Applause] point goes the way of japan a lot more attacks coming in that rally from china but the hit was wide off the sideline [Applause] this time the server is also wide on the left-hand side you get those opportunities you need to take them otherwise china will capitalize that's what they're doing there that ace powerful serve across the court from wong it really has a bright star at the age of 30 in this game [Applause] boys just come in thick and fast now the way of the people's republic of china and we go to the technical time out and it is the team from china leading by five points now i just feel a little bit more comfy has even started to smile the number 11. it's 16 11. thank you of the team from china poker face when they get on court very motivating very driven to deliver the performance their third seventh place finish in the paralympic games in the last three the highest finish was fifth in beijing there was a shoes stats 11 for 21 one ace to his name [Applause] [Music] this time yeah it's a swing on the right hand side nice work by ding a rare unforced error from le lake it makes amends for it straight away [Music] 17 13 now another run of points for japan if they are take this game into an extra set pressure on china on their attacks but doing some extra work defensively they can't kill it on the attacks and why not just block it first time [Music] chicken wing from wong and the shoe from shoe wasn't enough 14 17 now this is where japan look to get a couple of points on their serve china just siding out [Music] [Applause] showing all those years of experience and wisdom [Applause] this time gal gets the touch off the block on the middle attack a touch there great flexibility and agility on the defense right tanaka in a serving run i don't quite get the ace there can they win the point back over on two they do that's a great point for japan there he is again all smiles in minukawa [Applause] [Music] goes down the line that's where he had those two aces back to back in the last serving run china up to this time and shoot not messing around off the block i've been a coward and karen didn't quite get the press on it and finish his block the cap goes back to four jiang just drawing the moisture off the court on the serve chicken wing defense tight angle looking for the fingers [Music] could only go cross court played a bit part in the game so far and using all of their players in this competition in this game nice set out wide goes one on one [Applause] but there is a net touch given against china can't believe it 19 21 now use yourself on court smiles and giggles off court but when he gets on caught oh that's a beautiful shot down the center wong makes no mistake it's a flat set just pushed about a meter away and then one delivering the killer touch to it opportunity for japan to attack oh lovely pancake [Applause] and then wong from the right-hand side switches it up cross-court rolls this leads up to show the guns as china need two points now for victory to secure seventh place in this competition oh another pancake [Applause] reference saying the ball was down so close you can tell how the ball reacts off the hand when it went down or not time out called there's five set and match points available for china what can japan do they fought back through this set to really challenge and make china have to play their very best to see the game out [Applause] number two as he's just come on he's taking charge of the setting so he gets to dictate the play give this lineup of shoe wong zhang and lee any opportunity and they'll punish you so they've got to attack hard but the first thing you do is put this good ball in so that's just off the net good up by japan but this time lilay in the center just drops that ball short and that takes the game by 25 points to 19 and by three sets to nil finishing in seventh place here at the 2020 summer paralympic games are the people's republic of china and finishing eighth are the team of the host nations of japan china win by three sets to nil [Applause] [Music] [Music] holding up the shirts of number 15 who was injured early on and also eco who used to wear the number seven unfortunately he's no longer with us their respect to their former teammate [Applause] in their home paralympic games they put on a show they've not stopped smiling parts of that game they really put the pressure on china china had to work hard to get back into that to have their control they had the fire power all the way through but japan and they never say diet attitude and their smile on court more digs coming in towards the end for japan as they put the pressure on china it's 48 for 111 attacks 36 digs showing how much they were able to defend the attacks coming from japan there's the one at the top that counts for china and it secures them at seventh place for the third consecutive games in rio london and now in tokyo they finished seventh in the competition in a very very tough competition and tough pull they came through they had the likes of iran brazil and germany in their competition in the pool stages they had a good victory against germany they couldn't quite get the better of brazil and iran a lot of learnings taken for this team from the people's republic of china and likewise for the home nation of japan [Music] and while they finish eighth we'll be proud of their efforts three players out the 12 over the age of 50. but you wouldn't know it by the way they played on court tanaka the 54 year old the number nine was hit so many times cross court with the power shots from lee and from wong they came back fighting got the better at them at the net sometimes as well [Music] so in the final game of the competition for both these two teams in the seventh and eighth classification match at the makahari messi hall the game finished china three japan nil as both teams depart the paralympic competition at this stage japan finishing without a victory but their heads held high after their performances while china with the biggest reach they're taking on a two-time bronze medalist with eldrick the captain number one on his fifth paralympics but we've also got a couple competing in their sixth paralympics so a lot of experience in this team that got bronze medalist in rio 2016 we're here fighting for the fifth and sixth place we should get underway with the national anthems of both teams to start first the anthem of though it's germany cocaine [Music] um [Music] and now the anthem of egypt is [Music] both teams there showing the sporting spirit by going to the three meets line and applauding each other following on from the national anthems of both germany and egypt as we await the referees going to court to get this game underway it's gonna be a big battle for both teams germany with their victory against brazil in the competition while egypt had a three-nil victory against japan which saw them both finished third in their groups and they're battling now for this fifth and sixth place egypt the two-time bronze medalist i finished fourth twice germany also with good pedigree with two bronzes in 92 and 2012 finished sixth in rio will be looking to go one place higher here in tokyo egypt was standing in their way an experience and knowledge that this team in the red and black have losing to bosnia and herzegovina victorious against japan and then just going down against the russian paralympic committee team by three sets to to welcome nil officials for this match our first referee from korea kim jong-un the first referee on the far side will be calling the plays [Applause] the crawfish eight will be on the near post closest to the camera on the side of the court and looking after the teams and the substitutions her job to be looking for any net touches and also any lifts [Applause] primarily setters we should see how they set up they've gone set up with the big arm of dominic albrecht [Applause] 47 year old in his fifth paralympics [Applause] making his debut colorful character flamboyant in exactions [Applause] wearing the red shirt and torben sphere the 14 for the lineup for germany and attend the head coach for the team here looking to get one place higher than rio coming in by his team stuff [Applause] the captain on his fifth paralympics we're number one abdallah 47 year old in his sixth paralympics second paralympics here look here on the second one um the number 12 is actually making his debut here in the paralympics at the age of 42. where number 10 that shirt is the libro for egypt so it is egypt taking on germany in this fifth and sixth would have been aiming for a medal okay so close to these semi-finals but this the last opportunity to end with a victory it is germany versus egypt egypt to serve first in the first set through number nine al musa so we're here with this game in egypt against germany in the immense classification of the fifth and sixth place of the sitting volleyball competition here in the tokyo 2020 summer paralympic games the first point goes the way of egypt but the error from the german attack toddler into the block and the block of doing the job the combination [Applause] of abdul zaid and abdulkir sorry the number 12 making his debut that wasn't the 25 year old from germany that was the debutante for egypt tomlu gets a tight angle shot it's a really high reach in the snap another one late in their career making their debut in the paralympics i'll break scorers for germany in this competition [Applause] the ball gets a touch off the block goes back to to the outside again but get a touch power [Applause] just a little touch on solomon egypt get a chance to come back then germany now attack that ball push deep by sullivan both teams are just looking to settle into some rhythm routine the experience of the captain of egypt just ask him to calm down settle it down tommy this time from the right hand side well just going on to the antenna on this right hand side so with a lot of the action so far that's expected big power hitters for germany in albrecht and luke the defense by avalzade [Music] stick that right arm out and nice finish by solomon [Music] [Applause] defensive specialist backcourt is not able to set or attack the ball inside the three meter line error for albrecht as he gets underway on his attacks he's got 52 attacks to his name in this competition so far [Music] the highest in the german squad by nearly 20 points good use of the ball by jurgen strat fifth time competing in the paralympics now just leaning away to his left hand side letting that ball cut across good experience nice blocking germany get the chance now over on two lifting given against the block of germany they had a couple of opportunities there as that free ball came in [Applause] egypt have a two-point advantage 7-5 out he goes wide it was a huge block but lifting given against abdallah goes back into received position they'll come in then to attack through four he takes the first ball he moves inside quick play for egypt nice combination play moving to the fourth position coming in the middle we go to the technical timeout egypt leading by two here in this fifth and sixth place classification match in the first set is [Music] protein is making their way back onto court in this game neither team fully in flow yet [Music] [Applause] getting the swing down the line see that set nice and wide using the hands gets the deflection off the block down the line albert one of the key drivers for this german team that overpass but germany can't take advantage [Applause] open spice taking the set down the reverse his lifting given but there was a kill attack as well it was a quick attack down the center for admiral dade quick hands at the net for egypt [Applause] [Music] [Applause] through the left-hand side off base off power just roll the ball into the center of the court made it look so easy i'm expecting that set to go out wide again a huge block he might be making his debut in the paralympics start this game that abdul zaid is having played a small part in the competition so far with nine points to his name [Music] [Applause] held ball against germany egypt just getting ahead [Music] and staying ahead just slowly extending the lead musa is serving [Applause] on the left-hand side in that four position uses that hand here see his hands reaching across to the right-hand side so just giving him an option to use those hands there's a serve long gonna put the pressure on the serve here's on the different one of the key differences in the game compared to standing volleyball is that you're allowed to block the serve we're gonna see the team's jostling for position underneath the net the legs can go underneath the net and touch the bottom of the net it's the top of the net that the referee referee will be watching it's a nice turn in the center both isn't hal a 46 year old knew what he was going to do only had the one man on him that's what these teams are going to do they're going to look to move this ball across the width of the court and open up some options for this defense well read by solomon saw that ball coming over i think he saw it fought the set to decide he was going to do it [Applause] spread the ball out wide to the right hand side just gets trapped in the stomach on the defense at six squeezing through the block block always pulling away just as tom lee was swinging [Applause] once the defense have set themselves in that position i do need that lock to hold its hold its shape hold his form egypt just looking to get that ball back and a huge backward swing from albrecht traffic was playing the ball from four just to his player behind him as long as he strikes the ball behind the line on his torso behind the line it's everything's okay left hand swing by abdallah on his sixth paralympics he's there on those two finish fourth finishes sydney and beijing the bronze medals in athens and in rio lovely work and down the right hand side goes down the line just waits for that ball to drift across his body seeing where the block goes nice line open levels the game at 14 all here in this first set set wide for abdallah on the left hand but lifting given against the block [Music] egypt will be looking to go into the technical time out 16 14 up they've got to defend first of all as germany will get the chance first chance to attack in the rally nice ball in they get a touch off the hands huge swing from dominic albrecht when he connects with it that ball stays connected that's gone with power just gets a touch off the block and then the deflection from the captain as we go to the technical timeout germany leading by one point in this close first set in this game who's going to finish in the fifth or sixth classification of the paralympics his slight advantage to germany 16-15 foreign both coaches with lots to say germany the better on the attacks 16 sorry 13 from 25 6 for 21 on the point scored for egypt that's another huge line swing the big number six he just waits and then turns that shoulder gets his hand behind the ball oh delicate abdomen more opt-in for power just sees the block oh straight just uses the hands nicely clever plate [Music] [Applause] just reads the game so well that ball was set inside we've seen albrecht hit that ball nice and wide down the line the ball coming inside this time i was always being slight advantage to the blocker overpass they're giving albert the option but they blocked it now he did have the option to go out wide [Applause] good hustle tight at the net it was there for both teams to win that point [Applause] 1817 [Applause] hold against the captain so with that two-point gap now built up germany gonna call for a timeout just to see if they can stop this run of points for egypt teams have more than two points clear in this first set so far a couple of chances in those last few points for germany they just weren't able to turn them in two points on the board also due to the fact of excellent defense by egypt especially off the deflection of the block electricity captain wearing the number one shirt doing extremely well having that one position how did germany respond here [Music] in the center and he's in the center he's got them no the choice is where to go there was a three-man block use the hands of musa it wasn't a powerful shot it didn't need to be just use the hands well jamie get back one point [Applause] [Music] he's responded straight away by moussa altaid another reverse set ton lu taking the cross court leaving the line open takes that with ease makes his way back to the service line [Music] point goes the way of germany it was a wipe off the block by tom luke also lifting called by the second referee on the egyptian block expect a lot of the action to go through the shoulder arm off the 44 year old experience bench for egypt and two of the two of the 12 are making their debut in the paralympics [Music] only one player under the age of 32. [Applause] off-page shot by the captain beautifully played that was the experience for you just so calm on the court doesn't need to follow through just takes the power of the ball dropping it in the center catching tunnel off guard clever clever plate [Music] is [Applause] germany got bronze in 2012 in london tough pulls matches in the eight teams competing in this competition germany faced having china in the team but also brazil and the isla islamic republic of iran well the egypt's poor group they had japan and they also had the russian paralympic committee and bosnia has convenient in that pool a all matches were won by three sets to nil whether you're victorious or on the losing side just two points of difference trap looking to go down the line lifting called by the first referee on the far side of the court [Applause] they're still up but only up by one race to 25 points germany looking not just to use the power but place the ball saw trap in the last point trying to push that ball deep down the line so many options to play such a fast pace as well this team from egypt so experienced all members of the team in the 40s that are on court at the moment for egypt the captain goes straight in [Applause] cleveland 22 22. went straight into the hands that's why his shoulders go as well red block chance for germany now oh good pick up by albrecht three options at the front for egypt and they squeeze the ball somehow through the block [Applause] follow and byzantine just passing the ball into the bottom of the net couldn't get enough lift on it four-time back to do the service duties is his team leading by [Applause] or was leading by 23-22 it's a real tough ask a crucial time when you've been on the bench to come in [Music] martin vogel now coming on the 49 year old he's going to do the same thing coming on to serve [Music] one of three setters who are on the court now for germany they can all attack as well [Applause] talk about setters that going to attack [Applause] well does control a lot of the game he's being positioned as an outside hitter and that swing on the right-hand side gives the captain chance to serve his team into the first set one point in it though 24-23 but the block comes back from abdullah and touches the german player on the way out and that closes out onto this first set and what a set he has been they're fighting fifth fifth and sixth place very evilly matched but it is egypt the edge ahead 25 that game ebbed and flowed both ways let's look at the highlights and the stats so egypt gained the advantage on the blocks and then we see more digs for germany which means egypt not getting enough kill attacks but then it was also a lot of errors came in for germany they gave away eight points on errors and when you've got a set that's as close as two points at the end 25 23 it's those errors that germany are going to look to soften the blow as they can take it to the team that finished fourth and sixth in the world championships in 2014 and 2018 in egypt let's have a look at the highlights of the first set [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] brute force and power on both of these teams put some quick plays as well fastballs over intelligent reading of the game sees egypt take the first set 25 23 on massaging duties for his teammates the stats are on the screen up high in the makaha messe hall abdallah top scorer with six points for egypt and that big man there number six albrecht top scorer for germany with seven points from 18. and it will be the number six for germany who's going to get us underway here in the second set due to covered regulations their teams are staying on the same side throughout this game instead of changing ends as they would do normally germany starting as they finished egypt oh i said they serve oh it's just wide [Applause] egypt thought that ball had just clipped the line there's no challenge process or hawkeye here at the paralympics outside the ball must have just missed the line fast attack down the center one-handed set but drifts over and that's easy pickings for solomon germany needs to be more efficient than that that's just a free point for ahmed solomon oh great defense [Applause] line shot coming down first time over don't care playing that beautifully how much have you done it [Music] all this time squeeze through the block by jurgen shrap goes cross court all deflecting off the middle blocker oh it's an a serve that ball going high the head of adel zade doesn't get its fingers all the way around the back of the ball somebody with us usain bolt pose on the serve the ace unless they get this ball over oh fantastic work oh but the captain from egypt is having none of it wipes off we've got hard work for germany i'm just doing kippy up he's to keep the ball in play the captain from egypt swinging that ball down the right hand side off the block egypt lead by four three just using the hands nicely the outside and of abdallah was there for him and the ball slightly off the net he can't necessarily attack the ball steep so he just uses his hands to his advantage moussa comes in the center lovely set even with a three-man block he's got options where to go you see him favoring to move that ball through the gap and he does get between the captain and trap on the block it's a little gap in the block he spotted it [Applause] with a monster block turning those hands into court to any deflection that ball's going to come back in lifting on the block but the ball was already on its way into the seating area off the deflection that big swing from fast attack down the center for abdul zaid [Applause] [Music] the fight is on here for this point oh i got the hands off the block from moosa what a rally just the left hand of straight fantastic defense early on by germany no nonsense by the big number six as it moves back into the middle of the court taking the line away from him just making it easy pickings for the hand there's that block on the serve she only just a little bit lost there as we go into the technical timeout both schwei and albrecht parting leaving that gap open to me to you process and there's now egypt leading by two points in the technical timeout eight six in the second set and by one set to nil [Music] here we go [Applause] so germany are by no means out of this game and out of this set right down by two i'm so there three out of eight attacks that one big block the big swing tunnel is now front court for germany they've got tonley and albrecht there now so options to go left or right and they go to the right hand side there's a huge swing inside of the block just finds there's a little gap in the seam comes off the left hand of adel say but because there's a gap in the block falls into the middle of the court oh what it's oh i thought that ball was an a serve then a lion judge just lifted the flag of the last moment so fast his action on the server doing well to bring the ball back in now they've got a chance lifting called on the block [Applause] solomon i'm not sure how he says i only moved my arms the referee saying torso coming off the floor nice swing out wide on the right hand side goes high to the fingers of the block capital here defensive line for germany well kept up by egypt oh over on two clever [Applause] again smart plate off the head off the egyptian captain couldn't go straight in the line he was last time because that's where solomon got his single kill block from just went to the angle [Music] substitution for germany now vogel coming on straight back on to serve and it is returned with interest pulled tight too tight to the net and electric pops the ball straight back down easy point for egypt and tough task to come on the serve on when you're cold and you've got a team who's going to put pressure both at the net and defensively it's a high defensive line here for germany anything coming up they'll take us a volley [Applause] solomon when you got three men attack on the blocker it's hard to get all the way across once you've committed to that middle and that's what the set is looking to do for germany is break up that double blocking partnership oh there's the hands from abdullah and solomon [Music] just go with one hand nice combination left hand of solomon the right hand of abdullah it's a great partnership no block this time [Music] the latif just in the middle of the court and the white shirt on was the target straight into his chest just got his hands to it pull away like that it's easy pickings for germany held ball call carrying that ball across his arm trying to lift it up [Music] little time to maneuver he makes up for that abdullah does as he goes back to serve taking on this the serve of tormund schweit popping the ball straight back down got such a tall strong squad and he can block the serve so well like egypt do [Applause] makes extra hard for germany to put the service pressure on [Applause] line the captain gets the wipe off also a lifting call on the block just pushing extra high to try and get that extra inch or so on the block seven from 17 attacks francis tonle comes back on court for vogel who's done his job defensively back court now which way is the referee gonna call this one germany think they've played it off the egyptian hand booster says no thank you we played that off you right [Applause] just does what he does best even leaning losing a couple of inches of his height just waiting for that ball waiting for the hands all square 14 all the long serve that's the second serve for albrecht that's gone long that's almost a little bit closer to the line than that that's another error that germany are giving away they have cut the arrows down in this set and then they get the wipe off the block and the quick touch nice and halt that's the point for germany can they go into the lead into the technical timeout they can because they get another lifting call from the second referee against the block a lot of errors coming in on lifting for egypt something they're going to have to work on they've given away a few points in this set due to that they have also germany have also won those points when the referee has called up for lifting as well they're going to technical timeout with the lead for the first time it's germany 16 egypt 15. [Music] [Applause] foreign [Applause] [Applause] lots of words being spoken egyptian coach talking about the block finish on it also turn your hand inside especially when you're out wide gonna get that outside hand turned in otherwise tonley and albrecht in particular will use the hands to their advantage into swipe off captain from egypt electric just having a chat with the first referee assume this is about the lifting calls we've had quite a few of them with the action generally leading by one it's 16 15 here in the second set egypt are up by one set to nil over on two that's the frustration i really hope he's got it out his system a very rare error from a 46 year old he's led his team well for a few years shaping up to shake to hit that second ball to see if we could sell the blocker then sets it out wide to abdul qaed goes back to the service line in the back of a big swing through two [Music] accord attack by germany another opportunity for them but they can't get enough power on it so egypt looking to capitalize try to go down the middle fast but find german block the ball just lands in the middle of the court inside the net so 18 16. another wide hit from the middle [Applause] solomon number six swinging wide to the right hand side that's more errors from egypt than points won by germany since the technical time out and these points crucial at any stage in the set at this point here germany looking to close and level the game one set ball [Applause] a little bit frustrated from some of the calls from the second referee and that's just shown on the last few points hopefully they've got it all at their system now just been snatching at some of the shots germany will be looking to take advantage just asking the players to get back on court a little bit quicker tom lu is serving he goes down the line egypt with the left hand of abdullah gets the touch imported to get that first one back from the oh my timeout [Applause] roll shot over looking for the corner [Applause] defense then from the lead rope the hit was too hot to handle [Music] just gets his right hand to it he's quite high up in his defensive position there [Music] could switch up a play for germany on the right hand side free ball coming at four germany they've got options both sides they go high and to the left and when you give that man the time on the ball in that position nine times out of ten that is the answer and the end result of it germany now lead by four as egypt called for another timeout 21-17 foreign [Applause] [Applause] you're generally just applying the pressure points coming both ways both from egypt's errors and then also because they put the pressure on egypt not able to put the ball away giving some free balls or easier options for germany to deal with better this time from musa on the left-hand side not able to get a full press over i'll just reach and angle the hands forward it just opens up the opportunity to be wiped off oh that's a huge block a monster block by abdul zaid just travelled across was left hand up and added his right hand to it straight into the line of the path of albrecht and then albert fires wide to the right-hand side so that four-point gap is closed down to a one-point gap and now germany called for a timeout because the swing and the momentum is now with egypt errors coming from german attacking sides but also good solid blocking from egypt [Applause] just having a quick chat in there with torbjorn's fight who's oh sorry strap about the way they're gonna play looking to change the combat languages up push spy on there that's a ton the captain three good setters of the ball as well as attackers they've got different ways of playing their combinations again still sticking with that high line on the defense the ball drifting wide just clipping the antenna egypt level it 21-21 they were down by four the last four points in a row have gone the way [Applause] that's a big call to make at 21-21 23 year old making his debut here he's only scored one point in this competition so far and he had a brief appearance nice play by the german captain that ball was coming over the net he just turned popped it inside the block of capitals eight clever plate but this time moosa gets the attack in the center finds the hands out of the plate trading point for point okay supporting from the sidelines win this point for egypt he gets the opportunity the ball goes down the center [Applause] [Music] abdul [Applause] that's on the side again number 12. [Applause] just moves the ball so well around the court egypt called for a total sorry germany call for a timeout with egypt having a slight advantage here one point though as they go to the closing stages of this second set 23-22 both teams using their time-ups substitution germany outcomes the singer goes back replaced by number six germany 22 attacks 12 kills from the big number six there's been those last few on the point they've got egypt back into this that's a big swing to come back for egypt oh well done germany oh and then it's the big man who gets the wipe off what point that was egypt should never be able to get that ball back from when they did and then last second pancake keeping the ball alive for germany 26 year old comes on to serve whoever wins this next point will have set point 23 23. this is going to the wire substitution egypt it's a big blocker coming on now attacker when needed germany needs to defend to start with they do oh there he is francis tonalu out wide on the left-hand side gives germany their first set point in this game what a set this has been 24 23 [Applause] the celebration he had a quick look to see was that ball coming over or not abdul zaid has saved the set point with a huge block he's been a blocking machine for egypt headline comes back on set saved [Music] [Music] the block wasn't there for him this time tonight luke just demolishes that ball deep to the left-hand side second set point for germany can they put the pressure on the serve here albrecht does get his serving this time and it's a shutout block passenger it is the man at the net who gets his third block of the game closes the set [Music] captain not happy with something having a chat to the referee possibly about lifting because he's their team has been called for a few times but germany take the second set to level the game 26-24 it is one set apiece the stats eight blocks for egypt in that game ten digs the one ace for germany there's been a few more errors for germany again giving away six errors in the game six points in the game through errors wow egypt and you're giving away three a closely fought game against two very experienced teams fine margins um [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] yes [Applause] well we are in for a cracker we said that at the start these two teams very evenly matched both with bronze medals in the past paralympic games fighting out for a fifth and sixth place that shows you the quality of the competition these two teams are here just missing out in the semi-finals egypt takes the first set 25-23 germany took the second 26-24 [Applause] we'll check on these teams lined up if there's any changes egypt's gonna be starting us off with the serve i'm sure it'll be with the ball on the line to get us underway [Applause] slightly rotation with the same lineups third where's that set just slightly off the net gives him the opportunity to swing his hand through it and there we see after they couldn't quite close the gap as admiral k had gone quite wide to take the line option out clever plate oh what a block what a block so cool and calm about it he's done that thousands of times good pressure serve and then the attack down the middle by solomon now controlling what you can control taking care of business on your side like they do there that serve too short the captain just just plays that ball over the hands off which way he has the height advantage there into the middle of the court makes it look so easy such a difficult skill to master and then the swing just finds the line line judge painting placing her flag straight down hopeful lifting their hands up to signify the ball has gone out [Applause] goes for the big serve and it's a big a serve this time he had a couple of those as errors in the second set but there's that top spin hitting the tape as well just bouncing over the shoulder down the line he goes down the line again [Applause] combination of blocking net goes against him [Music] so the egyptian captain back to serve quick in the middle but no touch on the block or masental it's another error on the points for germany which means egypt level up for all great blocking all three getting in position holding firm i know that his favorite position to go is to let the ball come across him and just follow through with his arm and swing to the left-hand side comes on for setting duty so he's been used mainly as a serving sub bring him on this time now just to give the captain a rest in his second paralympic games the 49 year old will be working alongside his team to get him back into this point [Applause] referee not having that hell ball it's a challenge when they're defending so tied to that three meter line and they're taking it either in their hands high or low just to release the ball quickly better this time big hands a lot of celebration [Applause] abdullah almost started celebrating until that ball drifted out then tunnel just gave it the pose clever over on two but well read by germany okay that point they're not all about power precision and placement but well-read [Applause] having to reach back as far as he could as that ball was dropping in on the baseline pocket defense [Music] couldn't handle it the second time round from solomon straight up and cross court high on its fight [Music] [Applause] he'll be furious with that that was right into the pocket to ab for abdul zaid nothing said i could do about that they had a massive opportunity as well to level the game at seven all but we go to technical timeout eight six [Applause] foreign yeah foreign reactions by moosa to keep that ball alive and then the error forced by egypt germany in long scrap 26 year old making this second paralympic games here following on from rio that's his first touch of the net left hand option out wide [Applause] sees his first attack at the net blocked and the referee's just going to call over asking was that on the antenna from the hit or from the block to determine which way it's going to go if it was on from the attack then the point goes to egypt it looks like on the attack there well they've given it the way of germany they're not using any replays as just they're going by their reactions the point gets back to egypt [Music] so three points the gap now 10 7 for egypt in this third set we're all square at one set all it's the best of five sets these two teams competing for who will get fifth and sixth place at the tokyo 2020 paralympic games okay teams just missing out on the qualification process for the semi-finals and some very tough matches in their pool groups big teams to play again [Music] health ball at the net on that jowl so referee just signals with two thumbs that we're gonna play elect [Applause] help ball against germany there point goes the way for egypt jeffrey deeming that held that ball too long that's just pushing the ball over from germany foreign so the changes to the team for germany looking just to kind of settle in with each other taking on one of the most experienced teams in world para volley another big block but lifting called on the block moussa frustrated the captain again chatting to both the first and the second referee another ball jousted at the net so let's called [Music] a little bit deeper [Music] absolutely gets the kill through the left-hand side that four position [Applause] will be comfortable with that five-point lead how they utilize this now to start to edge away on their serve they can gain a couple of points oh it's a huge block [Applause] it's gonna sting [Applause] huge block that's it shake it off those cross-court shots hasn't had the the width on the ball to be able to play it down the line like he plays it there off the pace then he goes down the line this time the point substitution egypt outcomes number eight for egypt so 914 the score my last point going away big german swing on the attack opportunity now for germany park it up the captain down the line delivers [Applause] and so he played a couple of points in that second set little pokey of the fingers there and then his first attack is blocked by abdulkir right hand that's what the coach was talking about earlier about finishing that block and turn that hand in we mentioned it on commentary earlier in the second set when you're reaching out wide you've got to get that outside hand turned into any line shot they attempt it's going to bounce back into court we go to the technical timeout and egypt have a strong lead in the third set at 9. coming in from the side from germany they're having to get slightly more on the digs the egyptian attacks haven't always been killed but what egypt did do well is they served and put pressure on got the blocks in there ten blocks is the key thing there ten kill blocks against zero to germany germany almost giving them those blocks as well that's where the setting choices and tightness it is on the ball up one set point saved for egypt all it needs is one side out for germany and we're going into a fifth set this men's fifth and sixth place classification match again this quality deserves a fifth set doesn't mean it's gonna happen oh what a great second ball look that is here couldn't quite control it what a time to pull out the second ball fantastic germany take the fourth set 25-22 we are square at two sets all we are going to fifth set decider there we see the set scores 25 23 26 24 25 18 and then 25 22 and then we are going to a deciding set a set that is a race to 15. seven blocks for germany compared to that last set of set three where it was 10 nil to egypt so germany really working on that block converting a little bit more on their attacks as well [Music] a huge set that was for german sitting volleyball the chance for fifth place is still there as it stands egypt has scored 96 points in total why germany have got 92 the important factor is two sets all deciding set a huge block at the end to give setpoint with schiffer before one-handed set and more blocking displays from egypt to start with and then albrecht just went on a run of his own and the fewer is captain hatred with solomon and abdullah on gets the touch but no touch given [Applause] the decisions going both ways a disbelief from both teams we saw it earlier for egypt a great start for egypt two-point lead in a race to 15 but then tollo just unleashes the power down the line great fearsome shot oh great set but just forced long on the left-handed attack nice fight [Applause] so blocking has been key for germany in the fourth set [Music] oh that's a great backcourt swing to the corner german efficiency at its best no block open court moosa has nothing to do he has to defend the whole court there without a block good switch from play for egypt oh the ball getting a nasty bounce off the tape [Applause] levels the game at 3-0 that could have gone either way hustle can they make it oh just incredible how has he bought that back quite rightly you should have your hands in your head there that was incredible [Music] he had no right to be able to pull that ball back right from the points for egypt germany just haven't had that response to them when they have had the attacks i've just not been able to commit to them not impossible is it definitely an uphill task put germany here [Applause] the egyptians have come out in this fifth set motivated driven wanting that fifth place here in the paralympic games and it's showing in their results so far 11-5 lovely little work in the middle we've not seen many middle attacks on the third touch for germany because of that wasn't in the position to get the block on strike 611 big point now germany needs to defend [Music] and defend they do they get another one back 7-eleven [Applause] [Music] and the buzzer sounds in the background with the two points in a row for germany egypt just want to put the pressure on them now from the service line by calling for a timeout they've still got a four-point advantage having from egypt early on as egypt got off to a blistering start and then a little bit of a comeback here for germany 7-eleven there's the wipe off that's what they wanted using the block [Applause] [Music] doesn't quite have the presence that albrecht has on the block to really push over and penetrate the attack three points required now for egypt for victory but germany are not lying down [Applause] it will not give up the cause here egypt substitution in comes number eight [Music] so hard front court oh what a swing by the captain he does get the touch he gets a touch that he requires he looks at the referee gives a thumbs up singer comes on for already what can germany do now they're down by five egypt just required two to take the game a huge monster block solid man lining next to abdulkia shutout block and it is match point six match points for egypt they've come out flying this fifth set and the error by the german swing swing of wiesenhal and it is the game 15-8 and by three sets to two finishing fifth place in the paralympics the winners are egypt what a game that was amazing sporting spirit being shown to these two teams it was the first men's game that has gone to five sets in the whole of the paralympics and what an advert that has been for sitting volleyball egypt took the first set 25-23 then germany responded 26-24 then egypt took the third set 25-18 and a solid fast performance then germany fought hard all the way to the end and squeezed the full set 25-22 at that fifth set it was like germany had given everything that fourth set in the end the fifth set went the way of egypt so egypt finished fifth in the paralympic games and germany finished in sixth [Music] what a game that has been here at the makahari messi hall 2020 tokyo summer paralympic games the experience and the know-how of egypt well 29 blocks against 13. just incredible 10 of them in one set as well which was marvelous but also the great defense work from germany 43 digs compared to 5 at 20 for egypt shows how well and how resilient the german team were in their defense but it's a one at the top that counts that number there that says three in the column of egypt and in fifth place in the paralympic games on the team in the red and black egypt coming out on top by three sets to two [Music] so germany depart disappointed with the way the game that ended in that fifth set egyptian team average age of 38. some of them with six paralympic games under their bolt that's experienced now this german squad would be happy when they look back on reflecting on the games they've had in the tough pulls they've played them and we'll take the learnings from it as they go messe hall in the city volleyball for the tokyo 2020 paralympic games and it was a blind of a game a five-set thriller egypt taking the first set 25-23 with germany then leveling at one set all 26-24 both teams with bronze medal bronze medals in the paralympics in the last four paralympics that have been gone through and it was only right that this game went all the way through to a fifth set finale with germany closing the four set 25-22 but then egypt came out fighting with their experience and their power 15-8 [Music] [Applause] you
