Marisa Tomei speaks about trusting her instincts in the film industry

Nice job in this film. Very proud of you in this film because it's just drop dead funny in the sequences that you have. You know, it's interesting when you get parts in movies for me, just watching so many films is, is you can play the part or you can just live or you can really go with the part. And uh I just saw so many other things in the time that you were on screen in this movie that a lot of people might just just play it like it's written and do it. But there's a whole another thing going on with you. What, what do you mean? What else? What's the end of that? I don't know, a lot of different things you tell me that. I, I don't know, it was your eyes you were seeing with. But I'm glad that maybe, I don't know. I'm glad though. Well, I guess a question I would ask is what's going on inside her, what's going on in her heart? What's her heart like? Oh, her heart's been in a very, my character's heart is in a very fragile place at the, even at the opening of the movie she's hanging on by a thread. Why she's hanging on by hopes and prayers and just some, something to come in and help change her life and of course something comes in but it bites her in the butt a little bit. Yeah. And, and, and, but she's, but you like her, you know, you can play those characters and not like those people or you, or you can find because I think we're all kind of a little bit like that at different times. Not completely. I hope I'm not like that completely. I know. Have you seen the film all the way through? What pleases you the most? Ah, well, I, I, in this film, I love the ending. I think the ending of the film is really smart where Helen and, and his final confrontation and, and resolution. I love that and I love his dance sequence. I do too. Yeah, I wanna, I wanna be him for one day. I wanna live in that place for one day. It's a very cool place. I wanna ask you about choices that when scripts come across or come your way and you have to make the choice of whether you can go after a part or not or whether you get the part or not? Are those always easy choices or are they always hard choices or how does that work for you? Um, well, to make a choice on a film, it's usually about how, where, what I'm feeling in my life at that time or is there something in there that I feel like I can express an add to add to the movie? Is it, is it real, is it honest? Are the people working on it? Particularly the director? Um, uh, don't, they don't take the easy way out? They're, they're honest. Not scared to be honest. Do you always trust your own instincts? Um, uh, no, I didn't say that. I trust me. I tried to, to listen to my instincts to first figure out what I'm really feeling about something and, um, sometimes it's in contrast to, um, what the people my, my agents are maybe thinking might be right for me. But luckily they, mm, they're pretty honest with me. So, are they, I always wonder about that. People just really tell you because even if it's not good, they're like, well, it's not good but you really should do it anyway. So I don't feel like I'm going nuts, like, but it's not good. Yours is really good. That's, they don't do that. Like, it's not really good but it would be good for you. And then it, then it's up to me whether I want to put myself through that or not, they don't overreact. No. Nice to see you. See you. Good part.
