[Music] King of the commute the living legend six time Maroney radio Award winner seven time Award winner Damon W and Damon ways Jr [Music] hairline I feel like my character is a is a combination of me and my younger brother it's kind of like a little amalgamation of of us and Peter Pan you know just like a guy that doesn't really want to grow up and and he has his dreams and his dreams kind of get in the way of his real life and but he he has a great a great support system and his wife and his father that kind of helped him get back on track and I think that's kind of what you're going to see is his his his Evolution um into manhood junior is trying to figure out who he is in life like what's his passion what's he going do uh and and Pap is setting his ways he's he's been doing the same thing for a long time and he's not about to change and one of the things we're going to see uh in this season is the two of them being forced to change Papa out of his comfort zone and Junior out of his so I play Nina I play junior's wife and she's kind of always reeling Junior in a little bit he's just toning him down a little bit like hey let's come back to earth and he's kind of like her third child a little bit I already have two kids running around and then there's also Junior everybody is always just at Papa's house and Junior and I live right next to Papa so we're just there Uninvited all the time okay and Doctor coming in having to deal with another one well you know the best part about it is really that he doesn't want me there you know what I mean like at least with them they they made an active decision to be partnered together uh senior had wants none of me you know but it's it's great because at the end of the day as you discover in the pilot with this character that Dr Ivy Reid is formidable she's not going anywhere she's tenacious she's going to be there but she is there because she actually has great admiration and respect for him and I think that that is something that he discovers and that's something that is the beginning of their connection the beginning of him seeing that she values him you know as much as she challenges him she's divorced so they have that in common um and she's highly accomplished and that has become the thing in which she has based her entire life and she really does believe in helping people but often times as we know when we are ministering to others we are often in need of that very same medicine so she's going to find herself challenged in mirroring what he needs to [Music] change it's kind of like me being a standup made his life kind of uncomfortable cuz during like In Living Color I couldn't go out with them like they would go to you know to Disneyland and everybody would swarm me for autographs and they would be crying like leave my daddy alone leave so I would like let them go on trips cry that much well Mikey his his brother would cry and Carl would cry they didn't understand so a lot of stuff that they did like I wasn't there I was paying for it but I I didn't want to disrupt their fun so we our fun was in the [Music] house we're doing a family sitcom with an actual family which is terrific for us and and it's not just that it's like either of these two guys would be uh uh anyone would be happy to have them star in a sitcom and we've got both of them and they're bringing their their actual real Dynamic to the show um and some of my favorite stuff in the pilot is just the two of them sort of reacting with each other sipping tea you know playing with each other because they they have a you know they have a great easy relaxed way we get along you know like brothers you know and unless I'm in trouble but usually it's like a brother Vibe and and so we just thought that this was like the perfect story to for us to uh put our talents in yeah I I mean I my one of my favorite pastimes is to text him around midnight and just make him laugh and make his wife go Damon tell your father to go to sleep sometimes he'll just call me to make me laugh and then when he gets me laughing really hard he'll just hang up on me oh my God I mean I think you just go with it it's not something you necessarily want to fight you want to fight forc to be involved in the it's a good time everybody Jo come on in the water's warm yeah you should see the writer room because we have not only Damon Senor and Damon Jr are the writers you know on the show as well uh but we also have Kim wein we have Shawn weighin we have Michael wein we have a ton of other non- weans but very funny writers the room is a blast and um and we're going to have a ton of fun on set we love it we really want to do it we used to do it on wife and kids um and we just always found it fun and I just think I think people enjoy seeing out takes and for us this show is really just about fun and entertainment we want it to be you know refreshing like a cold sip of water on a hot day we just want people to enjoy it and [Music] relax when he did Dance Flick I was very proud of him um be and then um I feel like when you came on to when you did the episode of Happy Endings Happy Endings yeah I felt like I couldn't have got him on that show if he wasn't he wasn't like semi- proud and also you brought him in you guys had some some emotional stuff to play yeah yeah yeah Happy Endings and I did the other one the other happy did you do new girl oh you did happy together yeah happy together yeah and do you remember the first time you were like that's my dad and he is the coolest I just always thought he was cool yeah was just yeah I I don't remember a time yeah [Music]
