Will Howard, Treshaun Ward, and More Enter Transfer Portal, K-State Portal Tracker

what is going on guys it is Joe back again talking about the Kansas State Wildcats and in today's video we're going to talk about the first day of the transfer portal Kate fans saw five different players hit the portal I'm going to talk through my thoughts about each player leaving what that means for the future of the program as well as kind of give you some you know some background on what I think is next what's going to happen in the future and talk through some of the 2024 stuff with the portal and what we'll see this off season quick disclaimer before I get this video you may not have seen it before I'm currently facial hairless and if it looks gross and hideous I will be back with facial hair here in the next maybe a week I got tired of having a beard so uh I decided to to get rid of it for a little bit so the facial hair will be back eventually so if I look like a 17-year-old I apologize but that is life for a little bit also want to say a quick thank you guys for for tuning into each of the weekly postgame comments videos for football for basketball with one game left I'll do a postgame comments video about the Bull game pending anything crazy happening um I just wanted to say thank you guys because it's been really cool getting to interact with each each of you throughout the season and I'll continue it going forward into baset basketball seemed like people really enjoyed that as well as some different story lines with the transfer portal because there's going to be a lot of movement I mean if today didn't teach you anything it's that this year is going to have one of the most active transfer portal classes ever I mean this is legit NFL free agency level and I know that the old the old coaches will say like well it's ruining college football I don't know about that guys I just know that there's players on the move that can help our team that can hurt our team how does the team handle this how are we going to Faire through the next couple of weeks next couple of months see how things go from there because it is a great opportunity to get new players in that can shake up the pro and change things up and address some spots that might be weaker on the team you know if you need a if you need a new safety if you need a new cornerback if you need a new quarterback you need a new running back you're able to make that change quickly as long as you can recruit somebody in so I'm all about it man I know it's it's kind of crazy to see your favorite players or certain people that you're like man that's heartbreaking to see them leave giving guys opportunities to go do what's best for them is what's going to be the biggest thing for their careers for really that's what it comes down to I mean it's just what does a person need to succeed where can they succeed at where's the best opportunity even sometimes when it hurts that it's not our school you get to see that opportunity elsewhere today we saw trewn Ward Senor running back after spending some time with Florida State coming to K State for a season hit the portal he was the first I would say arguably the biggest name of the day before obviously I'll mention this to SEC before we saw Will Howard at the portal Tran Ward was the biggest name of the day you saw Blake shape and enter I would argue that tan Ward probably is bigger name than Blake shapen but then again you know what do I know but then you get will Howard Senior quarterback finishes his career state elex to use his final year of Eligibility forego the NFL draft head on I guess nothing's confirmed yet but it is it is Will Howard's going to go elsewhere for his final year of college football test the NFL draft Waters in 2025 it's a much easier class to stand out in with you know there's like 10 dudes right now in the 2024 class that could be a first round in the first round conversation or first two round conversation I'm not saying that will can't stand out or he couldn't go to the NFL from Kansas State but the reality of the situation is you weren't going to keep both will Howard and Avery Johnson and get away with it is the best way I could say you know you're not going to be able to keep both guys on the roster and not have someone be like okay I got to go elsewhere both these guys are starting quarterbacks in college football that's the truth that's what you see that's what it is now with that you also saw a couple other quarterbacks hit the portal you saw Jake rubley go to the portal after spending some time with Manhattan obviously didn't ever see the field too much as a starter really ever I mean he came in for a couple of minutes here and there and injury relief in different moments you saw Adrien Lara as well hit the portal another guy that hasn't hasn't stepped on the field for K State but has had some you know behind the scenes work has done some good things there's a couple of people on the move as well as Shane Porter which is one that really kind of surprised me actually it's not that I didn't expect Shane Porter but um I think after watching Seth have such a good career on special teams doing the things he did I didn't expect Shane to be the next guy up and say you know what I'm out of here I I mean granted none of these guys did it in some negative intent way where they're like ah forget Kansas State hate this place you know there's issues it never was that that's never the vibe that was represented from any of these guys but Shane Porter I think was the most surprising of the five hitting the portal but I'll say this guys and I don't want to so much has been talked about lately about what is a good fan what is a bad fan you know are you a bad fan for criticizing somebody are you a good fan for supporting somebody are you you know whatever I'm not going to tell you who to be how to be how to handle yourself what to do um if I ever do I'm stupid for saying that here's the thing guys and this is something that I think is a good metaphor for all this I mean it's maybe not even a metaphor really but um the word fan is a shorten version of fanatic that's what it's short for people will have different reactions different stories different people going places different things happening you know and there's not really like you can say there's oh it's cool just to be positive support everybody all the time some people aren't wired that way some people are more on the negative pessimistic side that's okay some people are more on the crazy Optimist crazy Faith side that's okay too like I think that so much has been made of hey these people are good fans these people are bad fans guys at the end of the day I mean what works for me is being positive but I'm not saying that's right and I'm not saying to force yourself into something like that you know in my case like kind of the best approach that's worked and you've probably seen on this channel I mean I haven't been super negative much to the best of my ability but like I'm going to choose to support these Five Guys I hope they all go and have great careers and you know can mold themselves into professional athletes and continue things on and like I don't know if there's like really a right way to handle yourself but with a topic like the transfer portal I think a lot of people have this immediate like there's an immediate heartbreak or there's an immediate yeah good get rid of him or there's like a there's some type of 180 you have to feel so one way or the other about something in my case I've always tried to be more on the positive side and I'm not saying that's right for everybody I'm not saying that's the best way to handle yourself um but in my case I'm going to choose to support these guys man I hope they all have good careers I hope they all become you know great college football players in their own right you know will Howard like is already in that conversation Tre Shan Ward already in that conversation Shane Porter Jake rubley Adrien Lara have something to prove I mean they've got places to go that they can really step on the campus and get some playing time um at their own position like Shane Porter played a ton on special teams wants to be more of a receiver I assume from the decision to move but I'm going to choose to support these guys because that's kind of like that's just kind of how myo has been man you know you want to see people that you care about sece you know I hope will Howard goes to a place like Penn State or you know there were some Rumblings about Notre Dame and a couple of different places I hope he gets a year to showcase the quarterback he really is because you know he did have some roller coaster times at K State but in my mind I'm going to choose to remember him the way that like he was a great quarterback in Kansas State he won a big 12 title and that meant a lot to me he my final semester at K State you know at K State and I remember talking with Will at big media days and we had this conversation kind of saying like I thanked him and I was like dude thanks for just stepping on being ready for the challenge you know you really represented Kansas State when you could have entered the portal and you know gone elsewhere and figured something out and he's like well you know he used that same quote about how much he loves University how much he loves the people and I don't I don't take that for granted ever um but what made me happy was talking to him and he's like well man you know I told him I was like man I graduated you know the year you guys won the title in 22 in December and he's like man you get to go out on top then and it was a really funny moment just talking with him and I appreciated you know who he is as a person as a player and everything he's done for K State but that's not going to affect the fact that like he has more to prove he does you know right now I'm not saying that he's not an NFL draft quarterback or he's not a top prospect but will has so much more he can prove you know if you go to a school like Penn State obviously you're going to have some quarterback changes there Drew allay soon going early in the NFL draft I don't know what the case is I haven't really watched Penn State a ton I just know they're a solid team or place like Notre Dame they're losing Sam Hartman I don't know if that's actually going to be likely I've just heard some you know people talking about it on Twitter but I think it's important to note like these guys are leaving to get to do what's best for themselves and that's okay like it's not a selfish way it's not some bad like oh you could have done it for the these dudes gave everything they had while they could you know even people like Adrien laa people like Jake rubley where they weren't affecting the game on a weekly basis still showing up to practice you know still going to lift still doing everything they can like I don't know I I don't know if that's like the portal I think makes people feel one way or another about things I think I feel pretty level-headed about it I think I know that each of these people is headed elsewhere because that's what the next best thing is for them and that's fair you know I think that's completely fair and I know that like you know will wasn't always the favorite guy in the in the in the quarterback room obviously you had situation with Skyler early on you had will being thrust in as a freshman you had him you know playing well before he was ready then he comes in for Adrian Martinez and I think I speak for everyone was like ah this guy man he's going to be the same guy and then he goes out and he's a top 10 quarterback in the country senior year comes out struggles early had some struggles and then figured it out down the stretch you know I felt really good about the way he finished the season but in his case like I think it's understandable to say hey I got to go somewhere else Avery Johnson like this is kind of an an Alex Smith Patrick Mahomes I hate to compare both these guys because it's not really the way I want to look at it like putting the precent out there that Avery Johnson who hasn't started you know started the game as a quarterback yet you know putting that prid out there that I'm comparing him to Patrick Mahomes probably isn't the best way to go yet but I don't know man I think it's just important to note like both these guys need to be starters they need to play college football they need to be on the field and if you kept will Howard you risk losing Avery if you keep Avery you risk losing will this is expected so I don't know I don't I don't think I I look into it much more than that it's kind of a situation where what's best for the team what's best for the players see if you can get get those lined up if you can't then do what's best for the next best thing you know if you think if you hate that idea if you hate the idea of just being level like like kind of chill about it you know if you hate like it's like well I'm not supporting them they're not wearing my team's logo you know or I am supporting them going to be the you know my second favorite team do you can do whatever you want really I'm not trying to tell you who to be or how to be I'm just telling you how I feel man and I think that's kind of What Separates Me From A lot of the the kstate media people because like you know go powercat they have a ton of dudes that are great at reporting and and you know Fitz is so great at communicating to people and giving his thoughts you have so many great people in there you know you've got the three mod dudes that do another great job having a solid podcast you've got the kso guys there's so many people that cover K State that do really great things my whole goal is just just to be a fan I don't have any inside source I don't have any leg up on much else I just kind of I just kind of appreciate being along for the ride and being able to talk to you guys so we're kind of in that same boat you know we're all here because we love the university and I think a lot of times with the transfer portal like this whole video is kind of sounded like somebody died and I'm talking about like a funeral so I apologize if I sound like the most depressed dude ever I'm actually very comfortable very happy with what's happening you know this is the start of the Avery Johnson Saga the Avery Johnson era this is a bright new time in college football for Kansas State a 12 team playoff on the iing you know Kansas state has a real chance to be you know if you want to say the king's the Big 12 I don't know that I'm going to go that far because that's kind of just a lame thing to say and I've heard a lot of Utah fans saying that a lot of OSU people saying that a lot of you know Iowa State you get a lot of that I don't want to make that jump yet but you have to love the coaching staff you have to love this team you got to know what the positives are ahead and I think you're going to see that so I would just say this guys like we're going to see more names pop up on this list and there's going to be some that are going to surprise us and break our hearts a little bit and have different things like that but I just I'm so excited for the future and I know that like it's kind of a lame way to say that when you you feel like you didn't live up to expectations and there's the fans that say well now that Avery's is starting quarterback we're a 12- win Team every season we're a 10- win Team every season we got to curve our enthusiasm we are the I'm not going to go that far yet guys I just want to say this like just know how bright the future is but also know that there's going to be some give and take with that you know whether that be the portal where it's like you could legitimately see your favorite player hit the portal that's just how the world works with college football right now you you could also see that same player become the best player in college football go to the NFL draft and see all that like there's so much par in everything now with college football so it's going to be an exciting time to be a college football fan to be a Kansas State fan I mean you've got a great coaching staff you got to love you got a great team you got to love and we're going to see a lot this transfer portal you're going to see a lot this cycle a lot of different things that happen the transfer portal gives and the transfer portal takes away right now we're going to see a lot of guys get taken away give it a week give it a month give it two months you will see some of that start to pay dividends here in the future but be sure in stay tuned in we've got a lot to discuss here in the near future I hope you guys have enjoyed the video despite it being kind of a maybe not a somber tone but just you know kind of a good buy almost of these players so it's been good having them in the University I'll remember all of them with positive you know positive thoughts I'm going to cheer on all five of these guys as they go to their next teams and what happens next and just support them so I will keep you updated on who enters
