Kelly Stafford chooses mental health over attending Rams opener following Detroit booing incident as the NFL season kicks off Kelly Stafford wife of Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford has made a significant decision regarding her attendance at the team season opener instead of cheering from the stands Kelly has opted to watch the game from the comfort of her home prioritizing her mental health after a challenging experience in Detroit Kelly recently revealed her decision during an episode of her podcast the morning after which she co-hosts with Hank Winchester the choice stems from an incident earlier this year when Kelly and her four young daughters were booed by fans at Ford Field during the Rams wildcard loss to the Detroit Lions the event marked Kelly's first return to the stadium since her husband's trade from the liance to the Rams in 2021 following his 12 season tenure with Detroit recalling the January playoff game Kelly expressed mixed emotions while she appreciated the atmosphere and the passion of Detroit fans the negative reception towards her family left a lasting impact the city wants to win and everything is fair game Kelly said at the time except the fans who booed my children other than that I love the atmosphere and the booing just gave my husband more fire despite the love and memories Kelly holds for Detroit the emotional toll of the experience has influenced her decision to stay home I think it's the better decision for my mental health and for my daughters Kelly explained on her podcast she also mentioned the that her daughters who are 7-year-old twin Sawyer and Chandler 6-year-old Hunter and 4-year-old Tyler expressed their preference not to return to Detroit for the game. Kelly's decision was also Guided by her desire to avoid putting her husband in a difficult position she acknowledged that Matthew would not want to see her upset or distracted by the potential for another negative experience my husband doesn't want to have to hear me be ug upset not that I think I would be because I also grew in that experience too she noted that as Kelly prepares to watch the game from home she reflected on the Bittersweet nature of the situation while she cherishes the positive memories from her time in Detroit she also recognizes the importance of protecting her mental well-being and maintaining a positive outlook do in addition to her decision to skip the game Kelly will be in Detroit for another reason she and Winchester are launching their cleat chaser tour with the first stop scheduled in Detroit on September 7th the tour will conclude in New York on December 21st allowing Kelly to reconnect with in a more controlled and positive environment ultimately Kelly's Choice highlights the importance of prioritizing mental health even in the face of beloved traditions and memories her story serves as a reminder that sometimes the best way to cherish the past is to make decisions that ensure a healthier and happier future
