Will Karen Read Civil Suit Spell The End For Karen Read? -WEEK IN REVIEW

this is hidden killer week in review a look back at the most prolific stories of the week every smile hides a secret and some of them are deadly welcome to Hidden Killers with Tony brusi featuring retired FBI special agent and chief of The Counter Intelligence behavioral analysis program Robin Drake Karen Reed's going back to court in January for a retrial at least that's the plan right now but between now and then a civil case has now been filed uh from the family of Jon O'Keefe they've filed a comprehensive wrongful death lawsuit against Karen Reed along with two establishments CF McCarthy's and the waterfall Bar and Grill the lawsuit alleges that Karen Reed who was in a uh deteriorating relationship with o'keef struck and killed him with her SUV after a night of heavy drinking at the defendant of the bars on January 29th of 2022 the suit also claims that the bars negligently served Reed multiple alcoholic drinks despite her ible intoxication and allowed her to leave while impaired it also alleges that after hitting O'Keefe Reed left him outside in a snowstorm leading to his death from hypothermia and blood force trauma the OE family also accuses Reed of not only causing the death through Reckless Behavior but also attempting as we get crazy with it or interesting covering it up by her actions by fabricating a false narrative the family seeking damages for O'Keefe's wrongful death emotional distress suffered by their family members and punitive damages against both Reed and the establishments involved uh good for them uh at this point yeah because yeah she yeah she went with this narrative I think that's the one of the biggest parts of this it wasn't just letting sleeping dogs lie or taking responsibility for your actions that you think you might have committed it was just throwing everybody under the bus as well and going truth be damned I don't care what it is I don't know if I know or not but I'm going to ruin all your lives too not a good uh not a good look yeah I this one is ringing very true to me just because during the entire time I just kept thinking about the parents and the and the family that lost someone yeah and because of drunken a drunken night of debauchery and then they're holding people accountable for a death and it's not cops versus her or anything else this is a family looking to try to do something to be made whole and holding people accountable to the for the loss of their son you know the the elements of it in there you know that's what'll come down you know for you know whether she actually hit him or didn't hit him I think we're going to see the same source of evidence on that but I think there's going to be some accountability here for her and what her role in it as well as the bars in rooll in this and every and maybe everyone else's because there's a lot of things that could have gone better that would have prevented this from happening at least that and I'll say it could have prevented this from happening that night M um because this is one of those things when we start dealing with really unhealthy people that have really unhealthy relationships it's a Tinder Box and whether that Tinder Box goes off tonight or a week from now unless something gets in there to kind of shift that trajectory is most likely going to go off yeah well when you have the environments too where I can I can probably guess uh I can't guarantee I probably guess that most of these bars never face any sort of repercussions for over serving and I'm guessing it probably happens pretty much all the time um and and that's just kind of how business is done I grew up in Wisconsin another very heavy drinking State and uh that too another place where it's just regular basis it's just this is how business is done this is how people live their lives until something like this happens and then suddenly oh well you shouldn't have been doing that now should you have yeah and I agree and that's why it's going to come it's I think it's an eye opener for a lot of people and it's an eye opener for that town it's an eye opener for those bars and at the bottom line you know let's hope the family gets what they they feel they need and someone asked me this the other day if I you know what my thoughts on the different penalties whether it's death penalty life in prison things like that and it it and my answer wasn't it's it's same thing here it doesn't matter what I think what matters is the justice system should be set up to make whole to people that lost MH you know so so whatever people think you know did or didn't happen between her and the other cops and framing it doesn't matter to me it what matters is is the family that lost someone you know that's what needs to be made whole here and so hopefully this will go in a in a way that the family feels that justice has been done for them and they're not asking for a specific dollar amount which I think makes the lawsuit even more genuine uh where it's not a money grab by any means it's they're asking the court you tell us what you think we deserve out of all this the compensatory damage is uh resulting from O'Keefe's death uh include damages for his uh conscious pain and suffering fear of impending death lost earnings medical expenses funeral and burial expenses as well as lost value of Life which encompasses the Lost of society companionship Comfort guidance councel net income Services assistance protection care and uh advice to his next of Ken you also punitive damages in there emotional distress and the other interests uh and costs which I can imagine will add up uh quite uh half uh at the end of the day here uh but these are all true statements I mean and and many things that didn't have to happen it was all about how this was handled after the fact I'm not saying she had to raise her hand and say I did it even though she did that uh and then claims that that's not how I meant it um but it didn't have to go down this road where she's a celebrity and and enticed these morons out there to just go off these deep ends and grass people and make life hell for the o'keef family and their friends now was there some shady police work going on here I don't know maybe but um at the end of the day a lot of these people that suffered had nothing to do with those decisions right you know what I like about this too is I mean all the wording it's just well worded yeah this suit is very well worded in my mind as opposed to when we look at the charges that were against her from the very get-go I was like I didn't like the charges I didn't like the phraseology I didn't like what the what they're saying the motive was and and and the defendant's motive none of those things and I think I think the way that was worded is what really fueled the fire of we vers they and which made this thing so inflammatory and defensive I mean so think about this if the civil suit had come and that and and the and the legal one didn't and the Civil s came like this worded like this do you think it would have had the same notoriety as it did you would think uh and there's many many cases where criminally someone may be F I mean OJ for example uh someone may be found not guilty or it may be a hung jury and then civil they're they're held responsible uh where it's a completely different verdict so we could see that over here this also opens up rules of Discovery and and all different things which are a bit different for a civil case so this thing is still far from over because this unless she's gonna be in some way or other she will be held accountable you know whether I know her R trial uh it will go down and you know cuz the dismissal got dismissed yeah yeah um denied but so regardless of the criminal trial
