UPSET ALERT: How Arkansas Football Can Get It Done vs Oklahoma State? | Arkansas Razorbacks Football

welcome back to another episode of rock boys football one of the more fascinating week 2 matchups that I think you see in all college football at least in my opinion this Arkansas program heading on the road to play Oklahoma State now you look at this Oklahoma State team getting a lot of offseason buzz and for a really good reason right this is an Oklahoma State team that one has one of the best players in all of college football in running back Ali Gordon a team that just played for a big 12 championship in 2023 and turns pretty much the whole roster Mike Gundy phenomenal head coach there's a lot of reasons to like this Oklahoma State team and quite frankly I like this Oklahoma State team that being said you look at this Arkansas program I think a lot of people at least in my opinion just kind of writing this Arkansas Team off in 2024 because they were for lack of better terms not good in 2023 you bring in Bobby patrino take over this offense one of the more underrated and underappreciated offseason hires that you saw in all of college football you're bringing a quarterback in ton green who yes has been a little bit of a roller coaster during his time at Boise State but we know this kid can play at an extremely high level if he does reach that ceiling I think a relatively solid defense with some Playmakers around tail and green this Arkansas team is a lot more fascinating to me than I think a lot of people in National media and I think we're going to find out what this Arkansas team is about in 2024 quite frankly I think they got a good chance at going on the road and having an opportunity to get this one done want to get into how Arkansas might go about doing that now before we doing as always most importantly you know let it fly in the comments section whether you're an Arkansas fan whether you're an Oklahoma State fan we previewed this game a little bit earlier in the week it was a ton of feedback a ton of ball talk in the comments section this is going to be an elite environment a really fun football game let's get into how Arkansas gets this one done and I want to start there's two things on this Arkansas defense that you really have to get done one is obviously stopping Ali Gordon which is much easier said than done and we're going to get to kind of how Arkansas might go about doing that but I think another really underrated storyline in this football game is heating up Alan Bowman and I think Arkansas has the pass rush to do it this pass rush last year was really dang good I don't think enough people talked about it because the Arkansas offense was so bad this Arkansas Team can get after the passer obviously most notably a guy like Landon Jackson who I think might be not only one of the best Edge rushers in the SEC but I think one of the better Edge rushers in the country why is getting after Alan Bowman such a massive story line for Arkansas you look at Alan Bowman and say he's really historically this a seventh year quarterback and there's a lot of data on him he's historically struggled when he's been under pressure last year had a 60% completion percentage but when he was heated up when he was under pressure that number dropped at 32% one of the lowest in all college football you look at Alan Bowman and say he's a quarterback that one I think's a really solid quarterback but he wants to process get the football out early accurately and on time he doesn't really want to do much extending the play so if you're Arkansas you can start running some games up front you can potentially bring a little bit of pressure and try to get Alan Bowman off the spot because historically you know Alan Bowman has not been very good with Muddy Pockets when he's been under pressure and you don't really need to worry about Alan Bowman getting outside the pocket and extending place because that's just not what he does a lot of times defenses are kind of afraid of getting after quarterbacks because of what quarterbacks can do with their legs getting outside the pocket it's not really something you have to worry about with Alan Bowman all that much now by far the big key to this football game is how to stop Ali Gordon now before we get into Ali Gordon I do want to shout out there's two really good wide receivers for Oklahoma State too Brandon Presley uh Elite with the football on his hands kind of that short intermediate route tree kind of guy and then you have a guy Rashad Owens who is Elite working vertically so if you do want to allocate Bodies In The Box to stop Ali Gordon you do have to make sure that Rashad Owens and brenon Presley are taking care of on the back end now why is Ali Gordon so important to stop for this Arkansas defense because when Ali Gordon has good games Oklahoma State normally wins football games Oklahoma state only lost four football games last year three of which was when Ali Gordon went for less than a 100 yards and he only went for less than 100 yards in like five games last year and so when this Oklahoma State team is operating on offense like they should it's because oi Gordon is playing a massive role within this Oklahoma State offense now again it's not necessarily just load the box and stop Ali Gordon which I do think Arkansas will do plenty of because you do have to be responsible for some you know wide receivers that can make things happen vertically down the field but if you're looking at how you want to go on the road and win this football game at least in my opinion it's make Allen Bowman beat you and you have some guys like Braxton who I think can kind of hang on an island on the edge and so I would like to see Arkansas do really two things one heat up Alan Bowman more importantly stop Ali Gordon if you can do that and try to force Alan Bowman to beat you vertically down the field with these wide receivers that's how I'd rather lose this football game than let nly Gordon go for 150 yards and so that's kind of the two keys for this Arkansas defense to have success in Still Water going to the offensive side of the football Oklahoma state is a tricky defense they play a a lot of soft Zone coverage and kind of make offenses methodically work their way down the football field and what happens with a lot of quarterbacks they try to do a little bit too much and that's when Oklahoma State's defense makes you pay and they force turnovers I think the biggest thing for tail and green in this matchup is just take what's there you don't have to be a superhero within this Arkansas offense if you were just going five six yards chunk plays working your way methodically down the football field and being patient you can have success against this Oklahoma State defense but if you try to do too much Oklahoma state they're going to make you pay in the back end and so I think that's the number one thing and obviously that's the biggest storyline with t and green as in general is hey T and green Big Time arm Big Time athleticism obviously a BigTime body was turning the football over and too loose with the football during his time at Boise State so I think turnovers and tailing green keeping the ball out of Harmon's way and just playing within the offense and taking what's there is absolutely massive and then I think the second question is how do you get T and green comfortable early on the road and this is why I think the Bobby patrino effect is so big the Bobby patrino is a mastermind at dialing up an offense that fits what his quarterbacks want to do and so you look at T and green what can you do one let him use his legs this is a guy that wants to be an athlete it's one of the best skill sets that he brings to this Arkansas offense give him a run game to work off which a Quinn and Jackson Oklahoma State doesn't load the box too often I think Arkansas should be able to have some success efficiently running the football staying out of those third and long situations especially with ton green back there as well and then finally get him outside the pocket again I think you got to lean into what tailon green does best where he's most comfortable as a quarterback and that is running the football getting outside the pocket throwing on the run and so I think that's the last big storyline like if T and green can play Within the offense if he can get to things that make him comfortable as a quarterback I think ton green could be a really good football player for Arkansas Bobby Patrina just got to make sure that ton green gets comfortable quickly because Oklahoma State Still Water boom picking St boom picking Stadium it ain't a place that you want to have your quarterback be uncomfortable and so if they can get ton green comfortable have t and green take what's there not try to do too much in this offense I think Arkansas puts them in a really good spot to win this football game I think the three key numbers you're looking at is one Ali Gordon like what is he doing on turnover battle and tailing green keeping the ball out of Harm's Way and I think finally how much pressure can he get on Allen Bowman if you can do those three things I think Arkansas has got a really good shot at at winning this football game and I think from a Personnel standpoint they got a shot at doing that stuff I think the front seven is pretty damn good Landon Jackson as good as he is as a pass rusher is also an elite guy in the Run game you take a look at last year's numbers 23 run stops for an average depth to Target a one average depth to tackle of 1.2 yards Len Jackson's a force
