today what time is it it's game time and it's almost game time for the Philadelphia Eagles they're headed down to Brazil to take on the Green Bay Packers this Friday night to kick off the 2024 season and you know when you look at the Packers like this is a young team but they're dangerous they are very good they almost made it to the NFC champ ship last year as a seven seed beat the Dallas Cowboys had San Francisco on the ropes it was a close fourth quarter I think there are some players on both sides that could really take over the game I think there's like four to five players I'm looking at saying the eagles need to stop that guy from Wrecking this ball game and I bet you they're all young athletic quick ball players well here I have my four I I pulled it up on a graphic here so number one is obviously Jordan love number two for me is Christian Watson number three is Kenny Clark and then number four is Josh Jacobs for a number of different reasons but like those are my four guys that I'm saying we have to find a way to limit that those players on each side of the ball for me I'm clumping all of those wide receivers together because the way that Green Bay is going to go about it they don't have one true Alpha in the room let's say they're like four really solid guys yeah they're a very committee heavy approach where you're going to see Davi and Wicks get some play in the underated we talk about yest get some play in the air you're going to see even Bo Melton as part of that rotation as like the sixth guy right but you're talking about a team with two really good tight ends in the past game too I just lumped them all together but if you had to pick one to isolate I think that deep threat nature of Christian Watson that's why I picked him the Home Run hitting ability if he gets behind you all of the sudden you're saying did we have a breakdown in coverage are we Comm communicating correctly if so why is this guy behind us in a Vic fanjo Ben don't break type of Defense where it really limits those big plays and they want everything to kind of happen underneath and that's why Josh Jacobs in this equation I put as the true number one for Green Bay because one he played for the Raiders the last couple years like let's be honest it was him it was Devonte Adams and that's about it now you're talking about six seven guys that you really have to worry about and Josh Jacobs by his own right is a very good runner but what he can do in the pass game that's where he's the scariest Raiders never used him that way Green Bay is going to no 100% in Matt laf flor's offense you have to be able to do that I mean if you saw what Aaron Jones did the last couple years for them that's exactly the way they want to use Josh Jacobs they paid him in that manner for that reason much like the eagles with saquon Barkley this offense is going to run through him because if they can get him going in the Run game like we talked about yesterday do you have to bring on an additional linebacker which then opens up the pass game because then you're playing with two backers instead of playing these five and six defensive back heavy sets where you have to take away the pass game and that just get goes into the Avalanche of what could happen and it all stems from dominating the middle of the field and the one guy who could really start that right off the bat is Josh Jacobs totally agree and you look at the Eagles year the first half of the year it was such a jackal and height it's the the run defense is the perfect representation of what last year was the first half of the year they're maybe the best run defense in the league then Jordan Davis Jaylen Carter all those guys kind of fall off a cliff all the injuries at linebacker and they were one of the worst running defenses in football down the stretch and it really did change things so I totally agree there's already so many weapons for Jordan love to Target like a Christian Watson who I'm wondering how he's going to do against Isaiah Rogers when that is the matchup because Watson loves that double move Rogers sometimes bites but he has the speed to keep with him and if they get Jacobs going and can start Rock in some play action which Leaf Flur loves to do Jordan love is very good in that area it could really change the game so that's why I said obviously Jordan love but Watson and Jacobs are those two weapons out of all of them because there's a lot even our guy Marshon Lloyd's there rb2 heading into this game Jacobs and Watson are the two players they got to find a way to live it I'll also be intrigued to see how they use Jordan love in the Run game as well because if you're going to have to account for that that gives you a whole another sort of headache to worry about but the Eagles have to be ready for that because that's the nature of the NFL right like you have Jaylen Herz on your side who destroys teams because of what he can do with his legs as well as his arm well Jordan love he threw for a boatload of touchdowns last year he's athletic he can get outside the pocket how are they going to use that read game to maybe isolate one of these backers on an island kind of let the edge players slow play it a little bit to their advantage but let's flip the ball Lou I think you're right with Kenny Clark like him to me I would say him and rwn Gary like they're a 1 a 1B type of pass rusher where Clark is that true three Tech plays between the guard plays between the center is going to be somebody that causes Havoc that you're going to double team well then on an island you're going to be going against ran Gary a lot of the time and Lucas van n and a lot of these young pass rushers that they've brought in Andi Preston Smith so if you could take Kenny Clark out of the game and then you win your one-on-ones on an island which the Eagles at tackle love to do with Lane Johnson and Jordan myada that's probably where you're going to have success which will allow you to either do what you want in the Run game and then hopefully do what you want in the pass game where my number one player that you have to find a way to either one not throw his way or get a matchup with a bigger player like AJ Brown Jer Alexander he is the Wild Card he's the one that one bad throw one mistime throw you put it on his back shoulder when you're supposed to lead him Jer Alexander is going to be the guy to make a play for them yeah he'll probably end up I think lining up in the slot a lot against Devonte Smith they do use him inside over the years in Green Bay I think Devonte will get a lot of slot looks of course Jan doson 2 is going to be on the inside on Friday night but yeah alander is a good one to mention I I specifically pointed out Clark on defense just because it's one of the few mismatches I think that Green Bay has the advantage in I don't want to say cam Jurgens and McKai beckon are going to struggle but Kenny Clark versus Jurgens and beckton that might be like the one area Green Bay could have an advantage at least for the first game and we were talking about that on yesterday's show that the communication is going to have to be key for cam Jurgens and maai beckton and then all of a sudden you talk about what is halfly the new defensive coordinator going to present because you have no tape on him you have to go back to Boston College he's an attacking kind of guy I mean so they he's a more 43 type of Base guy he's going to allow his defensive backs to kind of play free we'll see Jim Schwarz kind of if jier Alexander does Shadow I've talked to a couple of my Packers friends and they said that if anybody is going to do it Halle would be the one in the last couple years to allow him to so if that's the case I think they Shadow AJ Brown and then it's like all right let's pick our match up and go from there but you can't do anything unless you prevent that AAP pressure from Kenny Clark like that's where it all stems from and if I'm Green Bay I line them up between maai beckon and cam Jurgens all game long because you know Landon Dickerson he's one of the best in the league you want to get him on the new combination there that's what any good defensive coordinator is going to want to do and I think you're right on like that's one area where it could be a mismatch right away way and if the Eagles can't Dent that interior and do what they want to do in the Run game well then Green Bay can sit back relax kind of play their hand in the past game they also have Xavier McKenna too who they signed in for agency the Eagles are close to getting a deal done with McKenna Green Bay offered a more very similar to 2022 when Baltimore won up the Eagles for Marcus Williams uh McKenna was almost a bird and that that's a good player too that'll probably match up at times against Dallas SCD and yeah overall like green Bas defense is very similar to the offense a lot of good young players that just I don't want to say are household names yet across the league for other fans but they're players to keep an eye out for I I think you made a good point with like that Jim Schwarz defense where it's like not one guy is going to be like the the big name type of defensive player but he's going to do really good with a a rotation type of element I think that's where Green Bay is and bringing in halfly that I think that's a great move over what they've had the last couple years and it's going to be a challenge man and like how do the coordinators respond you talk about game records are your coaches going to get in their own way because they did not properly set this team up to go against Matt laf flor's offense or defensive coordinator that you really don't have much information on all right you know as we start with of course qb1 Jaylen Herz talk about some over unders and I think this is a big one because of his play style how much is he going to run versus past years he is a lot healthier but Kell Moore's offense is definitely a pass first kind of unit he has not eclipsed yet 4,000 yards thought he would have got there last year before the collapse do you think Jaylen Herz does surpass past 4,000 yards in 2024 as you were leading into this discussion I was thinking I have to just continue to hammer home Jaylen Herz is going to be a 4,000 yard passer until it hits because I don't want to be on the wrong side of History I don't want to be saying oh you can pick hairs and he might get like 39 36 and like come close but this is the most support that any Eagles quarterback is head in the 21st century bar nun with saquan if everybody's fully healthy being Dallas GD in that tight end room with the Pro Bowl perennial caliber of his wide receivers and the addition of Jan Dodson give me the 4,000 yards we're gonna be on the right side of History he's been knocking on the door man 3,858 last year1 yeah I I think he's gonna hit it this year it's like being at the roulette table and it's like the number that touches the number you want I always play number 24 it's my lucky number it's like 23 hits three times in a row 25 hits like I can't walk away when 24 hits like I have to be on the table and that's kind of what it feels like with that 4,000 yards for Jaylen Herz so when it comes to passing touchdowns and I agree I would take the over I think this is the year he gets to 4,000 passing yards do you think he'll have over 25 passing touchdowns this is something that Jaylen Herz has never done but you also got to look at his rushing touchdown totals 15 last year 13 the year before 10 in 2021 so that takes away a lot of it I don't want to say the tush push is going to be gone this year Gino but I will think with saquon Barkley there Kell Moore is more creativity with pre snap Motion in the Red Zone I think they will use Herz and the entire offense trying to score in many ways and he had 23 passing touchdowns last year I I'm comfortable saying he'll have over 25 I think he is less in The Rush game more in the pass game I think some of those rushing touchdowns are probably going to turn into short checkdowns to sh saquon Barkley exactly where DeAndre Swift didn't hit home in that element for you last year and no disrespect to DeAndre Swift but Sequon Barkley is a different cat did if you listen to Nick sani's press conference today he said there was a moment in yesterday's practice where saquon Barkley just made a move that I'm sure your wildest imagination could probably drum up and he did like the mik the situation from Jersey Shore put his sunglasses down and looked at the other coaches and said do you guys see what just happened and yeah that's what's going to happen like it's going to be an easy check down and somebody's got Sequon Barkley out in the flat and then boom he like hits a hesi on him and then all of a sudden he marches into the end zone yeah I say 29 is probably think 35 Plus I still think he'll have seven to 10 rushing touchdown should be a good number to Target I would say 30 because like then you're taking away a lot of the interceptions that he had last year too which are probably going to cash for more touchdowns so I say closer to 30 but I'll say like 28 and a half is a good over under for Jaylen Herz yeah so last year he had what 38 touchdowns total he had 15 rushing 23 passing I'd say he's got about like 27 28 passing touchdowns and then about seven to 10 rushing touchdowns I think it's it's not going to be a substantial difference like he'll still be used heavily especially in the Red Zone with his legs but I think there'll it'll go down a little bit rushing touchdown and the passing will increase by a bit so I'm with you on that as well over on 4,000 passing yards over on 25 passing touchdowns I set the over under for rushing touchdowns at that double digit Mark at 10 I want to say under but I almost want to say it's like even like 9 to 10 is is what I'm banking on I'll say a little bit under though I think he gets eight I think the Sequon marle element is just something that we haven't seen with Jaylen Herz here in Philadelphia like we know tush push is so successful but are they going to kind of change things up in that regard are they going to run plays off of it the guy that's going to get the ball off of those plays probably is going to be saquon Barkley and it'll probably hurt Jaylen Herz in terms of fantasy for those of you who are on that take him in the second or third round yeah but when it comes to the overall output of an NFL quarterback and where you want him to be close to 5,000 allpurpose yards each and every year we want him to hit the over on that 4,000 passing yards but hey if he gets the 5,000 with 1250 on the ground L and then like 3750 in the air wouldn't be shocked if he gets 35 touchdowns total wouldn't be shocked as well because that's what you paid him for if you're expecting anything less then you have to have a legitimate discussion about is this guy the guy but I think we're far removed from that conversation and closer to where can his ceiling really get to agreed let's do some saquon Barkley over under so his career high in total scrimmage yards was his rookie season actually 2018 it was 228 yard was just an absolute monster the over under on that I'd probably say with so many miles toino it's it's probably under yeah you would have to believe so I would say like 1,800 yards is probably a good number for him if you split it 900 each let's say 1,200 rushing 7 800 in the air you're talking close to that number but like you said there's a lot of guys on this offense Wasing yards what do you think would be the number for him yeah so DeAndre Swift Last year had 1,49 my Sanders in 2022 had 1269 I'd say he's probably in the middle of that and then he's closer to probably his 2019 receiving totals which was 52 catches for 438 I think that's more of the stat line that I'm aiming like around 1,200 rushing yards and then I'd say over 400 receiving probably the 16,700 scrimmage yard range definitely so and I would say 1150 I wouldn't be shocked if he passed my sanders number but I think he goes a little bit higher than DeAndre Swift There were some times when both of those guys that we had mentioned left a little bit of meat on the bone where sequan Barkley probably would uh clean up the scraps a little bit more and you have to take that into account but at the same time I think his yards per reception goes up blou I think that's going to be one thing where you look at that 52 catches for 400 some odd yards let's say he can average like eight and a half to 10 yards a reception let's say like 500 yards in the air for I was G say I think the I'd take the over on the 438 from 2019 I'll say he probably has under 50 catches but I'm agreeing with you I think there's going to be more vertical shots with Barkley wheel routes getting him in space screen passes I think will be a lot more effective this year so I'd probably say a little bit under on the 52 catches from his second year in New York but I agree with you I think I would take the over on 438 42 and a half catches I'll set at the over under I think that's Watkins quz in 2022 was the fourth Target he had 33 catches for 354 and he wasn't very effective like I can totally see saquan getting 35 to 45 catches and surpassing 440 because you're going to have to talk about the times he's lined up in the slot and the time they send him on these seam routes and a Texas Choice route where if he just gets one guy in space he's going to get 10 yards per reception and a better offensive line to run behind two maybe that is worth 250 yards on the ground like who really knows he's never played behind a an offensive line this good but in total 1750 overall I think is a good number for him from scrimmage but if he goes past that that's why you paid him to be that offensive weapon for you sure I'll take that last one for you who leads the Eagles in receptions and then receiving yards Devonte leads a team in the interceptions AG AJ Brown leads the team the same page there I totally agree I think it's going to be very reminiscent to 2022 where Devonte led the team in catches but Brown's still your go-to guy in the vertical game Brown will still end up 13 plus 100 receiving yards when it comes to touchdowns I think it's going to be closer with the overall field that I don't think AJ Brown is like five to six touchdowns ahead of anybody on no Brown and Smith have always been close they're always both in that seven to eight six to eight range and they normally end up pretty even there but I think GD will get more this year than he did last year if he's healthy he's the one to watch out for the passing touchdowns to saquin that's going to be one where you can probably watch a little bit more to see how that evens things out with the wide receivers say total touchdown like let's remove Jaylen Herz oh yeah take saquan on total touchdowns you have to there's nobody else that you could legitimately pick but Devonte Smith I think he's going to average probably close to like 12 and a half yards of reception and he's Kell Morris CD lamb or he's going to find Space he's going to sit there he's probably going to have three guys over the top of him and then he's just going to sit in that shell get the ball go down stay healthy live to see another play then when we continue to hit these hole shots then we open it up downfield to AJ Brown and just let this thing loose but at the same time Kell Moore is going to get these guys in space so they're all going to have opportunities to make their own plays and make their own touchdowns like remember Deshawn jaon back in the day where you just give him that ball on a quick little bubble and he could take that thing to the house you have that caliber you just got to move the guys around you can't just keep your chest pieces in place and Ken Moore is going to give these guys a huge bump for all you fantasy sickos out there like I don't know which Eagles to pick but pick them because they're gonna score yeah defensive stat predictions where you know I don't know I have no idea who's going to emerge as the alpha it feels like a strength and numbers kind of team you know lower lorer than in years past but a pretty high ceiling with Bryce Huff coming in Josh sweat trying to rebound Nolan Smith have no idea what we're getting in year two same with Jordan Davis and Milton Williams Jaylen Carter who's the guy that leads the Eagles and sacks I don't think it'll be a huge gap between most of those names I mentioned but who is the number one guy I want to counter and ask another question before we get to the summation here yeah do you think anybody has over 10 sacks for the Eagles individualistically I'll say one does would probably if I had to bet I would say no but I will I would bet one and I actually think it's going to be Josh sweat surprisingly I think jayen Carter demand a lot of you're with me you're hammering down you've been saying that for years you said this guy is going to just continue to show out and be that guy and hit his ceiling Double Down Lou like take the core to Goat too yeah I I think when you look at it and again I think if I had to bet I would say nobody gets to 10 but I think maybe one will just squeeze in 10 or 11 and I think it's sweat because Bryce Huff I still don't know I think sweat's going to play more than Huff I think Jaylen Carter is going to command those double teams Nolan Smith I just right now I'm very skeptical of still I got to see him won the regular season finally hits let's see where he's at so I would say sweat and the end of 2022 the first half of 2023 that's a 10 plus sack guy I want to just hope that last year at the second half of the Year everybody was struggling they were all shot mentally and physically and sweat will get back to who he was 2022 first half of last year so I'll say sweat leads the team in sacks and I think one guy will push close to 10 I don't think anybody's getting a Hassan reck number this year but I think one should get there I hope Josh sweat if we were going to BET right now would have to be the guy we say probably leads the team and Bryce Huff is right behind him obviously right close and if you said Carter too I I'd get it I just think Carter is the guy everybody's paying attention to Bryce Huff the thing with him you still have to see if he's a full three down player which could hinder some of his value of getting to the quarterback Josh sweat the way that Vic fanjo is going to use him I don't think he's ever going to be standing up in coverage like that's a good point too he's not GNA be that stand up guy his will always be to get the quarterback know yeah he's going to have his hand in the dirt whether it's trying to plug a gap at the B Gap Defender as like a four ey where he's playing over the tackle and then he's got to have a he's going to spill that play to the outside so the linebackers can clean it up or if he's got to get over the top of the tackle and get to the quarterback he can do that but he's going to be given these two-way goes where Lou if you look what he did in college at Florida State that's kind of where he played as more like a true three four type of player where he played as like a two gapping style Defender he's never not going to be on the field like yeah they're going to rotate these guys but if you're talking about is he a one down player is he a two down player no this guy is a three down player which is fighting for a contract extension by the way he doesn't have a deal pass this year Hammer home Josh sweat being the guy to go out there contract's a good point I didn't even think of that yeah if he has 10 sacks and like 15 tackles for law man like you're extending him all day long and he's got to still youngo no I totally agree this isn't a Brandon Graham on his last year like this is and that's another thing Brandon Graham's also going to be you know Vic angio said yesterday he's not on a pitch count this year but BG is going to be that fourth or fifth guy with jayx hunt 4 a 4B so I think sweat's the best bet it's kind of tough again it's a by committee approach this year but I'd say it's probably number I almost said 94 I forgot he's number 19 which maybe that should take away from it a little bit but I don't think so I I like I kind of like that number for a pass rusher okay we both agree with Josh sweat who leads the Eagles in interceptions I think it's going to be quinan Mitchell but there's a couple good answers you could have for this chony another six he's I had the graphic ready what he did in 2022 should just be in your memory that should be the number that you should want to hit and why close probably more of a heart pick than a head pick but quinan almost got a pick on his first drive in the preseason as fanjo said he's going to play almost every down but so will cgj so these are probably our two Best Bets slay if he can get back to the season he had when he was just down Justin Jefferson and he's fully healthy like he just goes bananas that could be somebody that threatens that type of four to five interception range but man R do it because he's just feeding off of the great plays of other people I mean maybe say Sydney Brown like if he could be that poach type of safety on like the of lot things like one of those single High guys yeah yeah he let's say he's playing like eyes to the football always MH who's going to be the guy that could cover the most range to get to the football well it's Sydney Brown the guy he's a rocket ship like that's the way he plays and that's missing four games why I didn't put him in there but yeah but the guy that can make those crazy like contort your body play back to the football while you're chasing this corner route and you have no idea where the ball is but you could just look up and make a play on it that's johy Gardner Johnson man like I'll take him all day long but quinan Mitchell he might be the biggest recipient of having a great defensive back group around him that he's on the third fourth guy through the progressions and the quarterback is under a lot of pressure and he thinks he can hit his third guy and quinan just undercuts a lot of footballs who's to say that he doesn't have three four interceptions in his first year and with so many good players maybe nobody hits that six interception Mark but their total is much higher than it was I think there's going be a bunch of guys that have like three to four it has to be higher than it was last year because you were just not in good field position Time After Time After Time After Time 2022 that's what helped you win a lot of those games so you have to get back to that all right Joo final question who leads the Eagles in tackles and again this stat doesn't mean much A lot of the time right but let's just say I don't know maybe just overall like the highest the guy that's most involved the second and third level of this defense like on every play he's he's always there I think oh man this this is a tough one because if Reed blanket chip was ready to go and like he plays every single not Reed blanket chip excuse me Cooper de Jee if Cooper deene was ready to go and could play every single down he's going to be in a position where in the pass game he's around the ball in the Run game they're going to ask him to F fill in the crease and the alley you can make that argument for him the run the linebackers I think it's going to be too much of a rotation to like why I said blank ship actually for the same logic you said Cooper deene that's why I put I had Devon white originally but I think blanky Chip's always going to be on the field I think it's probably Reed yeah he has that role that I was talking about with Cooper Dee just now locked up like he's the starter to to take it and run and until Cooper dein is a full non-sub packag player where you could trust him for more than one or two downs let's say Reed Bach chip has been trusted and he should be trusted I keep going back to guys that played important minutes in the Super Bowl for you that are under the radar we were talking about Patrick Johnson for the longest time blanket chip like I know he's not your top-of-the-line star safety but that's not what he's going to be asked to be in this Vic fanjo type of world like they want to play with less right this stat represents like the guy that's out there the most does the Dirty Work is it's around the football relability stat and I think that's Reed yeah and he doesn't really ever get hurt and when he does he comes back pretty quickly and he hasn't been out for any extended periods of time so I'll go with Reed blanket chip and until we kind of see the linebacker position position settle in maybe you change that up but Reed is going to be around the football He he'll probably be in the discussion for the most forced fumbles as well because he's going to be all around the ball he has a knack to to make plays on it and unless Jaylen Carter like has like four or five strip sack fumbles I think Reed is gonna be that guy yeah and I could say Devon white after a week or two and feel like oh we've got the old Devon white back and we know he's going to be that every down linebacker which he's projected to be but there's still unknowns with him too on top of noobe Dean and Zack Bond rotating through this so that's why I think right now the safe bet is Reed blanket chip but I maybe in a week or two might actually want to change this to Devon but for now I'd say I'd say Reed for sure let us know what you guys think hit
