waste roll the tape game one of the NFL season lived up to the hype and came down to the final play and the final second it's the Chiefs it's the Ravens it's the kickoffs of the season it's the banner in celebration it's the pop star in the booth it's Patrick Mahomes looking for a threee this one had all the makings and Dan it began with derck Henry yeah after the officials finally got out of the way this was a nice drive by the Baltimore Ravens to see that first touch down the red zone for Derrik hry as a score and then RC Xavier Worthy is a video game I mean it's cool to get the football and just not be touched and have guys just waving at you that were on the number one defense in all the land last year exactly what he was pued that was his first NFL Touch third quarter Chiefs up three Dan what a night for Rashid rice oh in the middle of the field they got him some really good matchups in one-on-one he's got a slant there he sees that the Defenders drop down and just continues to run and then something we don't talk about enough the physical presence of this football team Kansas City tough I love the fact that Patrick gets in there about come on Dan I got him in there 10-point lead fourth quarter Baltimore needs it badly and they get it from an unlikely Source I Isaiah likely yeah that offense has stalled for outside of that first drive and likely became the guy last year when Mark Andrews was hurt he gets one-on-one Lamar gives him the opportunity to make a play little hesi touchdown Baltimore so the Chiefs get it back they're looking to make something happen RC Y is worthy this open this is just a coverage bust there's so many things that go on on the back end for the Baltimore Ravens you're adding New pieces as well we see that Xavier Worthy is a guy you need to put a safety on top of they didn't put anyone on top of yeah see I mean they just looking him that's Marlon humphy looking the wrong way thought there was help behind Chiefs a 10-point lead okay ensuing Baltimore Drive this is a third down play well first Year's Mahomes making an unbelievable play saving it himself I huge in two reasons one it's not picked off twoo the catch keeps the clock running which makes less time for the Baltimore Ravens two-minute draw on the back end I lost my place here we go third2 now Raven ensuing Drive remark this is a third down play desperately needed all night though this is what he did made made plays with his legs he was absolutely spectacular third of two weights to the very last moment and then he's going to find another opportunity scramble up in the pocket baitman down the sideline it's a big time throw by Lamar it's a fantastic full extended catch by Rashad baitman fully stretched out outstanding to go and make that play and so here we go Lamar Jackson now had almost 400 yards of total offense last night with three opportunities here's the first yeah this one is the one that you're going to regret reget Lamar because likely's completely wide open you can throw that to the front pylon middle back pylon the only place you really can't throw it is out of Bounce and that's where it goes and then you go to the Z flowers one is he throwing it to Zay is he throwing it to baitman Z sticks up his hand as he climbs the pocket that indicates to me hey I'm going to keep going there's no Defender to the right side of the end zone if he just floats that ball out there we could say miscommunication all we want a two-time MVP got to go make that throw and then here's the final play of the game Isaiah likely who was spectacular all night long in the back of the end zone he makes the catch to tie the game or does he Ryan Clark it's a toe well this is why I'm glad that I only wear 10 and a half right you can get Gucci you can get Prada all of those things fit well and your toe is never on the line when catching that football I'm off 511 I wear size 15 by just that much the Chiefs win a thriller in the opener Lamar what happened so Lamar your perspective on that uh on on Z's touchdown you said it Jameson I thought it was a touchdown I thought it was a touchdown still think it's a touchdown we're happy with the win now and he's got to wear white cleats next time that's that's my that's my advice for him okay I guess when you win you can say that it is not an understatement but that toe that half an inch could wind up deciding which team plays in the Super Bowl right the Chiefs now have a head-to-head tiebreaker with the Ravens which means any potential playoff rematch could be back in Kansas City by the way the Ravens are 1 and six in their last seven games against Kansas City they haven't won there since 2012 Lamar Jackson's performance let's start with this is there anyone at this table who disagrees with the call it it is clearly out of bounds right No One Believes it should have gone the other way okay if I let me welcome Taylor Lewan in here before we take a closer look at the sequence if someone sits here and says Lamar Jackson as good as he was most of the night blows that game because he has three or at least two great opportunities to win it at the finish and lays this wi at his feet is that fair yeah it's fair I I would take that I I the the two throws Dan that you were talking about how it's in the back of the end zone obviously you broke that down incredibly the one to Z flow is the one that bums me out the most cuz that was so he it's so open offensive lineman right 310 pounds at one point I can make that throw and that's it's a difficult thing two time MVP he's got to make that but the game of inches boys that's why we love football that's why week one going into this all fired up and this is going to have some big implications going into the playoffs like you talked about it's like the classic Lamar dilemma right they're not even in the game if not for the stuff that Lamar Jackson can do right the offensive line is obviously still putting itself together and his improvisation was so key to keeping so many drives alive but then at the end you see the limitations you see what the thing that he has just not ever been able to get perfect at so there's that toe and that's out of bounds and that's what decides the game but the reality is Dan orlovski it's should not have come to that let's go through the two plays that preceded tell us exactly what we see yeah we have to hold him accountable just like we would every other quarterback there's two missed opportunities for a guy that is a two-time MVP those are easy throws to make and I would expect him to make them n and a half out of 10 times the first one to likely when he goes to the back end zone you could throw this spot to three different or this throw to three different spots you can lead him to the front pylon you can lead him to the middle of the end zone or the back pylon the only place that that ball can't go is out of bounds the defender is not even looking and then the one to Z flowers so once Zay puts his hand up that tells me I'm going going to keep running to space he never slows down he never tries to settle and that would justify miscommunication that's just a Miss by Lamar Jackson the likely one you you wish he could get his foot down I don't have any problem with that Lamar does a great job of climbing the pocket and then he spins around he's getting blocked Chris Jones by a running back tell us you don't have to throw it perfectly he's butt booty naked wide open right and also Brian Cook who is chasing him isn't looking at the football so if anything you want to throw it short and have Brian Cook run up the back of Isaiah likely so he can body him out Lamar Jackson and I love what Dan said too this is the ju to position of who Lamar Jackson is when I watched that Baltimore Ravens team last night that team is not good on offense that team didn't have Playmakers on offense outside of Isaiah likely that's why Lamar Jackson had to go skip to Malo and H sauce right so the only reason they're in the game the only reason they have those three plays is because of him but now you have to make him how many times have we said the other team is better than the Kansas City Chiefs but Patrick Mahomes is going to win the game and how many times has he done it yeah I love Lamar Jackson I want Lamar Jackson to win all the Super Bowls you can't beat that dude and that team if you don't make that throw I don't think the game was even as close as the score personally I I think Kansas City with two Dro touchdowns easily won the game here's the thing with Lamar in the in this moment when everyone says can Lamar beat Patrick the answer right now is no but it's not just Patrick he's got to go beat the Chiefs and really it's Lamar versus spags in my opinion their defensive coordinator I was shocked that both of those plays happen and Lamar didn't hit one of them and really the hardest throw is the one that he does get into likely and it's a it's an inch away from being a tie ball game I think they go for two to try to win it anyway yeah he was try to go two so so Dan what Jackson vs. Mahomes how do we how do we sort of write the story of this moment for Lamar Jackson It Feels So eerily similar to what we have been seeing for the last few years and you could tell and they were talking about it on the broadcast right like like he wanted this so badly like the way he played this game you could tell he's still carrying the way last season ended I want to show him I can do this in the big picture does it does it hurt you like I mean the Ravens should be fine right and obviously we know the Chiefs are but but he wanted to be able to win this game so he could you know they they don't have to always say he can't beat mom see I I don't I don't sit in the world where the Ravens should be fine I don't we just think this could be very much so an issue for this football team because guys if if the Ravens are going to be good off week one okay Ravens are going to be good Lamar is going to win his third MVP that's my that's my takeaway from the game expand on that thought because Derrik Henry they do not look like they have figured out how to utilize him yet is that what you're saying thing right like the reason I think the Ravens will be fine is because they're very good at solving their problems right so like the stuff we see with the offensive line I think that will get better as they play together more I think they'll learn what they need to do to incorporate Derrick Henry more into the offense as opposed to just we want him to help us put leads away and if we don't happen to have one we're not going to use him so I think you'll see this Ravens team improve as the season goes along in some of the areas that did them in last night listen with Dereck I had the opportunity to play it there for seven years the guy is a is a bcal he's a person you have to give the ball 20 25 times a game if you want to see those numbers that we've seen from Derrick Henry for so long last night what we saw was the Ravens really in an identity crisis with offense explain that so they're in this spread a whole bunch Lamar's so so used to doing the Zone raate Derrick is so used to being under Center giving the ball he can see the line of scrimmage the entire way running that outside Zone look that Matt laflor implemented in the beginning when he came to the Tennessee Titans and so you saw a touch of it I think we saw Lamar under Center more than we ever have in the in the past couple of years but now it's like as a Ravens offense you need to figure out are you going to go the Derrick Henry route or make Derrick Henry go the Lamar route we have to figure out I totally go ahead go ahead it's Panic though right like if you're Todd monin and you're playing against the Kansas City Chiefs and you know Patrick Mahomes is over there right you've watched ju guu drop a touchdown Travis Kelce drops a football across the middle PCO misses the touchdown right you if you the Ravens you like oh hell we got to score right so when we turn around and hand it to Derrick Henry and he only gets two yards like a that might not be enough and then you give it to him again and he only gets three it's like but I got this dude playing quarterback who's so Dynamic and who can create with his legs and Justice Hill getting out of the out of the backfield is actually the best pass we've thrown all night you get impatient and we saw the same thing in the AFC Championship they come out in the second half they run the football the first two plays Justin Reed makes a big hit trp McDuffy tackles Z flowers and then he's done with it because when you have Lamar Jackson you like why am I going to keep trying to give you death by a thousand paper cuts when I can gut you one time when he can take off and get an open field you can't get him down when he can create a second play opportunity Todd monk is going to have to make a decision can he be patient yeah and that that's not going to beat Kansas City that'll beat a lot of teams but what we know right now is this is that will not beat Kansas City I agree with Taylor I think this offense is going to have to figure out who they can be and who they want to be the offensive line is going to be an issue because here's my and Taylor you you speak to this I think the offensive line matches with Derrick Henry they're big they're giant dudes they want to lean on guys and get downhill running the ball and everybody else matches with Lamar Jackson speed on the perimeter likely Z flowers and Justice Hill and so they're going to have to figure out do they want to be spread run do they want to be shrunk down run do they want to be play action do they want to be RPO they've they're going to have to figure that out and I don't think it's just going to be this simple solution if you're looking at the film today as the Ravens offensive line you obviously sit there and say boys it's not good the defensive line the defense bullied us yesterday you can easily say that but if I'm sitting here playing with Derrick Henry for as long as I did one of the little things you can do to make an early fix is just understand that you just got to give him to his fourth or fifth step when you have penetration in the line of scrimmage that's when Derrick Henry's not going to have the numbers you want to have he's going to have nights like he did last night you could also consider lining up on the line of scrimmage always a battle to do last night even though it was not called on Kansas City and all night long and yes I hear you on Twitter X everyone is saying it we all saw the same thing and it was frustrating to watch that said Dan Graziano you said to me earlier this Concerns for the Ravens week remember there have been a lot of changes in Baltimore you don't just pick up where you left off on both sides of the ball it might be a work in progress early in this season without a doubt and when I say I think they'll be fine I think they'll be fine I think they'll but I don't know that they can expect to be the one seat again if they're going to struggle to get into the whole idea of like what do we need to do on offense there big changes on defense they looked after the first drive they looked pretty good on defense last night but are they going to be able to generate a pass rush the guy whose schemes were responsible for so much of their pass rush last year is now coaching the Seahawks lot of change Baltimore and I do think you're seeing team that comes into the SE a lot of teams are like this come into the season and there's still stuff to work on you know you don't get as much time in the off season as you used to like teams a lot of teams the really good coaching staffs understand September is a time to to continue to build and put it together the other piece of it is too the team that won the Super Bowl is way better than they were last year at this time right like like this team and too defensively like they they whipped feet as Kendrick Lamar would say like they came out they did penet they der Henry the line of scage and we know that he do get going well that they did adj when Justice Hill came into the game and now they had to go to sub packages and nickels on defense and there's much more continuity in Kansas City than there is in Baltimore Matt naggie is back Steve Spagnola is back all of their players are back and you add better players offensively and so when you think about who they were playing I think that has a lot to do with the Baltimore Ravens not being as good as they were last year but let's be real bro like we don't view them on the can they be a good team prism we view them on they can they be a good enough team to make it to the Super Bowl which means you got to beat the team you played last night and that team can't beat that team because the team that they played last night always gets better so here's my concern with Baltimore and I've said this the whole offseason and week one had showed itself if we're being real and we take away the remarkable scrambles by Lamar and the a little bit of a broken play touchdown to Isaiah likely they didn't look good on offense and we can sit here and pretend and it was obvious when Justice Hill RC just mentioned it when Justice Hill was on the field you saw a little bit more of a a three down defensive front and more speed on the field when Derek Henry's on the field you saw a little bit more of a five down defensive front more backs on the more backers on the field this is a big as much is you love the addition I do think that is going to be a really big F figuring out puzzle piece for this offense and you're going to give them a couple weeks no doubt but I'm not just going to assume that they're just going to get it together while also trying to get the offensive line to play at a certain level thing right I mean it's three new starters on the offensive line like you played it like how long is that going to take that that's going to take a month or so to get together even if they're all good yeah and you have to get reps at it my fear for the the Ravens offense is that they're going to become a predictable offense on the field now you're running the ball when he comes off the field watch out it's and that is a thing that that was a big issue for the Titans I know I keep referring back to my time but it's very relevant right now because I played with Derek when Derrick's on the field you got to assume he's going to get the ball but you guys were I don't want to say you guys were predictable with Derek you guys were committed to who you were with Derek and it was like to your point when you started the show you said you got to give him his carries we in the third and fourth quarter he was going to get his is Lamar and Baltimore going to do that that's the B also too though how many games would there be trailing right like the the the situation in the game dictated you had to play that way when you're down halfway through the third you really want but their early season schedule I mean they could be trailing again and in several of these games they have coming up they have they have the Cowboys and the Bengals and yeah it's after next week their schedule does get rough for about a 3-we stretch by the Xavier Worthy shines way we've come 18 minutes and 47 seconds into the show we've not seen that Xavier worthy play enough times Cindy just roll that again I'm sorry ladies and gentlemen we talked about him all offseason long you ran the fastest 40 in the history of the combine and you said to yourself is he going to look that fast in the NFL he RC did he look that fast well I think think the one thing you saw if you watch Xavier worthy play at Texas that's what it looked like and he's actually a good football player though this isn't a track guy pretending to play football when he got around that corner and stuck his foot in the ground I knew all of y'all knew the Baltimore Ravens knew that you weren't going to lay a hand on him and just the fear of having seen that one time when you see it in the first quarter and you go oh wait that's real changes the way you call defenses it changes the way you play guys at corner right who normally say hey put me in lock they like oh oh give me some help and when you have to start doing that that opens up the rest of the offense that's why I'm sitting here thinking Andy Reid is so dang good right like he didn't ask the rookie to run a route he just gave him the ball and let him take off and now he try and stop it I said it on draft night how does Buffalo trade them the pick that lets them take that player everyone yelled at me they'd say you don't worry about that stuff on draft night he [Music]
