[Music] toes don't lie folks the Chiefs hold on in a nailbiter that came down to this to beat the Baltimore Ravens 27-2 initially Lamar Jackson throws a pass to Isaiah likeley that was ruled a touchdown in The End Zone on the final play of the game but then they go to replay review and thanks to NBC it we were able to see that Isaiah likely's foot was on the white line and it was ruled incomplete and at the time when we were live here on the channel I said that looks incomplete to me I don't think that's a catch sure enough replay agreed with me and it was overturned John Harbaugh was already sending out the offense for a two-point conversion attempt to try to go win the game then replay it otherwise the Chiefs hold on they win and they cover for those wondering uh very important to some what a night the Chiefs LED this game for most of the night the Ravens had an opening drive touchdown but other than that the chiefs were pretty much in control of this one uh Patrick Mahomes goes 20 of 28 through the air 2091 yards a touchdown one interception Mahomes had a couple of mistakes but for the most part played a pretty Sol solid game buto 15 carries 45 yards and a touchdown made some nice runs late in this game to really chip out that clock and then how about the receivers we're going to spend a lot of time talking about them rased rice 7even catches 103 yards what have we been telling you about Rashid rice folks that he had an outstanding training camp that he had a very good preseason and I felt like after a good rookie season he was ready to take that next step up be one of the upper echelon receivers he showed that tonight and then the Rook savior worthy he is worthy folks two catches 47 yards and a touchdown and also he had a 21 yard touchdown run the first score of the Season off of a wide receiver reverse so a good night for these young receivers remember everybody had written off this receiving course saying ah you know they don't have Hollywood Brown it's not a good group well Rashid rice and Xavier worthy said otherwise tonight the tail of the tape let's go over the statistics for you uh this evening the Ravens outgained the Chiefs 452 to 353 and more first downs 25 to 21 third Downs they were 50% chiefs were four of nine penalties pretty similar seven penalties for 64 yards for the Ravens six penalties for 45 yards for Kansas City time of possession the Ravens uh with 33 minutes and 43 seconds the chiefs with 26 minutes and 17 seconds on the top front but at the end of the day it's the Chiefs that hold on and get the job done and they start the season one and0 by an inch what is your one-w reaction to the chief's performance against the Baltimore Ravens my one word is toes I mean Rex Ryan had to uh we mentioned the 452 yards Lamar 26 of 41 267 yards and Lamar I've said this before and I'll say it again this is somebody that is a very good quarterback he's a hell of an athlete head over a 100 yards rushing but he's not an elite passer and he missed some open receivers there was that there was points down the stretch where the Chiefs got lucky that that uh Lamar missed some open guys that could have changed the outcome of this game at the very end they ran the ball well 32 carries 185 yards Derrik Henry was a problem for much of the night he uh had 13 carries for 46 yards and a touchdown they did turn it over once with a fumble compared to the Chiefs end of things here um 20 carries 72 yards 3.6 yards per carry uh 20 carries is a lot for an Andy Reid offense uh they tried to really establish that run we saw Carson steel out there we saw sash Pine in addition to uh Pacho out there they did have the interception from momes Mahomes we mentioned 20 of 28 281 yards time of of the things he was doing I mean he caught one of his own passes granted it ended up where they had to punt afterwards but even just the athleticism the plays that he makes there was a point in the night where I was literally saying to the chat he is him I mean we have not seen a quarterback like Patrick Mahomes and I think that as much as we admire and we adore Patrick momes there are times we still kind of take his talent for granted of what he does to this team some of the plays he makes the way that we saw him on the Run throughout the night like you're not supposed to be able to do the things he does he's just simply built different and tonight he just showed what he was made of time and time again beo 15 carries 45 yards and a touchdown I don't think the stats do justice of how well Pacho played because he ran the ball with some Authority and made some made a difference down the stretch um the touchdown run he had I I said going into the night the easiest bet of the evening was an anytime TouchDown for Peko sure enough he got it uh he ends up we mentioned 15 carries 45 yards now let's talk about the receivers um Rashid rice this guy we all know it's been an eventful off seon for Rashid rice that's no secret um but credit where credits too you may not like Rashid rice off the field and I totally understand if you if you feel that way but I think we all have to sit here and recognize that rasid rice has been able to put that stuff aside focus on football he's been a leader in the locker room he's elevated his play and with this team looking for an answer with not having Hollywood there with not having an established veteran star not a Tyreek Hill in this receiving room Rasheed rice has said I can be that guy I'm G to step up I'm going to answer the call remember this game last year week one against the Lions he shocked Everybody by how well he played his first game tonight was a whole another story ret rice it's time that we start giving him the respect that he's due he's one of the top receivers in this league and tonight he showed it Xavier worthy a round of applause a round of applause for Xavier worthy folks buckle up reach up there and pull those belts tight CU we are in for quite the ride with Xavier worthy folks um the speed is just unreal and everybody points to the speed and I feel like that's kind of easy to do but it's really more than that he's a really good route Runner all right he finds ways to get open um there was a couple blocks he had in there where it's like okay this guy isn't messing around he's a true team player the the Run he had for the rushing touchdown in addition to the receiving touchdown Chief's got a good one here folks they got a good one here in Xavier worthy and this combination along with about a couple guys for Baltimore Lamar is fantastic I mean he is and there's only so much you can do right when you face a quarterback of that Calum if I were to say who is the second best quarterback in the league it'd be hard not to say Lamar Jackson is two-time MVP and tonight he made some plays and I gotta say with him on I felt like he was on tonight with the plays he was making over 100 yards rushing close to 300 yards passing credit for the Chiefs defense when when Lamar was dialed in to still make enough plays there are certain points in American tackle football where a guy is dialed in and you still have to figure it out and the chiefs made just enough plays on night that Lamar was dialed in where you're like all right it worked out okay you know after the game what were we doing we were breathing in breathing out breathing in breathing out and that's what we saw from this this defense they gave up some plays it wasn't pretty all the time but they did just enough and sometimes like when you have an opponent that that that's good that's what it's going to take and they did just enough and then dark Henry he start out hot 13 carries 46 yards and a touchdown but the chief's defense adjusted as this game went along he only ended up with 3.5 yards per carry the way he started it LO looked like oh no this isn't good the way he's running but they made the adjustments they needed to I was surprised that the Ravens kind of went away from him that he only had 13 carats I think a lot of it had to do with the Ravens playing from behind uh for much of the second half but you made it work and sometimes it ain't pretty but whatever it takes to work out how real quick uh I say it likely all the talk about Mark Andrews and the conversation going into this season about Baltimore was that they had not used the two tight in sets well with Mark Andrews and Isaiah likeley well I would say it worked out pretty well I think they got two tight ends that are pretty dang good with Andrews and likeley likeley went off for 100 yards and one touchdown score but hey you kept him out by an inch so it could have been a lot worse how would you grade KC's performance it was by far not a perfect night but it was good enough I think you have to feel optimistic because you didn't play your best football far from it but you still found a way to win against a very good team and you got a lot of stuff to work on and now you get a few extra days off before you get that Cincinnati game I I'd give this about a B plus game but your B+ game was good enough to
