Unpredictability and Excitement: The Daytona Race all all right everybody welcome back to another edition of the teardown my name is Jeff Gluck and I'm along with my cooworker Jordan bian literally shoulder-to-shoulder here in the Daytona International Speedway Media Center uh we're talking we're GNA talk about a race we saw technically yesterday Jordan as is now uh 1:13 am in the morning as we record this uh we knew it was gon to be late night but it also turned into quite an eventful night I think uh if you're going to think of the Daytona said this time of year this was one that lived up uh to all the expectations and and a little bit more perhaps than we even bargained for but what a night what a night this is the beauty of this race and people can knock the format and you can say you can criticize Harrison Burton he's Unworthy of a playoff birth and you know that's a conversation I on the other hand say this is the beauty of this format because of here at Daytona you don't know what's gonna happen it's unpredictable it evens the playing field and you have the possibility of getting a unlikely winner who punches their playoff ticket it is a Cinderella Story it's the you know the the 12 seat over the five seat you know the 16 over the one and tonight we had that and at various times it looked like it was gonna be a John heriman or a Justin Haley or Josh Barry and ends up being beinging Harrison Burton that's incredible that's a good story and I think it's great and I think it's fun and it's why this race is so special and you know you can people will say well even if you have it at the in the mid you know Fourth of July it's the same thing you got the same drop I I I don't I don't think so I think because it it is where it is and I I know it's not the end of the regular season but it's close enough but this race where it at is special and it's one of the most anticipated and frankly exciting races of the Season year in year out because of the drama that is built in because of the playoff format I mean look everybody's gonna say wow I mean Harrison Burton is last in the point standings uh in terms of full-time drivers 34th and even after even after after the win yeah even after the still 34th he's still behind Zayn Smith in points he was fired from his ride in June he has won Top 10 before this all season and yet he's in the playoffs so of course A lot of people are gonna go oh my gosh like you said the format the format but guess what it's the same for everybody everybody knows when you start the season you probably gonna have to win your way in and there might be a couple spots left on points if you don't but you really shouldn't count on that you shouldn't Bank on that at all we've seen Trux what he was up his fourth in points or something one year uh got eliminated um because he didn't win everybody knows the game and so you can't really sit there and go oh wait a minute yeah we we want we want it to be a win andin situation where every week we tune in and it's an exciting regular season because you never know who's going to punch their ticket but not that guy not that guy that that's not right that guy no not that guy that's not exciting but like but the thing is like Harrison earned this it wasn't like he backed into this like he he's good in these races he puts themselves in good position in these races very often and at the end of the day like he outd Kyle Bush like he got the better of Kyle Bush when it mattered most and Kyle had a lot of things working for him at the end certainly has a lot of experience he's frankly a better driver than Harrison but he Harrison was better at that moment and it's why Harrison is now going to the playoffs and Kyle Bush's playoff hopes rest on him winning in Darlington I mean look it going into tonight it was like all right it's going to be about fuel savings and track position trying to get yourself in a good position for the last stop and surviving the big ones obviously two big ones took a lot of people out um and so that that narrows the field but as you said there everybody has the same opportunity right I mean it's it's it is luck to avoid the big ones in some sense but you're all going in knowing what the game is and on the last restart Kyle Bush set after afterwards hey you know what maybe I could have pulled up in front of Harrison but I didn't think I was going to get a straight push from Harrison I thought my better bet was to stick with the known quantity of Christopher Bell on the low line he's a friend you know knowing that he's more friendly driver um that would stick with him he could trust him and he thought they would he'd be able to push him to the win unfortunately for Kyle bus that lower line didn't have enough energy it kind of got disconnected a little bit and Harrison was able to steam through to the win of course then you see that he goes below the Double Y Line and for a minute you're like oh but key thing here he did not pass below the dou line if he had gone below the dou L line to improve his position that's penalty big problem um obviously they looked at it he was already ahead at that moment and you could say he got pushed down there as well um but even if you get pushed down there you can't make the winning pass I believe um below it he didn't make the winning pass he'd already that so he gets the win and that's that's the format I mean so again had Austin Dylan's win stood it would have been a similar thing because he had been what 302 in points when he won and so some of this we already had some hints of this conversation a couple weeks ago because it like how could you go from that far in your miserable season that's that's just how it is so I mean does it suck for Bubba Wallace and Ross CH saying that they've had pretty consistent Seasons I mean points-wise let's see Bubba Wallace is 13th in points um Ross chastin 14th in points they they are both ahead of Joey lagano in the point standings and yet it seems like both of them at this point are going to miss the playoffs barring some great moment at Darlington next week so hey I mean does it suck for them absolutely but there's been too many new winners this year and this is the position they're in too many unlikely winners this year and you know the Daniel SAR is the Austin syrix and Harrison burden but that's this and that's why the regular season winning matters and if you want to put an onus on winning and put put that above all else this is the format you need if you eliminate the idea of winning and getting the playoffs you're going to create a system where you go back to the old days of we're just running for points and you're gonna get guys coming out of their race cars finishing third who maybe could have won a race and said ah great points day like you don't want that like if you want to see guys push it every single lap and put them in uncomfortable positions to do things that maybe sometimes go up against that line that we so often talk about this is the format and it creates these special moments and it adds this Cinderella Story which is part of sports and I think without that you lose it because without that without the playoff birth kind of that carrot out there tonight's a story tonight is the Wood Brothers winning the 100th Victory which is was incredibly special for a lot of reasons and it's great but it just doesn't have that same it doesn't resonate I don't think the same way can we just talk about how freaking insane this style of racing is I mean who who would think that this I mean this is Bonkers but it's obviously The Skill and Risks of Super Speedway Racing accepted as you know this is part of NASCAR now there's six of these per year I mean it's it's nuts this is like I don't even know how you if you took this type of racing and just nobody had ever watched a NASCAR race before and and they'd watch other types of racing around the world and you said check this out you'd be like what like people's heads would explode that this is how people race but I mean you're talking cars flipping massive crashes an entire pack running around together um you know the pushes you know the the pushes from people behind 200 miles an hour someone gets in the back bumper and you have to catch the car I mean we've seen that many times that this is why I don't know we want to walk down this road but we we wrote about the athletic today you know the whole Kyle Larson versus Max for Sapp you know who's the great you know who's the greatest driver right now like I'm sure if Max gave Max time to maybe get acclimated over here run ovals and all this but it's crazy to think that like see someone of that caliber could just come over here and hop in and do this like it's it's it's in fathomable to think about because it is crazy what these guys do in the risk they take at the speeds they take and you said they're running you know 30 WT 30 in a pack you know and inches apart and all of these things and guys are sometimes flipping on top of your car it it is insane what these guys are asked to do in these style races it is crazy it's not even like a split second decision what's less than a split second you know because that's what it is and it's just crazy to think about that you can go out there and do this and I I don't think and and I say this all the time I don't think the the skill set that is required to run these races is appreciated enough and and and it's I firmly believe that because there is a skill and I know there's luck involved and circumstances and everything but again you look at the guys typically run well in these races and we saw tonight we saw the G up there we saw blay um you know we saw a lot of The Usual Suspects at bubble walls um there's a reason these guys do well in these races they're really good about this and it to me I I I really get annoyed when people just dismiss like oh it's a super speedway it's it's all locked like no like Michael McD is really good in these races for a reason and I just don't think they get enough respect well it it really gets highlighted when you actually get to see the finish of a race um there's been too many times in these super speedway races where hey the caution comes out you know Daytona 500 this year right it was Byron versus Bowman it was all the timing of when the caution came out and so I think it's much easier in those situations to go man you know it's just like the xinity that was last night you're like w it's like build up build up oh here we go here we go and then oh that's let down but in the moments and we don't get them every Super Speedo race right because it's very easy to crash when people are going for it and they're pushing but when you get those moments where you can really look at the whole last lap or how somebody set something up and see the moves that they make and all that stuff and when it's a clean finish there's a few things I think in all of sports more exciting than a super speedway race when when it goes well and there's a few things more terrifying as well and I'll say to and again I don't go back to our further conversation what adds to it which adds to all the drama and this chess move of what matters and you got to make this move I'm gonna counter this to me it's I always compare super speed or racing to like NFL like studying NFL Playbook and seeing how play develops like the all 22 film like oh this hole is gonna open up and this guy's gonna do this and if he does this I'm going to counter this and that kind of thing but when you add in the fact of what's at stake for Kyle Bush and for Harrison Burton and some of the other guys that were up there tonight who desperately needed to win it it takes all of the drama that already is associated with Speedway racing and it just elevates it to an even higher plane I mean to me I I look at nights like this and you see how I mean it felt like there was going to be a new winner in a lot of Senses going into this week for for weeks for months it felt like there was GNA be a new winner in this race based on how the season was going but at at one point it was like 10 of the top 11 cars late in this race were looking for their first win I mean everybody knows like that desperation is so important and it just hits home how there's go no matter how predictable we might sit here you know February we're sitting in the same room right and we're talking about how The Season's gonna go and we're doing a preview and you can say who's gonna run well and who's gonna make the playoffs and stuff like that right but what you really can't ever account for and truly predict in this sport I mean you could guess but no we would not sit here there's no in February and say oh yeah we've got uh Austin cnri Harrison Burton and Daniel Suarez are three of the playoff drivers but Ross Chastain and Bubba Wallace and Kyle Bush are not three of the playoff drivers I'm sorry you just can't but that at the same time is what makes it so compelling and and I think that that is drastically improved the regular season because when you know you can argue with the playoff format and I I think still there's some hand ringing that can be done over the championship race being One race and the elimination rounds short sample size all that stuff but I don't think what gets enough credit is how compelling the win andin thing has made the regular season it's not just all right you know you've got these 16 drivers in in top 16 in points and you you might have you you pretty much know after a couple months who the top 12 are going to be and you might have a little bit of movement in the back of the points you know but you don't have much then they you know ultimately they insed a wild card before this win an in format that made it a little bit better but truly to be able to say hey we're going to New Hampshire if there's some Eric Almera type winner they're in and everybody knows it and it it kind of to me makes you keep watching every week because you just you just never know and so that's really compelling it it adds a layer of drama it heightens the stakes that you that didn't exist before where The Drama and Rewards of the Playoff Format if an AR Mora pulls a surprise at New Hampshire and Austin syri does it at a Gateway it's like oh cool that's great okay we're on the next week now though there's there's consequences for the people who are on the back half of the playoff grid and they're like whoa this just made our lives a lot more difficult and it carries through the rest of the regular season and I will content and the playoff for the actual playoff format that's a different conversation for a different day but the regular season format how they lay it out I think is incredible because it really does blend I don't think people understand this it Blends the beauty of things one Winning is Everything winning matters so much but consistency still matters doing well week in week out in the regular season matters I mean Denny Hamlin's penalty this week is a great example of that but if you do well during the regular season and you win races and you run up well and you finish well in point standings you get rewarded significantly and that will help you come the playoffs I think this system and how they set it up and the bonus points for winning and where you finish the regular season standings and the 15 points you get for the regular season Championship I think that is a great care to put in front of people and it's a great way to yes Winning is Everything but still it does reward the teams that are great week in and week out and again it just seems to me like if if I'm a driver and I'm going into next season or whatever from now on really and and you probably could have said this a couple years ago too but it just stuff like tonight hammers at home so much more you you just have to approach it like you have to win a race in the first 26 you almost have to assume I could have a phenomenally consistent regular season and if I don't win I'm not going to make it I mean you look at things could have gone a little bit differently here I mean TRX is not that safe considering how well he's you know he's ninth in points Tai Gibbs is 10th in points they're not that safe con considering had there been one like had the Dylan win counted yeah that changes everything whoa yeah I mean and and so you have even though Dylan's wi didn't count toward the playoffs you have four different winners with one week to go in the regular season we're I think we're just going to keep seeing this we're going to see 13 to 16 regular season winners per year you can't count on anything you you have to like and so you you know does it suck for chassa Bubba Wallace of course they've had solid Seasons but if you don't win doesn't matter yeah and it's why when you have moments like Chris busher almost winning at Kansas and losing by you know the closest finish in NASCAR history that like it just hurts even more in that Kyle Bush Atlanta Kyle Bush Kyle Bush tonight yeah um and then you know Chris berer at at Darlington where you know reic doesn't pull off that slly job and gets into him late and pushes him in the wall and not only does it cost him a potential win it cost him a ton of points now he's still potentially Moving on but the point is it's those moments you're like damn that win just you know and it just as it goes along you're like you keep thinking back oh man what could I have done differently and it's just it's crazy how you have these little moments of potential winning you know slip and slide this way or that way you know Austin Cinder at Gateway what happened there two big things had to happen for Austin CER won that race one Christopher Bell had an engine issue and started sliding back and put Austin second and then secondly it was Ryan bla rang out of fuel inexplicably that doesn't happen Austin syri is out but it's all of these little things that add up to create these moments and again it goes back to adding drama and making this exciting because that you don't want to go back to the day of guys just Racing for points like you want like there would be times when the guy who finished second would score more points than the winner and you're like are they leaving they like oh okay or like a guy running second would be like yeah well I I'm just gonna take the points today because I'm looking at the big pitcher here and I'm racing for a championship like no man now you got to race for wins even if you're in the regular season title like you still got to be smart and you want to go for wins because of what the bonus point structure is like this format is really good during the regular season I'd argue it's probably the best championship format during the regular season kind of thing if you will um in askcar history I mean I again I'm a fan of the regular season format and how it works so I'm not gonna I'm not gonna argue with you on that one um let's talk about quickly how this was set up because interestingly enough I mean you have Parker Retzloff in his second career Cup race and he is playing a big role here now I don't know if you guys follow the racing underdogs on X um he is an account uh longtime friend of mine actually great dude uh but he pay is paying attention to sort of like the back marker type people you know the people that aren't um you know getting as much love and he's listening to their radio chatter and tweeting about it um during the race and this was interesting because Parker retof there was conversation on His Radio channel basically saying whatever you do don't push the 21 to a win because uh that is you know Parker rof was driving a Chevy and you know you they don't want to put push a Ford in I think they would like to see you know Chevy to would like to see a Chevy in not knock a Chevy out and uh ultimately though I think Parker redoff has to do what he thinks is best for himself I mean he almost you know he finished seventh almost won the race the circumstances kind of dictated too because of how they lined up in the restart yeah it wasn't I believe and I have to go back and look at it because everything happened so quick but I think they were the the 21 was in front of the 62 and they were lined up together and so there wasn't much they could do to you know there wasn't much maneuvering there you could do plus they didn't get a great restart um which actually ended up helping them because they never built some momentum and so they were just kind of in a position where you really couldn't Mo much and you only have two laps too to like position yourself and that's just how the chips fall I feel bad for him because you're there's probably going to be some you know bad don't forget too by the way that that team is kind of a quasi affiliate team of RCR you know rcr's help Austin Hills driving driven that car before and I believe they've got you know a chers engine in there and that kind of thing like you can see why they're they're they're putting this in this kid's head of like hey do this but so much easier to say than do in these closing moments yeah I bet Richard CH just is not super thrilled with that he's had a tough few weeks he a tough few weeks I mean he had the whole Dylan thing and then you lo you know you you come here and you almost win and you you don't and yeah it's it's not a good time to be yeah man uh gez no kidding that's a great Point um but you know ultimately this was you know very exciting moment and a very exciting call from Lee Diffy wow we've gone back and listened to that call um I listen to a couple times since the end of the race uh you had the great moment Echoes of of of Ned Jarrett yeah um in the booth also at Daytona DJ home uh you had Jeff Burton getting very excited um high fiveing in there and uh what does he say Jeff your little boy yeah you know has done it or whatever I mean that's great call very exciting I I think NASCAR hasm said it best where he said something like Lee Lee diy's calls are like he's already seen the race and he's like poetically you know he already knows what to say in that moment it's just so natural and he makes it sound so exciting so good um if you've watched him on indie car um you know you know how great he is and and I think NASCAR is gonna be very fortunate to have him uh on this side now um just really a great announcer so yeah pretty pretty thrilling stuff there and um I just man you just think of all the ramifications either way right like for the Wood Brothers you know it's like Harrison Burton he's he's fired you know he doesn't know what he's doing next year and on his way out the door he gets the Wood Brothers their 100th win all this stuff and it's just like wow what a great story but had things go a little bit differently it's Kyle Bush wins his way into the playoffs continues his streak that he so badly wants to do gets this great moment and imagine it's playoff streak too by the way that's true yeah I mean like think about this though let's say Kyle Bush wins this race you would have heard the loudest cheers for Kyle Bush that he's ever gotten in his career like massively the the place would have gone nuts I mean I Harrison Burton got a lot of Cheers too it was a very cool moment but like it's just those little tiny things that make a difference um man it's just uh this this racetrack man it just you just never know what you're gonna get when you come here it isn't and it's really fitting that the Wood Brothers did it today or in at this race at Dayton this is a special place and in Victory Lane they they said like hey there's no other place if we're going to get our 100th Victory we want it to be here is like this is the Wood Brothers territory they they've had so much success here over The Battle for the Regular Season Championship the years um they've won so many Daytona 500s they've been involved with so many iconic moments whether it's Trevor Bane winning whether it's David Pearson in 76 whether it's tiny lawn you know stepping in as a last minute releas driver and winning like all of these cool moments they've been Associated going back way back in the day and they just added another one and you know to get their 100th win here Cinderella store driver goes in the you know goes into the playoffs now it's like so was really cool to see really really cool to see and it's a special moment and you could see what every what the Wood Brothers meant to the garage because they are the team that everybody cheers for everybody wants to see do well like if you can't if we can't win we l to see those guys it's like there's popular victories and then there's the Wood Brothers winning and I thought it was really symbolic of of Ryan blay was there Ryan blay was the last driver win for the Wood Brothers 2017 at Pocono win number 99 and he came to Victory Lane shook everybody's hand lot his former crew chief Jeremy Bolin is the crew chief over here there's a lot of you know Pensky you know the pensy partnership that kind of thing and blay was just sitting on the wall kind of below the stage just taking it all in and like sipping on a beer like just really he's like I don't want to leave here man I'm just enjoying this this is great it's like he just had got on the care center and he you know he had every right to be upset got to a wreck you know all of these things right he's on a golf cart and he's like he sees the the re the race coming down with like two laps to go and he's like stop the golf cart in the do lot and he like some random motor home he doesn't know who's it is had their had the TV on outside playing and you know he's like stop I want to watch the end of it so he stops watches the race sees the Finish Wood Brothers win he turns around in uniform still just again out of the care center after a bad wreck High tailes it to Victory Lane to take part of that and just sits there and chills and and you know takes it all in and the car's gone like this is how it is he was in there so long the cars pushed away to Victory Lane the you know the all the crew guys are intact going through that thing and he's just sitting standing in the corner now talking to Jeremy Bolan sipping a beer like they're just bsing having a good time it's like it was like a moment you could tell that neither of those guys want it to end it's really cool and we heard a lot of Harrison Burton talking about some of the other drivers that came to Victory lame including Bubba Wallace yep that was surprising I mean a moment where he had a really CH too by the way oh really both so I mean the drivers that he moved the cut line for both still thought enough of him uh to come congratulate him in in Victory Lane that's pretty classy but Bubba Wallace and Chastain what a tough situation to find themselves in now Chris busher has the advantage uh he's up I think 21 points correct on bubba Wallace and he's up 27 points on Ross chain yes so it's not impossible he's not you know completely locked in I mean you could get stage points and you narrow that and then you get a win or something else but Chris busher as you mentioned at Darlington earlier this year a race that his teammate Brad Kowski won and busher could have won himself um that's that's a formidable place to be going up and trying to gain points on him it is but I will say this and Darlington wears on equipment we have seen it in the spring race we've seen it many times in southern 5 it is still true it is a place that grinds you down we see a lot of guys get in the wall there break you know rear toe links they have Tire issues things happen we you know you we've seen pileups in the corner like it attrition is still a thing in Darlington like this isn't modern day NASCAR where parts are most races like you know outside of Speedway Races like cars are gonna finish right Darlington the exception man I'm telling you it it's not impossible like it's really conceivable like Chris goes there and something happens like you and you your point too you can gain points in stages like it's not it's not a lock by any means like if this was at like Las Vegas or Indianapolis or some of these other tracks that have hosted the regular se you know like you like oh yeah okay yeah well I don't really see it darlington's different and it's a hard track it's a really hard track we saw it in the spring Chris was three laps or whatever from having a top three finish maybe and gets pushed in the wall and boom and no caution by the way and his day and he finishes way down in the state like you just don't know and so I I don't know can I ask you a question really quick uhuh okay so I kind of put together like if you're gonna you know if you're somebody's gonna go there and pull the surprise win right winning winning not points but winning I put together a list of Five drivers outside the playoffs okay that could conceivably I think most likely go there and win and I want to hear your thoughts on them one is Bubba walls you think you could go to Darlington to win um no I don't think he can win okay uh you think he can win you see Bubba winning Darlington he runs well though he he has put himself in position to get good finishes there I don't think it's likely likely but I don't think it's inconceivable KY Bush I think this is really I don't think Kyle Bush can go in darington based on this his equipment yeah they they've come on a Little Bit Stronger but I'm not seeing I mean Darlington is really you're talking I mean it's probably GNA be a Gibbs or hendri car right I mean I mean yes I know it was R I know I know but it's a Powerhouse type track normally right I mean Eric Jones won there a couple years ago man like things happen here's the case for KY Bush and I think he could one is ky Bush he's really really good there um it's a veteran you know attracted tens to favor veterans who know how to take care of the equipment not make mistakes Save Tires that kind of thing and we have seen a lot of speed out of their car since the break at variety tracks like what you had speed at Richmond and then you go to Michigan and you also have speed like there's a lot of carry over there between the two tracks they have seemed to have found something in their cars um they they certainly have a little bit of a Swagger it seems like now they've got speeding the race cars I could see why it could happen so that that's the case of cowboys Ross Chastain now Ross Chastain is somebody I think you know if you get him a good car um which track house is close enough to that window where I could potentially see Chastain going and running well um and doing it and getting it done um the tenacity um yeah I mean I'm sorry I just don't I'm not seeing it out of Bubba and Kyle Bush at this moment okay um I think chess a is really the one I know you're gonna say Eric Jones no I I I actually had Michael McDow and Brisco the way Jones is running right now like he's great at darling that team is well I mean I would thought Eric Jones on tal alone that I do have zero confidence in that team yeah I mean that's fair it's it's tough you mean yeah so no I I really I mean I guess I could see Ross chain doing it um other I can't see anybody else I'll be honest I just can't I just don't think it's gonna be a I think it's gonna be a repeat winner I I think so too I I think a lot of things would have to kind of fall into place you know Parts failures guys having issues that kind of thing for something to open the door um I think if you're a bubble walls you you've got to put yourself in position I think it's really imperative if you're bubble Wallace you're 21 points back you need to go there and like we need to gets points in stage one like we need to get as many points in stage one as possible because we need to put the screws and the pressure on the team on the 17 team and then they're gonna have to respond in stage two and maybe they make a mistake I mean again like for the people that are saying well wait a minute these guys are running well they're running better what evidence have you seen that they they can actually go and win if they had winning capability would they have not have done it earlier in the season um yeah in a moment and let me say this too because this is not just like the Daytona cut off this is a this is a time when all the current playoff drivers whether it's a lson a Chase Elliott a blay a Hamlin or whoever are like Yo dude I can get five more playoff points here and Pad my you know I need more playoff points going in so you're gonna have the top guys going all out they're going to be set on kill so again that to me reduces the odds of a new winner and I'm not taking anything away from the speed that these teams have but we're talking about winning the race not just running top five or top 10 are being like that's a respectable day that's a big difference um looking at it right now Josh Barry finished third in the spring and Chase Brisco finished fifth Bubba Wallace was seventh Justin Haley was ninth Michael McDow 10th so you know sprinkled some you know unusual suspects in there we'll see I'm just my imagination not seeing it I agree I mean this is a track that rewards the best teams like in the this is the drivers and teams that typically win races throughout the course of season go here and win well it's gonna be interesting to see what else so then who makes the playoffs in your opinion who comes out of Darlington with the final I don't think we see change I mean I think it's I think it stays as is I think the 21 points is going to be too much to overcome for bubble walls and I don't see anybody below him jumping up and winning so you're saying that Kyle Bush and could win but they're not going to win correct okay that was a long conversation to get to the same place that we're both I'm trying to fill here man like it is 1:44 in the morning and I am trying to come we agree that Nei that nobody there's not gonna be a new winner agreed we just had a whole conversation we could still Analyze This our job was we analyze we icked sometimes you you you come back to the point of like you know what after have this conversation we reach to consensus that you know it's going to stay as is all right this how this works so the other points battle going on is the regular season Championship um you had all three of the remaining contenders after Denny Hamlin's uh unfortunate engine penalty uh all three of them were collected in incidents uh this evening but uh how it shakes out is Tyler reck is plus 17 points on Kyle Larson plus 18 points on Chase Elliott now here again Chances of Bubba Wallace and Kyle Busch Making the Playoffs reck is a very formidable opponent to go up against um wouldn't you say at at Darlington that's you're trying to make 174 laps in the spring and they have had a lot of speed in their race cars take tonight you throw it out the window it's a you know Speedway race whatever look at what they have done really throughout this course of Summer they've had speed every week every single week they don't make mistakes they execute they qualify well which is really important at Darlington by the way um I would almost throw reic as the favor in this race and here's the problem right let's say reck doesn't win let's say reick gets a top five well if you're Kyle Larson and you're like well I'm pretty great it's Arlington too right how are you still you still got to make up 17 points so if reic get stage points and reic finishes respectively where where you gonna make those points up so that's that's a problem right I mean you're you're kind of hoping reck is just off yeah um and you know same for Chase Elliot but I mean to me it's Larson and reick are two of the guys that are really exceptional at Darlington so you would think it comes down to them I don't really see Chase outr running both them to the degree that he makes it in without has never one Darlington too um you know if you're Kyle arson the best way to make up points would have been not to miss the Coca-Cola 600 oh my gosh what a troll thing to say at 14 7 in the morning just those would have been some great I mean easy really easy to make up 17 points that way okay not wrong well um all right um so Denny Hamlin would have been in this conversation of course but we didn't get to talk about his unfortunate situation yet uh man talk about cursed talk about unlucky yeah uh one of the weirdest things that you could ever have happen to somebody really um so NASCAR requires that if you win uh you have to submit your engine for inspection but they don't make you submit it right away because um you can use it again and that's part of the rule that it's part of the sealed engine rule where essentially they want every engine to be used at least twice you can use it more than that but at least twice because they're trying to keep teams from having a new engine for every race remember even back in the day there was qualifying engines people would have different engine and they're just trying to save money make the team save money right so the teams asked for this by the way and and this is fine everybody's on board with this but the teams themselves I mean in this era teams are not really building their own engines I mean yeah you could say well ECR it's part of children way but it's like Toyota for instance these engines are being built in Costa Mesa California um these are all organized by Toyota Racing development jgr Hamlin Chris gabart they they don't have anything to do with this right but the NASCAR role book you you have to penalize the team you can't just say because imagine if you said all right you know what the engine manufacturer screwed up so we're going to find the engine manufacturer well what yeah I cool dude get a check like yeah no problem done exactly so you have to make it hurt in some sense yeah it's really unfair unforunately but there's no there is no way to work around it like there is no like you could you you could say like Danny hin doesn't deserve this the 11 team doesn't deserve this but okay but what is the penalty then what is a reasonable way to say to teams like you can't do this like you can't work around this and this unfortunately the only way like I've asked a ton of people in the garage um and everybody's like I don't know like there is no way and so it's just it's a really crummy situation um it's a body blow it's going to sting throughout the playoffs and especially when you look at how the first round sets up like you know if you're Denny Hamlin pre penalty you're going to Denny Hamlin's Penalty and Playoff Challenges Atlanta like listen we just got to keep the wheels on the car we finished top 15 I even top 20 we're like we're we okay more than likely now you're like we can't afford to get in anything we've got we we we leave there with a bad finish we're we're in trouble we're almost in we're almost have to be in must-win mode going into Watkins Glenn and then going into Bristol and I don't think that's a position aay wants to be in yeah I mean it's pretty wild honestly like um I mean to lose 10 playoff points is painful in itself right like that's two wins but then you think about the 75 regular season points and how far that drops him so you're talking about let even if say Hamlin to finish third in the standings but now he's gonna now he's eighth so he loses five spots so you know the the 10 the top 10 in the regular season standings get playoff points so you lose more there too so we're talking about essentially maybe the equivalent of five of of three races so 15 playoff points maybe it's the that's the difference and yeah can he still win the championship sure but as you said now there's way less of a chance of a mulligan and there's way more emphasis on you probably have to win um multiple times in different rounds to make it and um does Denny Hamlin have the speed does the 11 team have the speed absolutely every week they seem to have speed they also haven't won since April which underscores how ult it is to actually have the winning car and win with it and have the best car right so this is a tough sport uh it's it's easier to you can be like oh sure yeah we we got it we'll go through are out of your control though yeah you can have you can have a roof hatch break you can have a parts failure in your steering mechanism and crash um you can have a guy ride the wall um improbably and pass you coming to the the Finish line and oh by the way those all three things happened to Denny Hamlin in the playoffs like out of your control like it's just the way they see it's It's a cruel format it's really tough argue the fairness of it it's conversation for a different day um but that's the reality and for listen this team could be lights out for nine weeks and it could be a non-issue and they can get to CH they get to Phoenix and it'll be one of the final four and it's not a problem they are certainly capable of that and honestly if they can maybe get a win or two in the early rounds it can really help yourself out and then maybe when you get to round three you're not in this really precarious spot but again if you look at how the playoff scheduled laid out it's not easy because Atlanta is going to be really tough it sounds like there may be a different tire compound by the way at Watkins Glenn and I've heard it might be have a lot of wear which could really be a huge curveball Bristol is Bristol then we go where we go after that we go Kansas well what have we seen at Kansas like great racing hard to finish um tough on the equipment all of those things then you got daa and then you got the roll like that's six races in a row where it's like okay pack a lunch have fun with that guys yeah no kidding I mean it's it's gonna be pretty intense I I just I can't stop thinking about how this mistake could have happened by the way like I mean where does it go in the process where it's like oh yeah this is a sealed engine um but you know we we'll just we'll just tear it down and rebuild it it's not even just that yeah can we can I mean in it's it's a multi-process failure because somebody at Joe Gibbs Racing had to take that engine and box it up and ship it across the country before NASCAR inspected it so which doesn't really make sense you think it was going to probably stay at Joe Gibbs Racing until NASCAR came over and inspected it right and said it gets shipped out to California where somebody at California opens up this crate they look at the engine it's got the seal on it and they decide to ah I'm gonna unseal it like it is a multi-process failure along the way brutal really I mean yeah like it's it's yeah it sucks and it's really and again cruy unfair to the 11 team who've been really great this year whove put a a focus on having success during the regular season for all the reasons we talked about earlier because of the points and what it gives and the rewards because when they come to the playoffs they don't want to have to have to rely on somebody not riding the wall or a parts failure they wanted a bigger Safety Net in case something happened and now instead of their net that they had built up which was pretty good size it just got shrunk on them to almost nothing well speaking of brutal Jordan uh boy some of the hits we saw tonight holy cow the Josh Barry won what which like what like the McDow won or the Barry won like like pick like yeah no kidding no kidding yeah I mean we were talking about uh Airborne cars all this week after the Cory L Joy thing and you're like well I mean hopefully this thing that they've put on the side of the car will help keep the cars in the ground and it seemed like from the broadcast like Steve lart was you know kind of giving some credit to the McDow Intense Crashes and Safety Measures at Daytona one where he gets up and he's flipping over and he kind of ends up coming back down and good thing he didn't get up high enough to go into the fence because that would have been really bad he ends up coming kind of down with the back of the car on the top of the wall and he lands on all four tires thankfully that was like boy take a deep breath on that one and then the Josh Barry won that car again flips over way too easily it felt like um not as easy as the coral Joy one but sort of in the same type of vein and then is skitting on its roof and then the hit that he takes upside down into the wall man uh scary that was really alarming now thankfully they also point out in the broadcast I mean the Integrity of the roof was outstanding I mean that roof did not get crushed so that's awesome and then ultimately you know yes it stinks that Barry was hanging upside down and uh all that thing and the radio antenna I think got knocked off and everything but you know so there's some tense moments right like is he okay but he gets out of the car and he's back to the Care Center moments later doing his TV interview and saying actually it wasn't even really as bad as it probably looked so it's both alarming that the cars are going airborne yeah but also incredibly comforting that these cars continue to be very very very safe I mean again I know it's kind of weird to have those in the same sentence but you can actually have both um now again it' be great to keep the cars yeah that's the thing like you've got to figure way to keep these cars on the ground The Joy thing was particularly both of them were really alarming to be honest with you like they just get airborne the McDow thing like because they're in the corners and there's a lot going on you know I I don't want to say I'm excusing it but I feel like there's a little bit more understanding of why it happened um the berry thing certainly jumps out to you the ly thing absolutely Oh by way can we mention to no grass back there anymore thank goodness like that huge we've seen that multiple times this weekend where accidents are guys spinning back there and you're like man you imagine if there's grass like it would have been magnified thankfully not but got to figure out a way to keep these cars in the ground and it's you it's a testament to the car and we Danny hin really talked about it really great last week on acent detrimental of like he'd rather flip in a car than hit a wall head on just because the way this this car is so wellb built um and keeps drivers safe you on the roof and from the sides and everything like that like they've done a really good job with this car of protecting the drivers and that the NASCAR deserves a lot of credit for that yeah I mean and again like I think we mentioned in the last podcast too but the scary thing is once a car gets Airborne the driver is no longer driving it right like they're for the ride and so it's fine if you end up coming back down into the track and it seems like you know hey knock on would but they have been safe relatively safe even in the Ryan priest incident but again my fear and I think the nightmare absolute nightmare for everybody is the car sails and it hits the fence goes through a fence goes into a area where there's people or clears of workers or whatever thefield today like Barry I mean you I quickly you're watching this you're like oh man like that could be you know catapult that fence there it's not that high and all of those things yeah so that's you know that's not great but I I also want to say and and I don't want to sound like I'm not taken seriously Enough by any means but you know the last you know these last six days or five days whatever I mean you have Monday to Saturday um it's it's been a bad week for Airborne cars but I I do think for the most part yeah I mean we saw Harrison Burton in the first year the next gen flipped here got Airborne here but it's not like these cars have been like flipping frequently over the last three years since this came out right I mean it's not like like the Cory Le Joy blowover if let's say this was the first year of the nextg yeah and we saw that in early nextg race i'' be like oh crap this is really bad but that seemed fluky in a way like that doesn't happen very often and again like you don't want to see it at all but I am I wrong like I don't feel like we've seen that that many Airborne nextg cars now I don't I'm trying to remember the bubble Wallace one at Tega that was what 2022 I think or was that 2021 I don't I don't know because that that I'm just I don't know it first year next gener yeah so that that makes a difference because yeah I think it was 21 now because I know Lano was talking about how the cockpit I have to go back and look but I don't know I think I mean it does feel like there's I don't know I kind of go the other side of like I feel like there's a little bit more like it feels like it it's happening maybe because feels like it's Happ more with nextg I don't know just maybe maybe and again it may just be perception because of the past few days because we had lejoy you had Barry and throw McDow in like you've had three scary crashes oh Kyle seek too not the same series but still we've seen a lot of cars get upside down over this last week so maybe the perception is a little skewed yeah and I mean look clearly they're going to quite quite a bit look into this now I mean every time something happens R&D is always looking at it exactly I will say NASCAR is is on top of like we saw it this week they reacted the cor of Joy thing they're going to react this they they when something like this happens it is like all hands on deck we are gonna investigate this and we're gonna try to find a solution yeah well Jordan um second week we've had our new um Advertiser safety culture thanks to them uh the safety culture car tonight didn't have the the best result yeah um with Shane Van gurgen blew up big time little fiery yeah obviously not his fa I don't know if something came through the grill there like from Eric Jones car maybe or something like when because he was having a flat tire and then right behind him SVG's Full-Time Cup Move and Zane Smith's Situation SVG anyway yeah I heard that and the same thing I heard with suares too is like maybe he picked up some debris and that was the cause of his fire which was really odd oh yeah that was scary too well um the reason we're doing the segment uh that's sponsored by safety culture uh they are the workplace operations platform giving teams what they need to get the job done quicker and improve every day safety culture a better way of working we're going to talk about the decisions of the race so the key moments the key decisions that led to this outcome I want to talk about one that um Jeremy bullins the crew chief for Harrison Burton mentioned in the post race which I didn't even really realize so um Harrison Burton had apparently slid his tires um trying to avoid I guess the that last big one and there was a moment there where they were like should we come down Pit Road we don't know if our tires are flat and I guess Harrison was like I think they're good enough and Jeremy bll said let's stay out let's not come down Pit Road let's keep our track position and see what happens um a risk a risk certainly Jordan but paid off one that turned out to be a pretty good uh decision so I will give that to my key decision of the race because that would have been uh a complete different story otherwise yeah and my safety culture uh moment if you will is Kyle Bush's decision on the last lap not to throw a block on Harrison BG could have very well done it we have seen many driver in that sit especially considering what a went meant to him I I don't think if he tries to throw a block there you you could understand maybe why he would like hey I'm gonna we've seen a lot of desperate blocks if he doesn't that situation I think that causes a big wreck and at that point in the racetrack that's scary because guys are at speed just we talked about guys flipping guess what mik Josh Barry's crash was on the backstretch if Kyle Busch throws a block there it likely fails causes a big wreck and then who knows but he didn't unfortunately for him he doesn't win the race but it also prevented a really bad wreck from happening and also I mean it probably I mean you probably take it for granted with Kyle Bush in the decision that he's making there but he did decided to not do it dirty he decided to win the right way like he was saying the afterwards he said the only way I could have done it was to probably spin him or rough him up or make contact essentially right and at a super speedway he wasn't gonna do it so you have to give some kudos to that Kyle's not that kind of driver like there's this perception of like Kyle's like oh he's aggressive and he's gonna run you over like he's not that kind of guy like he will race you hard but he will race you clean until the moment you don't race him clean like he he's not somebody who's G to go out looking to initiate contact yeah no I agree well safety culture is a workplace operations tool that gives teams what they need to get the job done quickly and improve every day but what does that actually mean well obviously if you're part of a company a business a team Etc efficiency is everything no matter what you're trying to achieve no one has time to waste from construction sites to factory floors safety culture is designed to drive improvements not just in safety but broadly across quality and efficiency too it's all about meeting higher standards by bringing the whole team into one page all from their mobile devices we know track house racing is not only a sponsor on Shan van guren's car but they are a big believer in the safety culture app they use safety cultures app to manage everything from pre-race inspections on the car to assembly checks and even in-house training all on their very own operations platform so if you're a team leader the safety culture app can help you get greater visibility across your whole operation so you can make confident decisions fast if you work behind the scenes safety culture can give you access to the knowledge and tools that help ensure your success and help you make every second count are you ready to put your workplace in the poll position head to safety culture.com SVG speaking of SVG Jordan yes pre-race news uh SVG going full-time in cup next year getting House of they've got a third Charter SVG is the guy unfortunately that leaves Zayn Smith as the odd man out this is tough right because in a sense you're like well man zann Smith he just signed a deal a multi-year contract and you're like he's the guy of the future number one draft pick number one draft pick they said last year tears it was like yeah it was emotional press conference last September there was obviously not enough seats though and so I mean it's it's tough It's a harsh thing but like to decide between SVG and Zane Smith going forward to me from a business standpoint you're looking at it like well I mean SVG is I mean there's probably a 50% The Decision-Making Process in NASCAR chance or better that he's gonna get me in the playoffs ex exactly and do you have that same percentage chance of Hope for Zane Smith in year two I mean it sucks he's showing promise it's yeah he's gotten better as the years goes along he's he's starting to string together top 20 finishes and it's really tough but this is the squeeze and this has always been the squeeze ever since it became apparent that SVG was gonna end up in cup in 2025 um when they when they went down this road if he's gonna run Xfinity and everything it's like okay you're looking at it going you got Chastain you got Suarez you got SVG you got zann Smith okay four guys guys they' got a two-car team now are they gonna it was always GNA felt like it was going to be a numbers game and it didn't honestly it didn't makes it's the timing sucked because if track house could go back and they knew the SVG thing at the time when they signed Zay they didn't know that Zay you know SVG was GNA be full-time it was in we kind of In Motion at the time but they had no idea was going to go down this road if they could have it do over again they they're not signing Zan they're they're just not going to because SVG is your guy if you're looking at this and a purely as a performance this bottom line thing SVG is your guy because you're he is going I would put money he's gonna be in the playoffs next year like I will just he's gonna win one of these road course races whether it's Kota Sonoma um Chicago Chicago Watkins Glenn Mexico um so like I mean he's going to win one of these um it's just the way it is and if I'm looking this like I need to get that car in the playoffs because the money is ridiculous I just paid all of this money for a charter from Stewart house racing like I've got to justify this like it sucks it mean you can sit there and thing got done dirty and like it it's unfortunate this is a business at the end of the day and this is professional sports and we've seen it where guys don't deserve to get their number called and unfortunately it happens I mean here's here's what I hate about it to me if okay I have you've rarely seen rookies come in and be up to speed right away I mean it just doesn't happen very often and this is we're talking about some really really great drivers over the years who have taken maybe a season and a half or so to really start finding their footing 100 starts usually to get that first win it's kind of the number I mean that's and that's totally reasonable right because this is extremely hard and we're in an era where there's no testing zero for the most part I mean these no practice very very Li practice like almost zero practice it and so what you're asking these guys to do when you're coming in the series is very hard I think Carson josar has had an exceptional season in in that regard right like Carson josar is 21st in points unbelievable Josh Barry uh for a rookie now in a great established team 23rd in points so it really hurts zanen Smith when he's 33rd in points point right like that's not it's not going to cut it um but you know you didn't even give him a full season um you know before you had already made the decision that he was gonna be released so that's that's what that's unfortunate right because I just wish and and correct me if I'm wrong the same thing happened to Daniel hemrich um when he went to RCR right like he only got one year and he he actually had a solid Year too it was like 22nd 23rd in points was okay um but they really wanted to keep Tyler reic they were in a position where they they had to make the choice and H got bounced and again like you know you look at it and you're like well you can't argue with it in a sense but I just think if you're gonna for teams that are going to take on a rookie I I I would really like to see these people say all right you know we know this is going to be a two-year project and even if they have a bad first year you know we're going to wait we're going to really let you develop and boss me actually now I'm thinking about it um Michael McDow with MWR sure they brought him from ARCA back in the day straight to cup if I'm remembering correctly I think this was 07 or 08 something like that and he didn't get to finish that first season um before he was he was out I think it was like around Watkins Glenn that summer and they're like yeah sorry like and and it was just like man where are you you're bringing these people up you're throwing them in the fire and you're just the expectations are unrealistic I think so that's where I feel bad for the zanen Smith element of it but at the same time like SVG I mean not only are we talking about he can get you in the playoffs but the star power the international star power that he brings the popularity you're you're just not gonna if you have to decide between the two which they did I mean it's very unfortunate I want to call it Nob brainer but like like there well Justin Mark said it was quotee easy decision so see why he's saying that I get it like and it sucks for Zayn because I'm looking at like five of the last seven races Zayn's finished in the top 20 he's like he is getting better as the year goes along further compounding the issues like they were a brand new team at Spire um they have this weird kind of you know it's a Spire team but it's a track house driver track House crew chief track house has got some input on things so you're they're trying to do a little bit of everything we're trying to run like how track house was doing things things but we're also at Spire we're trying to run H like you can't blend it was really hard to blend all this together and you also got to creu by first year crew chief coming over from Hendrick so he's got you know there's all of these different system and processes in place and you're trying to figure this out it's hard that's a very tough situation for a veteran driver to navigate let alone a guy who's got a rookie Crew Chief and a rookie driver and he but yet he is getting better as year goes along and you can make a case if there's a Cup team out there that wants him like Hey you're going to get somebody who's got experience and obviously he figuring this out he's talented he deserves to be in the cup series um there is an opportunity out there for him in the cup series and I you know we'll see if that comes together or not um it's just it's unfortunate this is it comes down to just it's a numbers game does Harrison Burton have any is it too late for him to get one of these remaining rides open not too late um but things would have to come together and a lot of it's going to honestly come down to sponsorship because if you look at the rides that are out there in the CB series it comes down to funding and there's really one organization right now um Rick Weare racing where you can say there's a couple of open there's maybe one or two open seats and maybe one of those has actually maybe spoken for and so it seems like front row has kind of got their idea in mind what they're going to do call league has got their second driver Chris Rice told me the other day like they know who it is they just got to put pen to paper and Dot the eyes and cross the te's and it seems like they're down the road with that so really oh by the way there spy's got the seven car but that's you know we know we know that situation and so there really isn't a doesn't seem like a spot maybe Rick we're racing but again that's a situation where you're going to need to bring a lot of funding to get that ride I don't think that's going to materialize I think Harrison's best path is probably going back to the exity series maybe the truck series and I've heard his name linked to a couple of teams in the xinity series gotcha okay well speaking of Rick wear racing Cody wear P4 tonight that was one of the big surprises of the evening you also have Parker Retzloff as we mentioned earlier p7 Daniel hemrich P9 um another good run for Carson josar he is 11th zann Smith the aforementioned Zayn Smith Smith 13th um and I also even like to go down to uh you know Joey gase P20 for New York Racing NY racing considering they lost the draft pretty much right away at the the start of the race and everything not a hell of a night for them yeah uh so some really good performances there obviously you know Justin Haley who is sort of the darling of this podcast when we talk about super Speedways um he was up there doing his thing as well for Rick wear racing there was a lot of there was a lot of wh ifs and potentials tonight um but another big wh if Jordan is what if our bet had gone a different way what if our good race pole bet had gone a different way we we are at a a a very interesting point in the season because you know this is the scene of The Pink Suit from earlier in the year and we don't know what to bet we we talked about it today and we're really looking to you guys for help at this moment we've we've thrown around some ideas we're sort of at a loss on what would be an appropriate bet we're not going to do the same wardrobe dressing thing right from from we need something new so help us for the good race pole bet throw us some ideas tweet us uh my DMs are open um help help me out uh we we you know I had thrown out uh growing a beard the entire office season Jordan doesn't want to do it having half a beard on Daytona 500 race day he doesn't want to do it um that is that is lit the stupidest idea I've ever letting me take over his social media account that's even stupider he doesn't want to do it so um yeah I'm kind of running out of things you know we've talked about we talked today about maybe the Waffle House type bet you know but everybody does that where you stay in a waffle house for 24 hours and you get it reduced by one hour for every waffle you eat how many waffles could you eat I don't know but probably you get desperate right oh yeah so I don't know but that's a that's a cliche bet so we we want to do something like that right I mean maybe something along those lines but help us brainstorm um you know maybe we'll we'll figure something out so uh but this is crazy Jordan so right now with two races to go in the regular season Big Joe wall who has uh tallied our scores all year very Faithfully thank you Joe um so we are right now 13 to 133 and not only that you know we've been doing a tiebreaker in Cas because it's possible to in the regular season tied the tiebreaker right now uh my tiebreaker score is 235.68 point0 so we have been we are separated by 0.4 total percent across all these races our average Miss is both 99.1% damn so we are like exactly even at this point um so yes I I won last week um I you know it was a little bit what I just want to point out I for one of the best ideas I had I offered to fly out to Denver cook Jeff and his wife and his family dinner and then babysit their children and let them him and his wife have a night out and he completely Nicks that idea how sweet of an idea that I would why would I let you watch my children why would I why would I leave my children with you by themselves you don't trust me no why it's we six gonna Happ they'll be fine no they're gonna pick up a lot of bad habits but that's fine I'm not leaving a five-year-old and a three-year-old with you under your supervision they will be fine I promise they'll be great kids love me there's no there's no chance I and by the way my wife and I would not enjoy our dinner whatsoever we'd be so stressed about what what's going on at home with Jordan is the house on fire are are the kids screaming or you know like oh no it wouldn't be enjoyable all right I'm just again just throwing out ideas but what would what would I have to do if if you had to do that if you lost what would I have to do I don't know I don't think about that that would be uh that would be a good one okay well um anyway so we need we need ideas but uh so I won last week this is this is a tough one to guess I mean because I feel like it's a pretty good race but typically um man super speedway races don't do that great in the poll they really don't um I'm trying to pull this up here because I know I got confetti on me still yeah you you do that you got Jordan came back from Victory Lane he had his hair was just covered with conf confetti um okay so like let's let's look at Daytona races here right as I'm pulling this up okay so the highest Tona race was uh oh last year's cutoff race the busher win is 91.1 um but you have a lot of them that are kind of in the 80s and they drop off and people people like are sort of you know resistant to totally embracing this form of craziness so where do I go with this you know what I'm saying like I me it was a great it it was a very exciting race it was uh a new winner good storyline clean Reflecting on the Unpredictable Season finish um you know you had the big ones uh great call leier I mean you know people like the uh broadcast man a lot of crashes though a lot of crashes people you know don't like the flips and like typical craziness this isn't racing that kind of thing right seems like you should go low is yeah okay well I'm gonna say 86% d and just hope hopefully yeah 86% for me to try to get the advantage going into the regular season finale what you what do you got Jordan I was really hoping you were gonna go a lot lower I was really hoping you were gonna go a lot lower um I was gonna guess 85 um you can I could but then I'd be you and I don't want to be you no but if that was gonna be your guess guess it you know seems chap you got to do what you got to do to win you just see what happened in this race going I'm trying to be like Kyle Bush okay oh okay trying to win class okay you can Austin Dyan it all you want to I'm ask Kyle Bush over here okay Kyle Bush lost so you know what he won the crowd okay all right you're going for the crowd win now okay I don't think you're the people's Champion though Jordan yeah that's very clear you know what it's okay to be the bad guy every once in a while uh Reddit loves you Jordan they do they love you too they love o tough crowd everybody's gonna love you man all right Reddit what did we do to you Reddit it's all good uh hey at least are listening 83 83 lower okay so you actually left me some room I know I'm a nice guy just I did not feel comfortable giving you 85 so okay so 86 for me for me me 83 for you yeah and we will see where this this all ends up any other final thoughts from your notes from um the stona race you actually took notes I take not every race um we mentioned Justin Haley uh I thought the oh we you know we talk a lot about quality racing on here and you know we he talk about a lot of super Speedways and like not saving fuel I'm not saying they didn't save fuel tonight I thought the racing was good tonight yes thank goodness it didn't seem like the half throttle show the entire time like whatever I don't know why but I I don't know either I don't want I don't want to pretend to know because I didn't talk to anybody after the rise but I thought I mean there was some fuel savings but it's still was a good show you're keep that regardless you know and you you were able to make moves you did see guys come from the back like it didn't seem like you were stuck you didn't hear people like oh I can't I didn't hear anything on the radio oh I can't pass like it felt entertaining it felt good you know it wasn't and it wasn't a bunch of crazy moves too which can lead to a lot of problems like it was a nice balance if you will yeah I mean there was never a point where I was like H this is boring or something I not at all and also Jordan how about The Surreal nature of this weekend in that this season plagued by rain yes I was by weather yes constantly everywhere we go oh you know oh it hasn't rained here for two weeks and then the race got rained out us up you come to Daytona in the Summer where it's going to rain every day day 4:00 I mean 5 o00 both races started on time and were not interrupted by weather whatsoever they just got in naturally with no problems wow the only on track activities that were interrupted was xinity Series qualifying which had already been through one round which is fine and that was for lightning it never actually rained a drop on the track I don't believe unbelievable like it's unbelievable we actually had no interruptions for weather this weekend it was incredible I don't remember what ever happening here honestly figure honestly I couldn't tell you the last time it happened here well I'll take it Amen on that hopefully darlington's good even though it's now 2:24 in the morning uh eastern time we would have been here a lot later had this spr been delayed so and by the way shout out I know a lot of you are listening to this um and not staying up with us but shout out to those of you who stayed up for our live feed over 800 people still Jordan at 2:25 in the morning watching us on the live stream as we are trying stay awake we had plenty of coffee so that that was good lots of Caffe yeah lots of coffee today still got a lot of work to do yeah anyway um Darlington is next G be fun you will be there and then we will um have something special for you coming up for the playoffs don't want to ruin it yet but uh stay tuned on this feed I don't know need to we can talk about next week next week next week we talk about it and then we will both be together at Atlanta to open the playoffs as well so uh some exciting stuff coming up you know this is honestly Gonna Fly by you guys like this I mean 11 race to go now this thing is gonna season's gonna be over but it's going to be very exciting in the meantime I think because Excitement for the Upcoming Races at Darlington and Atlanta this honestly this Championship I mean we'll talk about our picks next week but it's I don't think there's a favorite at all there's not one driver where you're like well this is it's this guy's title to lose not at all no but I feel like that every year it's like three or four guys you know I think there's I think it's way more I mean I think I I mean I went through the last week seven guys I think a realistic win it's probably more than usual I still feel like with the championship most years though is it's it's pretty competitive and it's even when you think like a you know back to 2020 with Harvick it's like oh Harvick's G wi the championship it's like well then he kind of Fades and it opens it up and we'll see can I ask you a question I know we're kind of getting head ourselves a little bit are you excited for Atlanta you looking forward to Atlanta or you like oh my goodness I can't believe they're doing Atlanta playoffs um did you see the last Atlanta race it was pretty awesome I remember saying that if Atlanta's not sold out after that race something's wrong that was one of the best overall it was a great finish but it was one of the best races period that I've seen so I think it's be fun I think it's be crazy a lot of hurt feelings after that race should be good I'm excited excited for what's to come here everybody thanks so much as always for listening and we will talk to you next time on the tear down see you everybody
