>> GOING TO NEWS AT 4 STARTS NOW. GOOD AFTERNOON. TROPICAL ACTIVITY IS RAMPING UP IN THE EAST PACIFIC AND THE ISLANDS COULD SEE RAIN FROM SOME CYCLONES STARTING LATE FRIDAY. LET'S TAKE A LOOK FIRST START WITH THE SATELLITE JUST TO SHOW YOU KIND OF WHAT'S OUT THERE. AND IT'S STILL FAR FROM THE ISLANDS. BUT THERE ARE 3 SPECIFIC AREAS THAT WE ARE WATCHING. WE HAVE THIS AREA WHICH COULD BECOME A TROPICAL DEPRESSION. WE HAVE CURRENT TROPICAL STORM GIL MA AND THERE'S AN AREA OF DISTURBED WEATHER NEAR MEXICO THAT COULD ALSO BECOME A TROPICAL DEPRESSION. EVEN A TROPICAL STORM. SO THINGS ARE VERY ACTIVE IN THE EAST PACIFIC. THIS IS ONE OF THEM ARE ACTIVE MONTHS DURING HURRICANE SEASON. AND THIS AREA IS WHERE A LOT OF THESE SYSTEMS ARE BORN. NOW, THE CLOSEST ONE TO US, THEY'RE ACTUALLY GOING TO MERGE INTO ONE AND THEN POP OUT A TROPICAL DEPRESSION RIGHT BEHIND IT. WE HAVE CURRENT TROPICAL STORM AND THEN AGAIN, ANOTHER AREA OF DISTURBED WEATHER THAT COULD BECOME A TROPICAL DEPRESSION HAS A 30% CHANCE BECOMING ONE AND THE 7 DAYS NEXT 7 DAYS. I WANT TO FOCUS ON THESE 2 AS THEY MERGED TOGETHER AND WHAT COULD POTENTIALLY HAPPEN BY THIS WEEKEND. FIRST OFF, WE GET THAT TROPICAL DEPRESSION. IT LOOKS TO STAY TO THE SOUTH OF THE STATE. BUT AGAIN, WE'RE STILL DAYS OUT AND THIS IS NOT EVEN FORMED YET. IT'S NOT EVEN IN THE CENTRAL PACIFIC. SO RIGHT NOW, THE THINKING WITH THE MODELING IS THAT IT WILL BE A TROPICAL DEPRESSION THAT PASSES SOUTH OF STARTING FRIDAY SATURDAY IN THROUGH SUNDAY. THE BIG ISLAND BEING THE FARTHEST SOUTH COULD SEE THE MOST RAIN FROM IT AND THEN FEWER SHOWERS FOR THE REST OF THE STATE. TROPICAL DEPRESSIONS, ALTHOUGH THEY'RE MORE OF A RAIN EVENT, THEY CAN CAUSE PROBLEMS, ESPECIALLY WHEN IT COMES TO FLOODING. THIS IS NOW SATURDAY AT NOON ALMOST DIRECTLY SOUTH OF THE BIG ISLAND AND MAUI COUNTY SATURDAY NIGHT STILL PUSHES WEST AND CLEARS THE ISLANDS BY EARLY MONDAY MORNING. SO THAT'S OUR FIRST ROUND OF WET WEATHER. POTENTIALLY. WE COULD SEE MORE WET WEATHER FROM THAT SYSTEM BEHIND IT. AND THAT'S PROBABLY NOT THIS WEEKEND, BUT NEXT WEEKEND OR THE MIDDLE OF NEXT WEEK. SO THERE'S A FEW THINGS GOING ON. OF COURSE, WE'LL KEEP YOU POSTED ONLINE AND DURING EVERY NEWSCAST, I JUST WANT TO SHOW YOU TROPICAL STORM GIL, NOT WHICH IS FAR THE EAST PACIFIC. CURRENTLY A TROPICAL STORM COULD BECOME A CATEGORY ONE. AND THEN WHAT WE WANT TO SEE FROM THIS AFTER AS IT SLOWLY WEAKEN AS IT MOVES AND INCHES TOWARDS THE CENTRAL PACIFIC. OF COURSE, WE'LL KEEP YOU UP TO DATE WITH THAT. OUTSIDE OF THAT. WE JUST HAVE OUR NORMAL TRADE SHOWERS MOVING THROUGH THE ISLANDS TODAY. A LITTLE BIT WET THIS MORNING FOR OAHU AND KONA HAS SOME SHOWERS THIS AFTERNOON. NOW, SPEAKING OF RAIN, CHANCES IT, FOCUS ON HILO BECAUSE HILO POTENTIALLY HAS THE HIGHEST RAIN CHANCE STATEWIDE WHEN THIS TROPICAL DEPRESSION PASSES TO THE SOUTH. SO IT'S STARTING ON THURSDAY INTO ABOUT MONDAY MORNING. RAIN. CHANCES ARE HIGH SPECIFICALLY FOR HILO, BUT ALSO TO A LESSER EXTENT KONA AND THE RAIN CHANCES FOR THE REST OF THE STATE ARE ABOUT HALF OF THAT.
